Don't waste your time... Like most of the reviews on yelp for buffalo exchange, I wasted a good amount of time here on one of my days off. I had heard previously that they weren't exactly "fair" regarding purchasing of clothes. I knew someone who worked here years ago who would refuse to purchase from random customers who walked in the door. She would only purchase from her friends or family who would come in and attempt to sell their clothes. I hadn't been here in a long time and figured I would give them a shot, since I had a lot of clothes that still had the tags on them and didn't want to just dump them off at goodwill. When I came in, the amount of pure garbage that was on their shelves was insane (old, dirty converse sneakers, yellowed/discolored "vintage" style t-shirts, scratched up/scuffed up old sun glasses, etc...). I had 3 full bags of clothes, almost all of which still had the tags on them. Not only did i have brand new clothes (5 pairs of Levi's jeans with the tags), I had a few pairs of brand new Nikes that I had never had worn. The girls at the purchasing counter were very hipster, snooty, typical downtown ventura thrift store groupies. They BS'ed with me for a good half hour while they picked through my clothes. These girls didn't even attempt to look like they were interested in my clothes. They would unfold and refold without even looking at the clothes. After a while of BSing with these thrift store groupies, they informed me that they didn't find anything but to "make sure to bring in any plus size clothing or vintage clothing". Needless to say, I was kind of confused as to why they had no interest in my clothes, especially new Levi's. Shame on me, for thinking the hipsters that work here would be interested in the type of clothes I brought in. But shame on them, for not treating their customers fairly. These girls truly give this company a bad name. Buffalo exchange has all of the perfect ingredients for being a great store in ventura but, your company will never thrive if there are dishonest, selfish people working for you. I will never shop here, sell here, or recommend anyone to come here. Poor excuse for a company. read more

Great store. Why 3 stars? I would give it 4 stars, but I feel bad that they have 3. If someone is complaining that they didn't offer you enough for an article of clothing compared to what you thought you could get on eBay, then just remembered. Expensive brick and mortar rent and paid employees. This is a good thing. When I was offered too little for a really nice leather jacket I turned down that offer. This place used to be amazing! The prices were just right. Five ish years ago, they really started racking up the prices unbelievably.. unless something is unused, or with original tags it should not cost more than 2/3 of the original price (and I'm talking high-end clothes, anyways). They have used American Eagle blank shirts there for $20? I don't even consider this place at thrift store anymore. Not to mention when you take your stuff to sell I would say they don't take more than 1/3 of your clothes and consider yourself lucky if they even take that much. I have brought Lululemon, Urban outfitters, Columbia, and sometimes they take my clothes and give me maybe $20. I would definitely say that most of the people who work here don't even know much about clothing prices in today's world. They should have educational training classes every month or at least every three months on new or trending brands that are big in style. I mean you're gonna tell me that my $98 Lululemon leggings in perfect condition are worth three dollars in return? I took slightly used Burton snowboarding boots, brand new snow, pants, and a great looking once used ripcurl wetsuit and they gave me $30 for all of it. I'll never be returning here for selling. I've given them several chances since I live in this area it's just more convenient. But I'm done, I drive to LA to the Melrose location now as the employees have more knowledge and have such a different attitude. This is a girl's dream! Great selection of vintage new and used clothing for an ultimate all-day shopping spree! I knew this was a too-good-to-be-true store when I was shopping for almost hours finding a lot of good stuff to add to my closet. Great selection in every size! I found some great tops and dresses. The fitting room girl that was there (the blonde-haired girl) was totally cool and friendly. The Buffalo Exchange also carries neat purses and accessories. Prices are pretty cheap here, too. Love this place. They always have cool and slightly quirky stuff at great prices. Sometimes I will clean out my closet to find stuff to sell back to them for store credit. Fair deals on everything I have bought and sold there over the years. Staff are super nice, charming and cute (sorry if that came off as sexist but they are all really cute! I'm sorry-they are!) Would NOT recommend. I took my daughter shopping here and you could tell the employees didn't know what they were doing. When she tried stuff on there was a 10 item limit. When we brought items back the guy made us keep some so he didn't need to do the math on how many we had. When we went to check out, buying $200 worth of clothes, the sales woman told us "we don't have any bags", so I asked what were suppose to do with that many items and no bags, she just kept responding "we don't have any bags"... so she tried to give me a random trash bag someone left, which is absolutely disgusting to me... a random trash bag for that many clothes?! A random customer started yelling at my daughter and myself, no help from the staff...just you can carry all this stuff, no bag OR use a random trash bag. Some woman behind us started yelling at us "this is California" and became confrontational as well... again, no help regarding harassment from customers OR bags. I chimed in bc I'm not going to let grown women yell at my kid, once I said something then there was staff to try to calm things down. No one says anything to these women yelling at my child, no on bothers ordering more bags... but once I said something then they want to chime in. This isn't how you treat customers spending $200 at your store. Very nice buffalo exchange! It was big and clean and there were a lot of options. Very well organized and there is enough space to move around compared to some of the other buffalo exchanges that I have been to. I found a neat vintage Hard Rock Cafe shirt and some beautiful earrings. Some things are overpriced but some stuff is very fair. The stuff is curated and they pay money for their inventory so of course it will cost more than other thrift stores on Main Street. Husband and I loved it, and we love shopping second hand whenever possible. He walked out with a nice pair of pants too. The customer service was really good, as well. Both at the checkout and in the fitting room. Would highly recommend to check it out! read more

There was a time when buffalo exchange was cool and the employees were genuine and took great stuff. I was just here and the employees don't know much about fashion or style, they focus on trends like it's a forever 21. Buffalo use to be a place you could find unique items and vintage, this location is like a boutique goodwill. The employees aren't knowledgeable, it feels very corporate-y and they are terrible at conversation. The fake happy makes me never want to come here again, it's ok to be genuine and authentic, everything feels very forced like they have a big boss over their shoulder at all times. If I could give them no stars I would but something needs to be done about this. I had a huge bag of clothes to bring to the exchange, brand new jeans, brand name leather jackets, shoes, expensive jewelry, you name it. After driving 30mins on my day off to my nearest location I arrive at what seems to be a quaint little shop with some hipsters working the register. I sat and waited my turn as there were 3 people ahead of me looking to sell their items as well. All 3 people brought in a couple small bags or single items that were purchased by the staff who laughed and talked to them like old friends. One woman in particular had in fact been there often and knew people by name, this should have been my first red flag. Anyway, I get up to the register with my things in hand and a big smile on my face. A woman who by context I can only assume was the manager scowled at me, the first and last time she would make any eye contact with me. She rudely ripped things out of my bag rolling her eyes and barely looking at what she was holding. I tried to start a conversation and was shot down with a single "no". She had another employee standing next to her grabbing things out of the bag who also made no eye contact or a single gesture to make me feel welcomed there. After going through everything sooner than I had time to process what was happening, she pushed it back to me and said "we didn't find anything today". Am I upset they saw no value in my things, absolutely. But what I'm really upset about is how they treated me. No one deserves to go somewhere looking for a good customer service experience and be treated like a second class citizen. This woman was an utter witch, I pity the staff that has to work with her. I walked away confused. Do you have to be a part of the good ole boys club for them to even give you the time of day? I'm disgusted with the experience I had and the god awful woman I had to put on a happy face for when I was at my wits end. Don't waste your time selling clothes here. I was basically lectured by the girl behind the counter on what items they buy back. Fine sure some I get, but you claim to buy back vintage items. The bleached kitsune wannabe behind the counter basically only bought what she probably thought would look good on her. Passing over the designer pea coat stating they need them fitted. It is it's just not your size sweetie. The leather wasn't a specific style and my vintage 70s coat wasn't good enough for a "vintage" shop. Pass your ass over this place if you're looking to sell. I've sold here a few times, it's hit or miss whether they buy any of my stuff.. usually miss. It depends who you sell to, a lot of the workers here are really uptight about what they buy. I bring a lot of NICE brand new things in, and they won't take it.. however, if you look on their racks, it's a lot of ugly old beat up things that will never sell. I've had one bad experience here that made me change my mind about my shopping experience here. I came in and bought a pair of sandals. They were on sale, but the cashier never told me about the refund policy for sale items. Upon getting home and playing with my sandals, I realized they were extremely damaged. I brought them back in to exchange for a different pair and one of the workers was extremely rude to me about it. I know it's not the worker's fault and it's the store policy, but don't be rude to me bc one of your coworkers didn't inform me. Not only that, but these should have had a damage sticker or something letting me know they were messed up. Clothing is mediocre at best, workers are mostly rude, not worth your time. read more

Fantastic selection, awesome variety, amazing customer service (Calle, especially, is GREAT!!) She totally helped us find several perfect pieces that were just right for our taste preference and body style!! You, your slacker boyfriend, your hippie mom, your preppie dad, your retired grandmom, and your slutty little sister (or any combination of such) can all find great choices for clothing, shoes, and accessories. Okay... so firstly, I worked in secondhand retail for years (Crossroads.) It ain't no joke. From junkies coming in trying to get their next fix to entitled customers. Most of these people are being paid minimum wage plus NO tips and weekends are chaos. Customers usually don't understand. I went in this morning and was told it was a 10-20 minute wait.... 30 minutes go by. I still have 4 people ahead of me with bags and bags. They have no sign in sheet no actual wait time estimate based on number of items... just line up behind those people over there.. so that's a downside. Should definitely be improved. Don't tell someone it will be 15 mins if it's gonna be an hour. (Crossroads at least has a iPad system you can leave/ go down the street and be informed when you're next in line via automated text.) Anyways, I came back later. The girl who helped me was super sweet and cute! Despite lack of professionalism while just talking to her coworker while barely looking at some of my items. I feel like their take/ don't take should be better. I see a ton of forever 21 on the floor and yet they're not taking my American apparel/ anthro. (Which I know is based off how many size xsmall/small stuff they already have in the store now) also, $13 for a free people tank and $10 for a forever21 tank.... that was probably $10 new.... you shouldn't be taking fast fashion at all, just saying But I love that this place takes vintage and retro fun stuff! Compared to the "current and contemporary" I was used to. You can find rad stuff you honestly won't find anywhere else unless you thrift. I was offered $39 (which gave me $11 cash) for a Kate spade black leather crossbody that I honestly think could've been sold for $50 but hey what you gonna do? hold onto and sell it elsewhere haha Go in with zero expectations! So if you walk out with $10 you're happy. They can't take everything from everyone!That's all I can suggest. And know weekends are chaos. OH also the $2 or no bag is kinda wack. Maybe sell some reusable bags for .50 or something. Also, the no exchanges on half off stuff is also pretty wack. We get you don't want it back but that's a straight loss if I don't wanna try on cause it's busy. All in all, I'm definitely gonna go back and sell/ shop. Huge step up from crossroads. I wanted some new tops without breaking the bank and figured I'd give Buffalo Exchange a try before going to buy new. The selection was incredible, they literally have something for everyone there. It was the most organized clothing exchange (thrift store) I've ever been in. And while that is great, what made my experience even better was the staff. Specifically, a young lady named Cici helped us into the dressing room and remembered us when we got to the register. This used to be my go-to store for band t-shirts and ripped jeans. Maybe the style has been changing in society or maybe they stopped buying those items, because the last couple times I went in I searched well over 15 minutes and found not a single item excited me. I usually take a friend or two and search for anything edgy; but avoiding crop tops has become impossible. I prefer distressed tops, cutouts, laced and strappy styles and very dark wash jeans with nice detail. The store is filled with basic tops and bottoms in strange sizes. There is nothing here you couldn't find at a large department store, which stinks, because I used to shop here a lot and found many of my favorite clothing items in BE. Overall, I can't really recommend unless you're looking for tons of crop tops and basic bottoms. But they only really carry what people are after! read more

Honestly the guys that work here are very rude. They look at you up and down and roll their eyes. Same with some of the girls and they act really stuck up. Coming in here is very uncomfortable because I feel like they feel forced to help you if you have a question about the clothing or the way they sell. Selling clothes here is a hit or miss, mostly miss depending on who looks through your clothes. Sometimes they dont even look through them as much as just fold them back into your bag for you, which is annoying but whatever. Finding something can also be challenging but the things I've found here have been my all time favourites. You just have to have the patience to look through everything carefully. Like many hipster, trendy places, the girls are petty and rude and it's not worth giving them your business. I can find the same stuff at thrift stores or consignment shops and sell my clothes on Vinted for more, and not have to put up with the bullshit here. If you're a relatively nice person you probably won't want to surround yourself with the negativity and bad vibes here. I thought I was overreacting, but after reading the other 1 star reviews it validated my horrible experience here. Like everyone else, they rejected almost all my stuff. I was looking around and they had a mannequin high above the counter that had a HUGE coffee stain all over it! Really? Rejecting all this clothing but you have that gross item on display? Laughable. THEN they forgot to take the ink tag off of my jeans. I was pretty pissed when I got home and realized I had to go all the way back to a store I decided to never shop in again. When I got back, I didn't say anything or try to complain, just wanted my ink tag off. One of the nicer girls, tried offering me a $5 of $20 card to make up for it- which was nice, but kind of insult to injury because I'm never going to use the card because I will never go back here! The 1 star reviews are SPOT on. It's a snobby store, they'll reject almost all your items, and whatever they do take they will probably lie about how much they'll try to sell it for to keep from giving you what you deserve for your items. They turned down my true religion, express, banana republic, and lululemon- all in season clothing. When browsing the racks, you can tell all they want is ratty worn out clothing. They say "this is the Ventura style" which I beg to differ. They need to have more of a selection than just that. The buffalo exchange in San Diego is much better and accept way more clothing. It's one thing if it's a political attire or something of a highly controversial option, but a shirt that says " SLAVES , obey your masters with fear and trembling" this is not ok. While I'm pleased that there are consignment stores don't be surprised if your clothes are rejected by the staff. The surprising thing is a lot of the product they are selling looks like it should be in a thrift shop , yet it's there and the prices aren't cheap. So if you believe your a fashionista you might be in for a rude awakening when they look through your clothes and hand the bags right back to you. Mind you I'm a casual dresser, jeans, tees. And flats most of the time but I've had friends with impeccable taste go in and be shot down. As for funky eclectic clothing junkies, they loved worn jeans and holey sweaters , you will probably adore the store. I've sold with this Buffalo exchange a few times... what they buy and how they price your pieces completely depends on who you're selling to. I've had associates at first refuse clothes, only to be "caught" by managers or other buyers who then bought what the first associate passed on. This has happened more than once, so if you're planning to sell, ask if a manager or experienced associate is available - this afternoon, I had an associate pass on a few good quality designer pieces that I plan to sell elsewhere, without actually looking at them. the previous reviews are true - a lot of the people working there are unnecessarily snobby (if you browse through their inventory, you'll understand why I use that description - it's almost always picked over). The seller I was working with today was particularly bitchy with a demeaning tone, and became completely uninterested in my clothes when I decided to lie (due to her attitude), and tell her I primarily shop at thrift stores to see how discriminatory she was, and to test her skills... she was already on an ego trip, so I figured it'd be a way to gauge their staff. needless to say, the designer pieces slipped through without being looked at after that point. she tried to explain to me that they were primarily looking for fall/winter clothes, which is great, but to pass on a blouse that was originally marked in the hundreds is just stupid, or a rookie mistake at best. I get that they cater to their invocation of "ventura hipster style", but drawing from personal experience and need, not everyone shopping resale wants to wear that. further proof that it depends on who you're selling to is the fact that she didn't buy back clothes I had bought from them (which were in the same condition as purchased) months ago...clothes that have already sold in their location! after today, I'll never be back to shop or sell. after buying for years and selling for a little under a year, their inventory has just been slowly deteriorating in quality and style... to the point that it's just a waste of time and a waste of a drive for me to browse through bad, overstocked clothes and deal with inexperience and attitude. A great location to buy high quality clothes for second hand prices. The associate Karlee helped us out soooo much! Constantly making sure we didn't have to carry around our clothes and switching clothes out once we were in the changing rooms. She made our experience a million times better! read more

But Sell Trade gently used items (clothes, shoes, handbags, etc..). I've been a big fan of BE since I'm from SF but this lil spot although super hip and in a prime location on main st gets tons of foot traffic but declined to buy and sell much. I brought in multiple bags of items with still tags on them, season appropriate, and name brand and they didn't buy anything. But they did offer to donate for me so I wouldn't have to go to good will (no tax write off, but I wasn't looking for one anyways). I'm assuming they sell what they can of the "donated clothes" after the seller is gone. Whatever. My biggest concern is this is a second hand store. Used items. But retail price is $$-$$$ stars. Pricey and yet they offer very little for buying. They tell you the retail price that they supposedly would use but if you scout the store you will soon realize you can't find anything (used anything) for less than $15. I have been buying/selling my clothes at Buffalo Exchange for over 25 years (8 years at the Ventura store). It is one of my favorite places to find unique & vintage pieces (I brought in all my vintage clothing & accessories when I closed my vintage shop a couple of years ago). I have noticed in the last few years that the customer service has changed...especially in the last year. I used to enjoy coming in, but now I find I only come in when I need something specific and I have exhausted all other options. The staff is extremely young and seem to be clueless as to what good customer service entails. I am now met with too cool attitudes or superficial kindness. It is such a bummer! read more

I brought in some of my 23 year old son's expensive designer clothes to resell (mostly purchased in hip Melrose) because he had lost weight and they no longer fit. The girl at the counter sneeringly told me "we don't take business clothes for OLDER people...this is a store for younger people" when she looked at the men's vest he had included. I realize they have to make a profit, but they offered me about $4 for NEW Chuck Taylors and NEW Sketchers High Tops still in the box with tags. I took my stuff and left. This may be a fine place for college kids to shop for overpriced used clothing - but I wouldn't bother trying to sell them anything.
