If you want to feel like you are in the show Mad Men, go here! It has a 70s decor vibe with all of the turquoise, gold, and fur to match! The bar stools are nice tall well constructed beefy leather chairs that are the perfect height to grab a cocktail or five (they do have beer too). There are some awesome velvet chairs along a table near the bar too that were comfy as well. I really wanted to hang out on the couch but someone was already comfy and cozy there! Instead of ordering a drink straight from the menu, the bartender asked me a bunch of questions to figure out what kind of cocktails i favor. He suggested a drink, I said okay without really knowing what he was talking about and it showed up in front of me. The cocktail was super tasty and definitely fit what I was looking for. Won't be going back here anytime soon. Too bad because it's a really cute place, but the staff are jerks. We met some friends for a 40th birthday drink and they basically kicked most of our friends out. Apparently, parties of more than 4 ppl are considered an "event". When we got the bill it had a $500 event fee on it. We were crammed in the back corner taking up minimal space. 1/2 of our friends left after about 10 mins bc of the treatment from the staff. I love Buffalo Traders so much. By far my favorite hidden gem bar in this city. It's a bit small and in kind of an unexpected area of town, but oh, is this lil spot full of all kinds of surprises. The drinks they serve are amazing for one. Very well-crafted delicious, and quite surprising. The put all the extra effort in with regard fo ingredients. The details of every aspect of this bar are so on-point. The vintage decor and furniture, the beautiful bathrooms, and of course, their music playlists are on fire. I find myself coming here (instead of going to my fav cafes) to do my journaling and reading. My favorite drink is their Aviation cocktail (its the first place ive ever had one). Rooted firmly in the mod 70's with a dash of 20's speakeasy, the super groovy, totally far out retro décor of Buffalo Traders is right up my alley. With striking, deeply saturated blue jewel tones in the wallpaper (yes! I said wallpaper! It's back baby!), the bar feels comfy and trendy all at once. Large paintings and some funky décor items, like Barbie's in glass atriums, 8-tracks tapes, and some sexy record covers, give personality to the bar and seating areas. Whoever reupholstered the leather pilot chair style bar stools knows how to get a patron to linger at the bar for another cocktail- super comfy and stylish! And don't get me started on the wall paper in the bathroom- LOVE IT! Not sure it's appropriate for your average bathroom at home but it fits right in with this bar. You'll have to go in for yourself to check it out. And the lighting features! I don't know if they were reclaimed from something else or created just for this place, but they are delightful to look at: They tie it all together! I could seriously go on and on about how much I love the décor of this spot- I will be back if nothing else for decorating ideas! As for the real star of the show: the cocktails. If you feel overwhelmed by the extensive menu, feel free to play 20 questions with the bartender. Their gig is to personalize drinks so with a quick Q&A session, they can create a drink that is uniquely you. They do have beer too, but no food. The bar peers into the next door cigar bar through a glass window. Sadly, you cannot come and go with a drink or cigar between the two spots, but having both next door to each other, might prove to be all you need for your date night, happy hour, or unwind after a long day. read more

The loungey cocktail bar that Grand Rapids needed! While the décor comes off as a little try-hard, I still appreciate the vibe in comparison to mostly tavern-esque ambiance GR has to offer. Very, very well made and well balanced cocktails. Delicious classic concoctions. Fairly priced. The bartenders could have been a little more attentive but they could have been having an off night. This area of Fulton Street has long been completely deserted of a good bar- now with the Buffalo Trader's Lounge opening and serving drinks Midtown residents have a new and fun place to go for an upscale drink. The interior is exciting and comforting. It almost feels like a 1960's mad men type bar. Fun wall paper and lots of gold/copper colored fixtures. The chairs were insanely comfortable. We could have lounged there all day. Upon arriving a bartender walked over and told us about the place and offered to take our orders. He explained that they didnt have a menu yet but went through a 20 questions like game with us to figure out what type of drinks we were in the mood for. Fizzy or flat? Gin or Vodka. Sour or Sweet. Etc. The drinks that came out were spot on perfect. I ended up with a gin champagne type cocktail with grapefruit bitters. It was exactly what sounded good that i didnt even know i wanted. My wife ended up getting a cocktail and a glass of wine. Overall awesome location, great decor & amazingly knowledgable staff. read more

This is based on my first stop to this place on an early afternoon. I was pleasantly surprised how many people already here on a Monday at 4:30 pm, so that's a good sign. There's an eclectic mix of seats at various tables as well as maybe 10-12 at the main bar. The cocktail menu is pretty extensive and I enjoyed my Mount Yummah mezcal-based drink and the bartender who came out to wait on me was friendly and knowledgeable. I'd come back here again but, as others have mentioned, do k ow this is ONLY for drinks as there is no food or snacks menu. They do carry a few beers for the non-cocktail afficionado in your group. read more

Everything from the decor to the drinks is spectacular! There is obvious thought that goes into each and every aspect of this establishment, with each detail complimenting your experience. The drink menu is stellar, with classics made to perfection and their own cocktail recipes with ingredients put together so well you won't believe it! However, you do not even need to crack the menu, simply tell your bartender what you're craving, what you like or what you don't, or if you've had a bad day and they will put the perfect drink in front of you. We especially enjoy the happy hour, but wish there were some kind of window coverings on the wall-sized front windows. When the sun is shining, it creates a horrible back-lighting effect that really hurts the eyes if you're not actually sitting by the (warm) windows. Occasionally there is a bit of dust on the smaller decor items, but if that is the worst thing about the place, they are doing just fine. Groovy from top to tail. Highly recommend! read more
