This is a beloved college-town wing spot, and dining in, I have zero complaints--the wings are great, and the vibe is exactly what you want in a local favorite. Unfortunately, the takeout doesn't hold up to the same standard. The wings I've gotten to-go have been sauceless, soggy, and honestly no better than a Buffalo Wild Wings or Wingstop, which feels overpriced for the quality. The curly fries also lacked any seasoning, making the whole meal feel more like a kids' meal than the bold, flavorful experience you get when dining in. Hoping they can bring their takeout quality up to match what they do so well in-house.

A Bloomington staple! This restaurant bleeds Bloomington and IU in the their decor making it a perfect place to bring visitors and students alike. Came in right before a football game, so I obviously knew they would be busy. We waited about 15 minutes after we ordered for our food to come out, not too bad considering how busy they were. (You do order at the counter here) I'm a boneless wing girl, I know come at me. But they are delicious here. I got the sweet BBQ sauce and honey garlic. Both are a very sticky sauce, but good. The tots are great as well! Will be back when I'm back home in Bloomington!

Do yourself a favor and go. Great food, great service, great environment! If you're looking to catch a game, this is a great way to do it while eating some delicious food. They have TVs everywhere,They have great music playing. Just an overall great place!

We decided to give this place a try over the weekend. It was busy and lively. Their menu was not overly complicated. We ordered boneless chicken wings with the Korean q sauce and it was ok. I think it would have been better with just regular buffalo sauce; the Korean q sauce was a bit sweet which I'm not necessarily a fan of. I can see why this place would be popular among young college types as it's very casual with reasonably priced food.

During my time in Bloomington, I kept hearing rave reviews about Buffa Lou's, and it was consistently recommended as a must-try spot. On my final night in Bloomington, I decided to see what all the hype was about, and I wasn't disappointed. It was a Thursday evening when I visited with my sister, and the place was buzzing with energy. Buffa Lou's had a typical bar atmosphere, but what stood out was the abundance of memorabilia decorating the walls and the variety of T-shirts and hats available for purchase. The two levels of seating created a spacious yet lively environment, heightened by the fact that it was trivia night - a fitting scene for a college town. The menu was extensive, offering a plethora of options, and if you were in the mood for dessert, they even had ice cream. My sister and I decided to dive into the wings, opting for 20 with a mix of three flavors (although I can't recall which ones) and adding curly fries to the order. The wings were good ordering 20 might have been a bit much; the sauce was so flavorful that it stood out on its own. The fries were a solid complement to the meal. Surprisingly, I didn't find the need for the ranch or blue cheese - the wings were delicious as is. If you're in the area and have a taste for amazing wings, Buffa Lou's is a definite recommendation. Plus, if you enjoy trivia, it's an added bonus to make your visit even more enjoyable. Oh the servers were very friendly !!!

Checked out this staple spot today for lunch! It's directly across the street from IU Bryan Hall. There's some seating outside and then tons of seating inside. Air conditioning inside felt great and they have all kinds of IU memorabilia on the walls which was cool to check out. You order at the counter and then they'll bring the food to your table. Service was very friendly and quick, our wings came out super fast....burgers and fries took a little longer but still super fast. Prices are super reasonable. Great for groups! Def recommend!!

I had never been to the place. The service is very kind and engaging. Wings were cooked great. I didn't love the TNT sauce flavor and the heat level isn't really that explosive but they were good. I also had a salad that was large with lots of cheese and tasty croutons. The nostalgic items in the dining area makes it a cool vibe. I will try some different sauces on my next visit.

This was our daughter's choice for a quick bite we loved the building and decor . Great sauce choices and drinks! All around we enjoyed everything and can't wait to come back next time in town

Wings were good! I always get the hot. Self serve drinks but it's nice not having to wait for a refill.

Buffa Louie's is a great wing spot. You can tell there's a lot of history in the place based on the memorabilia decorating the walls. The prices are GREAT for wings! Easy to get a bunch of things and share with a large group. We just had some boneless wings and curly fries - keeping it simple. The fries weren't really hot - but they tasted good! It's possible that's because we came at an odd time of afternoon. The wings are good! Big size for boneless, and lots of sauce. I'm sure their bone-in are even better! Overall highly recommend.

I was very excited to try out the original Buffa Louie's before they open their Carmel location. I had heard a lot of really great things about their food. I decided to go with the classic bone-in buffalo wings as a litmus test. The wings were pretty decent, but sort of small. Other members of my group went different routes like spicy BBQ wings or boneless wings and thoroughly enjoyed their choices. I did enjoy the look and feel of the restaurant and the ordering process was simple at the counter. I will definitely be giving them another change when they come to Carmel, but will be trying something different next time.

Visited Buffa Louie's when I went to Bloomington for the first time. I heard good things and I love boneless wings so I was excited. My first impression was it was pretty small. There were lots of TVs and games on so the vibe was more stay a while and watch the games. However, I do not feel like they had the room for this. You order at the counter then they call your name when the food is ready. I feel like this went well but I do like a traditional restaurant better than this. Still took a while to get the food, which was fine because there were a lot of people there. I did not really love the fried pickles. The first couple were good but then you could tell they had an off taste. I think it was the oil. Wings were delicious but nothing super special. I would go back here again when I'm craving wings. I would probably try their mozzarella sticks or tater tots next.

Ask the Community - BuffaLouie's

Do they still offer Fire and Ice Challenge as of today?

No. They no longer carry the ice cream. You can bring in a pint if you really want to do it (my husband did). The challenge wings have extra ghost pepper on them, so order them that way. Good luck!

The burger was delicious and juicy. Sorry, I devoured it too quick to get a picture. We had a great time playing uno while waiting for our food, although it didn't take long to get our food. Our waiter was nice and the restaurant is clean. I do recommend bringing a sweat shirt. It was freezing in there. Also, prices are reasonable. Receipt as pictured.

Wow. What happened? This place I swore by not so long ago has taken a serious nosedive…read more Lunch with the kid again. Fun, right? Nope. They were a bit busy but it didn't seem like a huge crowd today. We sat outside again. I knew what I wanted immediately, and placed our order as soon as our waitress came over to greet us. A cheeseburger for the kid, and a pulled pork sandwich for me. I've never had theirs before. And I never will again. And fries. We got fries. The wait was insane. At least a half hour for very simple dishes. The kid got a tiny burger. Beef and bun. No cheese, no ketchup. I had to ask for cheese. Yes. They messed up a cheese burger. Then there was my pulled pork. It was literally inedible. I've since come to learn that it was not reheated properly, so the goo that covered every bit of meat was fat. It was served cold, for some reason, and the way it was presented on the menu, listed under a picture of some yummy browned wings led me to believe it would be a very different - and HOT- sandwich. The server did offer to take it back, but at that point the meal was ruined for me and I didn't trust them to make anything else, or make it quickly. I made it clear I was very unhappy about such a disgusting sandwich. She took all of 10% off my bill. Better than nothing, but a lot less than I was expecting. if this is how they're doing things now, I'm done with this place. Badly overseasoned fries... cold pulled pork... cheeseburger with no cheese... I mean, come on... and based on what little I caught from people at another table, getting food out seemed to be an issue for them. I'm not sure if any other places nearby that aren't just bars serve decent food, but if they do, you can definitely give this place a hard pass. Yuck.

This place is really pretty inside and inviting yet I've eaten here once before and it was awesome…read morebut this time it wasn't. Matter of fact I'm not sure if I want to go back. We were sat in an almost empty restaurant but that was most likely because of time of day (around 2). Our waitress though took awhile to come greet us. She took our orders and to start off on a wrong foot our 2 cocktails and WATERS took over 10 minutes to come out. I know this because I had a text I had sent and being aggravated I went back and looked at the time when I sent it . Later on our appetizers came out. It was about 20ish minutes after our order went in. Then our food came about 5 minutes after that giving us little room left on the table. I know it was an almost 45 minute wait to get everything. I ordered the blackened chicken which was amazing my first visit a couple months previously but this time it was dry and definitely blackened .... AKA burnt! The manager was checking on the other tables she had with an additional waitress running around so I assume our waitress wasn't the only one taking care of them (4 as seen in picture actually) and when he popped by to ask how everything was he took my plate to remake it. 15ish MORE minutes go by and I asked the waitress if she could check on my food and she said 'well chicken takes a while to cook'. In disbelief I jokingly said I can make it faster at home so please just get mine to-go since my parents were already done and had been done for awhile. We got to-go boxes for their leftovers and my food came out shortly after . We received $ 40 off without asking so I appreciated getting something for 1 1/2 hours waiting in a nearly empty restaurant and no meal. I went home and when I went to heat up my food AGAIN the chicken was charred and extremely dry. I ate the sweet corn farrotto which was atleast good and trashed the chicken. Since it was now dinner time I made my own meal With the time and overall poorly done meal(s?) I had I think I'll avoid it happening again by just going elsewhere. It's a shame because we went here with a party of 8 previously and they did so good. We were honestly thinking this would be our spot for special occasions after that but it's likely not worth it since the manager and chef left us hanging and yet again served something subpar. I'd of hoped they make absolutely sure my simple chicken dish was correct the second time around I didn't take a pictures of food we got unfortunately. Our appetizers looked and tasted good but they were eaten quickly because we were starving by the time they came out around 3 so no time for those pictures either. I was then too busy sending my food back and eating appetizers. Once my chicken came out togo we all just wanted out of there! Then once I got home I was too aggravated and gave up any reason to go get my phone I suppose. Why bother? They didn't bother to make it right after all except to give us some $ off but I still wasted my time that day and again when I got home making my own food . The manager will definitely remember this disaster though

For drinks, cocktails (and a few mocktails) and a smaller selection of wine are also available. I wanted to get beer but I was kind of tempted by the cocktails. My first choice was a flight that included a mix of The Tap beers and guest beers, but the waiter came back after taking the order and told me that they could only do flights with their beers but could let me sample the beers I wanted to try, so I did that, and the samples were probably around 2 oz each so I basically got half a flight. After that, I ended up ordering a real flight of their beer. The Tap beers I tried were: Kill the Lights stout (regular and barrel-aged), Tapenator dark lager, Frost Bite winter ale, Nefarious Nectar blonde. Guest beers: Jacob Leinenkugel white mocha stout, Weihanstephaner Hefeweissbier, BrewDog Winter Staycation. Not going to waste space reviewing all of these, but they were all fantastic. I was really grateful that they let me sample so many! And they also have food. The menu isn't huge but does have some variety, and it's not just basic pub food. I had the ahi tuna crunch bowl and it was pretty good! It kind of had the vibe of stuff thrown together in a poke bowl, but it worked and I thought the fish was done really well. Our waiter was wonderful! He was really friendly and just the right amount of attentive. My friend and I stayed for a while talking after we had paid and he didn't rush us out at all. Granted, it was a pretty quiet night. We both really liked the vibe of the place. I would love to be back soon!
