Many of my favorite antiques have come from this charming little place in Helotes. Whenever I stop by B Daddy's BBQ next door, I walk over to Old Town Depot Antiques to see what's new. The selection is vast and includes everything from Victorian-era posh to 1950s small-town Americana. As a spiritualist, I'm particularly drawn to the variety of crystals and tarot card decks. As a WWII enthusiast, I am impressed by the variety of American and German guns, knives, and military paraphernalia. The prices are reasonable, and I've found many bargains, including a set of antique doorstops that...well...I really shouldn't talk about here. I know that last sentence sounds mysterious (because it is), but feel free to contact me If you're curious. I assure you it's an interesting story with an accompanying video. The woman who operates the store is friendly and quick to offer suggestions. Unlike many antique store owners (those presumably mindful of potential shoplifters), she will leave you be and let you enjoy your visit. She has given me several great deals over the last few years, so don't be afraid to negotiate. The one-star reviews on this page are laughable; the staff here are very friendly and accommodating to everyone I've ever seen, irrespective of race or ethnicity. If you sensed "bad vibes," then perhaps that's a reflection on *you*, not your ethnicity. Fans of the feline variety, take note: the shop's true owner is "Rascal," a cute little fellow who, if you're charmed like me, will greet you as you enter the premises. Rascal lived up to his name on a recent visit, as he mugged for my camera (see photos) and followed me around the store to offer insight into the various trinkets behind the counter. Walking in...it was quite overwhelming...there's a lotta stuff lol. Mostly organized, you'll find some cool finds- vintage hardware, antique furniture, vintage home goods, metals, old doors, tubs, garden items, you name it! Take your time perusing the place, you'll never know what you might find! They also rescue local cats and all are up for adoption! Most are fixed and have their rabies shots. Also, leashed was a super sweet dog up for adoption. They've been fostering her for 2 years. Please consider....each one of them, needs a good home! I was able to find a cool tall metal stand that I will use as a base for a bird bath. Some items are priced, but the owner is easily accessible and able to price or answer any of your questions. We met Kirt H., the owner, super friendly and knowledgeable. In the business for quite some time, most items come from home demolitions or were purchased on special trips they made along the way. Upon entering it can feel quite overwhelming because there is A LOT of stuff but as you take each aisle you realize it is quite organized. Definitely unique finds, old items, a lot of choices for antiques. They also have a room where they rehome cats, which seemed odd but I appreciate that they are trying to help these cats find homes. Most of the prices that I saw seemed reasonable, but not everything was marked. Parking is odd because you are parking under the bridge between the street with cars going in each direction. We had a chance to speak to the owner, Kirt, he was nice and gave us a lot of background on the store. If you're looking for something old, eclectic or unique check this place out!
