Honestly not sure how this place has 4 stars... I want to be very clear that I don't want to seem like a Karen I clearly know we're in a pandemic.... I went in Friday afternoon with my daughter( 2 years old ) to get her.. her first bear from build a bear because that's where I always got mine... however walk in... no problem... we choose a bear, they stuff it and we're looking for cloths for the bear and an employee I believe the name was Rebecca, starts comforting me super rudely. Starts saying that literally a 2 year needs a mask... which is completely understandable but I was trying to explain that she keeps taking it off because she's a 2 year old... these stores need to worry more about 4 and up... found it super dumb how a 2 year old can walk into any other store without a mask but the one store that is actually for them they need one and without one can't buy a bear... anyway will definitely not go alone after super terrible service by Rebecca, I literally just saw another comment about an employee Being rude and I wouldn't doubt it if it was her. read more

Super rude staff, not sure I will be back and I had even signed up for the points spent $100 on two stuffed animals and accessories. Not impressed with the way the store is ran. If they don't change how they speak to people I'm not sure they will be in business. And it sucks also because my children love their stuffed animals I have a four-month-old a four-year-old and a two-year-old. First time here with my 3 year old---she had the best time-- we were helped by Iliana. Wow! She was so engaging with my super hyper kiddo! It was really an amazing experience. My daughter made a bunny for herself and one for her baby sister who will be born in the summer. It was really special--again--Iliana made it an awesome experience! We will definitely be back. Omg! Okay, I would celebrate my kids birthday here every year if she would let me. I wasn't aware of this before, so I'm writing another review for this since after the birthday party. I received loyalty bear bucks, I dunno what they are called but basically gift certificates valid in store. I also received "coupons" for accessories and up to $12.00 off of a bear or free if you choose that bear. We ended up with a bed, a hello kitty doll and hello kitty pajamas for my kid for only $11.00 after all the bear bucks and coupons. What a steal?! I also have a coupon for a free outfit w/ a purchase of another doll which expires in a month. Maybe my kid will be lucky enough to get another stuffed animal. I want to thank the employees at the MV store. Today was crazy and challenging to say the least... The gentleman at the door was amazing with the kids who were exhausted and couldn't wait to get into the store. Heather smiled and talked to my grandkids while she helped them build their bears. This is one of my favorite BAB locations! They're generally not very busy so the wait to stuff doesn't take much more than 10-15 minutes, max. They only have one stuffing machine. It would be nice to have two, but every time we've been here, there's only been like 4-5 people in line. The staff have all been generally very nice and the ones that work directly with the kids, eg the person stuffing, have been great at talking to them and making them feel welcomed. I came in once with a bunch of gift cards from Coscto and coupons that needed consolidating and the cashier was efficient and friendly. This location has less options than Downtown Disney, but there's still a lot of to choose from. If there's one you want specifically that you saw online, I would give them a call. You can also buy them unstuffed from another location or the web and then come in to stuff it. I bought one for my toddler to stuff later and they were super friendly when we came back. read more

My grandkids have the happiest, most magical, exciting time at Build-A-Bear, at the Shops at Mission Viejo. The adventure and fun begins with each child finding his or her very own perfect match for what stuffed toy is calling out to them for parenting. A bear, doll, monkey, dog, cat, Star Wars character, or who knows what, will soon be filled with stuffing and love. The "Builder Technicians" are amazing with all of the kids. Somehow, every time we've been to Build-A-Bear, I leave feeling like my grandkids must have had Build-A-Bear's Best-Ever Employee. The voice for the newly stuffed "baby" could be a bark, meow, Eeee Eeee Eeee, or Aghhh, Aghhh, Aghhh, or, again, who knows what, but it is such fun to witness the matches created. We recently came home with a monkey that sounds like Chewbacca. The kids get a palpable thrill (pun intended) putting a beating heart inside their new "little one." Each grandchild transcends into a devoted new parent right there as they complete their "baby's" or "creature's" Birth Certificate. I can't help being in awe, over and over, of the fun that never gets old at Build-A-Bear; both for my grandkids and for their "Meema." read more

Drove 40 mins to bring my son on his 3rd bday. I waited at the entry like the sign posted said to do. We were greeted by an employee who showed us the process abs began making my sons bday bear. In the middle of the process another employee came over, abruptly asked my sons age. I told her he turned 3 today. She pointed to the door and said I needed to put a mask on him at the door. Her tone was rude, she spoke as if I was the most stupid person. She said, since we were already in, I needed to hold my sons hand and not let him touch anything. I told her I could put a mask on him. She was just so rude and condescending. Completely Ruined the whole build a bear process for my son and I. I understand the mask rules and have no issue complying (although 12 hours prior when my son was still 2 he wouldn't have been asked to wear one), but there is a tactful and professional way to talk to customers, this employee definitely doesn't know how to do that respectfully. read more

I would never write a review for anywhere because I know how hard customer service is but when they wouldn't let my son in the store it struck a nerve. My son isn't two yet. He doesn't by law have to wear a mask (if he was older we would have him wear one but he's so young he doesn't understand). There wasn't a single soul in the store and when we tried to enter the rude older employee told my husband that my son needed to wear a mask. My husband was confused and told her he didn't have one and she informed him that my son couldn't enter. She Was very rude about it and gave 0 explanation. My son was reasonably upset and we walked away to try and console him. We were all excited to go in since we have three kids and it would be our infant daughters first time receiving a bear. I was so upset by the rude employees attitude that I went back and asked for an explanation on why we couldn't enter. When I went back a different employee started to give me the same speech. I informed her that my kid's (twins) were not 2 and that their policy stated 2 and above. The employee wouldn't even budge from the middle of the store while talking to me. I understand we don't want to be close to anyone because of covid but at least take a step forward to show an attempt at caring about what I was asking. She stated that if he didn't have a mask on he could not walk freely in the store....so I guess he was suppose to be carried in my purse like a miniature poodle? I understand each store is allowed to have their own guidelines and policies but they should clearly state them on their sign or make sure each guest is fully informed before they are simply turned away with little to no explanation. We've always come to this location but seeing as though this store has turned into "buy a bear and get out" I urge other parents to avoid their children being wrongfully kicked to the curb. I have never once had my son approached about an issue with a mask during this pandemic (like I said since he's still not 2) and I would've thought a store meant for children would be understanding/willing to work with a 1 year old. You would've thought these build a bear employees were bouncers at a bar turning away underage patrons by the way they talk to customers. read more

wow. this place is absolutely pathetic. WILL NOT GO BACK EVER! i recently took my 19 month old to build a bear at the block in orange. my husband and i wore masks and held her hand through - out the store, social distanced and had a great time. we recently came to the mission viejo store and the old women with blonde hair whom works here is a C U NEXT TUESDAY!!!!!!!!! she thought my friend and i were lying about our children being under 2 and said they were not able to come into the store without masks? the law is that children under 2 are allowed to go without masks. finally she said we can hold them but we CANNOT let them down at all. i asked another worker what the issue was and if she thought we were lying and she said the only reason would be that the women is immunal compromised so kids would have to wear masks around her. K. if youre so immunal compromised why are you ruining the experience for everyone else. mind you, she REAKED of cigarettes and had a smokers voice. and honesty i know covid is difficult and she might need the money but im really bothered about the way she went about it acting as if we were lying, watching us like a hawk, and just overall being extremely rude about the situation. imagine trying to get a 1.5 year old to wear a mask. i definitely will not be going back til shes gone!!!!! Side note: i had a really pleasant interaction with the other employees whom were extremely nice to my friend and i and our daughters. sucks that even during these rough times people have to make it even worse!!!!! she is VERY rude and extremely miserable clearly. read more

My son was given a teddy when he was born. Five years later and many washes between, teddy has become a little flat. I heard that Build A Bear will re stuff for a small fee. Teddy was not bought at Build A Bear and they went above and beyond to re stuff teddy and even give him a heart at no charge. Awesome and sweet people. read more

Took our Girl Scout troop there last night! They each made a bear to take home and a bear to take next door to the hospital. The staff was brilliant! Tiffany was amazing! They were busy for a Tuesday night but the staff was excellent with us and with the regular walk in traffic. They went above and beyond to make our group have a blast and feel special! We just had my 4-year-old's birthday party here this past weekend and it was a success! We had some late arrivals and we started 1/2 hour later than scheduled but the staff members there were VERY understanding. My son is autistic so they were also very accommodating, making sure they didn't have games that were too loud. Hanna Banana was our party host and she was amazing, full of energy, and so helpful. The store was nice and roomy for our larger party with 10 kids and 13 adults. All the kids in our party had never been to a Build-a-Bear before so they all loved it. I highly recommend this location for parties or even just to shop. The staff members were all very friendly and happy, making us extra happy! read more

We went to this Build A Bear and it was a good but not great experience. My daughter loves the place so we will go again and again. The staff was nice and helpful. The few things I saw that held me from giving 4 stars was the store was more disorganized than other Build A Bears I had visited in the past. Also, the line for stuffing was long and they waited an overly long time to open the second line. Multiple computers were not operating properly. Felt like the place could use some work. But my daughter left happy which is what really matters in the end. read more

I went to this Build-a-Bear looking for a bear to build (imagine that) for a pediatric cardiology office. Courtney... simply phenomenal employee, what a wonderful addition to Build-a-Bear. She immediately saw me looking around and approached me asking if she could help. Well she could, and she did! She helped me choose one of the top loved bears and even helped me dress him in scrubs and buy some little accessories. She seems like such a warm hearted person and I might have walked out of that store with nothing if it hadn't been for her. I was originally going for the teddy bear with the heart stitched on his chest but unfortunately they didn't have that one in stock. Courtney convinced me to get this other incredibly soft and cuddly teddy bear that the kids ended up just loving to death! It's so great because when kids are terrified in a doctors office it helps when you have a little teddy bear to get them through. Courtney was so knowledgable about what the kids liked and even suggested I put in a beating heart for the kids to feel. It really helps when you have somebody that seems so passionate about what they do. I couldn't help but notice how insanely awesome she was when interacting with the two little boys buying some bears as well. She was so animated and excited you couldn't help but smile. I wish all employees were like her, I'm telling you a lot more teddy bears would be sold...not to mention spoiled with the accessories on the side! read more

It was a busy day and this man named Jordan helped me and my daughter out. Despite the large crowd, we never felt like we weren't being attended to. He did a wonderful heart ceremony and kept my daughter entertained the whole time. He even got us to add a scent after letting her sample them. I wish all employees were as charismatic and friendly as he was. This is a great location to visit, it's not too big but it does the job.
