Although we had our own little patio we chose to use the bigger and more public patio in the back of the house. Robin and Bob were both very welcoming and filled with knowledge (that they shared) about the area. The stay included 3 dogs that were very friendly and fun to be around. The breakfasts were great! One morning we had eggs, they were steamed and perfect. We also had sausage patties, homemade gingerbread muffins, fresh fruit, orange juice, and coffee. Everything was very well presented and served. We were offered a couple of muffins for the road. On the morning that we had to leave early to go horseback riding Robin made us breakfast burritos for the road. They were very good. This is probably the best place to stay while in Cody. The lobby is warm and inviting, and several of us traveling together on a photography trip have actually spent time sitting on the couches, drinking coffee and visiting because it is such a pleasant space. My room is large and clean, and the bed is very comfortable. Based on the property itself, I would have had many good things to say about our stay. Unfortunately, we returned from a full day in Yellowstone yesterday to find the door to my room standing wide open. My room is in the section of the hotel where the doors open directly to the outside, so my room had potentially been accessible to anyone passing by for hours. Housekeeping had entered the room while we were gone. The room had not been cleaned, but clean blankets had been left on the bed, and apparently the door was never properly secured afterward. I understand that mistakes happen. Someone could have been distracted or simply failed to make sure the door latched. What concerned me even more, however, was the response when our group leader and I reported it to the front desk. Rather than showing concern that a guest's room had been left unsecured, the gentleman at the desk seemed to dismiss the situation. He suggested that housekeeping probably pulled the door closed, it didn't latch, and the wind blew it open. He then assured us that there isn't really crime here and essentially said that if anything had actually been stolen, we could call the police. As a photographer, I travel with thousands of dollars' worth of camera equipment. Thankfully, I had most of it with me that day, but that easily could have been a very different situation. More importantly, regardless of whether anything was stolen, a hotel room contains a guest's personal belongings and should never be left unsecured and open to the outside. The open door was a serious mistake, but mistakes can happen. What ultimately changed my opinion of this hotel was the lack of concern when I reported it. An apology, an acknowledgment of the seriousness of the situation, and reassurance that it would be addressed with housekeeping would have gone a long way. It's unfortunate because I genuinely like this hotel and there is a great deal about it that I would otherwise recommend. But after having my room left wide open and then having the concern dismissed because nothing happened to be stolen, I would not feel comfortable staying here again.
