Road trip side step…read more On my way to my final destination I made a stop in the Buffalo area to see some things before I could check into my hotel. I have been in search of some Presidential sites recently and came across this while browsing for things to do before I left for my vacation. If you happen to stop by the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site they kind of point you in this direction. If not done on purpose, it's in a passing manner. There you will understand my Teddy had his swearing in ceremony because of what happened near this site. In this beautiful, planned out community you will stumble upon a median in the road that holds mostly trees and a variety of plants. Every so often it is dotted with rocks. This rock was purposefully put here. This community once held the Pan-American Expo, an expansive exposition of the countries from the Americas. With the expo there were many makeshift buildings built that could easily be torn down once the expo reached completion. The building that this stones represents, in a manner, was the Temple of Music. Just outside the temple, President McKinley would be shot by a man and ultimately pass away due to the gunshot. This stone is meant to be a monument or maybe a placard to remind you of what once happened in this area. It is well maintained and as other reviews have stated, usually flanked by small American flags. Some housekeeping here. Be mindful of the area, this is a neighborhood and you are visiting. Do not block a driveway. It is a road, be aware of your surroundings and traffic. Do not trample the area. Lastly, make it quick, there isn't much else to see here.

So, this rock is the only thing to remind the USA of McKinley's assassination and the only president to be inaugurated outside of DC. If you're looking for the full tour, add a stop to Delaware and W. Ferry, which is where McKinley died (there's just a sign there). And then go to the Roosevelt Museum/National Park. It's work the small price of admission and is a small, yet well done museum (perhaps a bit too patriotic, but that's to be expected I suppose).

Our tour guide Ellen did an excellent job of narrating this 1.5 hour trip down the Buffalo River. She spoke for nearly the whole time and wove together many different facets of industry, history, and local lore. Summer weekends look to be quite popular for this tour so I suggest getting a reservation on-line - their website and the process is very easy to use. Definitely a must do when in Buffalo!

After a brief rundown on what's going to happen, we boarded the trolley. It's worth mentioning that Wendt center is gorgeous and holds lots of information on Forest Lawn. The trolley was spacious, comfortable and since it's covered, operates in the rain as well. Our guide was excellent! He seemed to know everything about the cemetery and enjoyed questions. As we drove, costumed people emerged and would get on board. Their stories were so interesting and amusing. Forest Lawn is big! Every tour is a little different. The environmental conditions were explained too. I never realized how much is going on in there. I was surprised to see large monuments still under construction. It doesn't matter how you feel about cemeteries, it is so much more than that. They have general tours as well as "gangster" and walking tours. Definitely something here for everyone.

Both the location and appearance of Buffalo's Central Terminal has been know to scare people, but…read moredon't succumb to that impulse - this place is totally worth visiting! When you walk around inside the terminal, more likely than not the sights and the feel of this place will start your mind wondering about what happened here when this place shut down... If you' not brave enough to exlporing inside, the lines and shape of the main building and the lovely clocks all around are reason enough by themselves to at least do a drive-by :-)

Come to think of it, this building seems just about haunted enough for that to be true. And if it were the Petal Terminal, well then it'd be a harmless Flower Market. Then again perhaps a Flower Market is a synonym for something gruesome. Hmm. Let me think on that one. I recently represented Yelp here at a booth, and that was really cool, to hang out inside it for a whole day. They really, really need some better Air Conditioning though! Lol. I guess the 1920s was pre-global-warming or something. I've been here many times. I've taken a self-guided tour (which I wasn't supposed to), I've taken an actual tour (which was free, because I know someone who knows someone), and I've even done a photo shoot here (for my first CD). I used to live about 10 minutes walk from this place. It hasn't changed much in all the time since I first saw it. Very run down. And yet it's so haunting and perfect that I love it. This is one of the most instantly recognizable buildings in the beautiful and remarkable old skyline of Buffalo. It towers above the East Side with its broken windows, it's massive haunting dark open shaft (minds out of the gutter), and its glowing clock faces. There have been concerts here, as well as ghost tours, but it remains largely in disrepair. Everyone and their mother is hoping that it never gets demolished, and is eventually restored. The sad thing is that once upon a time it was a truly great place, bustling and full of passengers heading to the other Central Terminal... Grand Central in NYC. The pictures of this place full of well-to-do Upstate New Yorkers getting on and off trains is very depressing. America has changed so much and not always for the better. It's one of my favourite places in Buffalo, and was featured in the booklet of my first CD for good reason. Let's make sure it never gets knocked down. In other news, my cat Harley just pooped all over my carpet. Scuse me while I kiss this guy. I mean clean the poop. Same thing really.

I highly recommend the Buffalo Lighthouse - what a gem with some of the best views of the city too!…read moreOpen seasonally, you can choose to explore the grounds, which includes some historical signage, nautical artifacts, and a tiny house where you can watch two videos, one about the evolution of lighthouses, and another that shows the inside of the lighthouse. And, for an additional fee, you can go inside the lighthouse. Note, the first half of the climb is stairs and the second half is three ladders to get to the top. It was a really great way to spend part of our afternoon, and I'd love to go back again. Note: I recommend checking their fb page before you go because they posts their hours regularly.

We were greeted by the whole family (they have a young daughter) in the foyer upon arrival and were walked through how to use the electronic lock pad and all of the rooms available to us on the first floor - two seating areas, the dining room, and an antique souvenir/Buffalo maps room. There's a piano, many fireplaces, and a chess board, as well as a small fridge/freezer for anyone to use. Daniel let us know there were breakfast seating times from 6:30-8am so we let them know we wanted to sit for the 8am. Holly showed us to our room and brought a pitcher of water and glasses for us. The rooms were beautiful and perfectly sized. We had the Sparrow room, which may be the smallest but we had plenty of space. The furniture has so much character and Daniel explained that everything's been reupholstered so every piece was still in perfect shape. Our room had a fireplace, armoire, tv, and dresser with a beautifully redone bathroom connected. The bathrobes were incredible and the plumbing was much better than expected with an old house - did not wait long for hot water and the toilet worked extremely well. We explored downtown for dinner time and came back with a bottle of wine to play some chess before bed. Daniel graciously provided a corkscrew and wine glasses and told us about the history of the house before we went up to sleep. The bed was very comfortable and there was an air conditioning unit in the window that we could control. The next morning we went to the dining room for breakfast and it was DELICIOUS! More than I ever expected - a peach pastry with what tasted like homemade whip, a yogurt parfait with home grown and made fig jam, a cold pressed celery/pear/apple/ginger juice, and finally our choice of sweet (banana fosters French toast with bacon) or savory (herb cream cheese, lox, onion, and capers on everything bagel crisps with a poached egg) so we did one of each :) 4 courses with coffee and water while admiring the beautiful fig tree right outside the window... incredible. Holly and Daniel are doing an AMAZING job here and I cannot recommend this place enough. 17/10!!!!

It's a 2 hour walking tour, and you'll stop at various buildings to learn about the who, what, when's of what went down there. For example, you will stop at a building and hear about how organized crime controlled laborers local 210. You will see where certain made men were gunned down. Explore Buffalo is a nonprofit run by volunteers; be kind and leave a tip if you enjoyed your tour! I look forward to going on another tour with Explore Buffalo and learning more about our great city!

The different architectural trends, building materials, and political affiliations. I was especially impressed by the Five Sisters, French and Italian influences and Victorian style homes. We also walked through a park I'd never realized was a park. We even stopped at a Bed and Breakfast I had no idea about. Born and raised Buffalonian and I learned so much in this tour. So glad we did it. Highly recommend!

At the time of his review they only have one review so I feel compelled to write one for them. Cheap rental compare to the other location that came up in my search. Right next to Lake Erie and Outer Harbor trail so you will have a beautiful ride on your ride. Especially those that love a great IG or Snapchat photo opp this is the place for you.
