The only thing I ever loved about this salon was Neil. He had been doing my hair for years, so imagine my surprise when I went to book an appointment and heard he had moved to Arizona! I was shocked and disappointed he didn't tell me himself that he was moving. Come to find out, Neil didn't move to Arizona. After he was (what I believe was) unfairly let go, he moved about 10 minutes south to a salon behind Kohls on Transit & Klein. Sadly, I later heard from another of his former clients they were told another (more slanderous) story about why Neil was not with the salon anymore. Another lie. If the salon owner did not value his employee, that's one thing. Just tell his clients you don't know where he went. To spread awful rumors and lies about him is unprofessional and truly awful. I'm happy to say I've found Neil again & no longer have to darken the door of a place I felt no connection to outside the one person who always greeted me warmly & always made sure I felt valued. read more

I had a gift certificate and used it for a massage. It was a great Swedish massage. My only complaint (and reason for 4 stars) is that I booked specifically for a deep tissue massage. I could have said something in the moment but I felt awkward and the woman still did a good job. The point of my comment is that if you book for a specific type of massage that is what you should get without having to say anything in the middle of the massage. This used to be my favorite salon years ago so I booked them for an updo and makeup for a wedding. Big mistake. The makeup job was so bad that I wiped it off during my hair appointment and the hair was basically $50 for hairspray and a curling iron that I could have done at home. It barely lasted the evening. Both beauticians seemed new and clueless. Total waste of time and money. This used to be the best salon in town and now it's four times the size with a fraction of the quality. This review is for the manicures only. I have been duly impressed by Nicole and her professional, skillful manner and incredibly long lasting gel manicures. I am very hard on my hands, but she manages to make them look really good. I've been going monthly and will continue. I've tried a lot of local nail salons and this is the only place I have been returning to. No worries at all about sterile instruments, hygiene or cleanliness. New buffer, file and wooden pusher thing every time. As for the atmosphere, it's a bit less relaxing than I would prefer. I think it's the noise level, and the music isn't very calming. The pedicure room (where my friend was) is especially cold seeming, all that tile and the sounds of well, you know, echoing. You pay and leave gratuity up front before leaving. I would not want to get my hair done here because of a lack of privacy, it's the kind of thing I would not want strangers seeing, it's really a personal thing. Hair dye, wet hair, all those foil things, are all best left under a veil of mystery. The ease of making an appointment is great: online, telephone, schedule next one up front while you're there...they text you reminders which I appreciate, even though it's in my calendar. You leave a card on file to pay which I don't mind doing, although I mostly pay in cash. Nicole does a great job on my not so wonderful nails. Whenever I am in town, my mom and I try to make appointments for massages at Capello Salons & Day Spa. We typically find ourselves at this location in East Amherst, primarily because of the amazing relaxation room in the spa area. The girls at the front desk are always so friendly and accommodating while we wait. The massages are more often than not incredible! I know I'm consistently relaxed because I always find myself falling asleep mid-way through the massage. I just can't help it... They do a great job! The shower area, relaxation room, and massage room are all clean. I really have no complaints. The amenities in the shower area are much appreciated. I know there are other spas in the region but we find ourselves going back to Capello time and time again. Made a reservation for a 90 minute massage ( totally looking forward to it) only to get to the location for my appointment for the receptionist to tell me they not only (1) don't have a reservation for me ( even after I showed her the email I received from them for Ashley confirming my appointment) but then proceeded to tell me the (2) they have no Ashley on staff ( yes I had the right location) and to top it of (3) tell me they had no massage therapists on staff that day. Prior to today I had been a customer at capellos for 10 years. Today I had the worst hair experience of my entire life. Please save your time and money. My hair was completely botched. I went to a different stylist than I normally do, I asked for simple highlights. This stylist made my hair black and white striped. To be honest I know how embarrassing putting this picture online is, but I'm doing this to help save someone else from going to Capellos!!! (The salon didn't charge me, they knew how horrible I looked) EDIT: I went back and had Amanda fix my hair. She was amazing. She worked with my extremely botched hair. Fixing the damage was no easy task. I wish that I could change this review and add more stars. When I went back I had an even worse experience. The owner of the salon, Joe was extremely rude to me. Joe tried to claim that my hair looked great and I was being a dramatic teenager (I am not even a teenager.) I cried getting yelled at by the owner. I asked him why my hair was cut uneven (one side longer than the other). He didn't apologize he just said I was dramatic. I appreciate Amanda for being so kind and caring during such a horrible time. I have gone to Capellos for years and I intend to for years to come. I've gotten my hair done countless times at this location. I think Neil gave me the most memorable experience. He's been in the job for probably 20+ years. You can tell that he truly cares about his clients. He's very skilled, sociable, and a great asset to the east Amherst location. I also get waxes done by Jenette. She always shapes my eyebrows beautifully. My skin can be sensitive in the winter so she'll even pluck my eyebrows if my skin is too dry to wax. One of my favorite things that keeps me coming back is their massages. I have tried a few different people but Monica is the best masseuse ever. I always get the 60 minute therapeutic massage from her. I refuse to see another masseuse ever again. She knows what she doing and she also cares about her clients. She's helped me find therapeutic oils that I was looking for, she's given me tips to help keep my shoulder muscles lose, and not once has she ever left me disappointed. This salon also does my weight year old daughter's hair. I've let them do not pink color on the underneath side of her hair and it turned our beautiful. They even used a spray to hold the color in longer. She's three months out from getting the color and it's still pink. I think another thing I love is that they work with organizations that will accept donated hair. I believe it has to be 8 inches in length to participate but I always wait until I hit that mark so I can donate my hair. They will then give you a few haircut for doing so. You still pay for the style and hair drying but who cares. I'd still pay for the cut knowing it could help someone else. It's just another nice perk. read more

I've gone for haircuts to Capello almost exclusively since moving to this area over 20 years ago. The Main Street location was fine, but after three of my stylists there retired or left, I switched to Transit. The higher ceilings improve the air quality immensely. I prefer not to breathe in hair dyes and other chemical odors, so this building suits me better. In addition, I found a wonderful stylist named Maha who reliably and pleasantly gets my haircut and style perfect every time. The price is what you would expect for a salon, and you have to remember to bring cash for the tip since it cannot be added to check/credit/debit bill, but I like to tip cash anyway. read more

I've been getting my haircut at Capello's for over ten years now. For the first five years, I went to the Capello's on Main Street in Williamsville and now I only frequent the Transit location where Jeryl is my stylist. I won't let anyone else cut my hair, she's the best! Let me just say, the girls at the front the desk always appear to be very busy and there are times when no one seems to care if I'm standing there waiting. There's only one girl that recognizes when she's working and she greets me upon entrance even when she is busy (which is nice), everyone else seems a bit snobby to me. I especially felt that way at the Main Street, Williamsville location which is part of the reason I stopped going there but I that's their loss. I don't come to Capello's to chat with their appointment setters though, I'm there because in my experience, their stylist have been some of the best that I have encountered. Moving on... I always ask for very specific styles, I come in prepared with pictures and Jeryl has been able to deliver them all to me. She always has suggestions for my hair type regarding style and color and I completely trust her with my hair. I don't just trust anyone with my hair as I'm Latina and my hair is naturally curly, I usually add a little serum, blow it out and wear it straight, I don't need chemicals in my hair and yet stylist find out my hair is curly and seem to panic thinking they need to compensate with products or cutting my hair incorrectly even though I give them instructions so you see, it's imperative that I have a stylist all my own that can do what I request and not be intimidated by my hair. Jeryl does a wonderful job with my hair and when I leave the salon and go home, my friends and family always tell me how beautiful it looks and I return back and tell Jeryl about it, she does a great job and she should be complimented! There was one visit that Jeryl was completely booked and I had to come in to see someone else, I was devastated and the appointment setter must've known, I imagine she told Jeryl because the second I saw Jeryl at the salon on my visit with another stylist, she came up to me, greeted me with a hug and kiss on the cheek and apologized for having such a busy schedule that she could not squeeze me in! She asked me what I was getting done and then spoke with the girl about to style my hair, advised her on my preferences and assured me I was in good hands. That right there is why I ignore the front desk and appreciate my stylist, because she treats me good, cares about taking care of me and goes above and beyond! She always asks me how my sons are doing, remembers our conversations and makes me feel like she's my best friend when she's cutting my hair. Customer service people, that's what it's all about... If you make a customer feel special you have a customer for life! If Jeryl left Capello's, I would follow her to another Salon! Providing excellent customer service should be understood and practiced by every business! This salon has expanded it's parking lot (which is nice, looks like new buildings may be constructed soon), the salon itself is very nice, clean and comfortable, way more spacious and open in comparison to the Main Street, Williamsville location. Always a good experience at Capello. After massages they have a separate men's and lady's locker room with a lavender shower and sauna, which is the perfect ending to a great treatment. Manicures and pedicures are extremely slow but they do a good job. Got a Brazilian wax there once and I don't think I would ever go back. It seemed to me that they didnt do it very often and it took forever. I have gotten dozens of brazilians before and this was by far the worst. The esthetician seemed very tense and only added to my already tense and uncomfortable situation. Expensive, but worth it for the massages, not sure if I would spend the money on a mani/pedi or wax again. read more

I have mixed reviews about this Capello's but I'm a fan based on 2 particular employees here... I used to get my haircut by Jeryl Brooks and she was fantastic!! She left here for a while and I moved cross-country, but I hear she's back, and now I'm back too, so I may have to visit her for a clip at some point. Jeryl is really up-to-date on the latest hairstyles and trends. Plus she listens and does what's best for your hair type. And she's a super sweet gal! I had another cut here by someone else once and it was only ok... This was before Jeryl returned. So, meh. Eyebrows- I've had them done here a few times (by the same girl) and mostly my experience had been positive until the last time I got waxed. The tech (someone I had never been to before) asked if I wanted a more defined arch. I said no, to just clean them up. She said a thinner brow would open my eyes up more so I told her to thin them a TEENY TINY bit... She went to town and I looked like I got the Donna Martin 90210 College Years eyebrow special! It took forever for my eyebrows to fill in and it was embarrassing. Plus they were already bushy like 1.5 weeks later but patchy. Pricing is okay- $45 average for a cut, and I think $17 for brows. Another new thing- they don't allow tips to be charged with your final bill. So if your haircut is $45 and you want to tip $10, you'd better have the cash with you because they won't let you add that to your bill like a tip at a restaurant. VERY annoying!!! Bottom line with this place: Stick to who you know does a good job and don't let anyone persuade you to do something that you are uncomfortable with/won't maintain!! read more

I took the day off to go get a pedicure with my mom. We typically run in to nail salons on a whim but decided to treat ourselves to a scheduled appointment at a spa. Well i have to say it was one of the worst. My mother had booked a double pedi well in advance and when the nail tech came out she seemed flustered when we told her that we had 2 side by side. Then after seated the techs did not seem to know what they were doing. They also did not talk or interact with us at all. I asked how long they had been working there and was shocked when they both had been there over 20 years! We complained to the front desk and all she said was she would tell the manager. I've been going to Capello's for a year and a half now and I must say, it is by far the only place I will go to! I agree with a previous post, a few girls from the front desk staff can be a bit more welcoming. This is not to say that all of them have bad customer service skills - there are only a few snobby girls. Either way, they have never messed up my reservation, which keeps me happy. Ive tried a handful of stylists, but my FAVORITE one is Rose! I have very curly hair - something several stylists seem to be scared of handling. In the past, I have walked out dissapointed in paying top dollar for a blow out or color that didnt seem as if there was any effort put into it. Rose has never messed up my hair cut and has even suggested great hair colors for me. She is the only one that knows how to blow out my hair along with pairing the right color. My friend who worked here recommended this place to me so many times and claimed they had the best hair colors/dyes. I wanted to go platinum(from blonde) so I was sure this would be no problem and I would get exactly what I paid for. Don't waste your money!!!!!!! I walked out 3 and a half hours later and $300 in the hole with nothing I asked for!!!! The only thing that changed was the color of my darker roots. My hair remained the same exact color. And I asked for layers and she only used thinning shears like wth. As a long customer of Capello Salon (10+ years), I have become increasingly disappointed with my experience at this establishment. In recent history, appointments have been cancelled at the last-minute without notice. Furthermore, I received a confirmation message regarding an appointment that had been changed without my approval. The receptionist simply changed my provider without asking first if I would be willing to switch. When I requested a phone call from the owner, the reception manager (I'm guessing) sent me a rude and extremely unprofessional explanation about why the appointment had been changed. For a salon that charges top dollar in the area, one would expect better customer service from the people in charge of scheduling. I've been getting gel manicures for about 5 years now. I periodically take a week off from them to give my nails a break. This time it was to let my hand heal from a bad burn. So I arrived at 625p for my appointment. Ann strolled by casually at 640p, talked to another customer, then asked if I was her next client. No hand shake, no introduction. Nothing. I asked her if she was Ann. She said yes. She lead me to the nail area of the salon, showed me the polish choices. She started on my cuticles. After yanking on one until it bled, she barely cleansed it, and went on with polishing. She made mention of how dry my cuticles were. I said I work at a Dr's office. THAT was the extent of our conversation. When she was done, there was no lotion applied (especially if I have "dry cuticles", and no hand massage. If I'm paying $35 for a manicure, I expect a manicure. Especially in such a nice salon setting. I normally use this time to relax, but it was anything but. I was out of there at 705p. That should speak to the quality of the manicure. I received. I won't be returning, and I've shared my poor experience with friends and family. The sad thing is, I've purchased many gift certificates for these family and friends. I was also considering switching to this salon for my hair and highlights. That won't be happening. I just started going to Capello III a while ago and every time I have left I have been thrilled with my results! I consider myself to be a super picky client and they have made me extremely satisfied with the quality of care and attention to detail they put in from the cut, color and style. I naturally have very dark brown hair and have been dying my hair a butter blonde for the last four years and it is very hard to find a hairstylist that can make such a drastic transition in color without making the hair fall out or break. My hair is thick and passed my bra strap and you'd never know by looking at it that it is colored because its so healthy and bouncy. I'd recommend the stylist Matt there to anyone who is looking for a fun look and still wishing to maintain the strength and integrity of their hair, he is by far the best in the industry! read more

You are not allowed to add a tip to a credit card. Of course, you are only told of this while you are paying. So, if you don't have the cash on you, you can conveniently use the ATM in their salon which charges a fee. For a place that's supposed to be an "upscale" salon, this is really a bush league policy. I was very disappointed! I had my bridal party go in to get their hair done on one of the most important days of my life and walked out unsatisfied. I actually had to change my appointment last minute and the receptionist was very nice and courteous about it. The parking lot is on the small side, there was only one empty spot and it did not look super busy inside. The decor is open, well lite and inviting. Matt cut my hair, he was friendly and I was very happy with the result. It was quite fast, only half an hour. I'm used to hair cuts taking longer so I guess he was very efficient. My manicure was done by Kelly. They have a separate Mani and pedi area off in the back. There's a wide selection of OPI polishes, not as many Essie. The manicure was nothing exceptional and expensive compared to $7 manicures I've gotten in chinatown. My total came to $67 before tip. You leave tips in cash in little envelopes at the receptionist desk. You write down your name and the name of the person who helped you. Overall I would consider going back for a haircut or trying some of their other services. read more
