So I can only rate breakfast becuase I haven't eaten her for supper or lunch. We got a coupon with our stay at the Fantasyland hotel. I have eaten the breakfast now twice. The first time I had the Everyday Albertan and this last time I had the Traditional Eggs Benedict. Both were excellent. Everything fresh and tasty and the portions were good. The fresh fruit was a nice touch. REally love their hashbrowns. The hollandaise sauce was a really well done. This place looses a star because the service staff was rude the last time my husband went down to pick up our food. I also would like to see for the people that don't like meat as much to have grilled tomatoes to be substitued for their breakfast instead of the bacon for no additonal charge. The breakfast menu is not vegatarian friendly unless you like pancakes or french toast (I am a savoury eater). read more

got a discount and decided to try the place out and I'm so glad my family did. the food was amazing and the presentation was outstanding. A lot of fancy-type restaurants tend to not stand out or have unique food but this place was an exception, each dish was unique with one of the burgers even having a blue bun with Mac and cheese as one of the patties. I had been to L2 Grill once before for breakfast and this time we decided to try it for my birthday dinner. It's was pretty quiet on a weekday evening with a few booths occupied when we arrived. The hostess was friendly and prompted seated us in the third booth along the wall. The decor is a little dark but lovely with the red accents. We browsed the drink menu and I ordered the lime lychee drink that I enjoyed. For the entrees, there was quite a few steak options, pork chop, shrimp and pasta, fish, chicken, and a vegetarian main dish. There were also salads and a selection of appetizers. I decided to order 2 appetizers; the crab cake and shrimp cocktail. I asked about the calamari but our server told us it was more a salad with some calamari in it so we didn't order that. While waiting for our dinner, we were brought a bread basket with a few buns and slices or various breads. I like the variety and that it was not all white bread. It came with 3 balls of butter. While waiting for our dinner, there were a few more tables that became occupied but the restaurant doesn't get too noisy which I appreciated. We didn't have to wait long until our food arrived. My crab cake was one cake and was prepared fried. It came with some sauce a little bit of greens. The jumbo shrimp was 3 shrimp and while they were jumbo, it would have been nice is there was an one or two more. The crab cake was crispy on the outside and had ample crab inside but next time I wouldn't order is as I'm not a fan of the crispy crab cakes. There was still room for dessert so I tried something different with the strawberry bombe with mousse and strawberry inside and on a sponge cake. It was a sweet touch they included a Happy Birthday sign on top of the mousse and she let me know my dessert was also on the house. I enjoyed my dessert along with the strawberries that came with it. The service was attentive for the evening. It was a little strange as I would order and then the server would assume that was all we wanted without asking my husband what he would like. She did this with the 2 appetizers I orders and then with my dessert. I guess she thought he wasn't hungry. I might come back depending on the menu items but not a place I would frequent. read more

Our dinner was a part of a stay & play package before we headed over to The Comic Strip for the show later. Well, normally I take much better food pictures than this, so the fact that we dove right in says a lot. I'm just going to say it...since I had to "pre-order" our meals I had very low expectations. I figured to was going to be some low quality, starchy pre-made fodder. And guess what kids, I was dead wrong. We started with an app, cheeseburger onion ring bites. Very tasty and crunchy nuggets of goodness! I had chosen the AAA Alberta Flat Iron which was a Cajun rubbed steak served with truffle mashed potatoes, seasonal veg, and natural jus. The other meal was a smoked bacon wrapped porchetta with a blueberry balsamic gastrique, rosemary bread pudding and salted caramel jus. Both dishes were really fantastic and hubby and I shared! The food quality and service were just awesome! We had one little mix up with the bill, but it was corrected immediately. Unfortunately the brunch buffet the next morning was not quite as stellar. Very basic choices available, sausage and bacon, fruit, yogurt, sloppy bread pudding, scrambled eggs reminiscent of a continental breakfast at a chain hotel, a nice assortment of baked goods, cereal, oatmeal etc. Very basic, no wow's here. Lots of kids running around everywhere... Brunch was included in the price of the room/package so we decided to partake. If I was paying for it myself, I wouldn't have bothered, especially with tons of food choices available in the mall. read more

No buffets, but the tables are less and properly spaced and taped off for covid. First I've seen at any restaurant during this pandemic times. Really felt save there - allowing anxiety to be tamed and calmed. Food was delicious, big portions - as my kids love to eat. So I actually got to eat food. Haha. On of my favourite places to go for Sunday brunch buffet. So many tasty options from shrimp, clams, crab legs, to an omelette bar, roast beef carving station, to hot dishes like eggs Benedict, French toast, bacon and sausage and many more. The desserts are so beautiful and tasty and mini so you can try more than one! The staff is friendly and wonderful. It's a beautiful restaurant and surprisingly never overly busy but we still make reservations every time. Me and my family go here at least once a month. We have been going to this restaurant for a long time. It definitely does not have enough exposure. When you go in for dinner it's quiet but it's one of a kind dining experience. Not much restaurants in Edmonton do what they do. We took a friend from Calgary to this restaurant yesterday night and she found it quite amazing. First our server Wallace, he is awesome! Top notch service from him all the time. He brought out some bread and their home made lemon and raspberry butter. They change the flavor of their butter all the time. Raspberry is one of my favs. Then he brought out a spinach ravioli dish that was compliments of the chef. Delicious! They always do that, let you try something the chef created that day. We ordered the Olive oil seared scallops. It comes in three and it was nice and fresh. Wallace brought out their home made sorbet to cleanse our pallet before we start our entree. My favorite part of the meal. It's these little things they do that make the experience. Since my friend has never been to L2 I ordered the L2 feast for two. It comes with two free range Cajun chicken supreme, two AAA High River Alberta Beef tenderloin medallion cooked to your liking, two baked lobster tail, four jumbo tiger prawns and potatoes and seasonal veggies. It's a lot of food but can everything at once. My husband ordered their 16oz Alberta Bone in ribeye with truffle mash potatoes, veggies with sherry jus. For awhile they took the ribeye out of the menu, it's nice to see it back. The ribeye is huge!! All of it was amazing. My friend love the potatoes. We shared a bailey's chocolate cheesecake and a strawberry bombe which is a mousse with strawberry center atop almond sponge cake. To top that off, Wallace brought out their home made chocolates! They have different flavor all the time. So if you don't have room for dessert you can still enjoy a bit of sweetness at the end. I just love this place and would recommend it for dinner AND brunch! L2 Grill is located in upper level of West Edmonton Mall. They offer lunch and dinner buffet but I have only been to their lunch buffet. For $17.99 you get one choice of meat, two types of soup, various vegetable dishes, salad bar and decent selection of desserts that include baked goods and fruits. I like the atmosphere as it is quiet, clean with decent service. I know their selection is somewhat limited but I think for $17.99 it's worth eating here once in a while! read more

We went here for a drink when staying at Fantasyland Hotel. The place was very busy with an older crowd and only one server. She was making the drinks and waiting tables. Everything took ages. She was apologetic but the wait was just too long. Everyone was ordering cocktails so naturally, these take time to make. We had our one drink and left. What a huge disappointment! We came here for Mother's Day Brunch, a group of 12. We had a reservation, and were seated in the ballroom (still as part of L2 Mother's Day Brunch event). It was a nice room, but that's about the only positive thing I have to say. The food was alright. It wasn't horrible, but there certainly wasn't anything that made you say "oh my gawd this is amazing!!". And for $42.95, I certainly expect some form of amazement. Even if it's just one dish. Nothing here that tantalized even one of my tastebuds. Where this place really loses the stars is the service, or lack thereof. A table of 12, at a buffet, you can image how quickly the plates can stack up. And stack up they did. I had to clear plates off our table just because I was sick of looking at them. Only about after at least an hour of us eating did someone come and clear a couple plates. And he didn't even clear them all. I don't even understand what the point of that was. I kid you not, I think I cleared plates from our table 3 times. And my coffee mug sat empty. Never once was I offered coffee or tea. What's the point of putting the mugs and sugar on the table?!? So at this point, I'm thinking this place deserves 2 stars. The food is definitely only 3 stars, but the lack of service drops it down. But they just had to pour salt on the wound... our bill came with an automatic 17% gratuity added on. Are you bleeping kidding me??? Even when service is horrendous, I usually still tip, but a buffet, with no service, you would NEVER get a 17% tip from me if it wasn't forced. I understand parties of x amount or more usually have automated gratuity added. But this was a buffet brunch, with no service. You can't tell me that deserves the same percentage of tip as someone actually being served their meal, drinks topped up, etc. Steer very clear of this place. I came here for the lunch buffet on a Saturday with family. Every day they change their mains, and on the day I went there was chicken, pasta and roasted vegetables. In addition, they have an extensive salad bar, a few soup options, and also a pretty good selection of desserts. Wonderful dinning experience! Came here for my anniversary and experienced great service along with many of the staff wishing us a happy anniversary. Bf and I went here to celebrate our two-year anniversary. It was perfect. It was quiet and intimate and our server was hilarious! I had the most amazing martini to start and then we both had wine with dinner. We shared the surf and turf and we had so much food, crab, shrimp, steak, chicken you name it! Dessert was delicious as well, I probably could have eaten my own dessert if I wasn't so full from the main course. Made a day-after wedding brunch reservation here for my family, and we were late arriving. They called to make sure we were coming which was nice, but I'm pretty sure the waiter was bent out of shape because of it, there wasn't enough silverware on the table, half of us didn't have napkins, I had to ask for everything. We ran out of coffee and hot water, and had to ask multiple times for creamer and refills. The brunch bar was pretty decent Food was good, except the dessert bar, which I found was poorly organized and confusing with the signs. The omelette bar was great and the chef's on duty were friendly and efficient. Overall, a bad waiter leaves a bad taste, especially for the price you're paying! read more

Just wanted to say that in addition to the fabulous L2 Grill: on the main level, just across from Check-In at FantasyLand Hotel, there is the L1 Lounge! This is the place where I had my very first 'Purple Haze'. I also had a strawberry daiquri there that could really pack a punch. My S.O. and I came here for breakfast, kind of by accident. We went to WEM thinking it (the mall) opened at a 9AM; turns out the mall opened at 10AM. So we decided to kill time by going to L2 for breakfast as it was one of the only sit-down restaurants open at that time. The breakfast menu in general is limited and, in our opinion, over-priced for the options and portions you get. Not to mention there's no flexibility for dietary needs or requests. We don't eat pork-based products, which limited it to Pancakes ($9), French Toast ($11), or Porridge ($7). You can choose the other menu options, but if you don't eat pork, then you're ultimately paying full price for content in the meal which is being excluded. Despite the restaurant not being busy, overall service was slow as well. Quality of the food is fine, and it tasted good, but again not worth the price for the portion sizes you receive. read more

My wife and I came to the L2 Grill because we had two free breakfast buffet vouchers for staying at the Fantasyland Hotel. The L2 is not an ideal place to go for breakfast. When we arrived, there was a long line extending outside of the place. Inside it didn't seem insanely busy though. The reason for the wait was that the place has mostly booths that seat four or more people and most of the diners were in pairs. There was even one single diner taking up a booth. This place needs to have more tables for two and get rid of some of their booths and larger tables to accommodate the volume of people. Like I said, it was a buffet and the L2 is not set up for a buffet. They don't have the space for it. Their buffet area is a small room in the back of the restaurant with a few tables on either side filled with the usual buffet fare--pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, French Toast, fresh fruit, blah blah. At the end there is a counter where a server makes omelettes and waffles. This is a problem. When there is as little two people in line for an omelette, the buffet line can't move forward. I guarantee that your living room is bigger than this buffet area so imagine how congested this gets during a busy breakfast rush. But the biggest problem of all was with our waiter. We first got introduced to him when he came to our table and informed me that I didn't need my coffee cream anymore. He scooped it up and gave it to people at another table. During this quick exchange my wife asked him for more hot water for her tea. He mumbled something and then took off. He never came back. About fifteen minutes later he walked by again and I asked him again for some hot water. He didn't hear me. He was walking around in a confused fog with a thousand yard stare in his eyes. I yelled "EXCUSE ME!" so loud that half of the restaurant looked my way. I asked him again for the hot water. He came back with the water but offered no apology for forgetting about us. In his other hand he was holding a pot of fresh coffee. My own coffee was less than half full and he did not offer to replenish it. My wife still said a polite 'thank you' to him. He never responded with a 'you're welcome' or anything else. I'm curious as to why someone with zero social intelligence would take a job working with the public. Or better still, why somebody would even hire such a person. The L2 probably claims this guy's wages on their tax return as a charitable donation. Overall the food was pretty good but I'll never return here because of the horrible "service" from that waiter. I've never been to the L2 for lunch or supper so I have no idea what it's like then. But for breakfast--don't bother. read more

First off it took over 20 min for a server to show up and take our order. The restaurant smelled overwhelmingly like fish. We ordered the tenderloin and braised ribs. The Caesar salad tasted like a salad kit you get from the grocery store. The rest of the meal was average. For the money we spent ( over $100 without dessert ) we could had a much higher end meal at another restaurant with better ambiance. This was our first time at this restaurant. Having the restaurant int the mall makes for a little bit of an odd dynamic. On the up-side, its pretty convenient before a movie or after a day of shopping. On the downside you can hear people (or screaming babies) in the mall. I realize this is not really the fault of the restaurant, but it does impact my dining experience. I liked our waitress. She made us aware when she had to make a table side Caesar at another table, so that we knew she would be occupied. But she did forget to bring us the dessert menu after we had asked for it. You could tell she was trying and spread a little thin. The food was pretty average. We split a crab cake appie, which was a little fishy for my taste. I had the short ribs, which were really well prepared. Very moist and tender. I did appreciate that they included an amuse bouche as well as a sorbet between courses. The amuse bouche was a prawn and crab cake salad, in which the prawn was of the peel and eat variety. Difficult to eat, and I had to disassemble the plate to deal with it. Tasty though. The sorbet was mango, and had a very vibrant flavour. The wine by the glass is ordered by the varietal, not by the winery which is a little different than most places. In the end I walked out of the place full and reasonably happy with my meal, but not clamouring to return. Average. read more

For the most part, L2 Grill offers great service, but the menu prices are far too high given the décor, the dishes, and the setting. This isn't fine dining. In my estimation, it's on the higher end of the casual dining spectrum and thus items on the menu should be priced about 30-40% lower than they are. Of course, given its West Edmonton Mall location (with the expensive rents that no doubt come with it) and the fact that it's the restaurant for the Fantasyland Hotel, that'll never happen. I'm glad to have finally tried this place, but I'm unlikely to return unless someone else drags me there. read more

Okay...long awaited review. We went here for our anniversary last year in October. We stayed at the Fantasyland hotel in a Hollywood theme room, dressed up, and had dinner at L2 based on the recommendation from one of the bartenders in the bar downstairs. Dinner was, to say the least, impeccable. The chef recommended the wine to accompany our dinner. Fantastic selection. We started out with ceaser salads and bread. We had Bison Steaks grilled in garlic and spices. My husband had the mashed potatoes with roquefort cheese and my mashed potatoes were infused with garlic and truffles. Our vegetables, asparagus, broccoli, and green beans, were laced with butter and garlic. Yummy garlic infused dinner. Delicious. We got chocolates as our after dinner treat. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was intimate. If you are looking for a great place for your anniversary dinner or just a great place period for a really excellent meal, then visit this place. read more

Yeah!!! Finally, all 6 of us working moms were able to get together for a night of fine dining and fun, and also to celebrate 2 b-days. I picked the L2 grill after reading some good reviews . When we arrived at the front desk, we did not receive a warm welcome, but was greeted with a "Who are you look?" We had to say that we had reservations. Nice decor, red and black theme, lots of booth seating. It wasn't too busy a night, some empty tables. When the waiter came by to ask for our drink order, we said we weren't ready yet and he gave us a look and rushed away. He didn't come by for awhile, nice that the bus person brought us water. Waiter(never gave us his name ) came back to take our order. We order 2 lobster thermidors @ $40 each, 2 sirloin steak @ $39. each and my gf and I ordered the L2 for 2 ppl @ $84. thinking it would be a special meal for us b-day girls . When I asked how was the L2 for 2? His description was its chicken, beef and shrimp on a big plate. Never told us how it was prepared and he looked like he just wanted to put in the order and go. We also wanted 2 caesar salad @ $22 each, prepared tableside but that was unavailable due to the trolley for making it on has been broken for 3 weeks. Why wouldn't a fine dining restaurant replace this trolley right away? But you are able to order Caesar as a appetizer for $10 if you don't want to have it made tableside. Ok so the service isn't that great, let's hope the food makes up for it. WRONG!!!! The 2 lobsters thermidor came out. Nice presentation when it came out, but on closer inspection, one had white sauce on it which i think was the melted boccocini, but the other lobster was dried looking and it didn't have the white sauce on it to hide that fact that it was overcooked. When we asked the waiter about it, he took it to the back and came back within a few minutes. Wow that was fast! That's because he took it from another order to give to my gf. YES ppl he did do this and the reason we know this is cos he admitted it to us when he placed it before her. The 2 sirloin steaks came out next, looked nice, your basic fried onion ring on top of the sirloin. Too bad this dish was missing the mushrooms that are suppose to come with it (maybe they are still in the forest?) Who knows why they aren't on the plate, unless you count the tiny slice of mushroom that was with the glaze it came with. The two ladies who ordered this were feeling this sirloin was already overpriced but to add to the injury, the steaks turned out chewy. Holy crap how is the L2 special for 2 going to come out like? Well, this special meal ended up to be the biggest loser of them all. I couldn't believe how it was presented and the servings on it. The two pieces of chicken looked like 2 quarter pieces of Cornish hen, resting on 6 slices of potato that doesn't looked roasted or fried but boiled. It was bland tasting and bit dry. ( Your better off going to one of the major grocery stores if you want a more flavourful chicken .) Hey maybe that's where L2 should go pick some up. The 2 small lobster tails it came with were overcooked and even the butter and the seafood sauce it came with couldn't rescue it. The beef tenderloin was the only thing on this plate that was tasty. My gf's side of the meal had 2 shrimps and I only had one shrimp...jumped back into the ocean? These shrimps were the unshelled type, size alittle bigger than the 51/60. Hmmm how can you cook these 3 shrimps you ask? Well lets just toss them into something so that it turns color so it looks cooked, cos these shrimps are too small to grill cos you only get 2 and no sense putting them on skewer to grill and too teenie to butterfly. Ohh and that's not all, there were suppose to be some veggies with this meal but i guess they couldn't fit it on the long narrow plate it came on. When the host who came by to ask how everything was? I asked him why there were no vegetables and that i am missing a shrimp. He was nice enough to bring me the veggies on another plate with extra shrimps for me, but the slices of red peppers he brought to us were not cooked but still raw, felt like asking for some dip for them. By this time I was so disgusted with the whole meal, I just wanted to leave. We decided to not bother with dessert and just leave. Felt like a restaurant that was just opening up and the cooks and the servers didn't know what they were doing. If you have lots of money to waste and you don't care about how the food taste like, this is the place for you, but if you want to have a great dining experience go to Normand's, Vics at the Mayfield Inn, Vons, Characters, but avoid this place. Met up with some friends to celebrate a few (mid-November) birthdays in our group. Some people had gift certificates - I did not so my review is unbiased. Décor is very nice but the rest of the experience rapidly declined. The serving staff seemed nervous and disorganized. Wines were not stocked, drink mixes were not stocked, they were unfamiliar with the muse bouche they served and had no response when asked. Server was somewhat attentive and asked if things were satisfactory but didn't really stick around to hear if it was or wasn't. Dirty dishes remained on the table for extended periods of time. Then the food arrived but so did the excuses. The delivery of meals was staggered and there was no effort from the servers to organize space for the shared meals. I ordered a bison ribeye (med-rare) and one of the other guests at my table ordered the t-bone (med-rare) - both steaks were cooked rare and since our server essentially abandoned us while we are, I was unable to say anything until the meal was finished and my steak was still on my plate. To compensate, they provided the table with a selection of deserts - nothing appeared to be made onsite and were just standard. Server advised us, they did not expect to be busy and were understaffed - from our view there were plenty of empty tables while we were there. First off it took over 20 minutes for a server to show up and bring us water and take our order. The restaurant smelled overwhelmingly like fish. We ordered the tenderloin and braised ribs. The Caesar salad tasted like a salad kit you get at the grocery store. The rest of the meal was average. For the money we spent (over $100 without dessert) we could had a much higher end and more delicious meal at another restaurant with better ambiance. We went for sunday brunch and what a wonderful boutique style restaurant. the menu is slightly different to any where else we have eaten on a sunday. Entrees are help your self, beautiful breads, cakes, cheeses, fruit, continental meats salads. Then for the main you order food that is made fresh to order. Each dish is served individually on a small square dish and you are encouraged to order abou t3 items each to start with. it is good this way because then you dont waste anything and you can share. There were just the 2 of us so we ordered, white asparagus with parmesan, sauteed tomatoes with basil, chorizo sausage, scrambles egg and green onion crepe and chicken kiev. we had time to let the entree settle and drink coffee and juice while we waited. When the food casme it was lovely, esp the kiev. We shared everything, had a little more bread and then ordered again. This time, tomastoes again, peppered bacon and chicken crepe. every mouthful was a delight. then there was dessert to follow. Again help yourself to decedant chocolate mouses, cakes and other glorious desserts. It is a little dearer than other places but because it was freshly made you knew it hadnt sat out for hours, we would definately go again read more
