Been bringing my son here for the last two years for cuts. The girls that work here are so friendly to him. He loves coming here and asks me when he is getting my next haircut. His regular stylist is Jenna, who always does an amazing job and makes his hair look "cool" as he says. The line is always short and while I'm waiting there is a TV that always has sports on. The whole establishment is sports themed similar to a lady janes. There is a pool table in the lobby if that is your sort of thing. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a cut. read more

I'd recommend going here and sticking with a hairdresser you like. The rest are spotty at best. The image is from my most recent visit. The marks are what I believe to be intentional as my hairdresser continued to dig in three times in a row. No way she didnt see these as she was making them. There was zero indication she had an issue with me beforehand. The only words we echanged were what i wanted done with my hair. This is a new establishment just off Transit road across from Tops in a retail/residential space. I've seen this hair concept in rochester, and buffalo but it's new to East Amherst. It's a hair salon geared soley to males and boys, sorry ladies! Right after walking in, I saw a pool table to my right, and some leather seating chairs to my left. Fortunately, and unfortunately there was no wait, so I didn't get to chance to play pool or shot some darts. I was immediately greeted and prompted to sign in via a computer. The salon was nicely decorated with deep browns and reds throughout. The place just oozed Buffalo with 97 rock on in the background, and signed pictures of players from the famous Buffalo Bills Super Bowl era. I happen to come in on a Saturday and was in a rush for an event later that evening. The TV at each hair cutting station was super key, so I could catch some NCAA football! The hair dresser even let me change the channel to the better game, and angled my chair so I was right in front of the TV (such an American thing to say, I know)! They say it's a salon, and it definitely has an upscale feel to it, no doubtly to cater to the well-off East Amherst folks. I've always been looking for a regular hair dresser, but never seem to like one. I've figured out that Super Cuts just isn't for me, I'd rather pay a bit for a better cut. But at the same time, I didn't want to spend $25 for a haircut every month(sorry, just not worth it) So when the big sign out front proclaimed the $13 for a men's haircut, it was the match made in heaven! This was my first haircut @ buffalo trim. I wanted a different experience and was tired of going to the franchise store and don't get any different experience with my hair cut. In most of these stores I would end up having a dissatisfactory hair cut. Buffalo trim, I expected to have different experience but somewhat disappointed. The 4 star is for the ambience and satisdying haircut because it was done good..and why not 5 star then...usually the stylist gives their name and introduce to you and do ask about you. During my visit the stylist did not bother introducing herself and she just got straight to cutting and there was nothing to make me feel as a valuable customer . If not for that, I would definitely given 5 star. It could just that day that I had my experience. I am going to try Buffalo trim one more time if my experience does not change then will leave it the way it is else will update this review! The East Amherst location was going through some renovation or so at that time and their pool table was not set to play. the wait time for negligible, I did get a stylist quick. I did not know that I could ask for a specific stylist but dont' know what they were like. May be Buffalo trim should rate their stylist too..so we know what to expect. Buffalo Trim is located in the new-ish business development on N. French near Tops. I really like the style of that strip, it's very enticing to enter but unfortunately there aren't a ton of places worth checking out. Luckily, Buffalo Trim is one of them. I've never had one set place to get my hair cut, so as a result, I've had a chance to try many places in the Buffalo and WNY area. Chains, local shops, barbers, and yes, even a few salons. Buffalo Trim is the type of place that makes you feel quite unmanly to go to a standard salon. Not only for the difference in styling, atmosphere and stigma, but also for the price you pay at a salon vs Buffalo trim. I think I paid about 12-14 for just a cut with nothing extra, which is a pretty standard price to me. But lets visit that whole manly part again... So yes, like a few other hair places that have popped up recently, Sports Clips and Lady Jane's come to mind, Buffalo trim is 100% geared toward men. The place has a real whiskey lounge feel, without the whiskey or cigars. The billiard table is a nice touch, but of the three times I've been there I've never had to wait more than half a minute. Although, I have been there when a father and his two sons were all asking for the same stylist, in which case it was a nice distraction for them as they waited. There are also quite a few HDTVs usually showing a slew of sports news and highlights from ESPN. As you walk in, there is a large TV acting as a computer monitor facing you on the reception desk, waiting for you to sign in. It even allows you to select a specific stylist from the ones on staff at the moment with their picture, in case you don't remember your stylist's name (or if you just want to pick the cutest one). Needless to say, walk-ins are very welcome. As for the haircut you receive, I think this is hard to comment on because depending on your directions to a stylist versus your expectations when you walk in, I'm sure you could manage to be disappointed in your cut. I, however, have been very happy with my trim each time I've visited. The stylists ask good prompting questions to customize your cut, and even after just one visit, the stylist recalled the basic look I was going for from the previous trip. Finally, I know they offer a hot lather shave or something along those lines, which I can't yet comment on as I haven't asked for one yet. I have to drive about 25 minutes to get to Buffalo Trim, whereas a Lady Janes (to compare another "Men's Salon") is about 2 minutes from where I live. Why do I drive so much more just to get a haircut? Is it because I have incredibly complex hair and I need a specific stylist? Not even close. To me Buffalo Trim is just a much more pleasant experience than other places in the area. The whole ambiance just does it for me. It has that "Man Cave" stuff like the multiple TVs set to ESPN, the pool table, and the Buffalo Sports memorabilia on the wall, but it doesn't feel like it's just there to complete a fascade like at Lady Janes for example. It also feels a bit more rustic with exposed wood and rafters. The stylists are great too. I'll admit I have no idea what to ask for in a haircut. I basically say to the stylist "the canvas is yours" and they have no problem just getting to work. They stop throughout the cut to see if it's looking alright and take the time to be sure you're satisfied. I'm not saying that is unique to the stylists at Buffalo Trim but there are certainly some places where they just cut and cut and in the end you hope you like it. They have different tiered haircuts as well. You can get a regular cut for around $12 or $15 I think, but they also have packages that include shampoo, a neck massage and shave, eyebrow trimming, beard trimming, etc. I've had the deal that's been on Living Social a couple times which includes the shampoo and neck massage and shave. It's a nice touch, though if I have to criticize there is a difference between a neck rub and a neck massage and this would lean more towards the rub (but now I'm being nit-picky). Overall I'm a big fan of Buffalo Trim. If you're in the area then this should be your new place for a haircut. If you're within a 30 minute drive (which means pretty much anywhere in the Buffalo area) then keep an eye out for another Living Social or similar deal and give them a shot. Remember it's just hair, it grows back if you don't like it. read more

The decore feels welcoming and warm. I arrived around 3:30 and there was no wait. It takes about 10 seconds to check in on their computer system, during which you can select your preferred stylist or choose to wait for the next open chair. Their computer does hide the receptionist a little, an iPad/tablet system would be a nice upgrade. My stylist was Nicole. She was energetic, friendly, welcoming, and a good conversationalist, even before we got started. I got a basic cut for $14. She professionally mixed a combination of trimmers and scissors to satisfy my needs. She cut with speed that I am not accustomed to from the usual old time barbers I hunt down. It felt rushed at first but then I realized how comfortable she was with her skills and precision. I like an uncomplicated, product-free cut, and she nailed it. Thanks Nicole! The back of my neck was trimmed and not shaved. I'm not sure if the latter is an option. I do prefer having it shaved with a straight razor as it comes out feeling cleaner. Although that feeling only lasts for a day so I am not complaining. But I will enquire about this option on my next visit. I was really happy with my cut and the service. I would not accept any change back. Nicole deserved every penny. A lot of places can do my simple cut, few engage me and are so welcoming. I'll be back for sure! read more

Absolutely horrible experience at the French location today. My 10 year old son needed his hair cut. I walked in. No eye contact. I asked if she could trim the sides and cut an inch from the top. She took off way more then she should have. the sides had lines all around it. I payed, and walked outside in the light and noticed that the cut was worse. it was horrible looking and with my son crying out front I had to go back on and ask her to fix. She did fix it some what. My son loved his longer hair on top and she ruined it. Tears all the way to the car. The other barbers didn't even say a word. This ruined our Sunday! You'd think a fancy place in east Amherst would be a good place to get a cut. Apparently they don't care about anything but the money. A complete waste of time, money, and overall my sons hair is ruined. read more

I get better service here than anywhere I've ever been. After my regular barber stopped practicing I went to a ton of different places before I stumbled upon this gem. Now I will never go anywhere else. The girls engage you in conversation to avoid that awkward silent sit and trim, which is very important to my experience. I always get compliments after getting my hair cut here and can't wait to go back every two weeks! Not to mention all the awesome tv's and local Buffalo sports memorabilia! After leaving my long time hair cut place recently I was looking for a place that I could just walk in rather than making appointments. A friend suggested Buffalo Trim. I have to say I was a little hesitant at first because I thought it was one of these "Hooters" hair salons that get you in with hot women who don't know the first thing about cutting hair. I'm happy to say I was way off. After a quick check in using their computer system my name was called before I even sat down to wait. That already won me over seeing as that's one of the reasons I left my old salon (too many long waits). Each time I've gone back the haircut is perfect, the girls are very friendly and professional and you can't beat the price ($14 for the basic). They do offer a straight razor neck shave for an additional $4. I decided against it as I don't have a ton of neck hair. The clippers were more than adequate. Not only do they do a great job on my hair, we recently took my 15 month old son there for his first cut. Sarah did a great job at keeping him calm while she did the cut. read more

I wouldn't say $15 is a decent price for a 10 second long haircut, especially when you don't look much different than you did when you came in. But then again, I'm not a guy, and I have higher expectations when getting my own hair done. But still a bit pricey for the time taken. Most of the stylists over the times do know what they're doing for the most part. And sometimes the cuts come out better than the other times but we've had 50/50 luck between the 2 locations. But the interior is cool.. Sports themed. Definitely designed for a guy. The wait usually isn't very long at all and you can just walk in without an appointment. But if for some reason there is a small wait you can always hang out with your buddies and play some pool. read more

My son has very difficult hair to cut. I have been told this his whole life. He is also easily distracted and has always had a difficult time sitting still for a haircut. Well I now have the perfect place and stylist for him. When we got to Buffalo Trim Jen took him back and he immediately felt comfortable and relaxed. She was fantastic with him. She obviously enjoys what she does and it shows through on her attitude and personality. My sons hair was perfect. Perfect! He's never looked so good. Our youngest son is 6 and can be a pip about getting his haircut, but Tracey is so fast he doesn't have time to get antsy. It's always neat, straight and even. I used to go to Super Cuts to get my hair cut. That was before I decided to go full on with my beard. I used to just have a goatee, so I did all the trimming myself. With a beard, I am sure I could do it but I'd rather let someone else do it. I looked around online for options and settled on Buffalo Trim. I went to get my first one and was immediately taken back to get my hair cut. I was feeling a little brave and let the stylist choose how to do it and I am happy I did. She did a great job and that is now how I get it every time. I can't remember her name, Lauren I think. When I went back again, I got her once more and she remembered me. It was about 2 months between haircuts, so this was impressive. There is one stylist I try to avoid, again can't remember her name. It's not because she does a bad job cutting my hair, it is because she doesn't clean it up. What I mean is getting the stay hairs above and below the beard and making a clean line. I am sure this falls partly on me because I never asked her to, but the other two I had did it without me having to ask. So this has more to do with doing that little bit extra without being prompted to do it, than a bad hair cut. The first two times I went I didn't get the hot lather neck shave, but the last 3 I did. I have to say this is definitely a must do. It feels really nice. I would recommend anyone go there, unless of course you have to travel a long distance to get there. It is about a 20-25 minute drive for me. They do accept credit cards, but naturally prefer cash due to credit card fees. I pay $20 for just the haircut and beard trim and $24 for hair cut, beard trim and hot lather neck shave. read more

My three sons have recently had haircuts at Buffalo Trim. The first two had satisfactory results. My third son came in with a picture and specific directions from his previous (out of state) barber regarding the haircut he wanted. The Buffalo Trim stylist, Stephanie, appears to have completely disregarded the directions, or been incapable of carrying them out. The haircut he received was nothing like the picture or directions he gave her, and he was extremely unhappy with it. Needless to say, he will not be returning. read more

This place is more for the ambience and atmosphere. I went to the north French location. They never have the same stylists and there's a HUGE turnover.. clearly not a good thing. I've gone a few times and every time I go the people working are completely different. I sat in one of the last chairs and heard one of the stylists talking about clients walking in telling another stylist "tell them to go eff off" and "tell that faggott to go away" also "I hate these people why don't they go the eff away". Come to find out that stylist is the manager of the establishment!! Horrible if you ask me, now I see why the stylists are continuously changing. The haircut was decent but I can get the same kind of cut from a place that actually respects their customers and doesn't sit in the back talking horribly about them. You work at a hair salon, why would you be so mad when people are coming in for a haircut? I was appalled by that especially finding out she was the manager. I recall her name being Ashley? Anyways, if you want to be respected as a human being and maybe stay with a stylist you like instead of them constantly quitting or leaving I suggest going ANYWHERE else. You're in the service industry, respect your customers. It made me sick hearing her tell other stylists to "tell that person to effing eff off and die" when they walked in the door.
