House special burger and side salad.
    Dave M.

Parking lot a bit rough (loose, muddy gravel). Entrance clean. Sunday football afternoon. Revelers in full response to games on several TVs. This place can use an infusion of customer service standards. Before discussing food, I need to explain. 4 of us for lunch. Waitress opted NOT to write down our orders but commit to memory. Yikes. You know at that point your order will not be 100% and her return twice to clarify the orders. I ordered the house premier 1/3 pound burger. Menu says Waygu. Doubt it. My burger was cool, fries cold and lacked flavor.Three strikes. Apps were table shared onion rings and cheese curds. No rave on any of it. Great place, simply needs a tune up that I feel would start with training customer service. Hot food should be served hot. Our server was "in a hurry" but not observed waiting other tables. Between apps and meal, we elected to stack dirty plates on adjacent tables. Other tables that were vacated by previous guests had dirty dishes left on. All could be understood / realized if the place was packed and the servers overworked, not the case here. We again will try this place out but I know to specify how I want my service.

I've been wanting to stop in this place in the old village of Brunswick for some time. Yelp…read morereports this as closed, but it's open and the hours on this page are accurate. I finally made it here last night. Brunswick is an old German settlement that was founded in the mid 1800's. It's about two miles west of Cedar Lake/US 41, along 133rd/135th Avenue. The tavern sits at the southeast corner of 135th and Calumet Avenue. You can tell that the building is very old, but kept in very nice condition. We arrived around 6:30 PM, came in through the back door and settled up to the old bar. The owners were watching TV at the bar, waiting to serve those who came in. The menu is very simple: a good selection of domestic bottles (Miller, Bud, Coors, etc.) and a few imports (Grolsch, Warsteiner). The owners were very nice and we talked about the history of the tavern and Brunswick. According to the owner, this has been a continually-operated tavern since 1856, when it served as a stop for stagecoach travel. The tavern was very clean and had a lot of neat, old swag including a vintage Old Style light fixture. Beers were reasonably priced. It doesn't appear they serve anything but bottled/canned beer and lemonade, but definitely worth the stop for a cold beer. I'll be back next time I'm in the area!

I had the baked french onion soup that was tasty with plenty of cheese, gator bites were fried well and juice with a good sweet/spicy sauce, Pot stickers were crispy with a soy type sauce. Menu is 1 page, but has plenty of choices, should be able to find something for everyone. Will be trying the wings next and then burgers. Can't get myself to try the caramelized frog legs, but a guy sitting at the bar loved them. New favorite restaurant for the area.

The waitress said she would bring the fifth as soon as it was done. It was pasta with two breadsticks. The four of us were done eating and the pasta meal was brought out 10 minutes later. We were done eating. I pointed out that one breadstick was very browned and hard. She should have never brought it like that. I ordered the coconut shrimp which was clearly from a frozen box. Butterflied with a coating of no coconut and very flattened. Not worth $23. I expected the pretty shrimp they advertise in their Facebook pictures when they have $1 shrimp days. Coated whole shrimp with coconut in the batter. Very disappointed in so many ways.

Our apps included the spinach artichoke dip, burrata, and the calamari. The calamari was probably the best I have ever had. I had pineapple tinis which were great. I ordered the filet for dinner which came with two sides, I got mac&cheese and brussel sprouts. Like literally every single thing was delicious and out of this world. 10/10 experience. Very good service as well. Love love love !!

Views of the lake. Our server was so so sweet & friendly. I ordered the seasonal Moscow mule. It was a happy hour special. It was cucumber mint. A little sweeter than I had anticipated. But delicious. I ordered the lobster bisque to start. It was $6. Very good portion for the price. And it was amazing. The bread basket at the table was very good too. Whipped butter & the perfect density & chew. For the entree, I got the macadamia crusted walleye. It came with 2 sides. I chose the garlic mashed potatoes & ceasar salad. The potatoes had a lot of garlic. So, make sure you like garlic. I was so full after the salad that I took most of the fish & potatoes home. It was a good sized portion. They were just as good the next day. We shared the chocolate cake & a lemon dessert. I didn't take any pictures because I only had a bite. But they were amazing. The server offered to take our photo by the lake at sunset. What a lovely suggestion. I can't wait to come back.
