When they first opened the food and service was great but the last 2 times iv'e been there the food was just ok and we had a server say are you going to tip me and ask to keep my change. On my most recent trip there I had to ask for a refill after 20 minutes and when I got to the register to pay the guy working there was holding my money saying do you need change instead of handing it directly back to me implying he wanted a tip I guess. read more

Went there about 3 years ago and said we would never go back to that place again. Hardly any food on the buffet air condition set at I believe 90 degrees because it was hot as hell in there. The variety is amazing, if you can't find something you like, you didn't look hard enough. After reading the other reviews I was surprised the seafood assortment wasn't mentioned. Beside sushi, which is ice cold & made right in front of you. Raw Oysters, Mussels ( cold & hot ), Shrimp ( boiled, hot in garlic sauce & fried ). Crawfish and my favorite New England steamed clams, small like a cherry stone clam. The service was excellent. Friendly server, never had to ask for drink refills . When I would come back to the table, it was cleared of all used dishes. It's similar to Ling's in Lakeland. Remember they have $2.00 coupons in the weekly coupon booklets. Food is good, but there is one waitress there that is EXTREMELY rude. Every time we get her she's rude!!! And if she thinks you didn't leave her a tip OR leave her a BIG enough tip, she chatters at you in angry Chinese, gives you ugly looks, and will mistreat you every time! Typical Chinese buffet. Good price for lunch buffet. However, dinner is a little overpriced because they serve crab legs. You pay for the crab legs, even if you don't eat them. I think they should have separate prices for those wanting the seafood buffet, and those that do not. On your normal trek through winter haven or stopping for a bite to eat after romping through Legoland, you will find many a chain restaurant such as Applebee's, chilis, multiple fast food chains, etc. However, the choice for Chinese food with variety is slim. Step in Buffet City. Although it's not your typical five star restaurant buffet (because we know all high end restaurants always make gigantic all you can eat portions) it suits the taste buds of a weary traveler looking to get some decent nosh for not a bad price. They have the normal Chinese American variety of chicken and broccoli, honey chicken, beef with broccoli, a nice seafood selection (mussels, oysters, crab legs), as well as American favorites (mac n cheese, pizza, roast beef, ham, buttered cabbage), salad bar, dessert bar, and sushi bar. The sushi is actually pretty fresh and the usually have salmon and crab meat as their fish choices. I get the veggie friendly rolls which are awesome. They also have a nice little hibachi fresh made stir fry section where you can pick your own mix and sauce. The only reason it's three stars is that it's sometimes a little dirty, especially the bathroom, waiting for hibachi is longer than normal because the poor guy doing it is also doing about five other jobs, and sometimes the service is lack luster. Normally they're pretty good, but a lot of times drinks go unfilled, plates pile up, etc. It's really one of those things where it depends on the time you go. My family and I wanted Fried sushi so we asked the man if he could do it. He told us "yeah in 10 minutes". The 10 minutes were up and we got our fried sushi, it was really good! When went on a really busy Sunday. I didn't enjoy our waiter so much. She was rushing us! I wasn't able to eat in peace and kept asking if we were done. This place is awesome! It's been recently expanded and updated and the interior is now as fantastic as the food. Clean and fresh. The entries on the buffet range from Asian to American so there is plenty for everyone. There's even a Sushi, salad and dessert bar. Really a great bargain for the money (buffet was $10 with drink). We went to the Buffet City in Winter Haven, Fl. Everyone in my family wanted to eat there as we always used to go there and liked the food. One of my sons decided that he wanted Subway sandwich for dinner instead that night. So he got his food and we all went to Buffet City for dinner. The lady who sat us said that there is a sign that says no outside food inside. I said but the rest of us are going to eat here and my son always eats here too but tonight he wanted to have Subway. She said that he needs to take his food outside. I asked, so you won't allow him here in the restaurant? She said, he can be here but not his food. I asked, so you mean that he needs to seat here and watch us eat? She said, no he can eat. I said but you said that he can't have his food inside the restaurant. She said yes, I can show you the sign that says no outside food inside. I said you don't have to show it to me, I take your word for it, but you said that he can eat here but he needs to leave his food outside, so you mean that he has to eat the buffet or you won't serve us? She said he doesn't have to eat at the buffet. I said right because he has food but you said he needs to take it out. So you mean that he has to eat outside of restaurant while we are eating inside? She said I can show you the sign. I said you don't have to show me the sign. As I mentioned I believe you. So you aren't going to serve us? She said we will serve you. I said but you asking my kid not to eat his sandwich. She Said, He can eat his sandwich. I said but you won't allow him to eat it here. What do you propose we should do? She again mentioned the sign and that no outside food inside. I asked for the manager and she said he is not here (on a Friday evening). I went to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager as I was not getting any starlight answer. They called the manager and when I explained to him the issue, he said that he doesn't know. The server by then came to us a stated that he (the manager) doesn't speak English. We then left and went to King Buffet. They didn't have any issue with that. Good food, Way more choices of seafood and more courteous people. Never has such a bad experience from a restaurant before. We will not going back to Buffet City again. read more

I was all ready to give this restaurant 4 or 5 stars. The food was really good! Not everything was great, but it's a big buffet with a lot to choose from. My husband is Asian and he liked most that he had. Not only did they have an impressive number of soups, but they were all good also. We're locals, so we were happy to find this place. And then the yelling started. The sushi chef, situated in the middle of the restaurant, started screaming at the people at the table next to us because their daughter only ate the nori from her sushi. This hissy fit went on for a very long time, the patrons never responded, but you could see their embarrassment. My daughter started worrying about the food her young son didn't eat and covered it up with a napkin, afraid she was going to be yelled at. The wait staff was wonderful and very apologetic.
