5 stars for the selection prices cleanliness of the store and the few really awesome employees. I'm a longtime shopper at this location and my experience prompted me to write this review. When I walked in there was a really nice Black girl w/ blonde curly hair holding the door open for customers. A positive start! After making my rounds I headed to the fitting rooms and the young Black male attendant helped me with my armful of items even though he seemed a lil peeved. He still assisted me. No biggie, I'm somewhat accustomed to the dispositions of the staff at this place. However, when I exited the dressing room there was a different attendant: a dark skin Asian guy with faded lipstick and glasses who was super rude. I had 3 out of the 8 items I wanted to put back on top of my pile of clothes and was trying to get situated so I could hand them to him. Instead of offering me assistance he says with major attitude that I need to give him the ones I don't want. (No shit Sherlock) I tell him that's what I'm trying to do if he gave me a moment and then the asshole gets loud with me and says "OK Ma'am! I'm trying to help you!" I immediately told him don't try me I'm not here for his attitude. He cut and rolled his eyes at me and stood there...still not doing his job. The guy needs proper customer service training on what it means and looks like to assist a customer in such a basic interaction and not give commands with a terrible attitude. After dealing w/ that hot mess I headed to the register to buy the rest of my armful of clothes and was checked out by a really nice girl named Erica who also told me about the new NOHO location which I will definitely be visiting. Buffalo Exchange fire the 2 star employees, promote your 5 star people, and do a better job at hiring more like them. read more

Went here yesterday, 10/25/17 to try and find the rest of my custom made Halloween costume! Wow! Why do I not come here more often!!? They have an awesome selection! Of shoes! And they are lightly worn Designer too! If you want high name designer they have available behind the registers! Nice! I found everything I needed and was looking for and for under $40! I also snagged some nice black leather made in Italy pumps but decided since I am trying to stick to a shopping budget I would hold off! I regret that now! I came here a couple of days ago to donate my clothes after clearing out my closet. Buffalo Exchange is one of the more well-known thrift stores in the city that also buys your unwanted clothes. You also have the option of donating your clothes here if you'd like. The store is decently-sized and provides racks upon racks of gently-worn, and if you're lucky, brand new clothes. The sections of the store are clearly labeled so it makes finding things here easier. I personally haven't purchased anything here due to the lack of closet space, but I would definitely consider Buffalo Exchange for future reference when I'm in need of inexpensive clothing. The staff working here are generally courteous and are more than happy to assist you if you need help with something. Also if you're bringing clothes in, you have to option of taking a cash payout or store credit that doesn't expire. read more

I can't help but to feel like a joke every time I've come here. I would recommend just trying to sell on Poshmark or eBay, you will never get what good clothes are worth, and the clothes they carry are one day away from breaking. I tried two dresses on and they actually ripped immediately, not to mention they cost $30. Imagine paying that much to go home and have it break? If you're thinking of selling clothes here, don't bother unless you're down to your last penny. I brought in 6 barely worn in-season high end designer items, e.g., Lafayette 148, Eileen Fischer. One was a leather jacket that retails for $1,000. I was offered between $9 and $12 per item. The person buying told me those were good prices. Weirdly, they offered me the most for an $89 ultralight down coat. I've put clothes up for sale at standard, non-designer consignment stores and gotten way more. I'll donate the coat to the Coat Drive and the rest to Housing Works. They're worth more to me as tax write offs. read more

I'm not exactly sure what they buy but it's definitely not nice things or high end luxury items. I bought in two pair of Cristian Louboutins, a pair of Badgley Mischka's as well as other barely worn nice shoes and clothes. They didn't purchase anything because they weren't "in style." Either they didn't believe they were real, they didn't want to paid or them or they haven't opened up a magazine recently. Looking around the store I know I wasted my time coming. It's a great place to buy cute, inexpensive clothes... if you don't mind waiting in lines, lines, lines. There's almost always a long line for checkout and sometimes you even have to wait to try on. And yes, there's a line to sell your clothes too. I waited maybe 10-15 minutes minutes, but by the time I left the store--around 3:30 on a Tuesday--the selling line snaked around the corner of the store. Yikes! Get there early! I was really disappointed by the selling process too. Yes, supply way exceeds demand when it comes to secondhand clothing. I knew that probably most of my stuff wouldn't be accepted, even though I made sure everything was clean, in excellent condition, and in season. (They say they buy for all seasons on their website, but in person they told me they were looking for spring / summer.) Anyway, out of about 20 items, they only bought 1--a DVF dress. They ignored my cute vintage pieces, my every day basics, even a silk Betsey Johnson dress. They don't buy based on style, but on existing inventory. It makes sense but I don't think they have to be so stringent on it. They must be passing up on some really great items. And while the store has some incredible finds, you have to wade through racks and racks of cheap polyester fast fashion to get to them. Oh well. read more

I'm student of FIT, and before 2-3 years ago this place was great for shopping to find some 'specials' for reasonable price. Since a while and not saying only me, but my other friends who don't even go there anymore say it too, it's all garbage there, cheap brands basic stuffs, nothing original. I wonder why all these people working there wearing so fashionable cloths if they make $15/h? Yes you right, because all nice stuffs they pick for them self before it will reach the selling floor, with their -30% employees discount. This confirmed my friend who worked there before, so it's true! I hope one of the manager will read it and do something about it, because that way you basically loose money and clients like me and many others that used to shop at that location. Just know that just 3 min away Cross Roads store has much much better choice! Buffalo exchange is not even close. Good luck buffalo with this policy. By far the biggest selection of used clothes in Manhattan. The style of clothes they have are generally modern, fun, and higher end (compared to Marshall's in suburbia) I've gotten Vince pants for $30, Theory henleys for $25 and Helmet Lang shirts for $30. A lot of these Hingis still have their original tags on it. All the clothes are in great condition. Im big into t shirts and have gotten all my stuff from here. If you want to look expensive but not pay the price tag, shop here. Guaranteed gold. Store can get a bit cray cray sometimes but not in the cluster-phobic kind of way. I love this place. I have furs, dressess, shoes, hats and bags from this store. The staff are very nice and dress cool. Just a word of caution- if you want to sell your clothes to them, please know that they are very picky with what they buy. So though you might think your clothes are awesome, you might get a rude awakening when you leave the store with all the things you had brought to sell and not one red cent in your pocket. read more

Bad return policy. I returned a ripped sweater with the receipt within the 5 day return window and they wouldn't give me back my money, only store credit. They said it's store policy, however that policy is poor customer service. They've lost a customer. read more

I went today to try to sell some used but still in good condition clothes ranging from work clothes to some sweatshirts (causal, non name brands). I had to wait in line for over 45 minutes to find out that NOTHING was going to be accepted. Not only that, the workers also make you feel bad for bringing your clothes by saying that the clothes was "too used" (some of them were new and not even used at all with the tags on). Very unprofessional. Everyone I saw in line, 99% of the items they brought in were also turned down. The only item I saw being accepted was a sequel dress. WASTE OF YOUR TIME. Go somewhere else to sell clothes like on poshmark or eBay. If you can't sell your clothes donate it to better charities like goodwill (two streets away), Salvation Army, or the lupus foundation. read more

More like Buffalo Scam. Went in with a huge Ikea bag full of lightly or unused Anthropologie, Free People, J crew etc. clothes. Items that were in such good condition I was sad to give them away, but I needed a wardrobe update and had heard great things about this place. Wait in a long line to sell, and when I finally get up there the woman picks through the bag and decides she's only going to accept one dress. Whatever, I thought, it's their prerogative, maybe my clothes aren't that cute. But then I noticed the same thing happening to young, stylish women around me; their whole bags were getting rejected except for one item. Juust enough to make them stay in the store and buy things. They said they'd sell the dress for $24 but could offer me $6 store credit or $3.60 cash (hmmmmm..) I was shocked but went with the store credit and looked around the store.. VERY poor selection, most clothes were poor quality (but overpriced) and dirty and almost all in a size 0-2. I asked if I could have my dress back and leave but they said no, the sale already gone through (yeah right). Of course nothing in the store was $6, so I had to spend money, which i guess is how their hustle works. When I left the dressing room the lady made some snide remark about how I shouldn't have taken things off hangers and inspected every piece of clothing including the ones I was BUYING (what she was looking for is beyond me). This is a thrift store people, not Chanel, no need for the attitude. I left poorer than when I came in, with the same heavy bag of clothes, and mad at myself that I had fallen for something that it so obviously a ripoff. I have sold to this location many times. Their prices for sale are low but what took place a few days ago was absolutely criminal. I dropped off 21 items with several designer labels like Marc Jacobs, Tocca and some other items. All in either excellent out of the dry cleaner condition or freshly washed. Their new CoVID 19 policy is that you drop your things off and they will look through it and then send whatever they don't purchase to charity. I received a phone call from one of their associates the very next day and she said that they accepted nothing and it was all donated already to charity (with no possibility to collect them). They have never in all the years that I have gone there accepted nothing. Usually it is the majority of my items. I got the feeling that I was robbed. Go to Crossroads on the same street further east. They always have been more transparent. Lesson learned! read more

The website says it takes everything but you get to the store they only want winter items....if you have stores all over the USA can't you just move seasonal garments to those climate friendly stores? Personally I am not a fan of buffalo exchange because it's not really thrift shopping to me. For me, thrift shopping is rummaging through all sorts of random styles of clothing and seeing what you'll find. Although they have great clothing that fits with my style, everything is " curated", fashionable and " in" clothing. Why buy here when I could easily buy some of this stuff on clearance but new for less than the price that is offered here. For example , blouses and sweaters are about $ 15-20 bucks, more if it's a high end designer. I went here today and would have to say that I personally had more fun going to goodwill ( a block away ) and spending hours there searching through their inventory for a gem. read more

What happened to Buffalo Exchange? I only come to Buffalo to sell my clothes - I would never buy anything from here. After being a loyal seller for about 6 years, I won't be back after my visit today. The workers or what they like to call themselves as "buyers" don't know anything. Sometimes I have to mutter under my mouth to let them know it's designer brand. A silk, blush never worn top by Aritzia is passed? as well as the silk blush skirt by Alice & Olivia? I'm confused.. A "buyer" that was in training - (dark skinned, big afro, short girl) picked up a rain coat by Mackage and asked her manager what she thought of it. She kept saying "MAC-age" (pronouncing it as Package with the M) when its pronounced "MA-CK-AGE". I seriously cringed so hard. I wanted to correct her so bad without trying to come off rude but then I realized there was no way.. so I just bit my tongue. Know your brands, learn how to pronounce them and please dress with style. This place is chaotic - the workers are confused people who can't make it into the fashion industry. Next time I decide to do spring cleaning and get rid of my stuff, I'll just donate them to Salvation Army because I'll feel better about myself doing that than coming here ever again. read more

Bye bye buffalo!! Never again will I sell here. After four years of selling here, I'm throwing in the towel! Total rip off $15 cab ride down there on sitter time. I brought an awesome down coat, several cute fall jackets that were in good shape, Some clothes had been worn once and I only got $55 cash back. Very sketchy crowd in there- guys with slouchy low pants, hats on backwards, body tats everywhere and crazy people talking to themselves. Last time I was in there one if the crazies was making disparaging comments about women of a certain ethnicity, cussing and talking about smoking pot. Fine if you want to, but don't go inching behind me while I'm waiting at the counter. He was making all the women around (and especially me) feel very Uneasy. I asked one employee about him and she said they continue to let him In the store. Some of the workers are nice and some of them creep me out. One employee wore a t-shirt that read "recovering Christian" which was incredibly offensive. He had issues anyway. What should I say about this place in one sentence? Disappointing first time puts it nicely enough so it's better to donate your stuff to The Salvation Army instead. I walked in here with such high hopes of even getting at least 1 out of the 12 items I brought to trade it in for cash. They took NOTHING. First of all they aren't taking skirts since their inventory is full (even though their website says they do take summer trends or items). Secondly, if ANY of your items has at least 1 bleach stain, they'll reject it. Third, they won't take your item if it's out of season. It also depends on whether or not the clerk you get likes your fashion sense. They'll take a while looking over your stuff so be ready to sit there for an hour until they get to you. At most there's only 2 cashiers at this location. I honestly thought even the brand new tie would sell but apparently since its a "regular" or "wide" style, they didn't want it. They're looking for skinny ties. I was pretty much disappointed at them by then. Should've known something was up when they even tried to microscopically inspect and haggle at the price of a legit LV wallet with a previous customer. So much for new and recycled fashion. More like it better be new with tags and we better like it or you get nothing. read more

I went there with a bag of rejected clothes from Beacon's closet. I had to wait a little in line but the 3 buyers were very efficace and it went very fast. I was very surprised by how nice my "buyer" was in comparaison to the one I just met at Beacons. She took almost everything at some very good price. She also explained me with very nice reasons why she didn't take a very few items "this is too summery come back with it during summer" "we have too many basic tees right now". This was my first time selling at Buffalo Exchange and it could've been better. Before entering Buffalo Exchange, I went to Crossroads first since I saw better reviews on Yelp. There was basically no wait to sell and I brought in 5 pairs of Michael Kors heels and 1 pair of Steve Madden wedges. The lady quickly goes through and splits them in half. Upon further inspection, she takes away another 2 into the no pile, making 5 pairs as a no. Basically she said no because there was the toe mark on the shoes (where you put your foot in) she wouldn't take them. If the materials of the shoes are suede and fabric, or even light colored - there's obviously going to be some toe mark indicating that the shoes have been worn before a few times though still in very good condition. The pair she actually was willing to take - she lowballed a pair of michael kors heels for $32 - whereas I was able to sell to Crossroads earlier (2 pairs of shoes at for both $65 and $75). I also browsed around before selling and noticed some of the shoes have been very worn on the bottom of the shoes - in comparison to the shoes I had which weren't as worn on the bottom. I basically had a better experience at Crossroads than Buffalo Exchange. -__- read more

I just had my first experience as a seller at this particular location. First of all, I have to say that these other customer yelp reviews are hilarious! I read some of them in advance and couldn't stop laughing at all the people who gave 1-star reviews because they were so offended by having their like-new and "clearly" high quality clothes rejected. If your clothes are so great, then you should have just kept them because you clearly love them so much. The truth is that they're not a Goodwill that's out to do some charity; they're a regular retail store that caters to a specific crowd and needs to carry clothes that fit their brand. Just because you paid a lot for something doesn't mean they'd have to be lucky to resell them for you. Anyway, I went in and was surprised by how nice everybody was. I honestly felt like I was at Trader Joe's, the employees were so smiley and eager to make small talk. I've bought/sold at several different Buffalo Exchange locations in LA and SF and am used to dealing with hipsters who are just too good to make eye contact with you. My buyer today was helpful and described a lot of the things they're looking for in resale items, so you can tell they're not making things up too arbitrarily. They ended up taking only a portion of my two large bags, but I can't complain because there aren't many other consignment options in Manhattan. People gripe about the rates they give you relative to how they'll later price them (50% for store credit, 30% for cash), but let's be real: you're not going to put in the effort to sell these items on eBay. Just shut up and let them take those clothes you don't want anyway. One last tip: try to go during off-hours if you want to sell. I went around 5:30 PM on a Monday and had a 20 min wait. By the time I left the store around 6:30, the line had already tripled. read more

Review for buying not selling: my friend and I went on a Friday afternoon around 5. It was kind of cramped in there just b/c there was so many people but there are some great finds! I wasn't impressed with their selection of clothing(specifically for the price range I'm looking for when thrifting) but I left with 6 pairs of heels ranging from BCBG to Steve Madden for $9-$20. Don't go here to sell anything. This is a selling review. I came here to sell three things. A fur vest, a coat (that I bought from there a year ago), and a jumpsuit. Only the vest was accepted for $8. They'll give you the price and you're entitled to 50% of that price for store credit or %30 for cash. I bought this vest for $40, never worn and with tags and got $8 from it. You are better off selling your things on Poshmark or eBay where you can set your own prices. She vaguely pointed to the front of the store where I would claim my cash. This store is very unorganized and you cant even see where the line starts. There was one line forming with about 5 cashiers, which doesn't make sense. Why not have a line just for people coming to claim theircredit or cash because I wasn't about to stand in line for 15 mins to claim $8. I ended up leaving without my money because it wasn't even worth it, not to mention that everyone ignores you when you're standing directly in front of the registers.
