We had a pleasant experience at BAB during the week. I was surprised that there were several kids in line waiting to get their stuffed animal filled. My daughter wanted to go to BAB for her birthday gift. I expected the store to be empty but I was surprised that there was a good amount of customers when we went. The staff was friendly and helpful. We didn't wait long before my kids had their turn. I was also happy that they had a sale so we got 2 stuffed animals for less than $50. The store was clean and bright. read more

Brought my daughter in to make her first build a bear. She loved all the Different stuffed animals and had a hard time deciding which one but she did decide on the green frog! We were able to get it stuffed and filled with a strawberry scent. We got a cute outfit for it and our daughter brings it to bed every night to sleep with. Great place to take kids , it's pricey but it's always been pricey so nothing new ! read more

So I am giving it a two star. I will change this depending on how tomorrow goes. My husband is a marine. Unfortunately he is being deployed so he went and got me this adorable Bear and he recorded his voice saying I love you to the moon and back, I'll be home soon. Well as you will see in the picture the American flag on the military outfit the Bear is wearing is upside down. I find this to be extremely disrespectful. We called the store and they are whiling to switch out the outfit however when we explained this to the manager she said they are all that way: now if this is the case shame on the company. Build-A-Bear Workshop is a highly interactive toy store where kids can customize their own stuffed animal. Children gain independence and practice decision making by selecting a character and various accessories to go with it. Having a Build-A-Bear also introduces young children to responsibility and a sense ownership. My family and I visited the Potomac Mills location where we were greeted almost instantly. The Build-A-Bear process was explained to us and we were notified of current specials. I wish I could remember the teammate's name, but she was very patient while my daughter selected her stuffed animal. As you would expect at any toy store, this teammate was extremely kid friendly and allowed my daughter to voice her opinion on everything; from how "squishy" she wanted her stuffed animal to what fragrance the stuffed animal should have, but checking for the adults' approval at the same time. Another thing that I really appreciated from the team at this store was that they did not take cross-selling or upselling to an extreme- unlike other stores where they somehow guilt-trip you into buying add-ons. I would have given this store 4 stars because it is pricey. The stuffed animal alone can reach up to $35 while other add-ons such as sounds or clothing range from about $3.50 to $14. Then again, it is a customized toy and a wonderful experience for children. Although Build-A-Bear has around 400 locations worldwide and 3 other locations in NoVA, I would recommend coming to the Potomac Mills location for the best experience for both you and your child(ren). read more

Purchased clearance item that clearly stated that an additional 30% will come of at check out. I bought one item and it went fine. My sister bought an item and got no additional discount. Manager never came out of office. Cashier was told to tell us that it was a item accidentally put on the wrong clearance rack. THERE IS NO OTHER CLEARANCE RACK. When shown my purchase we got the look of indifference. It was either you buy it or you don't. Absolutely the worst customer service. Always check your Reciepts because they DO NOT stick buy their advertising nor does the management care. read more

This Build-A-Bear location is AMAZING and my experience yesterday just blew them off the charts and if I could I would give them 10 stars, I would!!! Every year I go build a bear for my niece for her birthday. Everyone there is always smiling and having awesome conversations with the customers. This location is like the Chik-Fil-A of all Build-A-Bears!!! Yesterday I chose to build my niece a black panther bear. Again, from the start everyone gave a friendly smiled and was very helpful. When I got to the register a young lady by the name of Heather, told me how she just built her boyfriend a black panther bear and made a "Forever Wakanda" recording to put inside because Build-A-Bear did not have a pre-recording. She asked me would I like her to make a recording also to put into my bear! I immediately said yes!!! She went to the back for a few moments and when she came back out, she played the recording and I fell in love even more!!! This is the place to go to if you want amazing customer service and to be around very happy people! read more

I took my kids here on 1/24/19. We recently lost our cat that was named after Toothless from How To Train Your Dragons. I saw that build a bear had Toothless the dragon, so I felt this might help my children get through the process of his death. We were immediately greeted by Tara who was very happy to help. Tara happened to ask if we had any pets and at that time I explained our reasons for being there. Tara was very patient with my kids and really seemed to empathize with our family. Getting a build a bear is normally a fun experience but this was kind of different situation and Tara was absolutely wonderful during the process. Our family shared stories about our Toothless that we lost, and Tara would in turn share stories about her pets. This really just made the experience special. Overall my kids left feeling much better than when we entered. I really feel that this is due to Tara's ability to adapt to the situation we presented. read more

My husband and I chose to have our 4 year old daughter's birthday party at Build a bear. I was a little anxious about having it there since we would have to have a separate venue to eat. So I went to visit the location 2 weeks prior to the birthday party to see how things were being ran and what to expect. The person that I spoke to was very knowledgeable and made me feel good about having the birthday party there. Boy was I wrong. The day of the party came and we were expecting between 10-12 kids. Our party person was Jacquelyn and she had no clue what was going on, how to instruct the children and showed no excitement. With the majority of kids being between 3-5 years old, there should have been someone with more experience. I introduced myself to her when I arrived and told her which package I was doing and let her know that the birthday girl was to receive whatever she wanted. I also asked her to make an announcement at the beginning of the party of what was included for party guests and she didn't. My husband had to make an announcement half way through after parents were asking. Also, the bears that she set out initially for guests to choose from were the wrong price range (it was lower)!! A few kids had already chosen the cheaper bears before the other person assisting noticed it. We asked if they could charge us for the lower price package for those bears since they had already been picked out. They said no. Then we tried to get the kids to pick out new bears given the updated choices to no avail... they were already emotionally attached. The party proceeded with Jacquelyn trying to give instructions in a shy, timid manner. I tried to help her by asking what the next steps were to help with the children but wasn't successful. I don't recommend doing a birthday party here unless the person coordinating has an excited, outgoing, child-friendly spirit. Jacquelyn also asked if we wanted to sing the happy birthday song to my daughter.... Uhhh YES! I paid at least $35 per kid and didn't get my money's worth. I also don't think that there was enough staff assisting. As a matter of fact, we probably would have been okay with two people had Jacquelyn been properly trained and knowledgeable. The manager never asked me if everything was okay. There was too much going on at the moment to engage in what would have been a lengthy discussion. read more

they are awesome here. i don't know what they get paid to work here but it is not enough! they are ridiculously nice even to fussy parents (i am absolutely including myself in that group). we came about 20 minutes to close and helped us out a LOT. they have a great selection. honestly i was ok with the prices because to me, i am paying for the experience too. my kids were thrilled that they got to put a heart full of love and strength in their creations. read more
