Today I saw a woman selling her FURS - her gorgeous real furs - and they gave her $30 for a fur jacket that is in very good condition. If you're a college kid and love to pretend you're a buyer or a fashion expert, then this place is for you. Otherwise, move along to other places that are much better in the area. The worker named Seneca really made me feel so welcome when I came into the store on Sunday. She is such a warm girl and every time I come into the store she's so friendly and sweet with me. She does a great job at the buy counter and if I don't get as much money for an item as I'm expecting, Seneca always explains the process to me in the kindest way. She deserves a raise!!! read more

When it comes to selling clothes, they don't express that the clothing has to be in season (weather wise) and that they truly only pick what THEY like... not what other customers would like. I had a lot of great clothing (four bags worth) that were mixed season and they pretty much rejected 90% of them. read more

I've been here a couple of times already and it's not the best place for selling clothes. Obviously they are very subjective about what they accept and won't accept. I just brought some clothes in today and there were two employees looking through it. One of them seemed to be a manager or some sort. But the other employee was looking through the clothes I've brought and putting it in a no sale pile, while the manager was distracted by another. When the manager looked back at the no sale pile, she was telling the initial employee that these pieces are good for sale. The worst part was after they've taken a good amount of clothes, they got to the Kate Spade Heart bag that was still wrapped up and had it's tags on it, never been used and was definitely around $270, but managed to offer me $50 for everything including the bag or $115 store credit. I should have taken the bag back and sold it on my own, but I was so tired I took the money and left. That's the last time I'm gonna go there to sell anything. Their whole buying system is warped and unfair just for them to turn around and sell it for 3 times as much. I will say that if you are in need of something specific, they have cute things but that's thanks to the people that sell to them. STAY AWAY FROM 'BROOKE'! I am usually not one to write reviews but my experience at this store last week was horrid. I would go on to even say it was a downright racist experience. If you're a person of color I advise you to stay far away from a discriminatory manager here named 'Brooke'. I suppose it makes sense she is in this position of power with the bigoted reputation this location has but I was hoping it was all nonsense. Instead, I was not only monitored the entire time I was browsing but the clothes I was selling were straight up made fun of under this woman's breath! Every word out of her mouth was condescending and disrespectful, she was basically mocking me the entire time. I don't mind my clothes not being taken but this superiority complex was too much. HEADS UP this review is based on me being a seller.... I came here with about 7 pair of high-end quality jeans that were barley worn. apparently they buy what's "in season" or going to "sell". I've never seen jeans not be in season. not to mentioned she gave the person in front of me clothes who were also in amazing condition back, like everything. honestly a joke of a store. They judge people based on their size here apparently. Was told they couldn't work with any of my things (which is completely fine) but the lady who helped me went on to add an unnecessary comment and say in a demeaning way that they wont want / take smaller sized items even tho I had several loose and oversized fitting items / jackets as well, so why even bring up my size as the reason? if it was the other way around and she mentioned someone's size bc they brought items that are too large to fit their vibe then it would be an issue. I would never insult someone in that way or be so insensitive to mention someone's size as the reason. They need to work on their delivery and keep their personal, intrusive thoughts to themselves. Simply saying none of my things would work for them without mentioning my size in the tone that she did would've sufficed. read more

Not a cool place. I walked in with my dog and the staff barked at me. And said "we have a strictly no dog policy!" And I asked "why?" And that really got them mad. "Because we are a clothing store !!!" Ummm it's a big smelly room stuffed with very used clothes. "Is that why ?" I asked. "It's a privately owned shop. And the customers could be allergic to the dog. And it's a clothing store." This dear reader is blatant discrimination. And just a heartless attitude to lovely old dogs. Also just so you know, me and the dog had just been shopping at Monk next door. And Beacon's Closet down the street and both were very happy to have my dog visit. In fact at Beacon's Closet (bigger, friendlier, cheaper), all the staff were asking to pet my dog. It's all about attitude isn't it ? It's not about the piles of junk used clothes, it's about kindness and attitude. And this place is just not cool. And as my dog and I were leaving after being rudely kicked out, two other customers came to the door and said "sorry dude. that wasn't cool." read more

My daughter works nearby and she had an accident at work in the morning due to her period, she went out asap to get new pair of pants sp she's able to go back to work, she went in and the door was open and the girl (didn't get the name, the girl is around 25 yo and has no chin) was by the register, she told my daughter to leave because they open at 11 (the time was 10.40 am), my daughter apologized and explained the whole situation and the girl who works there just said "we open at 11" again and asked her to leave. I understand there are some rules workers have to follow, but the store was pretty ready to go at the time and my daughter was in a very uncomfortable situation and given that the time was already 10.40-10.50 the worker could be more understanding or AT LEAST not make it rude. read more

Disappointed. It was my first time hearing of this place and I was pleased to learn that I could actually bring some clothing in for sale. I have lots of brand new (never worn) clothing, mostly designer brands (i.e Calvin Klein, Armani, Ralph Lauren etc..). Their policy states that clothes must be clean and laundered so I made sure the clothing was meticulously folded and in shelf ready condition. The clerk pulled the clothes out one by one and made a huge messy pile. She decided to buy only 1 item and then shoved the remaining items back in the same case I brought them in. I politely asked why they were not interested in the clothing I brought. I was told to "basically take a look around at the type of clothes the store carries". I did notice Prada shoes on the wall so I was a bit confused. I thought a "thrift" store carries all sorts of styles and finds? I wish I would have known that before I made the 45 minute trip to this exchange. Very disappointed. I would have left the remaining clothing there for donation but wouldn't want to offend anyone with unused expensive designer wear. I'll donate them elsewhere. read more

Wouldn't recommend any of these Buffalo exchange stores. If you're looking into selling please don't waste your time here. All they want, according to the employee there is "flared leggings" or "trendy graphic tees". Even if the clothes is in great condition or even new, they will not accept it. I thought this was Buffalo exchange but apparently it's a Urban Outfitters. Not to mention some employees were very rude. read more

Happened upon a Buff in California and had many favorable shopping experiences. The Buff in Astoria returned the same favorable results but over all the Williamsburg location, not so much for my particular needs. Staffers aside, they were top shelf all the way. The 35x34 size had only three pairs, size 34x34 and 36x34 didn't have a great selection in plain blue jeans. In addition, the second number on the tag (length) wasn't allocatable anywhere else, but where the manufacturer put it. It took far too long pulling the lengths and rehanging the lengths of 30 and 32. As luck had it, the pair I finally found was a button fly which I am not a fan of and was torn and damaged too the point one of the buttons, you know where, couldn't hold the material.. Found that out once I got home as the little but highly functional tear was not obvious. So I decided too take a quick look for a winter hat, the one -- and I do mean one as in 'one & only' was this white Russian furry looking thing. I looked like Nanuk from the North the flaming cross dresser, so I took a pass. Grrrrrrr read more

I'm not sure how to break this to you. Here goes: I'm not a hipster. As such, the clothes I have really aren't the ones Buffalo Exchange wants to buy. I love the idea that this place will take your cast-off clothes (if in good condition), and buy them off you. They slap their price-tags on the items they approve, and you can either have 30% of that price in cash, or 50% in store credit. That seems pretty fair. The problem (for me) is, they sift through your clothes for the ones that will probably sell in Billville. I used to have a "business casual" job. Buffalo Exchange has no use for the dress slacks, button-downs, and sweaters that I was getting rid of. Out of a fifty-pound sack of clothes, I made $13. Now, I can't blame them for not buying clothes they don't think will sell, because that just wouldn't make good business sense. However, you should be aware that they seem to cater to a certain segment of the population, and if you're not it, you don't have much use for Buffalo Exchange. Buying or selling. read more

I enjoyed shopping here. The clothes are well laid out so you can actually see the stock but it's still piled high with clothes, shoes and accessories. I picked up quite a few items to try and bought a really fun top. I like that there is a funky dressing room area at the back of the store too. There were a lot of people in here so you gotta be quick if you see something you like. While paying the staff gave me a token to donate at the door to the charity of my choice for using my own bag. I've never seen that before and it's a really nice reward for reusing bags. I liked the good vibes Buffalo Exchange. read more

Earlier this week, I stopped into Buffalo Exchange because I found that I had a bunch of unworn clothes, shoes & handbags for sale. I was hoping to get more out of BE but I walked out with $89 dollar instead of using their store credit of $144. So this is how BE works, They look at your items. They tell you how much it's worth when they sell it back. For example, I had a DNKY down jacket it's basically NEW and worn once. The lady told me the value is worth $60. I can either get 30% of cash out of $60 or a store credit that's worth 50% of $60. Needless to say, I took the cash because there's no way in hell, I'm bringing more crap home. LOL One flaw, I did notice about this BE is that, Brand new items aren't really worth much. I brought a bunch of UNUSED COACH & GUESS ITEMS. They were only going to give me $5-$10 back. Are you serious? It's untouched? They did sacrastically mention, "You won't make much money here by selling expensive items, you should try ebay". If I wasn't lazy, I'll do Ebay. But who has the time to run to the UPS store every so often? Regardless, if you have a bag of unused shoes, bags and accessories, I would recommend this place before you donate your clothes! Give it a try and earn a few extra bucks! Why not? I notice that they do tend to turn down a lot of clothes. So bring all your used shoes & bags and make that $2-$3. Eh... why not? read more

As soon as you walk in the door, you're met with a super musty and moldy/gross smell. Also had extremely rude employees. I had never been there before and was trying to sell clothes and (nicely) asked how the process worked. Was met with a lot of eye rolls and general derision. I'm not sure what prompted the rudeness but I definitely won't be returning. Monk Vintage (right next door) also has a WAY better selection/nicer employees. Overall miss! read more

I have been here a total of three times. I have never actually walked out with something I personally find aesthetically pleasing for the price. It's great when I go to a thrift store and find $1 bin (haven't seen one here). Of course, if it's a great piece, I don't mind spending the means on a excellent quality, one of a kind must have. I usually come here after Beacon's Closet and find it completely unorganized, and difficult to find things. I came for my third visit this evening (10 minutes before closing). I normally do a quick browse (in this case I was looking for a very specific item for my sister for part of her Christmas gift). I was walking my little dog off leash up the stairs, and made it a point to hold my dog because I feel that's polite in a store. The woman loudly shouted that I was not allowed to have him in the store. She asked if he was a service dog. Personally, service dog or not, I think that's not something to announce loudly in a store. Employees should approach customers nicely. Please note: I looked for a sign on the door before walking in (I am courteous of this)----no sign. read more

This place is tight, and I'll tell you why... As a buyer: they (generally) only take good quality, current season fast-fashion and/or higher end clothing. So I can get pristine J. Crew and Brooks Brothers shirts for $20-30. It's killer. Also, everything is sorted by size, which is perhaps the best thing about this place. Most other vintage shops are either a free-for-all (L-Train Vintage) or organized by color (Beacon's Closet), which is about as helpful as tattoo on your dick. As a seller: (see also) they only take good quality clothing... So, sure, if I showed up with a pile of wrinkled old clothes from the bottom of my dresser, I could see how that might seem insulting when they don't accept them. But from the perspective of a paying customer, I want them to turn you down. I'm only gonna buy the good shit, so why would they stock the racks with your oil-stained, 10-year-old H&M shirt? Good to know: they charge for bags, which isn't an issue for most New Yorkers since we usually have our bags at all times, but if you're an out-of-towner - it's annoying. I get it. But they also donate to charity for every bag you don't need. So, altruism is its own reward, or whatever. read more

Ah. THE Buffalo Exchange. How long I've waited for this day to finally come. I usually search for second hand clothing online, through trades or buying and I've always been lazy to look around in stores. I mean, who doesn't want to rest their ass during straight-up 3 hour walks? This place is basically a hidden gem, in the middle of no where, or more like dead in-process areas. There's a few things you need to prepare for if you're gonna go to BE: a long walk, perverted men hustling at you along the way, and lastly, a crowded store where you cannot move within 5 inches of your feet without hitting something. My first reaction when walking in here: holy shiet. How could such a place, in the middle of no where and in BROOKLYN, be so crowded on a Thursday afternoon? All the fashionistas, especially the typical ones where you see on SoHo, strutting with high-waist skirts, floral tops, Ray Bans-knock offs, oxfords shoes and puurtyy flats, flooded the store. If it wasn't for my friend, I would've probably left this place in 10 minutes. I can't stand looking at mixed, MIXED clothing on racks, especially those on the walls. This place is like Marshall's, but more trendy. I honestly think they overcharge some items, a $25 heavily used Juicy Couture plain tee, with the little 'vintage' logo on the tee, $15 Abercrombie & Fitch tank top that looks like if worn once again, it'll start ripping, and some ugly band tees. Surprisingly, I usually walk out with at least 5 items in places like these, but walked out with 1 tank top. Some of the clothes were just not appealing at all. Ironically, I found the exact pair of Levi's jeans I was wearing that day, a little more than half the price I paid at Kohl's. And it was on 'Clearance' as well. Well, isn't that just lovely. The staff seems nice and friendly and really into keeping the place as organized and clean as possible. If you want to sell your junk here, feel free, but they seem picky. I haven't tried to sell here, so this review is based on my experience as a shopper. I find the staff here (and at most other BE stores) to be VERY nice and polite. I've never had any problems with them at all. So, kudos to the staff. As for the clothes? Eh. I like to go in & look, especially since this little hub on Driggs has a few stores right next to each other (Monk, Junk, BE). Look, and ye may find....unfortunately I rarely find. Most of the shirts and sweaters seem way overpriced for what they are. I did find a great winter jacket here a few years ago so that was a good investment. Other than that, not much luck. read more

(they consider size 8 "XL")  The Manager, a blonde, talked to me like I was 3 years old in the most sickeningly saccharine "Awww you're SoOoOo dumb...!!! While I have never shopped here, only sold/donated clothing, this review will reflect just that. I have been to this location several times to sell clothing, and it always goes smoothly. The staff is friendly and always willing to strike up a chat to pass the time. Their prices are reasonable and the amount they buy your clothes for is respectable. the lines to sell are usually longest towards the end of the month (when rent is due) so I like to come mid week during the afternoon. read more

Youre better off selling online [ebay, etsy, FB marketplace, etc], They suck at training their staff so you can make absolutely no money. They also sell brand new items for the same retail price *or even more* Like might as well go to the actual store and buy it fresh. shopping wise they stress they only take in trending/ brand new items. But when i went in there everything was absolutely trashed, Ugly af, or just not worth the price. I remember buffalo exchange used to be a fun and cool place to trade/ donate clothes. A thrift store for the community. But now its not that at all they only care about making money which is crazy because they are selling stuff id pay $2 at any other thrift store. They barley had name brand clothing and if they did it was behind the register and overpriced. They also dont give you a fare exchange between what you bring in and the money they give you. Its a complete scam and i dont recommend supporting these shops anymore because its no longer for the community. i can go on about how shitty this corporation is. But if youre from ny then you can take the hint as to why the ASTORIA location is non existent. read more

I've been here twice to browse and both times so far I have scored something that I wanted. First time was a dirt cheap H&M taupe skirt for $8 and today, I scored this cute Guess floral bustier top for $15 which is a good steal because Guess can run a bit on the expensive side especially for their nicer items. The items are sorted by sections... shorts, blouses, tank tops, shoes, etc. Easy to dig through and the associates that I have encountered so far have been super friendly people to me. I was tempted to sell my AA shorts here but there is always a line, so I too lazy to wait in line. Definitely come here if it's in the way of your commute. read more

Went here on a Saturday afternoon didn't find one thing that looked good in this store. Some of the clothing had major signs of wear, tearing and they had the gall to try to sell it to you for anywhere from $15-$25. A lot of the shoes there looked super worn too. Also there was a funky smell in there that led me to write this post. Won't be looking for anything there again, the one in Astoria is way better. Also, Buffalo Exchange should acknowledge that people who live in poverty shop here too. They should not be compromising quality and real estate in their store of what they're selling to satisfy some "north brooklyn" (this term is extremely laughable - it's called WILLIAMSBURG, people! no such thing as "north brooklyn") customers that moved here 3 months ago with a trust fund. read more
