The place is pretty nice a very well done space for hanging out with friend and nice TVs. The big skylight is also a nice touch. I came in sat evening before going out. The people were very nice and cheerful. However they were not as impressive with service speed. Food was ok. I came in because I saw the sign for wings... needless to say besides the low price I was let down. This is not to say I won't be back, but their bold advertising strategy was def. misleading. As another reviewer mentioned, the wings have wayyy to much sauce. It was hard to find the last couple in the pool at the bottom of my pan. The fries were also stale and cold to boot. Overall the place works well as a friendly campus dine in/out with free wireless too. However it's a bit short on quality. I will be back, but this time no more wings or fries. Good wings but on multiple occasions I have had to wait for almost an hour for my food. When I brought up my concern with how long it was taking they blatantly lied to my face telling me orders were in front of mine, the person who ordered at the same time as me had already received their food and finished it by that time. I should preface this by saying that I used to work at BuffaLouie's back in the day, when it was still owned by Mr. Louie and based out on 17th St. So, we're looking at 18 years ago now! Ugh. I was the prep cook, and I made all the sauces and dressings, and hand grated probably 30 pounds of provolone every day because that's how Mr. Louie wanted it done. I've been here several times in the 12 years since I moved back to Bloomington, and as a townie, I'd go more if there were parking. I am always very watchful for changes, and I can say that except for a few menu changes, I haven't noticed a difference. The large salad is still a great value, enough for several meals. The wings are still good. The sweet bbq tastes exactly like I remember, too. I haven't tried the new things on the menu, many of the newer sauces don't appeal to me. I like this store much better, the old one smelled damp and the dining area was dated. Good call on the move, guys! It's always nice to eat somewhere that is just the same as you remember, but to have a new location that enhances the experience. Good job new guys, I think Mr. Louie would be very pleased. One of my favorite things from working with him was the day a customer was being very belligerent and threatening to take their business elsewhere. After the guy left, Mr. Louie told me that was fine with him because he didn't want customers like that anyway. The customer is always right, except when they are very wrong and unpleasant. This was really hard, because I have been an avid supporter of Buffa Louie's for a very very long time. We used to have one back in northwest Indiana, but now the only one left that I can go to is here at IU while I'm going to school. Anyways, the wings here are top-notch. The best I've ever had in my life, I'd say. The wings are perfectly cooked every time and always taste fresh, like they've never been frozen for shipment or storing. The outer skin is always crispy and crackles when you bite into the wing, but the meat inside is tender and juicy always. I love the Hot BBQ and the Medium sauces, but if you like something more mild or hotter, they have a wide range of sauce. Now, the reason I gave three stars instead of four or five was that (just tonight) I ordered delivery from them and tried the Buffalo Chicken Salad with the Fat Free Ranch and a side of curly fries. I've ordered delivery from Louie's before, and never had a problem with soggy or yucky food. The delivery tonight was speedy, arriving in less than 30 minutes on a Thursday night, which is a pretty busy night for this campus where they are located in the heart of the downtown bar scene. I was excited to have this salad, as I've ordered it before and was wowed with the size and flavor of the chicken and fries. Tonight I was not impressed. The salad was just romaine lettuce, chopped into strips and washed. I could have done this at home. There was no spinach, iceberg or other lettuce to give the salad more oomph. Then, I looked at the chicken and thought I had the wrong food. I asked for the breaded chicken strips, coated with the buffalo sauce. What I got resembled pulled pork (although it was chicken, thankfully). It was overseasoned with black pepper and did not have the appearance or taste of being cooked in or coated with buffalo sauce. The meat was dry and looked dark brown like it had been smoked. The flavor was very weird, almost like a peppercorn seasoning with a little bit of smoky barbecue flavor. The dressing was gross and jiggly like overly processed dressings seem to always be. Maybe they've changed vendors? But I remember their ranch being the best ranch I've ever had at a wings joint. And tonight I was disappointed. Maybe they were having an off night, but I'd say skip the salad or sandwiches and just get wings if you want a great meal at Buffa Louie's. read more

They literally pour their wing sauce over the salad (must've been about a cup's worth) and a similar amount on their chicken sandwich - the result? I cannot rave enough about the SALADS at Buffa Louie's! Their salads are overflowing with fresh ingredients and great flavor! I love the ranch dressing too. I realized the high quality of this restaurant maybe the second time I visited and was contemplating ordering the Cobb Salad, but I'm not a bleu cheese fan. The cashier was quick to say "well, let's sub that out for something you like better! Provolone perhaps?" BaM! Nailed it. That has been my order ever since. Never been so disappointed in recent memory. Ordered mild wings which more rightly should have been labeled "naked. The garlic parm weren't too bad except there wasn't any parm flavor, just drenched in a garlic "butter " sauce. The biggest problem was none of the order of 50 wings was properly done. No blood or raw but not crispy. The skin was that rubbery chewy texture. The whole batch could have used another 2-3 minutes in the fryer. read more

Best wings in town but way too expensive. In 2008, the Tuesday wing special was 50 cents a wing. It's 2016 and the wings shot up to 69 cents. I have never been to any wing joint other than Buffa Louie's that actually charges for celery and blu cheese. If you aren't ordering on cheap wing day, expect to pay around a dollar a wing if you include celery and blu cheese. I want to give it three stars for the price but five stars for the taste so I give them four stars. read more

Buffa Louie's offers a delicious selection of wings and the perfect atmosphere to enjoy any sporting event. It is located at the edge of campus and is easily accessible for both college students and Bloomington residents. The walls are lined with sports memorabilia and big screen televisions, with signatures of the likes of John Mellencamp sprinkled in as well. Each day of the week offers a different special that one can take advantage of. I went on a Tuesday and as such I was able to get wings at 55 cents per instead of the normal price of nearly a dollar per wing. I ordered five medium buffalo and five garlic parmesan wings. At Buffa Louie's, you have to order at the registers and the food is brought out to you. There is relatively little service at all, which for a typical college student is perfect for avoiding tip giving. Within five minutes my meal was made and brought out for me to devour. The sauces were very watery, but filled with flavor and a little kick of spiciness. I enjoyed how the sauces were not overpowering but still savory. The wings are not lacking in size either, unlike many other wing establishments. Other than the variety of wings available, classic bar foods like curly fries and cheeseburgers are also accessible. While this restaurant has exceptional wings, they come at a price. On most nights the wings are nearly a dollar each, which is more expensive than other comparable restaurants. On game nights, Buffa Louie's is incredibly noisy and crowded, but on a normal day the restaurant is relatively empty and offers a quiet atmosphere to bring friends and watch sports while eating delicious wings. read more

Bloomington would not be bloomington without Buffa Louie's! When we were kids we visited the 17th street location but hung out at the Gables. How appropriate that Buffa Louie's is now located at the Gables. It 's the heart and soul of bloomington for wings and cheese fries! I'm so happy the new owners kept the sauce the same. Not to mention the wings are bigger now...Good looking out! BW3's doesn't hold a candle to Buffa Louie's! Not to mention the atmosphere.....Louie's has that home feel to it. Returned the wrong order and asked for a change but a minute later, but into the wings and it was just the same buffalo sauce wings except with the BBQ sauce poured over it. Wings were cold too. Boneless wings can be excessively breaded/fried sometimes but the original wings are substantially better than Buffalo Wild Wings. Wings, no. Burgers, YES. Had their wings a couple times and never really enjoyed them as many of the spicy flavors and regular are quite malty/vinegary. Had their burgers quite often, my favorite being the All American. The Lou burger is also great but I wouldn't suggest it for take out as the bread gets really soggy with all of the sauce. Still a great burger though. Amazing buns and portions are good for the price. One of the best burgers in Bloomington. Also, loaded fries are always flavorful and sweet. Food is always consistent and their staff is always friendly. read more
