I recently had some medical issues that caused me to be admitted to General Hospital for a few days I was admitted through the ER and although it was a long process because the ER was extremely busy I believe I was treated well. All the staff were kind and courteous and the ER waiting area was calm and under control. I think the staff did an excellent job considering a show event was imminent, and I was an impatient during a blizzard. The nurses who were mandated to stay due to call ins from the next shift remained professional and did a great job! I was lucky to be cared for by a wonderful nursing and surgery staff. The hospital did was not half bad for the type diet I was prescribed and I was in able to call the kitchen and order my own food. The only downside to my hospital stay was the strong cold draft from the windows and the cleanliness of my room. It's true there was a blizzard but the room was so cold I was glad I had a hat to keep me warm. And it was the weekend so I think the housekeeping staff is less on the weekends. Nevertheless, if I need urgent medical care I would not hesitate to go to General Hospital ER. read more

i use to call this my go to hospital ive been sitting here for 4 hours in this waiting room and the volume did not decrease but increased and the care is slow. Care quality is NA! Dude to my a** hurting sitting in waiting room cant stand or walk around bcuz dizziness is one of reasons I'm here. im hearing people say they've been here for 8-10 hrs. im here. because i thought i was havibg a stroke all triage said was tgere going-to gave me some nausea meds u can take that at home. IV cocktail as they called it could have been done and sent on way either in a hour of getting here. the government wanna take doctors out off networks for people to be cramped like sardines in a emergency to end up leaving without care and still billed by the state No matter if yiu didn't make it past triage or not. get it together!!! The ER is a horrible, patient transferred by ambulance waited in ambulance bay for many, many hours. We could not see our family member for the entire time and we never received an update. I asked at the desk every 1/2 hour and we were told we could not go back because he did not have a room. I found out from the patient (by text) that he was being admitted. I know the ER is busy but there is absolutely no communication. The staff just yell out people's names all day and night. Kalieda Health does not support their staff or patients, they make enormous amounts of money and do not provide adequate service to their patients or community. They must do better. read more

Just always seems busy and a mess and not entire friendly Two people there one just looked at me while the other never turn around to acknowledge me standing there. Literally been here for 8hrs and counting as im writing this. The whole waiting area has refreshed from 8pm-4pm i go to the front desk and ask for a waiting time the lady told me triage B i walk to triage B and tried to explain how the waiting room refreshed and she said it's still full but said nobody's in here and I meant nobody that was here when I got here was here and basically brushed me off saying they're trynna get things done while literally 4-5 of them are just sitting in triage b just talking and laughing while I explained my heart feels like it's pressure with numbing and pins and needles sensation and more symptoms. Literally care quality sucks here they just want us to die to get paid. This is ridiculous. The wait time with chest pain was atrocious thankfully I wasn't having a heart attack because if I was, I would've died in the waiting room. However, when I did finally get seen, I did get quality care and was back on my feet in no time. Practioners were phenomenal the nurses were Excellent .Some did only as much as they had to while others one out of their way and one above and beyond. horrible experience. husband came here with chest pains had his vitals taken TWICE in TWELVE HOURS. Had one EKG & blood tests. never gave results or even saw doctor until 12 hours after arrival. sat in the waiting room where apparently they let homeless people stay when it's cold & feed them. I have no problem with that except- One of the men was very verbally abusive to patients & visitors. Threatened to kill whoever was in his way. Used multiple racial slurs & scared several of us. After the 3rd outburst I told security please do something. the security guard laughed & said the man does it every day. That is so wrong! He should not be allowed here& sent to a shelter that can handle him in a better way!! It's not a laughing matter. The woman's bathroom was a filthy mess. long term messy with nasty stuff splashed all over the stall door, filthy floor, holes in the wall. As a former EMT this is by far the worst hospital ER visit I have ever witnessed. My 84 year old mother had 300 sugar and chest pain with dizzyness. They left us sitting there for 9 hours! 1pm to 1030pm and she was never called or treated. The trioge nurse said "I will see if they want to.do a urine test" in response to my mom saying it burns when she sees. This hospital needs to be investigated. A purely neglectful hospital with low quality personnel. You can tell they hire the medical candidates that no other facility wants to hire. The nurses are getto and unprofessional. The Trioge nurse is Godless. Find another hospital. 84 years old and 9 hours was not enough time to get diagnosed and treated. M​​​y mother has a pacemaker is a heart patient with diabetes and low blood pressure and they litterally left her there from 1pm to 1015pm until she urinated on herself. read more

For the most part, the staff on floor 13 North have been great....However the weekend staff and the night Shift staff have been not so great...1 day I went to the desk, because some milk got spilled on the floor and we needed a mop ... the lady wouldn't even look up at me or acknowledge I was talking to her. Today, I came in to check on my loved one, and he tells me....On 4/10/24 during the night Shift....he needed assistance to use the bathroom, and called twice. No body came to help him. He sat in his own excrement for 3 hours. when someone finally came in ....they didn't even help him get cleaned up!!! unacceptable!!! Shame on the nightshift staff!!! read more

Transferred there after my nearby hospitals not available. Staff very pleasant. Communication between Doctors and Nurse's very very poor. Was told on 3 different occasions I would be discharged, then to find out it wasn't ordered or planned due to other concerns from other departments. I had 2 roommates leave Against Medical Advice (signing AMA puts all the cost and liability against you!) because of the same confusion. I work in health care and find this very disturbing. I was sent here the other day by urgent care for blood work to check on frequent vertigo. I sat in the waiting room for a total of 8 hours for a procedure that took 5 minutes. Only reason I bothered is that Quest was closed. To make matters worse, they had no idea what is wrong with me because my labs were perfect. Off to my PCP again to figure out what to do. This place is a total and complete shit show!! My grandfather was here due to a stroke. My husband and I went to visit, the way they have things set up is ridiculous! Two people cannot go visit a loved one together, instead of sitting 6 ft apart In The waiting room(where they have the chairs 6 ft apart) you have to sit hip to hip with strangers in the vestibule than switch and go visit!! I sat so close between two strangers who were coughing and touching me , then go visit someone in ICU. I've never seen such backwards thinking! In the last four years, both my elderly parents passed away at Buffalo General Hospital after a few months stay. Although a horrible time, my folks were treated with dignity, excellent medical care, and amazing compassion. Between this time, my husband had an emergency cardio procedure and the experience was better than anything we ever experienced. Our past experiences have been at the top hospitals in Chicago, Illinois and Buffalo General Hospital out ranks them all. Thank You to all who cared for us!!! read more

I wish I could give zero stars. DO NOT take elderly patients here, they are ignored and neglected. No communication between departments, no one has a clue whatsoever. My mom was admitted, had an aortic valve replacement and they kept her there over 40 days doing every test imaginable. First she was placed on a covid floor (she's 80 and did not have covid). No physical therapy was done so now she can't use her arms or legs. Because she had no use of her hands she could not eat. She suffered from hospital induced dementia because of all the drugs they gave her. Her roommate was insane and was up all night. She also stole my mother's clothes. Usually nurses are amazing and very caring. Not so on the 14th floor. I will NEVER go or have a family member go to Buffalo General again. I entered the hospital at High and Ellicott. Once inside, a set of automatic double doors swung out toward me. The right-most door opened only part of the way and I walked into its edge. I was in considerable pain, bent over and moaning loudly, no more than 30 feet from the front desk. All 5-6 people behind the desk looked up at me briefly and then went back to their chatting. Not a single BGH employee approached me to see if I was seriously injured. What kind of hospital is this? What kind of horrible people do they hire there? Shame on this "hospital". Would have given a ZERO if possible. Horrible service. Husband brought into Buffalo General by ambulance from an outpatient vascular surgery center. He sat in a hallway for hours begging for some type of pain medication and received none. He is not a drug attic and was not just looking for pain medication, something was very very very wrong. Told after two hours of waiting in a hallway, for a cat scan that he was next. Three hours later, he was still waiting for a 10 minute cat scan. He was in the emergency room from 12:30 pm to after 6 pm to have a cat scan, absolutely no pain medication. Cat scan showed dissection of left iliac artery, he could bleed to death and was made to wait in a hallway for hours and given absolutely NO medical attention what so ever. He was told "more important patients are in front of you". I think, a dissected iliac artery would be a high priority if DEATH WAS A POSSIBILITY!!! Stay away from Buffalo General Hospital. Workers do NOT CARE about the patients care at this hospital. VERY SAD AND AGGRAVATING. read more

I've been here twice in one week and both times for serious conditions - having a bad reaction to a antibiotic and they run blood work and send you home. They only want to shove more drugs (Tylenol - heartburn meds...that wasn't even a symptom I was having) down your throat instead of getting to the actual cause of things. What the hell happened to this place, my wife and I went to the same hospital eight years ago for the same emergency, and it is like night and day. Eight years ago we got right into see a doctor, all the doctors and nurses were highly professional, tonight we were there for over two hours and never saw a doctor, the nurse doing triage was less than helpful. One would expect there was some kind of big accident or something but there was none. The staff overall just looked like they were defeated, there was no sense of emergency in the emergency room. It wasn't a great experience, Communication was poor. My mother was in there with a mild stroke and put on a floor ( 9S) that was not associated with this kind of problem - making the caregiving very discombobulated. When coming home the communication from the discharge planning and nurses was plain ridiculous- I was hung up on twice. As a nurse myself I can only imagine that Covid has made the delivery of healthcare challenging of course but there's a limit. I would not send my mother back to this hospital. read more

Nice facilities and they are clean. But there are problems with the staff. The people are kinda cold-blooded. A lady who works at the front desk in the emergency room (grey hair and glasses) belts out people's names loudly to check their vital signs. Where'd they get her--the army (no offense to America's army which fights bad dictatorships)? Also, they are making people in that same ER wait for many hours to get the diagnosis long after the last test the individual took. Also, I did not see a change machine for people who have nothing smaller than a 10 dollar bill and need some vending machine food. Furthermore, the staff in the ER waiting seems a little cold if you talk to them after they are done testing you. They are however very lighthearted and friendly with each other. read more

This is the rest of the review from the burned arm above what happened at Buffalo General I could never allow such a thing that happened to my husband and go home that night and sleep soundly as if it never happened unless you are narcissistic sad but there are many nurses and doctors whom walk this earth everyday like that. What happened to him put such a fire in me that I began to hate hospitals, doctors, and nurses I mostly hated the fact that no one seemed to really care it was like another day to them like it happened everyday no one wanted to touch him cause they were afraid they would be involved when his doctor seem it he jumped back like he had never seem anything like it I had to plead with someone to bandage it up cause the more I looked at it the angrier I got. He was in so much pain, I had to pray and ask God please remove this hatred in my heart and until this day the hate is gone but I don't trust nurses and doctors. Well as I stated before I felt better the next day cause I knew he would get a snack and cause he fell low the night before I just knew this would not happen again when it could have been avoided with just a tiny prick, blood glucose monitoring should be ordered for all inpatients with diabetes or hyperglycemia and for those at risk for hyperglycemia. Point of care results need to be readily available to all staff to identify the patients response to treatment, hyperglycemia trends, and hypoglycemia episodes. Patients receiving insulin must be monitored closely hourly in many cases. So how, how, could this happen again I asked myself over and over (I guess maybe it was a busy night or maybe nobody cared but guess what I did) the second night in a roll. Well I went home early that night usually we speak on the phone many times throughout the night but the last time I spoke to him he said his IV was burning him he said Kim I told the nurse and she said give it some time it will go away it was burning him because it was leaking into the surrounding tissues of his arm because of improper placement or dislodgement of the catheter. (wrong answer nurse) right answer ok let's change it. But she did not change it she went on to her next patient on top of that she fell to also check his sugar levels and he fell low again (are you kidding me) to this point where he almost died and had seizures how long the vacamyocin continued to run in the surrounding tissues of his arm only the nurses will know but it ran till it damaged the nerves in his arm and burned the skin off of his arm it was horrible (how would you feel if that happened to one of your loved ones would it be okay Debra would you just say oh mistakes happen it's ok well let this go)he has low sugar and is in a coma and having seizures they now come in and push dextrose which is worse than vacamycin in this same catheter IV arm till they realize it's going into the surrounding tissues of his arm. Thank God someone realizes this and now takes it out after the damage has been done and sticks a Cather in his neck. Somebody knew what to do and brought my husband back but not until the damage had been done. Well since I had not received a call from my husband since that night Iam now worried so I rush to get to the hospital to see something so horrible a fire lit up in me and I wanted to tear that hospital floor apart. As I began to walk in his room I hear the night shift laughing telling the morning shift we had a seizure patient last night not thinking they were talking about Michael but I thought to myself how can they be laughing about something like that you guys have changed my whole opinions about doctors and nurses. The Spanish guy looks at me like he had seen a ghost I finally reach my husband and I couldn't even cry I was on fire and it seemed just like a normal day to you guys like oh this happens all the time. To this day I still cry remembering that day the pain and the suffering we went through after we went home he could no longer hold a plate in that arm cause the nerves had been damaged he would forget and drop the whole plate on the floor I cried because he lost the nerves in that arm, I cried because you added to his sickness, I cried caused he suffered and I cried because I suffered. Your letter of apology if that's what you call it is not justice you did not provide the best of care for my husband you provided the worst of care for him you sent him home sicker than he was before he went in you caused serious injury to his arm permanent harm and tissue necrosis. How about that Debra do you still think you provided great care to my husband. You were negligent in the care of my husband and the sad truth of it all is that you know you were your staff know they were and anybody that was involved were.
