Honestly one of the worst experiences I've had at a shop. Walked into Anime King in Irvine excited to check it out, but left completely disappointed. The staff had zero interest in helping and acted like I was bothering them just by asking questions. Prices were ridiculously marked up compared to other places and online, and the store itself looked messy and unorganized. Nothing about it felt welcoming or worth coming back for. Total waste of time. I wish I could give zero stars--save yourself the trip and don't bother going. read more

Anime King is a small hobby shop, a lot of people or Yelpers here do not understand that. The problem with society these days is that they wanted to feel like they are entitled to their opinion, and then just because certain things do not go their way; they get hell-bent out of shape because of it. People coming in with the expectation that they would get large retail store experience are greatly misinformed. The staff is not trained in professional interaction with customers; customers should know how to interact with people and be less of a "Karen. " The storefront is where the items that are for sale are located; they might have some additional items in stock, but since it is a lot of work to find them - customers should check their eBay page listing. If you already know what to get, even better - proceed to the counter and ask if they have it - VERY SIMPLE PROCESS! No need to be mad over the interaction, no need to be a hater. If you want to spend your $$$ somewhere else, pretty sure there are TONS of online retailers that can cater to your needs. With that being said, Anime King is a store that tries to cater to Anime culture in general, since it's very broad - sometimes they do not have the latest and greatest, but pricing seems reasonable and they can answer your questions. Staff is willing to answer questions and can share a lot of information, if you are willing to invest in the relationship, ask and be nice. They have Gundam kits, Kotobukiya, Chogokin, for the most part, items that are carried by Bluefin distribution. They have some Sentai and Kamen Rider items - this is a plus. They have some plushes, Figma, Figuarts, and some "cute anime" stuff - but not everything. read more

Hidden and unassuming spot, but has great selection of figures and gunpla! Saw Kirby and Boo (Mario) plushies there too. Prices are pretty good. I asked if they carried Beargguys or Petit'gguys, and the cashier brought out what they had in the back. I'm really happy with my finds at this store. read more

Anime King? More like King Joffrey! What I'm about to write is apparently the standard behavior at this store. They have a huge selection of Myth Cloths (Saint Seiya), Gundam Wings, and Kamen Riders, among other figures. However, they're none for sale. Upon arriving at the store, the attendant wasn't there. A few minutes later he showed up and without even making eye contact he sat behind the counter and there he stayed. After browsing a bit, I asked how I would know which ones of the figures were for sale and which weren't. With an annoyed tone of voice, he replied: "if you don't see a tag price it isn't for sale," and immediately turned his eyes back to the screen. I kept browsing already feeling a tad awkward...and, yes, the silence at the place is uncomfortable. I ended up purchasing two Dragon Ball Z figures but was curious to see if they had Myth Cloths figures for sale too. I asked if he had them available, to wish he replied "we have some." I asked then asked if he could show me them, and then the most awkward part...he refused to do so (!!!) I had already paid and didn't want to make a fuss...but, needless to say, I'm not giving that guy my business again. I'd rather buy online and waiting a bit than having to give my money to someone so uninterested. I have no idea how they can still be operating with such a rude salesperson in charge. read more

Quiet but super nice, they have a lot of figures that aren't shown on the floor hidden in the back (you have to check their ebay and show them what you want and they will grab it). Prices are super reasonable and is about how much I would expect. read more

The store is extremely quiet & seems like there is only has one guy working the front. I didn't expect much coming in based on the reviews, but it's really not as bad as other reviewers made it seem lol Yes he's quiet and minds his own, but he will answer questions you have... which I personally prefer because he's not trying to upsell me & get all up in my business while I check out their products. This business mainly operates online, so their little retail shop in the front has cool displays & only has a small portion of what they carry online. If you're looking for something specific, I would email or call them. I didn't find what I was looking for in-store this time I went, but I was able to have a few PVC figures shipped to me after corresponding to them via email. I wish people weren't so harsh with their reviews bc I think they come in expecting service as if this was a big chain toy shop? It's literally a warehouse that has a small little store front that's open to the public to come in to pick out their stuff and go lol but anyways, as far as their products go..... authentic collectables straight from Japan so yes I'll def come again for more because I really just care about getting my toys & this place has all the figurines I'm looking for without me having to visit tradeshows or order internationally. read more

I swear yelpers are so whiny. I didn't get the pleasure of visiting the store. I did however speak to a rep from the store. I'm assuming the owner. Was he the friendliest guy? No. Was he polite? Patient? And willing to answer all my questions? Absolutely! Anyone asking for more than that is nit picking and being a spoiled child. I've probably spent about 4-5K here, and still the reception guy acts like I've insulted his family if I ask him anything. My wife was finally like, "Why do we even go here?" PS, unlike this place, eBay isn't a blast furnace in summer. Better to buy at home in air conditioned splendor than to gift this place your money. read more

Good selection of anime figures. Pretty good prices too. Bought from here plenty of times a while back. Don't know why the yelpers are complaining so much. This is just a small store that sells the figures imported from Japan. This is not a toys r us or something that has employees trained in customer service walking around every corner trying to help answer every single question. I work really close to here and have never seen this place until my co-worker randomly pointed it out on our way to Flame Broiler. It's in the middle of an industrial complex, so it was weird to see this store open to the public! They're closed on Thursdays and for the rest of the days they're open 10 am -6 pm. Walking in, you're greeted by display cases of various figures (mostly Gundam) and then you see rows and rows of figure boxes. That's what they're known for here, are anime and videogame figures. PlayArts, GoodSmile Company, Figmas, Gundam Kits, all sorts of figures. They also have a naughty section of risque female figures of course. ;) They have a huge warehouse in the back where they satisfy online orders, so you may not see staff in the front part. We didn't see any staff at all but there were cameras around. You can ring the bell if you need assistance. read more

They have a large variety of anime collectibles and items from model kits, trading cards, figurines, trading figurines, gashapon, and more. I like to buy my gundam model kits at this store, because they have great prices and keep a variety of all the grades in scale from SD all the way to Mega Size, including keeping up to date with the most current releases from Bandai.They also carry figurine lines such as Robot Damashii, Revoltech, Figma, S.H. Figurats, Kamen Rider, Square Arts, Max factory, Megahouse, and more. In addition they also carry variety of the Kamen Rider Henshin Belts/Drivers. - Customer Service - I like to note that the staff working at Anime King work very hard to help their customers online and in store. Even though you might not see the staff when you walk in or be greeted, please be considerate and understand that they are working in and out of their warehouse all day to satisfy all their online orders, answering emails/messages, and to make sure their shipments go out on time I understand that many customers would find the bell on the counter inconvenient, but -- Rest Assured, when you ring the bell for assistance, the staff will immediately come out to your aid and help you by answering any questions you have about the products sold in the store. read more

My boyfriend and I have tried to come to this store 3 times now and each time we get here they are closed for some reason. Today as soon as we pulled up they put a paper sign on the window "Be back in 10 mins". Now, don't get me wrong, 10 mins is not that long but the fact we drove down here once again to have our time wasted leaves me feeling unimpressed. If you're coming here, call ahead. Not your average Anime Store, in a good way though. -Does not look like a "store" out front, but does have a lighted "Open" sign. **This to me felt like some kind of specialty/manufacturing site of gundam, kamen, other anime etc. Difficult to rate it as a store itself but they still have products elegantly out and showcased goodies behind glass. Location: Its in Irvine so I feel pretty safe. Crime is everywhere but the street is lined with corporate buildings and no traffic whatsoever. Service: The team seems to be close-knit friends that had this shop in an older location and decided to go big towards the manufacturing. Friendly and always relaxed. I don't leave many reviews but I had to jump on here to leave one for this swampy hole in the wall. Asian guy at the front desk seriously needs some lessons in customer service. The other reviews of him are legit. Not sure what his problem is but he hates questions and practically yells if you ask him anything. He also just stares at you like your about to steal something. Maybe it's because I'm not Asian? He's lucky there were other people in the store and I kept it professional unlike his service. Anyhow... Seriously man, you're embarrassing yourself. You run a toy store, how about you lighten up and show some professional customer service. Shoot, I get better service at yard sells and flea markets. As for the selection, you're better off buying direct from the toy companies. Even with shipping from Japan, online prices are cheaper than this place. If you're looking for something older, eBay is the way to go. Don't waste your time with this place. I really enjoy anime shops and comic shops but this place isn't worth the trip. Just went here for the first time. Found them through eBay. I called them in the morning to make sure they were open and not closed for deliveries as others complained about. Previous reviews said there was no customer service so I was surprised to find someone greeting me right away as soon as I came in. They have a huge selection of items on display, some for sale, others for display only. Came in here a few times and it's always very peaceful I usually have my earbuds in so I don't know how the ambience is. The dude at the front doesn't say much but he helps you out if you have questions. I spend about $100 every time I stop by, if you frequently shop here I'd recommend getting their stamp card. I love anime and this is the place to go for serious buyers who collect PVC figurines. They have quite a bit of a selection and the guy at the counter is pretty friendly :) and they don't bug you into buying something. I purchased one figurine and my boyfriend got two figurines and we both got a 10 percent discount. They also give you a card with stamp for every 20 dollars you spend for a discount off you next purchase. Really look up the directions when you find this place :) Recommend highly! read more

This place is really hard to find. It is in the middle of a office/warehouse part of Irvine. It does not look like a storefront. After swinging around for like fifteen minutes, this place is reminiscent of their old location. A lot of random goods for decent prices. Most of the merchandise is market value and even lower. Since there is a warehouse in the back of this shop, they can easily get certain things that isn't in the front. On the most part, a lot of people special order things either on eBay and pick them up here to avoid shipping. I live pretty far from here, so I won't stop here unless it was a pit stop on a road trip to San Diego. read more

This place is tucked away in a very peculiar part of Irvine that mainly has industrial types of businesses or big corporations. The place is very clean and they mainly focus on Gundam model kits. It is very organized,and their display cases do a great job of showcasing all types of models and figures. This store deals mainly with import figures, however I noticed someone purchasing high end Hot Toys figures such as Bane from The Dark Knight Rises. So they might provide that niche for Super Action Figure Enthusiasts. Place is very quiet which is a good thing since that lets you focus on the products. The things I didn't like about this store are probably not a problem for those who are "regulars", but definitely to those that are new and be planning on visiting this store. I was never acknowledged or asked if I needed any help. And a lot of these items did not have pricing while others did. I also didn't see any signs with information on specials, deals, pre-orders or any publicity. So the customer service wasn't there for me and my friends. Pricing was just a bit higher than purchasing from other hobby shops in L.A. or Orange County. A nice big sign outside the building would help this place be easier to spot when driving. Their selection of figures was very good however and I recommend buying from since they are so close in the OC instead of importing from Japan and paying crazy shipping prices from other online stores. read more

Nice store and nice owner. I was looking for a particular Gundam Wing 100th scale MG called ," Sandrock" and they had it. I came from Torrance and the guy was able to pricematch the eBay price. I'll be coming here more often. I could buy it from multiple websites, but I like to support stores like these, because it inspires builders and makes it a little special for beginner to expert hobbyists.
