I had never been to this restaurant and thought the variety of food would be great for a group gatherings, so I stopped by to check things out. I didn't even make it inside. I was so disgusted by the staff smoking, hacking, and throwing their cigarette butts on the ground that I was completely turned off. I thought what would the cleanliness of the dining room and kitchen be like... I phoned and spoke to the manager regarding my concerns, but she chose to do nothing about it - it is still going on and the cigarette butts have never been cleaned up or an ashtray provided. Me and my son and a friend went for dinner yesterday May 11, 2026, I was excited to try the buffet because I heard good things about it. I was extremely disappointed, the food was hard, and cold. The only thing that was edible was the mashed potatoes and gravy, and adobo pork. All the vegetables were very cold, and the chicken balls were hard like a hockey puck, the Chinese noodles were crunchy because they sat out too long. there was butter chicken but only I saw was fried rice until after I saw a rice cooker that had white rice in it. It wasn't labelled, and I was just being snoopy, and that's how I found out. I deeply regret spending that kinda money on a meal I was so unsatisfied with. Very disappointing. It has been a long time since I have eaten at a Buffet Royale and it will be a long time, probably never, that I eat here again. Stopped in for the lunch buffet at approx 11:45 am. The wonton soup was okay, not great, but okay. A lot of the food items were crusty, like they had been sitting there for hours. A lot of the food items were cold or barely warm. Crispy chicken was moist and not crispy, meatballs were good but cold. Rice noodles were hard and flavourrless, etc. Not everything here was bad, but nothing worth going back for seconds. Definately not worth $26.99, not even worth $9.99 in my opinion. We went to the restaurant at 2:45 pm and had one of the worst buffets we have had in a long time. The food was not fresh or tasty. And not worth the $25 each. We were celebrating my wife's 65th birthday and even brought in a cake and candles. There were 4 adults and 3 kids. We had to flag someone down to get a drink and not once did our server come by to see how things were or if we needed anything. But he had time to chat and fool around with the other staff. I had to go to him to have him bring out the cake. He brought it out without lighting the candles or taking it out of the container. I could have just left it in the car. We spent a lot of money but got little service, until it was time to pay our bill. I always tip and was so tempted to leave ZERO tip this time. Instead I did leave 18% ($40). Cold, not fresh, and poor selection considering the advertising of different items. No where does it say if you have a birthday coupon that you can't get the seniors discount. It wasn't too many years ago when their dinner price was $16.99 and the selection was awesome and food was great. Now price has doubled ($35.99) and food quality has gone downhill. I understand inflation but for $35.99 I got: Cabbage rolls that were just cabbage (no filling). Runny mac and cheese. A carvery selection of garlic sausage or tough overdone beef (nothing more). Decent mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, and Italian meatballs. A broken ice cream dispenser. Once she brought me my glass of water, I never heard from the server again. There were about six customers in the whole place and this was at 5:30 PM so she wasn't exactly being run off her feet. After I had paid I wondered if there might be a seniors discount so I asked the manager and to my surprise was told yes. When asked why she did not inform me of this prior to ringing in the sale the manager replied it was company policy to not ask first but to put the onus on the customer to ask for it first. In other words if you don't ask you don't get it. By the way the senior discount is a whopping $2.00 or 5%. read more

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised, my boyfriend and I were greeted kindly and our drink orders came promptly and then off we went to check out the buffet, and it had such a nice variation. I loved the hot and sour soup, honestly one of the best I have tasted, then after that I enjoyed the pot roast and salmon and shrimp, the zucchini and mushrooms, everything I had was delicious, my boyfriend enjoyed the fried chicken and ham and liked the wide variety of desserts as well. So we went again recently to Buffet Royale as it seems to be a favourite for my seafood loving family with the king crab legs and mussels. Good thing it's not that popular with the other patrons and there's plenty for my parents even with the limit. I wish the rest of the food was as excellent for me as I don't dig into the crab legs. When we first arrived, I was disappointed with the dirty chairs. Every chair was stained or had leftover food on it. The waiter didn't come to take our drink orders until about 10 minutes after but maybe he didn't realize we were there as we were seated in the private area. Selection was similar to the previous visit with a large selection of Chinese food, beef, ham, chicken, potatoes, pasta with chicken, perogies, taco station, hot dogs, calamari, and the salad bar. The food was ok, some I enjoy more than others like the spring rolls and I enjoy the fruit selection with the chocolate fountain. There are 2 large tvs in the private area if you have people in your party that would like to watch sports, or poker as that was on the night we were there. Will we be back? Likely, and I'm hoping each time will be a lot better experience than the last but it hasn't happened yet! read more

So an update on this place. I went in and looked around last week and have gone there twice at lunch time now. It is vastly improved from back a yr ago when i first went. The place is cleaner,staff more efficient and the food is much improved. They keep everything full and stirred around. There is something for everyone with chicken,fish,pizza,perogies,noodles ,stew,hot dogs,roast, pulled pork etc etc. Nice selection of fancy type desserts as well . Decent coffee. Well, this was my first time back since my last review and I thought it was fair to update my review and rating. My 8 year old nephew had a choice of any places for dinner for his birthday and he did choose here (he loves all you can eat taco). So suffice to say I had my hesitation due to my previous experience. My sister has been here a few times and did reassure me things are better. I'm happy to say that things have changed a lot! First, our server was awesome in both service and personality, a huge change from the server I had last time here. I don't do buffets much in this city since not an all you can eat type person, as well I don't hold buffet foods to much high standard, just as long as it's decent and good. Nothing was mind blowing but everything I tried was better than last time. I really did like the roast beef, nice and tender I'm the middle. The last time it was dry and no taste. My brother in law loved the mussels. Overall the food was better than last time I was here. Not sure if new management or owners but good job on the changes! We went here for an end-of-semester celebration with a Groupon and I'm positive I won't visit again. While the selection of food was okay, it was mostly all quite stale. I couldn't eat the pizza because it was rock hard which was sad because it's so simple. That just told me that it sat out for a very long time. I was excited that there were ribs but they were prepared very poorly as the fat film on the bottom of the rack was not removed before baking, causing the meat to be tough and very chewy. The Asian food was alright; decent flavour, and the wonton soup was actually pretty good. While the service was mostly pleasant, the manager didn't seem too concerned about the guest experience at all and while he walked by our table multiple times, he never once stopped and asked about our experience. My father seems to only enjoy buffets. In his opinion, the selection is the best part and in my opinion, he loves eating three plates loaded with food for the one price. The service at this location is always good, and this means we were greeted promptly and with a smile. My father was impressed that one of the servers went all the way to his locker in the back to get him a lighter when he went out for a cigarette. (read: smoker friendly although this post does not endorse smoking) I don't recommend taking the booth by the entrance on the right; on the rare occasion that a kid requests cotton candy, it can make for a ---WHAT?! I can't hear you.... --- sort of awkward few minutes while the machine whirs away. That being said, I am not complaining because my father did choose the booth, as he does anytime we go out to eat, kindly letting the server know where we will be sitting, versus being seated. The food is always good, and for those concerned with the quality of buffet style food, rest assured they go through a lot at this location. I've never eaten anything that tasted stale or dry, that wasn't supposed to anyway. (Dry Garlic Ribs for example) The jello is amazing, and I love pairing it with copious amounts of whipped cream. My husband enjoys making his own ice cream. My father loves second and thirds. So it is always a win-win-win here. I recommend it for a family outing with picky eaters (seniors and kids) in a friendly environment; excellent on Sunday afternoons - and surprisingly not overly busy. read more

Quality of food, selection, and variety was terrible. All the salads were terrible. It tastes like the ones from superstore. Terrible. Perogies were soaked in watery oil and we're gross as well. Shrimp was good but unfavourable and overcooked. They had mussels too which was probably the only thing that made it worth the $27, I don't even like mussels. The rice was terrible and unfavourful. How do you mess up rice? Lots of fruit to choose from how ever. Not much other selection for dessert. The chocolate fountain was nice but they use shitty chocolate. I was most disappointed by this. My family and I love to go there the table service and food is astonishing and the staff there was just amazing to help you so quickly. But the one thing I would love to see if they added in more fresh sea food like have the crab legs more often because we tend to go there for supper sometimes but we never see the sea food besides the mussels and the sushi which is awesome but they only reason why they don't get 5 stars it because of the sea food you see they have a lot of nice food and it taste amazing but I would just love to enjoy more of the crab that they had. read more

However, I bought a coupon from Groupon, which gave me a 25% discount, but the restaurant refused to accept the coupon. So, beware: the restaurant no longer accept these coupons on weekday evenings or on the weekends. In my view, the restaurant has a responsibility to accept this coupon if it is still available online. If they no longer want to offer this discount, It is the restaurant's responsibility to have the coupon removed from Groupon. It is not the customers responsibility. And a word to the wise, Groupon does not give customers a refund on their purchases beyond 24 hours. What they offer their customers is a choice of other coupons. read more

A very random selection of western and Chinese food. I especially liked the turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes and gravy, but I am thinking this was a seasonal thing. Despite what other reviewers have written, I actually liked the pierogies, and the fried chicken was decent. A few of the items were a little too salty, but overall the food I had was good - not great, but solid. I enjoyed the ice cream, as well as the selection of dessert squares. Buffet Royale has a pretty broad selection to choose from: Asian, Italian, Ukranian, Presbyterian, blah, blah, blah. They also have a meat cutting dude on standby to give you a hunk of prime rib or slow roasted turkey, if you so desire. Even though their ethnic variety is latitudinous, it is made up of all the stereotypes that you would expect. For example, the token Ukrainian contribution is perogies, the Indian food is buttered chicken, the Italian addition is lasagna... you get the idea. If you're a Food Network viewing, restaurant blogging, culinary enthusiast who insists on taking pictures of what you are about to consume and sending them to anyone with an internet connection, you probably won't like it at Buffet Royale. It might not be up to your high standard. If you're not fussy and enjoy the higher levels of gluttony that only buffet restaurants can provide, you will like it here. The place can get pretty crowded in the evenings, especially on weekends. The rows between the buffet tables can get congested with people that are so fixated by the food on the tables that they're not paying attention to their surroundings. Without warning they will spin around ninety degrees and cut across to another table not caring who they bump into or what gets knocked over. This all is while carrying two plates in their hands. Be careful out there. The best part of Buffet Royale is the ice cream sundae bar. It gets really messy in that corner but who cares, it's ice cream. read more

Went here with a large group (50+) for a work lunch. We had a private room booked. The tables were set up for groups of eight or four, and it was pretty cramped. People turning sideways to walk through the aisles, etc. There was also a huge TV playing hockey which I always find distracting and unnecessary. I'm sure it's just their default to have it on, but I would have preferred to have it off since we were supposed to be there socializing. I found the decor to be safe, but it was more modern than I expected and looked clean. I didn't expect much from the food, and I got what I expected. Buffets are so weird to me in that they just have random selections of different styles of food. So I had a spring roll, some chow mein, some friend chicken, some perogies, Greek salad... you get the idea. Even though I filled up my plate, I didn't eat much because most of what I took was just bland. Disappointment after disappointment. And, even with only eating that small amount, I felt hugely bloated afterwards. The ice cream bar looked cool but I couldn't eat anything else at that point. The only reason I give two stars instead of one is because the staff seemed decent. Our servers came around a fair amount to ask for drink orders and to clear plates (though not as often). To be clear the 1 star review is for the quality of food and the price you pay for it. The staff, however, were very friendly and quick to take drink orders and remove our finished plates. I came here for a birthday party. It was the 16th birthday party of my friend's son and he chose place since he loves buffet. They have a mixture of Western-Chinese food (won ton soup, steamed vegetables, fried rice, chow mien, dry ribs, ginger beef and battered sweet and sour pork), Ukrainian food (borscht, perogies), seafood (shrimp and mussels), your choice of beef ribs, prime rib or ham as well as a large salad and dessert bar. I sampled a little bit of everything. The Chinese food was so greasy and the meat dishes were over deep fried leaving you with crunchy, tasteless meat. The seafood tasted a little too fishy so it wasn't fresh at all. I was super excited to try the beef rib since many places don't serve it but it was mostly fat and tendon and to top it off the perogies were bland. The dessert bar by far was the best. You could choose from a variety of squares and cakes. There was a delicious chocolate fountain with fruit and cookies to dip in and an ice-cream machine. But it wasn't sweet enough for us to be happy to pay $28 a plate for the value of the overall experience. This was the general consensus. Tonight at dinner the food and service were both very good. The manager greeted us in a warm and friendly manner. Our server was attentative and extremely pleasant. The food selection is quite varied (isn't that what the whole buffet scenerio is about anyways?) to cateter to a wide range of palettes, each food item was fresh and stocked, and the desserts is fabulous for the kids. My son was especially enthralled with the cotton candy that was made fresh upon request. The only negatives were the black-bean mussels had been left out too long (dried, tough, and cold), the beef ribs were to messy (too large and too much bbq sauce), and finally their butter chicken needs to be reinvented with a more edible recipe. The renovated restaurant is looks very clean and upscale for a buffet place. Washrooms also were clean and updated. We were very pleased with this restaurant and will recommend to others to give it a try. read more

Very disappointed with this visit. The place was a mess from the moment we walked in. Half of our table was missing cutlery which took 10+ minutes to get more. The quality and quantity of the food was far below what I would expect from this place. Many key items were only being made in small batches and gone within seconds of serving. On three occasions I asked when certain items would be replenished. After the server would check with the chef the response was "The Chef doesn't know". She said it was ''impossible'' because of the speed the tables were being replenished. Beware of their website promo coupon policy. The website and signage in the restaurant advertises a 50% off coupon for email signup. We were sent a 20% off coupon instead, and after reading the fine print realized it needed to be printed off as digital offers are not accepted. We will not be back. Got a Groupon for 31$ for a brunch buffet for 2. Went last weekend with a friend and before going like an asshole i read reviews on this place and was a bit reserved about going. But I went and seen first hand that the place was clean with very friendly staff. The spread of food was impressive and everything was stocked. The chocolate fountain was exquisite. Only 2 things that I can point out that were a shitty thing literally was the fact the men's bathroom has one toilet. Haha it's buffet come on people are going to clear some room in their stomachs for more. Let's be practical here another 2 toilets for the men's bathroom would be nice. And the breakfast sausages I don't know if they were overdone or just sitting for too long but wasn't impressed with them much.
