The Quick: Sellers won't make much money, but buyers are in for a treat! The Details: This was my first experience selling and going to thrift store in general. I showed up with vineyard vines clothing, J.Crew accessories, and a few Polo shirts from my boyfriend. Even though they were in great condition, the store had no interest in anything preppy. They weirdly bought a pair of my unused socks and a designer T-shirt. The staff I dealt with was very friendly and explained the process to me and how they look for more edgy clothing. I hardly made any money, but the experience was interesting and I only waited for about 15 minutes. As a buyer, you can get amazing designer stuff at a very inexpensive price. As a seller, your profit will probably cover your subway. Selling: Decent experience as the staff was friendly, but that's it. They're full of crap when they tell you they don't accept merchandise that is not in perfect condition. (See referenced photo.) Also, they claim to "donate" your unaccepted clothing. I'm sorry, but I just cannot believe the notion that things are being donated when I see a coat like the one I found yesterday on the rack. (See referenced photo, again.) I'm guessing they lie, tell sellers that anything unsellable will be donated, and end up selling them for their own profit anyway. Also, they definitely pretend not to look for labels and name brands when they stretch out your clothes on the counter. I'm almost positive all of my stuff would've been accepted had they been Marc Jacobs or any other expensive, but dull brand. Buying: Cheap looking and stained clothing. Beat up, dirty shoes for outrageous prices. Raggedy belts that seem to have past lives as whips. Gross and tasteless hats. And you guys are judging MY style? ALRIGHT. Review for buying, not selling: I'm glad I stayed at a hotel just across the street from here so this place would finally be on my radar. Just the other day I had popped into some vintage clothing store that had the most insane prices, so coming here was a reprieve! Loads of unique pieces at really reasonable prices. I was interested in looking for more vintagey pieces for a costume party, and this place fit the bill with some funky dresses I looked at from $18-25. I scored a crazy jumpsuit for 22 bucks. I had to run to catch my train on time, but I would have liked to browse a bit more since I was only in there for about 8 minutes to find and try on what I was looking for. This place is for you - if you've decided that the whole NORMCORE thing was created for you. Yes, apparently it's a thing now. So buy (it's a typo and it stays!) all means, those of you who seek an Elaine Bennis and Seinfeld sartorial look, via Urban Outfitters and Salvation Army castoffs, this is your place. As a seller, remember to bring loads and loads of ugly, outdated, and conspicuously worn out of season footwear. I am sure someone will eventually LOVE my 4 inch BCBG platform heels whose insoles are stained with suntan lotion. I kid you not. I was paid $5 for this lovely specimen. The payout is the lowest among the consignment brethren - a mere 20 pct, which usually works out to an average of 2 bucks on each item you sell there. Bring some reading material - the wait is a doozy! On a serious note, I can't believe the style arbiteurs who they appoint as their store buyers - generally unkempt, wearing mismatched ill-fitting clothing and flaunting bellyrollls below their cropped tops. They likely wouldn't recognize a fashion score, even if it hit them on their heads. read more

We used their send-in option to purge quite a bit of designer and flipping fabulous pieces...with the added detail of sending what wasn't wanted to charity, and they came back with $0 "we've donated all to charity". I'm not butt-hurt and have sold $100's to them in the past, but this was the first time I trusted they would do the right thing and not take back what they didn't want. Our stuffed-to-the-max mailer bag was filled with NEW Converse and a plethora of barely if at all worn clothing and accessories. Most high end and obscure, and certainly NOTHING was junk (we dropped off the LESS-THAN-100%-AWESOME stuff to our local Goodwill). To say 0 was kept -- I'm convinced is a lie. ZERO STARS if I could. This company is a scam and this location is horrendous. Not only was the wait at the donation area extremely long (there had been sales associates hanging around who should've jumped in), the store itself was infested with mosquitos and flies. Pretty sure I have malaria from getting so many bites. I've been to meat/seafood markets that were cleaner. For what you donate, you get pennies back. Don't waste your time in giving a company that operates like this any business. They shouldn't even be one. read more

Looking for a cool new find? Got some old clothes you're looking to make some money on? Check out their current offerings or Sell them here - BUT - note the following: - they buy for the season. Don't try selling too many summer clothes in November... And do aim to sell festive Spring colors and light jackets in March/early April. Keep in mind when you're looking at the new selections in store each season, too. Everyday you could find something different. - bring your clothes in clean. If your jacket has a small spot on it, be sure to spot clean - if they've already bought too many of your item and have too much stock (of say, men's jeans), they don't have a need until they sell a few - they follow trends and generally won't buy faded fabrics Remember, they are an amazing help with your old clothes as what you consider obsolete is someone else's new favorite fashion. Tons of fun to explore. If you come without expectation, you won't be disappointed. My mom and I popped in here after a taping of the Wendy Williams show. We weren't looking for anything in particular, but if we had been in the market for a Rag and Bone sweater or a Jil Sander pullover, we would not have been disappointed. There is a well-curated warehouse vibe and the staff seems effortlessly cool. They have a pretty extensive selection of jewelry, shoes, outerwear, bags and accessories, as well as your male/female sports, casual, and formal wear. Extremely diverse and fun. We are no strangers to the thrift shop experience so this is one area where we can pretty confidently call ourselves experts. This store is top notch for people looking for a good deal on great pieces. We walked away empty handed, but it was hard. read more

I think I would like this place more if the prices weren't close to dept store prices. Why would I buy a use sweater for $30-40, when I know I can get a new one for the same price or cheaper?? Also if they carried more L/XL. I find it hard to believe, in a city w/ people of all types of sizes that only small people want to get rid of their clothes? I can't even fit my pinky toe in some of the shirts and jeans b/c its a triple 0. This particular location is huge so I would expect more things, but it's lacking. I took a gigantic granny cart of clothing here to see if I could get some cash before I made my final round to Goodwill. The two buyers that were there are really attentive to your clothing details. In the spring season, try bringing your girly, frilly, and bright clothing. But. perhaps even more importantly, they are really looking for great designer labels -- I noticed that pretty much everything I sold was of a major label (BCBG, Banana Republic, See by Chloe, Coach, Pour La Victoire, etc.) I managed to get around $60 cash (it would have been like $100 store credit but I'm not really that fond of Buffalo Exchange for buying, to be honest) so not too bad... I was definitely not expecting much money back. I saw that they take a lot of Coach items here - I saw a Coach tote being sold for $150.00 (whoa, a little steep for a used clothing store). read more

Two stars because there wasn't obvious garbage on the floor. Huge location, but maybe this type of shopping isn't for me because it was just racks and racks of last last last last seasons forever 21 hand me downs for as far as the eye could see. Came in with a big bag of clothes and she took about 1% of it, even though it was mostly unworn or worn once free people clothing. I don't that's their style here. I walked in on a sunday afternoon and there was a lot of people shopping. I never knew this shop was here and more convientent than the other places I go in NYC. I love consignment shopping. I love buying from here, but my first experience selling was horrendous. I dropped off 38 items. (4 pairs of shoes and 34 articles of clothing) They called me a couple of days later saying they accepted everything except for 1 pair of shoes and 2 articles of clothing. They said all of it together was worth around 90 dollars. How can that be possible. That would mean that they're selling each item I dropped off for 2.50 dollars. A $359 Ted Baker Skirt being sold for 2.50? I doubt it. I didn't mean to argue so I accepted the 27 bucks they offered as 30% commission, but I definitely won't be returning. Heads up. I just mailed a bag of clothes to the Buffalo exchange in Arizona. It was filled with JCREW clothes barely worn. I was thinking I would get fifty bucks to 75.00. I got 11.38. I was shocked. I would not mail my clothes here again. I have had good luck walking into the Williamsburg store and selling clothes there but will wait until after the pandemic. read more

I took clothes to sell, most never worn or new with tags, mostly seasonal (sweaters and coats) and brand names like Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors and Anne Taylor. The attendant accepted three summer dresses for $11.50. When I asked for a reason she didn't accepy most of the clothing the attendant said they are not accepting women's clothes but they're accepting men's clothing and accessories. However, they accepted the clothes from the person next to me who was selling women's clothing for $198. I'm left feeling that this was a case of discrimination since the woman whose clothing was accepted and the attendants were white while I'm not white. Additionally they asked me for my ID at least four times. read more

Selling at one of these buy/sell/trade places is always an exercise in psychology. The majority of the exchange is really not about the items laid on the table. It's about the psyche of the buyer. This Buffalo Exchange proved to be no exception. As a person who has gone into the same store with the same items, but wearing different outfits, there is definitely a correlation to the items taken. The spiffier you look the more items they'll take. Not hard to fathom. But it really should be about the items. I wish they would have a system like "The Voice". Don't even look at the seller, just focus on the catalog! As with all such places, the process would be a lot faster and more men sellers would show up if buyers didn't insist on making false chit chat. Here they take the chatter to a whole new level. One of them was so enraptured in talking about himself that he stopped looking at the clothes until the girl was like, um, cool so do you want this shirt? So if they don't take your stuff, you can leave it in their donation bin- if there's room. It was overflowing when I was there. I could see them deliberately keeping it full so they don't have to deal with bringing things around the corner to a Goodwill. Just as well- bring it yourself and get a tax receipt! read more

Horrible, The staff was rude and knew nothing of fashion, I simply asked if they ever get off-white in and they did no even know what that was .... seriously? The hottest brand right now!!! super rude Another time I went for sell backs a few items high end a few Burberry shirts, even an item from Saks ex-girlfriends so wanted to get rid of it ) that was still on their site I said look on says 5th now it's 375, I turned it down. It was a perfect condition. After that I thought to look around to see what they carry, shock - they don't know good brands, it was all lower lever lines like Tommy ( out of style ) even north face and other cheap brands but you turned down Burberry, chole, and other items n that level. I came in with two bags full of high quality clothing brands (Aritzia, Steve Madden, Revolve, etc) and barely used, some still with the price tag. The guy, who didn't seem to know much about women's brands, took one item. It's probably more enjoyable to stub all ten toes than to try selling here. To their credit, the buyer was courteous and explained why they weren't taking my items. I took the buyer's reasons at face value, until I went to go explore the store's merchandise. I don't understand how the buyers are as selective as they are and yet the store is filled to the brim with tacky prints, outdated styles (the early 2000s are back with a vengeance), stained shirts, pilling sweaters, etc. Anyway, if you're coming here to sell your clothes, exit promptly and head to Crossroads down the street. Buying here is a game of endurance and luck. Secondhand items from cheap big chain stores are priced as if they're brand new. Clothes are organized by size and type, but there's a super disheveled vibe to each section. If you're willing to really (and I mean really) dig, there are some designer gems for a steal. read more

This isn't about selling, rather, buying. Buying picky picky picky mens stuff. Stuff off the rack. A lot of good merch here, but especially for fashiony mens stuff. Prices are a wee bit high compared to other above-the-thrift-store chains. This said, I scored exactly what I wanted for a rational and not obscene price. They did have obscenely priced stuff, like sunglasses that were nice, but the sort of sunglasses that you need to wear cotton gloves to handle. Pricey sunglasses. Sunglasses with an apparent pedigree. Haute Sunglasses. The guy stuff (can't speak to the lady's stuff, although there's nothing wrong with that) was pretty good, and in sizes smaller than XL. If you're a big guy (in Canada, they call you "portly"), don't go here. It you're tall or have very large feet, you'll be tempted-- but don't expect Goodwill pricing. At all. The 2nd time is the last time. Had the same experience from PA in NYC. Imma admit they had some cute stuff in there so I thought maybe I can trade my red teddy coat from PLT for one of them AT LEAST. However the guy rejected the coat AND the scarf (why the scarf, too?) Because of wear okay sure...while they were selling $20-$40 jackets and shoes with the seams slipping off? This is a selling review. I brought a variety of clothes and styles from theory business attire, to paige jeans, to never before worn athleta pants. All items were in excellent condition and unfortunately they didn't take anything. I'm not offended that they didn't take my clothes. I was going to donate them at Goodwill but figured I would stop by Buffalo Exchange first. I'm upset by the way I was treated while the buyer was looking through my clothes. I understand they see a lot of items every day and can't take everything but for a business that relies on sellers bringing in items you would think they would take customer service more seriously. The buyer was rude, condescending, and mean. When I asked for an explanation about why my items weren't being taken she gave a terse answer that didn't make sense. Simple things like saying, "thanks for waiting", "unfortunately we are at capacity for these styles", etc. would make a difference. read more

Stopped in this afternoon (my second and last visit) with 2 large shopping bags full of winter accessories...wool scarves/mufflers, cashmere, leather, and wool gloves, wool cloche hats (from Saks), one non-silk scarf, men's crew neck sweaters, and a few pairs of woman's shoes and shoe boots. Two employees went thru everything in 15 seconds. The only thing that the woman accepted was the non-silk square scarf for which I received $5. I ended up going to Housing Works where I gladly donated both bags. When I see the shitty merchandise hanging at BE, I truly have no idea what they are looking for. Will never return...for me it is 2 strikes, I'm out. read more

Had an appointment For 4:30PM but got caught up with a work meeting that lasted longer than I thought. I called this located about 20 times around 1:30PM and no one answered. I finally got through to someone at 4:15PM telling them my situation and they were very nonchalant about me not being able to make my appointment I asked if there is any type of courtesy due to the fact that I've been calling numerous times and I live in Westchester so I didn't want to bring all these bags down for no reason yet still no courtesy at all. I'm very disappointed and would not do bring my clothes to sell or buy anything here. read more

Every time I come here I always regret it. If you're over the age of 16 they won't buy your clothes and for the couple of nice pieces nobody can turn down they offer you pennies. Best Buffalo Exchange, hands down. They are super picky with buying clothes, and exchanging, so don't expect to get too much out of your Cheap Mondays. If I walk out with 2 items, it's a must. This location is smaller than the Brooklyn one but bigger than the East Village one. I couldn't help but search through their humongous jeans section. Heaven. Way more fitting rooms, nice staff. Generally, just a great store without a huge crowd like the one in the East Village and Brooklyn (the most chaotic one) location. It seems like everyone passes through here at some point when they want to clean out their closets. You can sometimes find a cute item for sale, but when it comes to selling your clothing- beware. The buyers here are fashion victims with goth makeup or trendy hipster types who just got off the bus from the Midwest or CT. Most of them are really rude and talk in that frat girl / guy whiney voice that ends every sentence with a question mark? They will pretty much only buy your clothing if it hits their little list of current season trends, seeming to forget that some people like to buy quality clothing / premium brands and classic styles. These buyers will point to a tiny spot or the fact that the hemline / heel isn't the one showing on the runway at the moment, and turn your clothing away. I have seen clothing rejected that was super nice-classy brands like Banana Republic, Ralph Lauren, Armani, in perfect condition! Avoid this place and go to Crossroads up the block when you are selling your stuff. Their buyers are pleasant, much more relatable, and they understand the range of what people will really want to buy at a resale shop. read more

Selling and not buying: I came here with a big bag of clothes (some Banana Republic). Some things were lightly worn and all were in decent condition. I waited on the line for God knows how long and they bought absolutely nothing. I guess my clothes weren't trendy enough or something ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. But since I did make the trip into the city, I still looked through what they had in the store. I found one Top Shop laser cut leather look top that I really liked but it was one size too small so I left with nothing. I guess this place is a hit or miss. read more

This franchise is 1 of my favs to shop at whenever I'm out and about. They have good quality merchandise at reasonable prices. Sometimes, you even find top end items for men including footwear and messenger bags. I'm glad they also have a large selection of mens wear and in my sizes. read more

Review is for selling - hopefully to give some advice to other sellers but I see from previous reviews that the advice is all over the place, so I simply believe it has to do with season, the buyer, and quality. I had a good experience here - the wait is brutal, like others have mentioned, but it comes with the territory - bring a book or magazine or fully charged cell phone. I came right around noon on a summer Saturday, and waited a solid 45 minutes. You're waiting with people who bring full suitcases and duffle bags. I had a very nice and talkative buyer, what I appreciate the most is that he explained what they take and do not take, and why and was happy to answer any questions I had. He was knowledgable about brands and trends and the items he didn't take he explained why. They'll buy out of season only if the item/s are going to be very high quality and something they won't see often, so likely higher end designers. I had luck selling a lot of gently used (and in a few cases never worn with tags on) brands like Banana, J.Crew, Madewell, Calvin Klein and Taylor Stitch (for men and women). Of course we all would love to make more, but you have to understand you're selling to a second-hand store and they're competing with even lower prices from the likes of Goodwill, so I don't think you can expect that this will be very lucrative. read more

Poor quality clothes, slow and rude staff, long lines, bad place to sell clothes. Clothing 2/5: I'm not sure why I've come back so many times. Wide selection but 50% of what I pick up has tears, missing buttons, or stains. It's all so tightly packed you can barely see anything and I've had multiple issues where pins or safety pins were in the clothes when I tried them on, causing unsafe pin pricks or scratches. Service 1/5: worse than the clothing is the staff. Every single time I've had clothes waiting for me at the dressing room, they go missing before I can try them on (with absolutely no apologies). The dress code is so lax - today I saw an employees full breast from her loose out cutout romper. Another employee lifted her shirt in public so high I saw her bra, showing a manager how much weight she lost. The lines go INCREDIBLY slow with no effort to speed things up. Meanwhile staff meander about chatting about their weekend plans and gossiping, often ignoring customers. Selling 1/5: I've come in with designer clothes and mall brand clothes - they barely take anything and underprice. Crossroads accepts much more at better prices. As does ThredUp online. They're also inconsistent: I've come back 1 week later with the same clothes and had more purchased. No change in season, just change in staff. read more

To sell clothing you have to wait in "line". The line is made with chairs in the corner of the store and you can not leave and shop since the line moves, slowly, but it moves. They paid me $10-12 for a brand new $325 dress. I didn't expect a lot, thought they would've given me at least $30-$40. I should've sold it on eBay, would've gotten that price. I brought a bunch of designer clothes & shoes; Burberry, BCBC MaxAzria, Lanvin, Moschino, French Connection, etc. The clothes I brought in are pretty good conditions but BE didn't take them because they were not good enough to sell, according to them. That's fine, but then I browsed around the store and saw some of the clothes & shoes in their store that are even in worse shape then what I brought in. I'm so glad they only took 2 of my items and not the rest. For the price they pay, not worth it. I thought I give this place a try. Never again. I will sell my items on eBay like I always do. Will get more money from selling on eBay. read more
