I have a love/hate relationship with Buffalo. I'm a vintage vendor for multiple places here in Austin, and I also sell online and occasionally when I need to make space or sell stock I'll come by Buffalo. When I first started selling to them the staff was AMAZING. The manager on duty was super rad and would usually come handle my buy and chat with me about stuff. This is when it was great to go here, and typically I would always find some neat stuff to leave with for myself. Fast forward to now, I haven't went in for a couple months because I haven't had much to bring in and I've been so busy. I go in with my usual amount of bags and the past 2-3 times I've went the buyers were all snobby, even if there is no one behind me in line. I don't recognize any of the people except one person who was on the other side of the room doing something else. The buyers I've had the past few times blaze through stuff so fast (I'm assuming because I bring more than one measly bag) that they won't even open the folded items to see what they are. The girls will even be across the counter talking about how they can go on break or go home once they finish your buy which is pretty much why I assume they don't give a rip to even look through your items. I used to come in and sell tons whether it was retro, name brand, boho, etc. I would leave with hundreds in credit or cash EVERY time. Now they won't even take the time to handle your items and I'm lucky to get $100. It's really disappointing as I used to have such a good relationship with the people there and a good experience as a bulk vendor. Luckily there are other stores that you can go to, but overall I wish the staff was better. Selling it literally all depends on who your buyer is. Some are great and will actually take the time to look at your items, but if you get that bad buyer be prepared to leave with all your stuff. Very inconsistent. read more

Oh Buffalo Exchange, where do I begin? Buffalo Exchange is cute in a weird cultural way. It's an experience going here because it's just a museum of college kid clothing stuffed onto racks and racks sold by co-eds who needed the $$$. You CAN find some amazing things there, however 80% of the store smells TERRIBLE. If they would make a "high-end" section of buffalo exchange and really be more selective on the quality (no stains, snags, tears, rips, holes, SMELLS, and scuffs) then they might turn a larger profit. But I doubt that will ever happen. Selling to Buffalo Exchange is a huge waste of time- you'll get ripped off, you'll stand in line forever only to be told: would you like $10 in trade or $3 in cash? If you're a meth head who steals Doc Martins out of dorms and needs to sell them, go here. Otherwise, avoid avoid avoid the selling process. You'll see your beloved items hawked for far higher than you'll ever get paid for them. Some of the people working here act like it's their largest accomplishment in Hipsterdom to work at a Buffalo Exchange. That being said a lot of their employees are quite nice. But it's apparent to me that this whole store is mismanaged: mostly because there is like a Billion employees at any given time. In short: if you don't want to break the bank getting an outfit (meaning $40 for the whole outfit) then go here. But you'll also possibly risk smelling like Aunt Edna's mothball closet or a urinal. Wash well and sift through the endless racks and after 2 hours maybe you'll find a gem! read more

I am a self-admitted label-whore when it comes to jeans. There are only certain designers of jeans that I will wear, and after realizing that I can't support my habit at Nordstrom anymore, I had to find a way to get my fix... but cheaper. I don't remember the first time I went to Buffalo Exchange, but I'm pretty sure I didn't enjoy it at first. Once I discovered the fun in searching through racks to find a diamond in a haystack, it turned into a game for me. I call it a "treasure hunt" to find the great things that we would pay 5 times as much for at department stores! I have found True Religion, Seven for All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Rock & Republic, etc. jeans there and I think the most I have paid was $54! They're always in pretty good shape, as I would think a lot of these were purchased by "rich sorority girls" from UT on daddy's credit card and they just got bored with them. Works for me, because I got a $200 pair of jeans for $40 and that makes me feel good about my shopping habit! Now here's the downside... selling clothes here can be an emotional roller coaster. I'm not the first to say that the fear of rejection sometimes keeps me from bringing my designer clothes and shoes here rather than Goodwill. Sometimes if I'm brave enough or really needing the cash, I'll wait in the ridiculous line to get the tiny percentage of store credit or cash from the price they put on my clothes, but for the most part, I'll stick to just shopping here. Also, the parking situation kinda sucks but you have to be used to that around campus. Overall though, it's fun when I'm bored or not on a mission for anything in particular and it's always fun to find something great among the racks of otherwise crap! read more

Fashion disaster, thy name is Austin, and thy home is Buffalo Exchange* on the drag. I think I really hate the sense of style here that is somewhere between Raggedy Ann and June Cleaver. I hate a store that buys nothing but stuff like that and the most hideously cheap and slutty sorority girl** castoffs. Also, why won't they ever buy anything over a size 14? I'm sorry, I forgot that women only come in sizes 14 and smaller?!*** Pretty much I buy dresses, as I almost always wear dresses (mixing and matching are just too much hassle), and I will go through the dress collection there and find in a size 8: - some silver thing with no back that comes from Forever 21 - a green print house dress with no label of any kind made of hideous 1970s polyester - some pseudo-shirt-waist from Gap circa 1995 That's pretty much every recollection of shopping there I've ever had. It was great when I was a slip of a girl on financial aid income and didn't mind looking like ass because I thought I looked cool. I guess if you're in that age bracket, it's the place for you. If you are over 22 and have any sense of elegance, avoid the place. It is not for you. *I'll add a disclaimer that one of my favorite stores for buying clothes in the world is Buffalo Exchange in San Francisco, so it's not a slam on all the stores. **At twenty, slutty was ok. This review is strictly about shopping, not selling at Buffalo. I don't sell my used clothes here because they are ridiculously picky and never accept anything I bring in. Though I understand that's annoying to some reviewers, I also think it's directly related to why I love shopping here so much. Their inventory is fantastic! I always find a dozen items that I love and I don't have to waste time going through a ton of inventory to find things I like. Since I'm not a big shopper, this makes the experience bearable and even enjoyable. Their men's selection is spot on too! My boyfriend has found some great shirts, jeans, & slacks here. I don't even both trying to sell my clothes to these guys because the line is always about eight years long and they never want my stuff anyway. But I can find some badass stuff here for super cheap. I can't even begin to afford Seven for All Mankind jeans in real life, but BE lets me pretend like I'm wealthy enough to buy designer denim. For shoppers, this place can be expensive for used clothes but there are some good finds. I agree with other posters that there's not a lot of sense to the pricing; you'll find a used F21 top for $15 (isnt that what it costs new??) and some much nicer things for way less. For sellers, it's a nightmare. The buyers are picky, pretentious, and condescending. I even got a lecture from one of the buyers that they are competing directly with the newest styles at Nordstrom, Antropologie, etc and so they can only take the most current styles. The reality is that this is a second hand store with a very particular aesthetic. They took an old skirt i got from goodwill and passed on some brand new wedges from Macys. If they want anything you've brought, you'll get barely any money back for it. Additionally, they take things from your pile as they like them, assuming you're going to sell and not giving any itemized list. The buyer/manager I talked to offered me $16+change for a bunch of things and I said wait, what did you take? but they no longer had the pile of clothes in front of them and so she kind of listed things but didnt say how much for each item or describe them accurately. Overall, if you have anything nice enough that you'd rather sell it than donate, just go on ebay. It's less hassle and you'll get more money. read more

This place is "the best" A varitey of seasonal outfits. Something for everybody. Prices are great. I have 7 kids, ages, 28-11 abd they love it there, especially the shoes. And if you are a Halloween person, the costumes are amazing. Parking in the front and back of store. Plus a great coffee shop and toy store right next door. A one stop shop. The people are about as friendly as they could be. I just can't imagine all the "stories" they hear. They just listen and listen and listen, and smile. You can make a clothing donation to one of the 10 different charity organizations that Buffalo sponsors, depending on what day you drop off your stuff. It is all in all an experience. Reading these reviews I do agree with it depends who you get as your buyer. They seem to buy more on the side of what they like and not what the store needs or what is in. If you are big on one brand and so-and-so kind of dresses and the buyer happens to not like that brand/make you will get turned away. They have a wide selection of clothes, but you better be hipster or into things that don't match. Not a fashion expert but the outfit they had on the wall seemed like someone closed their eyes and randomly grabbed clothes and put them together. Sorry if it seems rude but when I go in somewhere to shop I like to know that the people that work there are fashionable and knows what works and what doesn't. Pros You will always find at least one item you are head over heels for. Every once and a while they do amazing sales ( I got 5 pairs of jeans for 5 bucks, although this is rare.) They have seriously trendy accessories. Technically you can sell clothes to them for store credit ( although your clothes have to be seriously high quality to even be considered.) Cons Overpriced- like 12 bucks for a shirt, dresses and jeans are even more. Not well organized. They technically are grouped by sizes, but really seems more like a treasure hunt of sorts to find something that actually fits you. Sizes seem to run really small ( although I'm not sure why that is) But no matter how many times I go, I still want to go again. If you have some extra clothes you want to sell to a store, or are looking for some individual pieces that no one else will have, try here first. Or really if you are just looking for a good few hours of shopping entertainment you should seriously check it out. Don't let the piercings,funky hair and tattoos of the store clerks scare you off. Buffalo Exchange is an awesome thrift store! I always manage to find something here when I come to Austin. Last trip I bought my boyfriend an awesome Western shirt. It looks like it was from the late 70's or 80's and it was originally from Sears, and it's embroidered with the 'Coors' logo. What a find, huh? My boyfriend loves anything tacky, he loves Western shirts, and he has a special place in his heart for anything with a beer logo. It'll match his 1980's Natural Light beer coat perfectly! Buffalo Exchange has a constantly rotating collection of used men's and women's shoes, clothes, belts, purses, etc. Come in often because they get new stuff all the time! Also I'd suggest bringing your own bag because when you don't use one of their plastic bags, they give you a little token that you can use to donate towards an organization of your choice on your way out since you saved them money on the bag! Do you like cool clothes cheap without getting hassled by the salespeople? Then this is the place for you. Admittedly I used to be a bigger fan before I realized they were a chain, but hell, they're still pretty cool. Lots of clothes, lots of inventory coming in every day, and prices that are hard to beat. Most items are good quality (some shoes are shitty for some odd reason) and current styles as they are pretty strict about their buy-back policy: if it won't move they won't buy it. Plenty of sales help on the floor, mostly very young women dressed in very individual and cool looks. Need to be inspired? Just check out the staff at Buffalo - really interesting presentations in almost all their looks. Downside? Um, crappy parking often, long lines in the buy-back area (typically) and a little attitude from some of the cashiers if you appear to be over 25. Since I am, I get it every now and then but I can blow that off. There's a good chance on my next visit Ms or Mr attitude will be gone anyway. Go if you like a nice selection, lots of options and low prices. And, if you are over 25 and you can deal with the uninterested staff and just focus on self-service youwon't be disappointed. read more

ugh, this place. I've visited buffalo exchange several times, each time with hopes the place or people will redeem itself. Sadly, I walk out with the same "why did I come here, again?". I usually go with a heap of gently worn anthro, free people, french connection & urban clothes and shoes and run into a snooty, pretentious sales guy/gal turning my currently in-style items away which then sold for good $ at another store. Not to mention, the process of getting served is incredibly slow & unreliable. Yes, some of the employees (a tall thin brunnette girl & a girl with gauges) are very friendly and make the experience more worth while but not enough to keep me from going back again :( read more

I learned many moons ago not to bring my borderline plus size or plus size clothing here. Out of bags and bags I've ever brought, only one Size 12 completely sequined gown ever made it past the guardians for $12.00. Of course this was foreverago, so their criteria may have changed since then (probably has). So I forget about selling and just take a look around occasionally (assuming I can find parking, that is). They have some nice quirky things. I've found a shirt or two here or pretty things to look at. Unfortunately, the pricing scale is a bit inflated for some of the items. They do have cute accessories and shoes, too- so if I can't find larger-sized items I don't feel like I've completely wasted my time in the store. So it'll be fine if you're the shopper, but if you're selling something... I say, "Good Luck, My Friend." read more

Frequent turnover, value discerning buyers and variety make this a staple for clothing. I have low expectations, and I just stop in (when nearby) for quick looks. Three stars because quality of selection isn't as good as it could be for men (there are a lot of sweat shirts, mediocre sweaters and T shirts). Women's is much larger with better selection than Men's. A good time to go is towards the end of month when students drop in to sell to make rent. Prices: good considering how much time I save here vs the mall or other second hand stores. Selling: I judge it to be worth about $30/hour to stand in line when you have two bags of good clothes, so I never do it. Selection: This is often the only place I go in Austin for second hand clothes because the other stores in Austin are either less discerning or buy a lot more vintage (which I just have in a different category in my mind, I guess). Also, I'm slim and small, so their organization of clothing by size is a tremendous time saver. They sometimes have clothing that is simply unusual and could not be procured anywhere else, although less often than I'd like. Location: One of the other big reasons to come here is to be able to shop on this little area where I can bike and avoid the entire schlepping over to the mall, which I disdain. Make a stop next door at Toy Joy and you will be on cloud nine whether you find any clothes or not. And then there's always Ruby's BBQ and the Art Authority - this whole area rocks. read more

Perhaps it's because I'm a guy, or because I'm tall, but I've never found any jeans that I want or could wear at Buffalo Exchange. This has left me browsing the t-shirt racks, which has turned up a few snarky selections over the years, but the time invested on returns is just rubbish. Also, while I don't often find myself as an outsider in any situation, walking into Buffalo Exchange makes me feel like I need a full sleeve of tattoos, a rockstar haircut, and an art major degree just to grace the staff's presence. I stopped here on my way back to Houston and while the clothing choices were fine, it was a huge frustration to actually shop. Their idea of a size "small" does not jive with any other store I've shopped at. So frustrating to constantly be pulling out sizes anywhere from a 00 to an 8 on the "small" racks! They do not even have a place to separate out the XS sizes. Also, some of their prices were a bit ridiculous. It seemed like they were pricing based off of the brand of clothing as opposed to if the article of clothing itself was really worth $40. The store itself was much larger than the location in Houston and it was nice that they had a different counter for buying and selling so things don't get crowded. This is a MUST when we head to Austin. The employees are just fun to see what they have on each day. Haha. But really the clothes and shoes are one of a kind. You can't just go to any thrift shop and find this stuff. They let you bring some of your things to consign..., but know that they ARE picky of what they expect. I've taken bags, which they look through and I might leave with one thing they except. They just are really picky about finding one of a kind things. I am a 19 year old UT student and I like this place most of the time. I REALLY enjoy their $1 Earth Day sales... However, today when I went inside the clothes were unimpressive to say the least. They sell so much "weird" hipster clothes but sometimes through the piles of old clothes you can find a gem. It just depends. Their prices are fair, I bought two tops today, one for $15 and another $16.50. I'm glad I chose to go there because the same top could be found at Urbanoutfitters for $40-45. I've been to BE many times but I have never tried to sell. I'm going to bring them a pile of my old clothes next weekend and I hope I can sell some. All of my old clothes definitely looks better than some of the crazy clothes they sell in there. Oh, and it's definitely packed with hipsters. Everywhere. Today was my third visit to buffalo exchange, but my first time selling! I practically took a good half of my old wardrobe which consisted of a hand full of racks, and two full shopping bags. Once I to there, there were a good line of people waiting to sell their clothes. Once it was my turn, a girl thoroughly examined all my clothes, and priced them accordingly to the condition, style, and brand. She was very delightful, and "real" when it came to what she chose and didn't chose from my heap of clothes. Overall, she took mostly big brand name items: Doc Martens, Calvin Klein, Adidas, Marc Jacobs And Jeffery Campbell. But, gave them a reasonable price. I got $50.75 in store credit for 5 items! I wouldn't say that is an amazing deal but it's pretty good! You can also get 30% in cash but I go their pretty frequently. read more

I have to admit I have always loved this store, I have always had amazing luck finding cool stuff here from used clothes to new clothes to crazy accessories. Yes I will admit there is that certain "old dirty closet" smell in there but hey they can't help that. Anyway, the store is large and always has a decent selection and due to it's location near the University the clothes in there are usually a little more up to date than some locations I have visited. I always get great deals on jeans here, usually getting $100 jeans for like $30 and in good shape. I have bought a lot of shirts here because I can always find some pretty strange stuff. The also sell new clothes (those with the purple tags on them) and I really enjoy some of the lines they have and have not had any problems with them at all. Now I can't tell you NOT to sell your clothes here for a couple of reasons. ONE: If I did that, they wouldn't have any cool clothes to sell. TWO: You don't really have any other choice around here so you might as well sell them HERE and get SOME money out of your old rags, and IF you have to spend a percentage here (which you don't have to do, you have a choice), at least you are getting cool clothes out of it!! read more

This is one of the best resale shops I've ever been to. No, they won't take everything you bring in, but I feel like that ensures there's more awesome stuff on the floor instead of just everyone's cast-offs. I like the fact that they buy things on the spot instead of holding them on consignment. Instant gratification FTW! There's a lot of interesting stuff in here. It's fun to browse, even if it does take a bit of digging around to find what you want. This place has everything from newer designer clothes to vintage finds. It's a great place to find jeans on the cheap, too. The people who work here tend to be friendly without being pushy, which is a plus. read more

I can only review based on a buying standpoint. I'm in love with this place. It's like a Plato's Closet that was made for me and the stuff I wear. I got two high-waisted, perfectly fitting, NICE, almost new pairs of jeans that I'm absolutely in love with. $40. Can't complain! I'd spend more than that for the exact thing at the stores they're from. Now, I understand that this could probably be a hit or miss type place depending on who dropped what off. However, if you're like me and like the hunt, I would definitely go here. It's like a scavenger hunt for awesomeness. Can't beat it! Everyone working the day I went was also super fun and funky. Obviously you're not going to get all your money back selling clothes here as you would selling them on Ebay or Poshmark. I have used Poshmark before and was successful with it, but always going to the post office is a pain. So that brought me to Buffalo, as I had tried other resale shops in Austin and wasn't happy with the buy out. I was honestly shocked at the prices I got for my clothes coming here. I normally go after work on the week days when it's not so crowded, the most I've had to wait is like 20 mins. The staff members are professional and helpful and friendly- and talk their way through why they're accepting or not accepting an item, which I like. They also do the buy out here based on what the item would sell for in the shop and not like at other places that have a flat fee if it's a t-shirt or a pant, so that's why the buy out was higher here because if you have nicer pieces (like anthropologie etc.) you end up getting a little more. The parking is a pain here, but if you go during off hours like I do there won't be an issue. No resale shop is gonna be completely perfect, but they do their job well here. As long as your clothes are fashionable (don't bring in your mom's frumpy garment from the 60s expecting them to buy it), in good quality, and decent brands-- you won't have a problem here. read more

For me, B.E. is a mixed bag. It has some issues to work out. However, it did manage to solve the biggest ongoing problem of my life, which is finding pants that both fit me and look okay. Thus, I am forced to give it four stars. I visited the shop on a weekday afternoon, and found the first problem to be parking. The front lot was full, the back lot was full, and the street parking behind the back lot was...you guessed it...full. After making a couple go-arounds, though, something opened up, so onward to the store I went. Now, the whole reason I decided to shop here was because a friend at work told me she often finds good jeans in their guys' section. So I was on a mission to get in guys' pants. However, the fitting room attendant did not approve of this goal one bit. After several trips to the fitting room with arms full of men's jeans, she finally gave me an icy stare and said, "You know, we have a women's jeans section." But, despite her cynicism, and despite the loud, hot, cramped dressing rooms, and despite the store's strict policy of counting your fitting room items one by one (very slowly), I managed to find a pair of guys' jeans that fit me like a glove. (H&M, they were. If only there were an H&M in the central time zone!) I also snagged a couple pairs of women's pants, much to the joy of the skeptical fitting room attendant. And, when it comes down to it, $38 for 3 pairs of pants is a steal, plain and simple. I'm also a fan of B.E.'s support of the Humane Society's "Coats for Cubs" program, where you donate old furs to be remade into bedding for orphaned animals. And it gave me a nice chuckle when the guy behind me in the checkout line asked an employee, "Is the stuff in your fur box free?" Keep having good pants, Buffalo Exchange, and I'll keep braving the obstacles to shop at you. read more

The only reason they don't get all 5 is because it really sucks to sell clothes there, but naked lady parties aka clothing swaps are way fun so I'm only taking away one star. Whenever I have a new shoe craving I go here and almost always walk out with 2 or 3 pairs of great shoes. I once found a pair of Fornarinas for $7, another time I found a light pink Marc Jacobs jacket for real cheap! This is my new 1st stop for Halloween costume shopping. They have so much...for SO LITTLE! I found a cute (but typical) high-quality costume for 16$. They have a number of racks FULL of costumes. They are mostly women's costumes, though. Sorry guys! Also, on my shopping visit yesterday, I found an adorable long sweater, a silk dress/blouse and a pair of boots. Each item was about 15$! I love shopping vintage and used, but I seem to forget to stop by Buffalo regularly. I'll have to add them to my thrift shop tour. :-) read more

I recently visited BE for the first time, despite the warnings of "snobby employees" and "swarms of hipsters." Though I did wait a while (it was a Saturday), the girl who sorted through my sellables couldn't have been nicer. I received $35 credit for nearly all of my things (mostly old Old Navy and Target items). I didn't find much that fit me, but both my BF and I have been back several times, both to buy and sell. Don't expect to find an entire wardrobe here in one trip. It's like any other thrift/resale shop; it requires time, lots of digging, and multiple visits. I don't understand a lot of these gripes about Buffalo. They don't force you to take a store credit that you don't want. If they don't buy back your stuff, it's not personal. Every single time I've been there, everyone has been nice. If you don't like the way they run things, go back to Goodwill, where you'll get nothing for your old clothes and everything is "conveniently" sorted by color. Why not 5 stars, then? Two reasons: the racks are PACKED. I have to remember to bring a shoulder bag so that both hands are available to free any potentially awesome dress from the death grip of said racks. Also, I feel like some items are way overpriced. However, if the price isn't right, I just don't buy it. Problem solved. read more

I have good and bad days at Buffalo Exchange. Every buyer has different tastes, and from what I hear, they also research different designers and trends. So if you're really trying to sell something, you might just have to bring it in another day and time. I usually have better luck selling accessories. Since the expansion, I've felt much less claustrophobia when I shop. There's more room to explore the racks, so you don't get that burning feeling that hipsters are scrutinizing you through the backs of their skulls. And now that I'm no longer in college and thrust daily into the fashion circus of the campus streets, I realize that almost everyone in the store is more terrified than me about what people think of their attire. Yesterday was a good day. I had planned to go to Macy's and spend about $70 on an Easter dress, but I went to Buffalo instead and purchased all of the following for just under $75 total: an adorable easter dress, coordinating necklace, and highly versatile Michael Kors pumps; a super-hot shirt (dress??) that makes my husband drool; and a short, tight, punky thing for my upcoming visit to the Harajuku district in Tokyo. And all in one visit to the dressing rooms. Score. Some days, though, I take 3 loads to the fitting room, and come away with nothing. Is that because of the seasonal fluctuations in fashion... or in my waistline? Probably both. Oh yeah, and for those who still doubt that there are any awesome deals, I get my $200 and $300 jeans here for under $50, and yesterday I spied a Betsey Johnson dress that cost just $30. read more

Expensive for what it is!!!!! Only like 8 parking spot up front. Very open concept, but just expensive. Found some neat clothes, but I did not purchase anything because I could buy something similar and brand new for the same price. A neat place to check out though if you need an outfit for a party or Halloween. On the back wall is a spot for just Halloween costumes. I don't plan on selling my clothes to this location because of the reviews I have read. Just a place to at least check out once. read more

The universally interesting thing about Buffalo Exchange is that wherever they are, they reflect the style of the geographic area. I've been to a lot of BE's in my day, and I think the Austin location is a solid reflection of buyers who actually know their own market and what we do in our clothes on a weekly basis. Because of that, this Buffalo Exchange is a solid option for stocking up on supplies for every weird ass event I want to attend. Ground breaking on a graffiti wall? Champagne Bar-B-Que crawl? Lecture at UT's Geology school? Check. There's also a massive selection for women, much larger than any I've noticed at other Buffalo Exchanges. Sorry guys, your pickin's are more slim. read more

Buffalo Exchange is a great place to take your clothes after you clean out your closet. A word of warning though: they are choosy about what they accept. Items need to be designer label or have something cute and special about them (vintage is fine too), be in great condition, and for women, can't be over a size 14. After your first visit, you'll know what items they take and what they won't (really, don't bother taking your old tee shirts or holey jeans). The items they don't accept, they will donate for you to a women's shelter, which is awesome. You won't get a lot of cash, but sometimes its just easier than listing your stuff on EBay. You can find some real gems here when you go for shopping, especially in accessories. I have seen Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes on several occasions, and also Frye and Steve Madden. The jeans selection is extensive. I have spotted BCBG and DvF among the dresses. Parking is horrific during fall and spring semesters because of location. read more

Major lameness. For those of you who are wondering if BE has gotten lamer over the years...yes, it has, and that has a lot to do with the increasing focus on "trends." BE used to be a place where you could find one of a kind stuff from all eras without much attention to trends. As such it was one of my favorite Austin places to look for a treasure. Not any more. As far as I can tell (being from here) there is no need to be "trendy" in Austin beyond what your own heart dictates. We have it all here and BE used to reflect that in their choices. Love this place. From funky to functional, always find something! The staff is very friendly. Plan to spend a little time looking through everything, you can easily be overwhelmed if you are pressed for time. Yes, there is some crap, but a whole lot less than most resalers. Back in the day, people used to take a bunch of clothes they used to like, but weren't as happy with anymore and put them in the yard on a Saturday afternoon. They would place out some other items they were no longer fond of and some them for a very low price. These events were called garage sales. Perhaps they still go on. I found comparable clothing at the Buffalo Exchange. Somehow they have found a way to charge $17.50 for shirts that would fetch a good $2 at a garage sale. No fear of going out of control with my wallet here. My paycheck was safe and sound in this store. read more
