Very interesting history behind this restaurant. I loved the old feel of the place as you walk in. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I ordered an 8oz steak special that came with a side (I chose a baked potato), and the salad bar. The steak had a heavy smokey taste which was overwhelming. The salad bar was not as fresh as I would have liked. The iceberg lettuce was a bit wilted and the croutons were mostly broken into small pieces. Not sure why only three stars. I had the 10 ounce prime rib, mashed potatoes & salad bar. Cooked perfectly also had the golden draft which was good and finished with jack red this was awesome. Great history stop as well with an old register and a collection of guns. Definitely worth it. Meal price wasn't bad $46 for above meal. read more

Ahhh the Irma Hotel. One of our favorite places to go. Friendly, our waitresses are always very friendly and attentive. We love the Prime Rib buffet and usually always go here for special occasions. Valentines Day, Christmas, New Years Eve (always a good time). Last December I was able to enjoy their hosted Christmas Party and oh what a party it was!!!! Walked from our hotel and mainly everything is closed labor day evening. I wanted to eat the Prime Rib Buffet but I was still stuffed from breakfast. Ordered a side Caesar salad instead. Spouse wanted chicken pot pie but they are out. He ordered chicken fried steak instead. I had a few bites. This hotel is named after Buffalo Bill's daughter Irma. So after a long day in the we unfortunately chose to eat here. Our meal was $100 and the food was terrible, Golden Corral is better. The food was dried out or crusty no flavor at all. I am pretty sure the vegetables are the frozen type. Service was slow but the waitresses were running their tails off so I won't take that away from them. The Irma Hotel is an old cool place to stay. It is probably not for the light sleeper, as all of the floors creek and sound travels. The dinner and breakfast buffet were very good. The only bad thing was when we went into the bar for a couple of beers, we were ignored. The woman bartender served all of the locals over and over as we sat there emptied glass. It was an overnight stay on our way to Mount Rushmore...there was not an elevator to get us to the second floor and no one to even help!! But the kicker was NO hot water to take a shower either in the evening or morning!!! To pay $256.00 for this was ridiculous! read more

When visiting Cody, you really have to stay at the Irma Hotel, the one Buffalo Bill Cody built to establish the town in 1904. The hotel is pretty darn historic, but the rooms have up to date bathrooms, comfy beds and a/c. Our corner King room was on the back, so was pretty quiet and away from the gunfights and live music out front. It was fun to stay in the middle of town where we could walk to restaurants and bars. It is too far to walk to the museum, which covers 7 acres-you will do enough walking there. Prices were about the same as the major hotel chains scattered around town and a whole lot more memorable and included the same amenities. Book ahead in the summer, we only snagged the room thanks to a cancelation. read more

Yeah, this place attracts the tourists and, sure, the food won't win any awards. I still visit, though, because the dark old west interior is a good backdrop for a menu that's actually not bad -- I like to come here for breakfast -- and tourists don't overwhelm the place unless a bus pulls up. We LOVED our stay!! We stayed in the Irma Suite "aka the honeymoon suite" per the front desk staff. Before I get too far in my review let me say this: this is NOT a new hotel. If you're staying here it's because of the history. That being said, our suite was perfect for us. Era appropriately decorated with pictures and furniture. Cleaning staff were through. A bonus for us is that this room fronts up to the Main Street in Cody. We were able to open the windows and stay in our room to watch the Stampede Parade. It was great when people realized we are there. They would look up and wave at us. The hotel sits on top of the Irma restaurant, home of the infamous cherry bar given to Buffalo Bill by Queen Victoria. It's breathtaking! The hotel does not offer breakfast, but the restaurant had a breakfast buffet. It was hot and filling. They also offer a prime rib dinner buffet. Again, it was hot and filling. It's a tourist spot, so be prepared to pay a bit more. read more

Cons- flies everywhere, breakfast buffet was not good, gravy was watery, biscuits drier than normal, flies on fruit and butter that was felt out. For a taste of the Old West, stay at the Irma. The owners have gone to great lengths to update /modernize the rooms, but also to keeping that old time feel. I mean when is the last time you stayed in a room where you had to pull a chain which released water from above to flush the toilet? The place is old and quaint -- that is part of its charm. However, the rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, decent lighting, and nice antique furnishing. Free WiFi. Other parts of its charm are its history and Buffalo Bill's impact. I was fortunate to get the Irma Suite one visit, the room in which his daughter lived, before she built a house and moved. The entire staff is friendly, helpful and just plain nice folks. I can't imagine visiting Cody or going to Yellowstone National Park without staying at the Irma. read more

This is the original hotel built by Buffalo Bill. The people at the visitor center told me I needed to eat here, and they were right. I sat at the bar as I was alone, but had great service and an excellent meal. I ate the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, and it came with a salad and bread. I read some of the other reviews and yes, lacking in some amenities. But you come here because of the history. This is exactly what I expected after I did the research. Red white and blue ribbon all the way around the dining room, and yes the food here is good. One night I got just a cheeseburger, and the next night salad bar with a beef stew that one could make a meal of by itself. So tasty!. Alll of the people are nice, and if you want a drink in the adjoining bar, wow what an atmosphere! Locals with cowboy hats and happy tourists. TVs and lots of fun stuff to look at everywhere in the whole hotel. My room was clean and looks to be the same as it was 100 years ago as it should be. Excellent experience overall! read more

Historic it is. Friendly, not so much. And don't even think of trying to check in before 3pm on the nose. 2:30 attempt and we were summarily dismissed and admonished that check-in wasn't until 3pm. Went to super friendly Buffalo Bill Center of the West to kill time--it was great! Returned to Irma and waited around the awkward check in desk area until some one showed up to check us in, rather gruffly. To get to our room, we had to walk through the dining room with all our luggage to reach the main stairwell to the 2nd floor. Room was comfortable, but an irritating barking dog in the alley behind the hotel kept waking us up during the night. Linens were clean and the bed was comfortable. Super big bathroom. Overall, it was an expensive nights stay at a historic hotel so it was cool to say we did it. Stayed at Moose Creek Lodge the next night with friendly staff and great rooms at far less cost--our room was ready before 3 pm and they actually welcomed us to their establishment instead of making us feel like unwelcome nuisances like at the Irma. As a bonus we didn't have to bump our way through a line of hungry patrons in order to get to our room. Irma has the advantage of its historical significance but the awkward layout and less than friendly greeting soured our experience. read more

The beauty of this place is definitely in the hotel side of things and less in the cooking/food/breakfast buffet side of things which was a little bit of average. Historical the Irma Hotel is a gem, owned by Buffalo Bill and named after his daughter Irma, it stands in the middle of Cody, Wyoming and probably feels a good bit like it did back when Bill himself roamed the grounds. In fact, I hear they even have a Buffalo Bill room where the man himself stayed and that the bar is original. Pretty amazing to settle yourself in and have a drink at the same bar where Bill himself once threw a few back. It's a great piece of history and pieces like this are in short supply (especially when certain groups seem determined to destroy everything about America as it once was, anyhow!). I'd highly recommend stopping in for a drink and better yet stay the night. The Cody Night Rodeo is a heck of a lot of fun and pretty close to this lovely one of a kind hotel. read more

Came here with my wife for one night on a road trip through the national parks. One night here was amazing. We were given the Irma Suite. The furniture is all period pieces and even the vanity used by Irma herself while she stayed at the hotel. The ceilings are high, bed very comfortable, and the room spacious. Definitely worth the visit to stay in such a historic hotel. The staff was very nice and accommodating and the bar was very lively with patrons and live music. read more

Do NOT go! If I could give no stars I would! We traveled from Al and heard so many good things about the restaurant. Guess we went there for the history and the notoriety, but not the food and service. From the beginning until the end, was a bad experience. Our waitress, Erica, was one of the worst servers we've ever encountered. Had to be told multiple times to bring us a second plate since we were splitting food. Didn't get the drink correct, never asked us if we wanted a refill, never came by to ask if everything was okay or if we needed anything. Had to chase her down to get our bill. I could go on and on. The food was subpar to say the least. They are known, supposedly, for their prime rib, so we ordered the French Dip and the Philly. They both were nothing special and the food was cold. The sweet potato fries were overly cooked and cold and our french fries were also cold. This was not a meal worth $60!! Too many other restaurants we could have tried. Do not go here. You'll regret it and will make your first experience at Cody an unpleasant memory. read more

The hotel was built in the early 1900s. It is easy to see why many things are old. But that does not explain why the service at every point was terrible. They have institutionalized waiting,...to check in, to check out, to be seated, to give your order, to order a drink. We found ourselves going out on the street to find decent service. read more

Buffalo Bill aka William F. Cody helped found the city of Cody, Wyoming in 1895 and he built the Irma Hotel in 1902. I had read some mediocre reviews online, but I booked a room anyhow and just set my expectations very low since I wanted to experience a night in this historical setting. Not only were my low expectations not met, but I would go so far as to warn others not to stay here. The Irma Hotel is a tourist trap. As such, there are many tourists busy getting trapped there. So first issue is parking. We had to park a couple of blocks away which wasn't so fun since we had gravel, uneven pavement, traffic and rain to contend with just to get inside and check in. Service at the front desk was slow. Then, moving the luggage through the restaurant (!!) and up the stairs one at a time was just sheer joy. The room was nondescript. The main issue I had with the room was the huge skylight above the bed for which we had no way to shut out the light. Might have been a nice idea if you could see the stars, but you couldn't really see anything at all. So much for sleeping in. Certainly part of the draw for me was the Wild West Shootout show. June through September, daily except Sunday, a shootout is staged on the porch of the hotel (see photos). I mean, who doesn't love a good shootout, right? Didn't get a seat since it was so packed. Seats had been reserved for bus loads of tourists and other paying guests. Half the show was devoted to raffles and sponsorships. I didn't think it was entertaining at all, nor did I feel like I learned anything. My wife and I left before the show was over. I don't think I would make my kids sit through that. My wife wanted to see this historic building in downtown. While we were there, we decided to have lunch. Big mistake. They seemed to be out of more food than they actually had. I had to go with my third choice, chicken tenders. She had to go with her third choice, a burger. Tenders were over cooked and were simply awful. The burger was average at best. No flavor. We paid about $25 for that lunch. I could have received a better value by simply taking a blow torch to my cash. read more
