I've always been able to find good buys at this store! Their customer service is absolutely amazing, much much better than Thrive Exchange. If you are looking for somewhere to shop in Davis Square, definitely visit Buffalo Exchange! The only thing I have to complain about is their pricing. If you find more expensive brands, then usually you get a steal but I find that their items from Forever 21, Express, and more affordable brands quite overpriced. I actually found a top that I bought new directly from a retailer on their racks and they were selling it at a more expensive price than I paid for it! However, if you're buying brands like Madewell, BCBG, etc., it's definitely worth it! Also the general vibe in the store is just so nice. The people who work there make you want to shop there more often. I cannot compliment their staff and customer service enough! read more

Buffalo Exchange connects you to your primal roots. You are temporarily a hunter-gatherer in the jungle, combing the surroundings (for however long it takes) for the best morsels. Although it may take much time and effort, the results are always fruitful. I was first introduced to BXC (is this a thing? if not, i'm making it a thing) when I spent a summer in NYC. I would trek over to Chelsea on the reg just to go so was thrilled when I found one just a hop away from my place in Davis! This is the type of store that you shouldn't visit if you're in a rush. Or if you're looking to buy something very specific. It's the type of store where you sift through racks on racks of clothes and try on at least 20 things. Maybe 30. Oh wait I just passed a skirt that may also be great. Or look absolutely terrible. There's only one way to find out. Dresses, jackets, jeans, accessories, shoes.. you name it, they got it. The merchandise is generally gently worn (but you'll see some new with tags on) and good quality. Brands range from the lower-end like Forever 21 and H&M to higher-end like Coach and Marc Jacobs. And the prices truly can't be beat. The staff has always been super helpful, usually offering to hold my picks while I shop, as the weight of the hangers starts crushing me. They're also pretty patient and don't judge me too much when I spend about an hour in the fitting room, trading out stuff since there's a 10-item limit. If you're short, definitely hit up the pants section. When I buy pants at the store, I typically have to get them hemmed to fit me right. This happens to most shorties. So these used options are ideal since another vertically-challenged girl has already gone through the hemming hassle, and I can just buy them off the rack! Score! I'm not sure of many things, but one thing is absolutely certain - I will always come away with something after a trip to BCX. And these often become some of my favorite, more unique closet items since I wouldn't necessarily consider buying them in a regular store. Pro tip: if you're like me and plan on buying half of the jeans they have in stock, bring a bag. I'm surprised by all of the negative reviews here. My bf and I had a great experience selling our clothing. We brought two large suitcases of and 90% of our wardrobe was accepted (maybe because they were low on men's clothing?). We made about $250 that day, more if we were to take store credit. I always find pretty cool stuff here. They have an ever-changing inventory at solid prices. Don't expect much when selling clothes. They offer a 50% credit at what they sell it for or a 30% cash return. It adds up if you really do a closet cleanout but you have to pick and choose what you really think they'll sell. It also depends on the person - I have brought things one day to have them turned down then to the same person a few days later and they buy it. If it's brand named, good quality, and looks new, they will likely buy it. A lot of the staff don't know fashion names, however, and misjudge stuff. I have had the most luck with coming back when another person is doing the buying. read more

Having lived in other cities, this Buffalo Exchange consistently has the worst collection of women's items. The staff are selective on what they buy - which sometimes feels tailored to what the people working in the shop would wear - which is not representative of what most people in Boston are wearing. The items to buy have defects or are dirty - surprising by how selective they are with what they buy. The buy line is also shockingly slow and inefficient. Sigh. I went in to find some fun accessories. I'm a plus size, got the eye roll and the prices were way over priced (think a good nordy's sale). What kicked me in the face and will make me never return is when I left and I heard one employee say to another "I knew she wouldn't buy anything." Yup, you're right. Boy, does Good Will have it made, having them as their neighbor?!?!?!?! What kind of pricing/selection system does Buffalo Exchange have? If any....? All the choices they made were completely arbitrary and subjective. The saleswoman/cashier would randomly pick something up, hold it in the air, stare at it, and if we were lucky, come up with a price that was non-negotiable. Here's the cherry on top: They asked my friend and I if it was our first time selling and we said YES....so much for explaining their process :( We brought 3 trash bags full of purses, clutches, and shoes and they took about 4 items all in all and gave us less than $15. read more

By far inferior to the Allston location, this Buffalo suffers from a lackluster selection of clothing and less-than-friendly buyers. I understand that consignment store buyers have to be choosy: that's the nature of the business. But here, I honestly wonder if the buyers size you up when you walk in the door and instantly decide whether or not to buy any of your clothing before you even reach the counter. There is absolutely no discernible rhyme or reason to what they purchase. I've had pristine, in-season designer clothing turned away (and quite often, bought at the Allston store) and yet, the racks at the Davis location are routinely littered with tacky t-shirts, dirty shoes, and jackets that look moth-eaten. It makes no sense. And to make matters worse, a lot of the buyers have a way of communication that can make you leave the store feeling like a dirty hayseed for simply coming in with a bag of used clothes. There are much, much better consignment options in and around Boston. Whether you're selling or buying, save yourself the frustration and go somewhere else. read more

After reading a few of the other reviews re: Buffalo Exchange, I feel that I ought to try and give some credit where credit is due. I'm a guy and I've been selling my clothes to Buffalo Exchange for over a decade (Austin, TX on Guadaloupe, Dallas, TX in Lower Greenville, and more recently Somerville on Elm St.). They buy 90 - 95% of what I bring in. I think that most people just don't understand that their buying process IS NOT PERSONAL. A lot of the bad reviews come from people who seem to bring in trash bags of old clothes just before they give it to Goodwill and expect to get 75% of what they paid for it new. It's just not realistic... For example, TODAY I brought in 4 dress shirts (Andover Shop, Christian Dior (recent), and two Zara Man), two pairs of wool slacks (no-names), two well-made mens leather belts, a black leather messenger bag, and a bag of silk ties. They took everything except the bag of ties because they said that they had a ton of ties, but that they were good ties (Christian Dior, Zara Man, etc.) and that I should try and bring them back in a couple of weeks. I received a little less than $110.00 in trade. Considering that I purchased most of these things new in 2008, took very good care of them, and wore them regularly for over 3 years, THE PRICES WERE MORE THAN FAIR. Buffalo Exchange is a great business, but that's what it is - A BUSINESS. Don't take it personally when they can't accept an item based on a business decision. If you need a stranger to make you feel good about your wardrobe by buying it at 30% of retail, stop shopping at Forever 21, Express, or Ann Taylor - take out a loan and start shopping at Armani, Gucci, and Valentino. You'll feel GREAT when they take everything you can drag in there and give you a couple of hundred dollars in trade. Wow. I simply cannot believe the mean spirited comments about BE. My comments are from a seller's point of view. Yes, it is true that many times you have to wait to sell clothes. That is not the fault of the staff, nor is it anyone's fault. It is a busy store and there are always a ton of people who want to sell stuff. The person who talked about the dude with the broken arm? I don't know what they are talking about, because he (I can't remember his name) has always been super friendly too me. He always remembers me and compliments my clothes. In my experience, the staff at Buffalo Exchange in Davis Square are very nice. They are respectful of your clothing even if they don't want it. All items must be clean, stain free and without tears. If you wear large sizes, they tend to jump on your stuff because they never have a selection of plus size clothing. I'm a larger lady and they always take something that I bring in. Heck, I've walked out of there with $5, but I figure that is $5 more that *I* have. I'm thankful I get anything at all. But I digress. They take things that are hip and a little funky. I am not the snappiest dresser nor am I a hipster. I'm a nearly 40 year old Latina with a nerdy vibe. They tend to like my things that have a Forever 21 label or similar trendy stores. They also took a bunch of my Ann Taylor stuff that was not the run of the mill office look. Target clothing is also a winner. Anything that is too dated will not be considered. Don't bother taking office wear, formal dresses or belts to BE because they aren't interested. They are always looking for items that can be sold in a two month span. This is not the time to take your winter clothes, but rather take all of your summery stuff. I sold sundresses, light t-shirts, shorts and tank tops. I also sold a bunch of Dansko clogs. They go nuts for Dansko, probably because they are so expensive and will sell easily in this area. You either get 50% of the value (i.e. what they will sell it for) in trade (store gift card) or 30% in cash. I like that it is all upfront. You'll only get a few dollars for each item. Yeah, you paid $100 for that dress and BE only gave you $4, but in my opinion it is better than sitting in your closet or getting zero. I'm sure there are other tips, but that has been my experience every time I have gone to BE. read more

I have so many problems with the Buffalo Exchange stores that I could write an essay about it. For the sake of brevity I'll keep it to bullet points. -They only buy, and in turn sell, old and worn items for only a couple of dollars. I've taken in very nice items with the tags still on them that were still in style only to have them say no. Meanwhile I watched them buy what looked like rags from a woman standing next to me. These stores are truly meant for hipsters who don't care what they look like. -The staff are rude and pretentious. I've been in a few of the stores in different parts of the country and found the majority of the staff to be incredibly full of themselves. They have this vibe that says they're simply too important to bothered to help you. I worked retail for years when I was college and for a while post graduation so I know it's a crappy gig, but there's no reason to be a snotty brat. -This is my primary beef with this company. They won't buy nor will they sell plus size items. That's not their official policy, but it's certainly their practice. When I've inquired in different stores about plus sizes I was met with responses that did everything, but come right out and say that I'm too disgusting for them to clothe. I'm used to the frustrating and time consuming process of shopping as a larger woman, but there's no excuse for treating someone poorly simply for having a different body from one's self. There you have it. The many reasons why Buffalo Exchange is not worth selling to or shopping at. I suggest hitting up any one of the many wonderful consignment shops around the Boston area. In fact, Found is directly across the street and the staff is wonderful and the last time I was in there they had a lot of really great things. Never Again. I used to love coming here, selling some old clothes and picking up some funky things. In the past few years, things have gone down hill. Staff is rude. I have come in a few times to sell items, and one time, after I sold a pair of shoes the lady turned around and said to her co-worker "Omg, can you believe this? I just picked up these shoes for just $15, and they are worth like $80"... Um, hello? I'm still here?! I went in yesterday with my boyfriend to sell some of our nicer items (boyfriend had wool Penguin pants, a pair of Ben Sherman pants, I had an Armani blazer, Kooba purse and black leather Coach flats), and were greeted by a surly woman. She picked over everything, and after inspecting the blazer said "If you could get it dry cleaned, I would take another look at it." The other stuff was "too worn" for her... which is funny since both pairs of pants still had their price tags on them. No. No. No. I'm looking around the store, and I'm pretty sure I would spend more in dry cleaning than I would ever get out of it. Here I am, giving you the opportunity to sell some pretty nice pieces, and you would rather take the other lady's home-made t-shirt scarf? My love affair with Buffalo Exchange has officially ended. I'm headed to my local consignment store or even e-bay the next time I want to sell some of my nicer stuff. This review is for the consignment experience at Buffalo Exchange. The reason I give Buffalo Exchange 2 stars is that everyone was very courteous, and they do not require an advance appointment to consign. However, like Melissa M., I waited 1.5 hours only to have every item rejected (I had brought two full shopping bags). This isn't really their fault - they can't accept items they don't think will sell - but perhaps giving more specific guidelines on their website would streamline the experience for everyone. I had also come in because they had announced a coat drive that granted anyone donating a coat or several sweaters a discount on merchandise in the store. The website also claimed that they would donate any clothing that they didn't take. They first claimed that their donation bin was full, and then additionally claimed that the coat drive was "over," even though the posted sign indicated it would not end til the next day. While none of these things individually merit a bad review, and none are particularly unusual in the second hand thrift store universe, I would not recommend trying to consign your clothing here unless you are fairly certain that your items are trendy right now. I also overheard the woman at the counter say that they rarely take items that originally retailed at a low price (so don't bring in anything from Old Navy). And don't worry, I'm donating everything to Big Brothers Big Sisters - so hopefully some good will come from all my rejection. read more

I can't donate clothes, because the homeless will just get stains on my gently worn Diesel, Marc, Ben Sherman and various shoezZz. :( And for some reason, Buffalo Exchange doesn't want them? :( I think I learned why when I stopped in here to browse today. After picking through racks of TJ Maxx designer shirts from 2005 and an "I Rock Catholic Girls" t-shirt I used to sell to stupid tourists at Urban Outfitters in 2004 for $4.99 on clearance ($8 used @ Buffalo Exchange!), it became quite clear: I must have the worst taste in fashion. The 40" waist jeans featuring Fat Albert characters and safety pins holding the knees together ($26?) were cool. And H&M clothes that cost less at the actual store sort of made sense to me? I think girls have better luck in here. I know I've seen some Fred Perry things for (slightly) less than you'd expect. And some of the NEW items are reasonably priced. To start, the staff is incredibly rude! The "buyer" that went through the bags of clothing I brought in completely disregarded basically anything of value and only chose to buy the cheapest things in my bag. Not sure if she naturally had crappy taste or if she didn't understand how much certain brands were worth. I'd like to think it was the latter, but based on her hideous "pin-up" (I use this description very lightly) outfit/costume, I think the former fit better. To top it all off, when I told them that I'd rather have cash than store credit, they were huge bitches about it. Um, I'm sorry if my refusal to shop in your store after encountering your rude behavior offended you? It was horrible to the point where it was laughable. I came in today with about five shopping bags full of stuff to consign, and I left with a watch that I can bring back to sell once I have the battery replaced and a check in hand. Ok, I donated a pair of boots that were the most uncomfortable boots ever, but I'm sure some people like heels and pointy toes, right? I had a really good time here today. I was a bit confused about where to go at first, because no one was at the consignment desk, but a smiling young lady appeared and helped me out. I wish I could remember her name because she was super helpful, and I think we bonded a little as I let her in on my dirty little secret--I'm a recovering shopaholic. I would have liked a larger percentage of cash for the stuff that I sold (wouldn't we all?), but the policy was well explained, and I think it was pretty fair all in all. I could have gotten a higher percentage of the sale price at another consignment store, but there are several reasons I took this route. First, I walked out of the store with a check. In a true consignment set up, I would have had to wait until my items were sold (albeit I then would have gotten 40-50% of the sale price). Second, most of the places I called today either don't take weekend appointments, or I would have had to take in my stuff next week, and I had my mind made up that I wanted to sell my stuff TODAY. The woman helping me was knowledgeable about the labels I brought it, and I was very flattered that even the woman in line behind me waiting to consign and her daughter had fun seeing everything as it came out of my shopping bags. I think you can have a positive experience here, just know what you're getting in to. You may have to wait if you go in to consign on a Saturday (but you may not have to). You'll get 30% of the selling price as a check (more if you opt for store credit). If you have contemporary designer labels that are in pretty good shape, you will get a decent price for them. Also, and this is totally beyond Buffalo Exchange's control, but I loved the location as I was able to walk up the street and deposit the check at my bank (loves you Wainwright) and grab a decent soy latte at Diesel. (It takes a lot for me to say that because I very rarely venture across the Charles, but it was totally worth it today.) read more

This is for selling only - I don't have the energy to sift through the clothes they have for sale after lugging my clothes here. I'd like to echo sentiments expressed by other yelpers: go in with the expectation that they're not going to take anything. And the things they do take, they're often items I am surprised about. Especially when you glance around the store and the stuff on the racks looks pilly and worn, and outdated. It's very, very subjective. Halfway through my buy, they switched shifts and a new girl began looking through my stuff. I figure, what the heck, I waited for an hour, so I put back up clothes the first girl passed on, and the new one took a few! Sheesh - it's really subjective, which drives me crazy. The prices they give for cash are really, really low. They're nicer here than at the Allston location, though the staff has a saccharine approach to interacting with their customers. But again, I'd rather come here than the Allston location. One note- One girl came in who was friends with the buyer while I was waiting. I know this because they greeted each other with much fanfare and giggles. The buyer took 95% of her friend's bag of clothes. Dear Buffalo Exchange, It's cool, the fact that our styles clearly don't jive. I guess I just have a more classic style. It's not for everyone. But do you have to be so rude? Seriously. I wanted to just come in, sell some clothes, and make for a win-win situation. But when fiddling with the remote to change the light in the sign over the door is more important than a customer - and it takes three of you to do it - that just kind of sucks. You set a tone that makes it extremely difficult to smile and be pleasant back. You bought four items. The reject pile was actually my nicer stuff, but that's fine. I returned to Buffalo Exchange in February of 2015 with a chocolate-colored suede jacket, by Gap, in virtually immaculate condition, and a pair of like-new, Merrell-brand boots (in a style called "encore") from the winter 2013 season. The jacket is cut in a classic style. It has a soft, heathered flannel lining, pockets, a hood, and zips up the front. When I asked the woman who looked it over why she rejected it, she replied, "We have trouble moving women's coats." They gave me $10.50 for the boots, which I'd purchased 13 months prior for $112. (And which I only sold because they turned out to run much larger than other Merrell boots that I'd owned.) Bottom line? Nothing will make you feel like a pariah faster than a few minutes of trying to sell to this place. At least I have an excuse to keep the jacket. read more

First trip here. Was excited to see the chain made it out East, after having had a great experience at the Portland, OR location. Found some cute stuff indeed: 2 summer blouses, a surplice tee, and 2 sweaters, which ran me $37 total. Best of the best: -Friendly staff (REALLY friendly, maybe too friendly? or i'm an antisocial jerk... kept fearing they might try to talk to me despite my headphones) -Sorted (fairly well) by size and separated by garment type -50% off rack downstairs by fitting rooms for older items (WOOT) -They hold stuff for you by the dressing room so you don't have to carry them around, and you can take in ten items at once (frankly, having a limit is silly to me-- are people more likely to steal their eleventh item or something? But it's better than some places). Not so awesome: -Prices vary from very reasonable to kind of silly ($14.99 for a T-shirt? this is USED, you know, right? I mean, yeah, I paid it because I wanted the shirt, but it hurt) and sizing is not consistent (some 6s were marked S, some M... ) so some digging is necessary. -NOT sorted by color. :( -LONG lines made worse by a constant stream of people trying to sell their gargantuan garbage bags of castoffs. -Jewelry is chiefly their brand of new and mass-produced chinese crap, not really vintage at all. Awwww. -Sizes lean rather heavily toward the wee. Didn't see a plus-size section at all, so the more zaftig among you are SOL. -Dressing rooms are tight, and curtained only. A lady decided it was time for me to show my ass to the rest of the room. Sigh. read more

I'm really surprised that BE got such poor reviews on their sell/trade experience. I have sold clothes at BE upwards of 10 times now and I always walk out of the store with: less old things in my closet, cash, and often times something new. The trick is to go at the right time. If you can get there when they first open, you are likely to have a better selling experience. Times that places like the mall are busy, assume BE will be busy. Friday nights, weekend afternoons, etc. Let's be realistic people... I exclusively go early in the mornings when they open on weekdays and weekends. That being said, they often will not accept things not because you have "poor" taste, but because they have TOO MUCH. I consider myself a tasteful buyer and dresser, but I do not always sell my stuff on the first round. If you do not take such offense to them not wanting your stuff - you'll have a better time. They are a business, it seems like some yelpers forget this. They are trying to make money, if you want to just get rid of stuff do not come here. The point of the store is to sell current trends, so if you bring stuff that may be designer or brand new - it means nothing. They want to 1. have space for it 2. be able to sell it 3. have it been a CURRENT trend. What I like to do, is ask the people and they will often tell you WHY they do not accept. Yes, a lot of the employees are alternative and very trendy, but they do not make the company rules they just work there. BE has to be able to sell to the population nearby, so for this location it is going to be college, young professional, trendy, hipster, alternative, what have you. I say, if you hate their selling system, try a consignment-style store. You can name your own price and the profits are usually better. BE offers instant cash or trade for your things, which is a lot different. It only makes sense they have more rules about what they accept. If you want to sell - CALL AHEAD. They always tell me what they are looking for, and what they do not want. For example, last summer I called about dresses - they said do not bother because we have WAY too many at the moment. It is a business transaction in the end- people need to try and look at it that way rather than like a blow to the ego. read more

Having been into Buffalo Exchange before as a potential buyer, I always walked out empty handed. The tired looking styles were not always as exciting to me as the items in similar places. I like sleek, modern clothes that are flattering, sexy and classic. I tend to stay away from places like The Gap. Being seen in the same outfit as half of the women I interact with every day just isn't my thing. I could never seem to find what I was looking for as a shopper at Buffalo Exchange which probably should have stopped me from trying to sell some clothes here. Frankly, as a shopper, I was always a bit bored at Buffalo Exchange. When I decided to get rid of some clothes, I thought I'd try getting a little beer money if I could and give this place a shot, knowing I could bring them next door to Goodwill if the Buffalo Gals did not like them. I called them first and heard all about their strict policy of only buying the most recent purchases in your closet and that they all had to be clean. They told me not to bring in clothes that were over a year old. Proud of my wardrobe, I bundled up twelve clean, stylish items to bring over as a first attempt at consigning here. All were new as of a year ago, clean and size 8. Then I added two older items that were still gorgeous, but I never wear them anymore. Who knows? I thought. If things go well, we can have a long-term relationship. I have a lot of clothes. After looking at each item, they only wanted two and to my surprise, they were the two old skirts I snuck into the stack. One was a T.J. Maxx purchase from at least 20 years ago. The other came from Macy's and was about 15 years old. So much for their policy of taking only the latest styles. I said thanks but no thanks for the offer of $7. I walked out with everything and happily gave some clothes that originally cost about $350 or $400 to the Goodwill Gals a few doors up. I guess the long term relationship of my dreams is still elusive when it comes to consigning clothes for cash. But those ladies over at Goodwill sure loved my donated clothes, and their appreciation genuinely felt a great deal better than getting $7 for a beer or two. read more

My two star review is solely based on the clothes selling experience I recently had at the Davis Square Buffalo Exchange. First, the store is set up in an awkward manner that makes sellers have to stand as not to block the entrance. This leaves the employees working the intake counter to have to continuously bark at the line to not block the door. Second, it's crazy the number of people who come in with loads and loads and LOADS of items. I'm not joking, suitcases brimming with stuff. I can't help but wonder if they are hoarders. I think a better business model would be for Buffalo Exchange to consider making sellers schedule appointments if they are bringing more than 5-7 items and having a designated employee deal with them. I completely understand that maybe not all of my clothing is top notch, high end designer, but all the same, it's not cheap junk. For instance, I tried selling a lovely, silk J Crew dress that had only been worn once, along with several pairs of Banana Republic wool pants and sweaters. Nope, these all were not up to the standard of the woman dressed like an 80 year old who allegedly has her fingers on the pulse of fashion in the Boston area. Ugh. Waste of my time. Long story short, I waited approximately an hour to attempt selling my small tote bag of items. The only thing they accepted was a bag that they gave me $6 for. The price of the bag was originally $150. Next time I will either go straight to Goodwill or sell my items on E-Bay. Waiting in line 15 minutes at the Post Office surely beats the Buffalo Exchange line of misery. read more

This review is for my experience attempting to sell here, not buying. I guess I should have known based on the numerous other reviewers saying so, but the girls at the counter are RUDE and catty. As catty as they can get away with before someone would complain to management. That aside, the selling experience is very straightforward - bring in your stuff, go up to the counter and bring a state issued ID, they go through your things and decide what to take. Then they offer either 50% trade credit or 30% cash. I brought in one bag of shoes; several heels, mostly designer labels, and one bag of clothes, and they did not want to take any of it. Cited - style was not what they wanted and historically similar things have not sold well. Ok, fair. The store is small though, so maybe an additional explanation for this is that the store just doesn't have much capacity. The woman in front of me brought in a lot lot more than I did and I overheard she got something like $350 store credit. Lesson: bring in a bunch of stuff to increase your chances of selling something, and be prepared to have a lot of things rejected. And if that happens, you can make like I did - walk to the end of the block and drop it in the Goodwill donation bin! :) read more

They are a little bit picky when you sell clothes to them, but it's understandable. I love how they go through your clothes right in front of you and give you the cash or in credir price on the spot. Also had a rain coat I got from Goodwill and they took it compared to more expensive clothes of mine that I was getting rid of....not sure what to say about that. Anyways, if they don't take all your clothes you can just drop the rest off at the Goodwill right down the street from it!! read more

Welcome to Davis Square, Buffalo Exchange... I think you'll fit in famously. If ever there was a more perfectly fitting (no pun intended) store to clothe the super hawt and trendy youngins of the D-Square, you are it. Somehow you've managed to assemble a most ecclectic selection of badass t-shirts, funky button-ups, flashy hoodies, and brightly colored DCs, nikes, and converse... and for this I'd like to hug you. Seriously, The Buffalo boasts a badass selection, and there were a zillion things I wanted to buy... including a t-shirt with a polar bear wearing sunglasses... but alas it was too big. waaaamp waaaaamp. My only gripe would be the prices... but hey, awesomeness isn't free. read more

Ok, so I sell here and buy here when the place isn't all crazy with shoppers and such. Being a curvy lady, I would say that 90% of the clothes here don't fit my boobs. Period. Its a crazy thing to think about because it makes me have high school flashbacks of not fitting into clothes I thought were cool and hip...hipster clothes have no love for 'the girls' for some reason. BUT I have found some wonderful shoes here, I have bought some of the coolest jackets I've ever owned, some awesome dresses I've been just WAITING to have a reason to wear, and I've sold some awesome clothes that don't fit me right. I almost always feel dooped on the price (sold a sweater I had worn twice (too short on me, but super cute from lulu.com) for 8 dolla. But really, its better than just giving it to good will! They are quite particular about what clothes they will take from you, but anything is better than throwing some super cool clothes over to good will for nothing! The ladies in there are ALWAYS super friendly and will chit chat with you for quite some time while going through your clothes. They make you feel like a buddy as opposed to a poor customer obviously trying to scrap up some mon-ay. But I will tell you-do NOT show up on a weekend-there will be 14 people in line to sell clothes and they will all have the largest garbage bags ever seen full of stuff. You'll go made waiting to sell your stuff. Another great thing-bring in your own bag! If you use your own existing bag, they will give you a token and you can choose a charity (usually have 4 choices) and they will give some sort of money towards the charity-money that is saved by you bringing in your won bag. Only 4 stars due to the "used" items being a little pricey...also they're picky on donations...one time I went there with literally FOUR TRASH BAGS full of clothes (some with tags still on) and all they took was one hat....meanwhile another girl brought a few of ugly brown sweaters and they took all her stuff. I discovered this place quite by accident and I was pleasantly surprised that not EVERYTHING in the store was made for runway models and/or people weighing less than 98 pounds. I'll echo the sentiment that some of the prices here are bizzarely expensive - tshirts for $14? Why??? However, with that said, I was able to find a brand new, tags still on, Kenneth Cole dress for $22. I also found an Ella Moss dress for $20, which is a steal considering there's nothing under $140 new on her website. I found some of the reviews below funny where the buyers are so subjective about what will sell. I found plenty of things on the racks that if they ever sell, I'd be surprised - how about a full outwear jacket fully engulfed by gold sequins? Where on earth would you even wear that?!?! I found the selection decent - especially being on the larger end of the sizes they carry. Some of the items simply weren't worth the cost, and so I just passed those over. Based on other reviews, I probably wouldn't attempt to re-sell items here since it seems so subjective. read more

Walked in, felt like i was being extremely judged and stared at. Within 3 workers only one person was handling the selling/ exchanging of clothing etc. There was 5 people ahead of me in line and they were moving very slowly probably would've taken about 5 hrs before i would get the chance to exchange/sell. The other 2 workers behind the desk excluding the one that was handling exchanges, one was playing with buttons while the other one was dressing a mannequin for maybe 45 minutes. overall not a good experience never going back to this particular one. read more

Don't go there thinking you'll be making a fortune and purging your closet. They're very selective about what they actually take. I understand that they can't take everything everyone brings in, but I was shocked at some of the things they turned their noses up at. Good place to shop, just don't go in with dollar signs in your eyes and be prepared to have a lot of your stuff turned down. read more

Big selection to choose from which is amazing, lots of variety. However most items are overpriced for the condition/setting of where the article is being sold. 10 day return policy is hard to manage - I bought a blouse from this location 13 days ago and it's already starting to fall apart, without even wearing it out. So, I'm sort of new to this whole "sell/recycle" my clothes concept. My gal pal finally turned me on to it after two years of trying/making it clear that this is definitely a wonderful thing to do. Vagabonded packrat that I am, it seemed too difficult, for far too long, to relinquish that fab gown I wore when I was fifteen (aka half my life ago) and never again, those shoes that are a smidge too small (but gosh their cuteness made the pain worth it), or to finally sort through my collected rags and take stock of what I am wearing now that I'm cruising into my thirties (sigh, no one told me baggy fleece shirts were out since the mid-90's - thankfully the 20-something hipsters are into them now). After much urging and dancing of joy on the part of my friend regarding the new local opening of Buffalo Exchange, I was persuaded to sort through my belongings and collect viably-salable-but-terribly-neglected clothing, shoes and jewelry and bring them on in. I was astounded to see just how much I was willing and able to unload. Together, gal pal and I carted a mountain of clothes over for evaluation by the Buffalo Exchange staff. I must say, it's peculiarly humbling to have someone search through your clothes (your memories, man!) and determine what has worth (by the store's standards). But also, a bit liberating. I fared rather well for my first time, wrangling close to a hundred for what was previously a ghost wardrobe of frivolous youth. The satisfaction (and the earning of store credit), as well as the great selection of items, hooked me instantly. Gone are the heavy sighs at the prospect of sorting through hundreds of pounds of clothing to find a hidden gem (sorry thrift stores, you still have a purpose, just, a very different one now). This has become my go-to place whenever I need a little wardrobe revamp or inspiration. The staff were really sweet though I can't help myself from questioning the whole ascribing-worth-to-things process - I'll leave that to the realm of mysteries and processes I'll never understand (e.g. putting on makeup, esotericism, Stonehenge) and trust that there is relative consistency between buyers. An eyebrow had to be raised occasionally, though, at higher-than-market-value pricing for items very obviously from H&M and Wet Seal. Still. The vibe was nice, the selection eclectic, and the experiences thus far, very pleasant. Ultimately, I'm all about the wardrobe recycling, which is something I haven't felt with any other thrift-like/Goodwill experience. Also, there is good incentive, knowing that my store credit is redeemable at all Buffalo Exchange locations (CA & NY, holla)! read more

3.5 Stars. While I'm fairly satisfied with the pricing (I probably wouldn't have gotten the same prices at Beacon's Schmeacon's Closet), I still need to assert my 1st Amendment and say.... Why is it that consignment store employees feel the need to act as snobby as their not-so-equal fashion runway counterparts? Quite frankly, the people bringing IN the clothes to sell are probably the ones who are the real snob-sters anyway (actually, if theyre like me, they're financial retards and bought some ridiculous brand-name items retail price). ANYHOW, all I'm saying is that this is DAVIS SQUARE, SOMERVILLE, MA, not Rodeo Drive, LA or Soho, NYC (and even there there's no reason to be snobilicious, I'm pretty sure most of the ppl there are in debt like the rest of this country). I really don't see the need to act all Park Slope to Williamsburg Brooklyn-ish. News flash, you're dealing with USED CLOTHES, not matter what label! read more

Purchased a pair of pants here new a few days ago. Didn't fit, tried to return them with the tags still on. They would not accept the return without the receipt. This is the 21st century, use your fingers and that computer to make this return happen. Providing decent costumer service is not rocket science. read more
