I've visited this café twice now .. once at the beginning of the year and again this month. The décor is cozy and a little mismatched, which gives it a homey feel. When dining in, you order at the counter, get a number, and they bring your food to the table. Breakfast items are available until 4 p.m., and after that they serve salads, bowls, and sandwiches. On my first visit, I had a hot chai latte with espresso and it was absolutely delicious. The second time, I tried the iced pumpkin spice latte and didn't love it. The pumpkin spice syrup is homemade, which is nice, but the flavor fell a little flat and the large glass was mostly milk, which overpowered the drink. For food, I've tried the egg sandwich simple but good. The spinach feta croissant was heavy on the spinach, light on the cheese, and even though I asked for it warmed up, it was still cold in the middle. Their bowls are very fresh, but I found them a little under-seasoned and could've used more dressing or a sprinkle of seasoning to tie everything together. Overall, it's a cozy spot with an inviting vibe (I love their "stay awhile" sign on the wall). I think it really depends on what you order and your personal taste. For some, the fresh and lighter options might be perfect. For me, a little more flavor and balance would make it great. read more

They serve housemade bagels, and of course, we had to try them. We ordered the bacon sunrise omelette, which came with a bagel, potatoes, and omelette. The bagel was fresh and chewy, the potatoes were perfectly seasoned and crispy and the omelette was filled with cheese. However, my favorite was the Lox bagel with cream cheese, smoked salmon, and pickled onions. It was incredibly delicious. Upon walking into this lovely little cafe, I instantly felt comfortable, with an open-air feel that made me feel warm and welcome. They both had a smile on their faces, and seemed to enjoy serving the customers. The place was also very clean and inviting, with tables cleared quickly. The food was definitely top-notch; you knew that it was homemade after one bite. I had ordered the Lox Bagel With A Fried Egg, along with the Elderberry Hibiscus Lemonade. I was able to choose what kind of bagel I wanted, while a large amount of topics were placed on the smoked salmon in an open-faced layout. My mother had the Chicken Avocado Handheld with the Beef Mediterranean Soup, along with the Turmeric Gold Latte. She also raved about how delicious everything was. I love the play on words here since it translates to "dying of hunger." We came with a friend who takes care of the orchids along the window sill and enjoyed walking in through their open patio. I didn't personally try the coffee here but I heard from 3 others in my party that the coffee was so smooth and some of the best they've had. I ordered a lavender blue matcha latte and thought it was both frothy and yummy. The smell reminded me of fruit loops but wasn't too sweet and had a lovely smooth texture. We ordered a Kough Amon and a cheese danish for a snack. The owner was sweet and came over for a chat and gave us a history lesson of the soorj drink on the menu which looks like Turkish coffee but is authentic Armenian coffee. I love this place. It's homey, has a nice ambiance, sweet staff and delicious food. In one week alone, I ate there nearly every day! Tried a few different types of sandwiches; BBLT, Turkey, Chicken Avocado and all were accompanied by a garden salad and a tasty balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Two Saturdays ago, I met up with three friends for lunch. One of them suggested that we come to Burka Maranga. She frequents this location often for dinner and lives close by. We decided to meet here, as it's a midpoint for another friend and me. I got here a few minutes before 1 pm. I seem to be the punctual person out of our group. One of them texted me after I had backed into a parking spot that they'd be twenty minutes late. I said that I'd go grab a table, which seems to be my norm. I found a table and plopped my stuff down. I then sat down and one of my friends had arrived. Another table closer to the window had opened up. We moved over there. A staff member helped us move two tables together and clean the tables off, which was nice. We chatted until the other two had arrived. The way things work at this eatery is that you order at the counter, pay, get a number marker, and sit down. Your order comes to you. The tough part was deciding what I wanted to eat. I love bagels and this place makes its own bagels. I have a weakness for bagels. The menu had a big hero sandwich, is which a meatball sandwich. I have a bigger weakness for meatballs, so I had to get it. It came with either soup or salad. As much as I have been on a salad kick as of late, I love soup and ordered the yellow split pea. I also got a cocoa crave smoothie, which is dairy-free. We got back to our table and chatted some more. Our food came, starting with the drinks. The cafe latte that two of my friends had ordered looked pretty. They were happy with how it tasted and looked. I got my cocoa crave smoothie. It was delicious. I am considering coming back just for this smoothie alone. My big hero sandwich with soup had arrived. The sandwich wasn't cut through, so it took some effort to break it apart without a knife. Anyway,once I got that completed, I took a bite. The meatballs were flavourful and yummy. They tasted homemade and weren't overly salty, which I appreciated. The bread was chewy and perfect. I loved everything about this sandwich. The yellow split pea soup was amazing. It was comforting, with little cubes of celery and carrots. I loved the contrast between the velvety smooth yellow split pea soup and the diced veggies. It was excellent. One of my friends got the same meal as I did, except that she went with a side salad. It looked gorgeous and yummy. She enjoyed it. One of our friends is Muslim. We called beforehand to ask whether the chicken was halal. It was. Yay! She got the parmesan chicken sandwich with a Caesar salad and thoroughly polished the former off in a heartbeat. She had some salad left over and had it boxed up. Our other friend got the rustic rice and legumes bowl. She added a hard-boiled egg. It looked so pretty and enticing. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal and said that she would definitely order it again. This place does catering. We saw a huge cheese, fruit, and cracker platter behind us. It looked so nice that I had to snap a photo. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. I paid using a credit card and was fine. The washrooms are on the left side of the restaurant when you first walk in. It was nicely maintained and clean. Parking does get busy on weekends. I didn't have any problem finding a spot. It's a small cafe at the corner of the street and it probably won't attract your attention at first. But as soon as you walk in, it's just wow The menu is not your everyday brunch place menu, you get alot of unique options like the the rose heart beet latte ( Yes, it's a cute latte and you get all the antioxidants properties of the beetroots) and white chocolate raspberry latte. There are so many other great options. I've been to this cafe numerous times because it's near my house. I recently came across this place online and decided to try it. I thought that the customer service was excellent, although it did take a little bit of time before we got our order. I liked the set up of the place and find it very simple. I also like how the theme remains constant throughout, even on the cups. I found the vanilla hazelnut latte slightly strong, but the chai latte was good. I would've preferred the egg sandwich to be toasted and warm. The veggie wrap was great, healthy and tasty. We can here on a Wednesday during lunch because it's close to our workplace. We got here around 11:30 and it was already pretty busy and I'm happy we came early because it got really busy at 12. There are lots of bar tables, regular tables and regular tables but it seems like people come here for meetings and to study so when we got there there was that kind of crowd there. You order at the cash and they give you a number and they bring it to your table which is pretty good so you're able to grab a seat while you wait. They serve breakfast as well as healthy trendy stuff like bowls. I got a super bowl with grapefruit dressing and it lived up to my expectations. What a hidden gem! My best friend and I went a day before work. It was a lot bigger than I anticipated there is a bunch of space and seating. The place is very clean and well decorated. I've had this place bookmarked for so long, so my first experience was a bit of a let down tbh. Café itself was rather large, including half of it with sofas/more comfortable seating. Other side consisted of hard chairs, a bit uncomfortable after prolonged time. I must mention that lighting is absolutely terrible! Overall, it was dim, but the lights that they did have were super harsh LEDs that were bright white. So don't stare too long 'cause the contrast will give you a headache! Bulbs should be replaced with something that's a warmer glow. Ordering was quick and easy, not overly friendly though. I got the Classic Buka Breakfast bagel sandwich and it was just alright. Bagel wasn't fully cooked as it wasn't fully risen and consisted of a doughy layer that was darker in colour. No real flavour. Coffee wasn't extraordinary. I found Wi-fi hit and miss, although my friend didn't have the same connectivity issues. Place got really noisy for the lunch time rush. Like really noisy. Personally, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. I think reviews are just high because there's nothing really similar in the area! read more

There must have been a change in management over last couple years, because the last time I came here (3-4 years ago), the cafe was kind of dead and not as lively as now. This cafe is located at Erin Mills/Millcreek in the business area. It is right next to a Chinese temple, across from a gym. I can totally see people coming here in the morning to grab something to eat before they head to work. I absolutely LOVE the ambiance here! I love the decor. I love the background music. I love that the main entrance is a 'garage door'. It is such a nice, relaxing cafe in the summer because of the cool breeze that comes in. A great working environment too. They have a high communal table (though, it would be better if they had electric outlets underneath the table like other coffee shops since they don't have much electric outlets here), they have regular tables that fit 3-4 people, as well as comfortable couches at the back if you feel like it. I can't say enough how much I love the atmosphere here. I have been here several times now and all the staff at the cafe are very friendly, nice and accommodating. The food here is amazing! I personally prefer their breakfast food :) - Classic Buka Bagel (Egg Ham Swiss) ($6.95): This was delicious and it gave me an energy boost. It definitely prepared me for the busy day ahead. Just a note: This place is known for the bagels!!! They are FRESH!! - cranberry muffin ($2.99) - it is house-made; lots of cranberry; tart and sweet. - Flat White ($4.45) - A little too much milk for me but still good. - Cappuccino ($3.45) - It was average; nothing spectacular to be honest - Chai Latte ($3.45) - They used a Rooibos Chai tea bag, a little too much milk for me and not enough of the chai taste. Perhaps it is just me but the drinks here are average, hence a one star reduction. While I was there, there were a lot of people who ordered lunch takeout. The price for a lunch meal is very reasonable so it is great to stop by to grab lunch here. They also do catering here, and half of the staff was preparing for a luncheon that day. Buka Maranga is a charming coffee shop that I could not get enough of. Surrounded by a large number of bigger stores and companies, this shop can be easily missed. Tina, the main cashier and barista, was one of the most friendly workers I've met in all of the cafes I've been to. She even remembered my name after one day! Unfortunately I didn't get to try the entire menu, but all the bites here were quite delicious! Lox bagel - I had this with the herb cream cheese on the works (basically an everything) bagel. The Sriracha aioli added a nice spice contrast to the sweetness of the lox and cream cheese. Highly recommend this one!!! Hummus bagel - topped with olives and cherry tomatoes, this bagel was delicious as well! The cherry tomatoes kept things refreshing. Avocado bagel - Avocados were fresh, nothing really of note but if you have a craving for that buttery, nutty delicious green, this will fix that. Iced Coconut mocha - had this everyday (Sometimes I'd even order two to have one post lunch)! Not overbearingly sweet and the coconut added a nice change of pace to my normal mocha cravings. This is my favourite bagel. I've come here multiple times just to get it. It has a fresh house made bagel, plain cream cheese, lox, pickled red onions, capers, sriracha aioli, everything bagel spice & chives. All this combined together makes the perfect open face lox bagel. The salmon is so fresh and the sriracha aioli gives it a nice spicy kick. Kale It Up was better than Berry Punch in my opinion. Price wise, it is pretty pricey... Everything I ordered (2 food + 2 smoothies) came to $48!
