Yesterday's dinner at Bull Shed was awesome! For starters, the views from the dining room are top tier, and we got sat at a lovely table right by the window over looking the bay. The Lilikoi margaritas were honestly, some of the best I've ever had- thank you bartender Pikake! While off to a great start already, our server RICK really MADE the whole experience what it was. He was very funny and easy to talk to, patient about answering all of our questions and had some great suggestions from the menu. We tried the scallops, and filet- which was perfectly cooked. I am very particular about the preparation of my steaks and his communication with the chef was spot on, and THEY NAILED IT! All in all, I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Hilo- for the views, the food, and I'll be requesting Rick to make sure the next experience is just as good as the first! read more

Our family had an absolutely amazing dinner experience at the Bull Shed Restaurant in Hilo! From the moment we arrived, everything--from the food and music to the outstanding service--made for a perfect family night out. We started with the calamari, buffalo wings, and artichoke dip, and the artichoke dip was especially delicious! For our entrées, we enjoyed the prime rib, Cajun ahi, seafood Alfredo, and what truly stood out was the rack of lamb--it literally melted in your mouth and was absolutely phenomenal! The seafood Alfredo was also amazing. Even the kids were happy with their chicken fingers and fries--they loved every bite! But what really made the evening extra special was the incredible service. Our waiter, Scotty, was absolutely the best! He has such a fun, outgoing personality, and we had the best time laughing and joking with him throughout the evening. He truly made us feel welcomed and added so much fun to our family dinner. Mika, who took care of our drinks, was also fantastic! I want to be honest about my visits to Bull Shed. On my first visit, it wasn't that great. However I gave it another try and this was for the seafood buffet. The buffet is very good. There are some nice items which made everyone happy. The crab was very fresh and the prime rib was very good since it is being carved, unlike the menu where you are stuck with whatever piece you have. Therefore, I highly recommend the seafood buffet and will be coming back for that. I also believe that you will find that the public will notice the excellent buffet and will definitely support your restaurant. Good job! read more

We had not been to WSW for a some time, and it seems that most of the front of house staff are the same at Bull Shed. While I very much approve, it also means I am more critical of a new restaurant getting it's footing. The Bar was running extremely slow and it took a good 10 minutes from when our first drink landed to when everyone was served. Two martinis, an old fashioned and a glass of wine isn't that hard. We had a single modification on the menu for our neuro spicy 7 y/o kid, and that was missed in the kitchen. Thankfully, our very cordial server was able to fix it by hiking back to the kitchen for a solo of mustard. While we appreciate fixing it, this should have been both easy, and a fast fix with minimal planning at a drink station somewhere near the dining room rather than a run across the building. We almost all had seafood, so I can't tell if the Kona Outback still holds the title of best Steakhouse in Hilo. Hopefully Hilo will take that trophy back home in of these days. Food wise we were happy with everything. The food was well executed, portions reasonable if at modern restaurant prices, but that is clear up front. No complaints here. read more

This was our first time trying Bull Shed Hilo and we brought friends that tried it a week before last night. It was nice that to know that we didn't need to make a reservation but I made one anyways with Open Table just in case. Love how convenient that app is to reserve time at restaurants. We liked the renovations they did, nice huge bar, good idea with the booths and couches with live music. It's amazing how potted plants and center pieces can give a classy look to an open space. We started our night off with drinks, we ordered a BS Mule, Old Fashion and a dirty Skrewball with our very friendly and funny waiter Scotty aka Swag. Took a while to find the Skrewball bottle but they eventually found it. Drinks were perfect but our friend had to wait 20 mins for his old fashion because the bartender was occupied by his friends at the bar but with Swag's help on checking the status, our friend finally got his drink right in time for me and my husband got our second rounds. We then placed our dinner requests, the guys got the BS cut Prime Rib- medium rare, our friends wife ordered the seafood pasta and I ordered the fresh fish plate, they were serving Lehi as their fresh fish. We also ordered side salads, a small caesar salad and a BS caesar salad, the tomatoes and cucumbers kind of threw me off to be in a Caesar but I'm all about trying new things. Our friends said her seafood pasta was really good and she cleaned up the plate. My fresh fish plate with the Lehi was very ono (delicious). As for our husbands prime ribs, these cuts are ridiculously huge! Perfect for hungry men, but it wasn't brought out as requested. Their primes were over cooked and dry. Scotty took the plates back and brought back out MR cuts. Big difference from what was brought out the first time. To end the evening, we ordered the holy shed, which is a layered double chocolate cake that came with a strawberry. It was very rich so we requested some vanilla ice cream. Scotty brought out a few scoops of Ruppert's vanilla ice cream and it was perfect. The only sad thing about our dessert was that they didn't have coffee for my husband. Now what restaurant does not have coffee? Little things to fix but they have potential. read more

Went at dinner time with family of 6, including a wheelchair family member. This place is large enough to accommodate wheelchairs (and if you're from hilo, you know that restaurants here, are not very wheelchair friendly). The vibe is great! The food was excellent! We got the prime rib (which was gigantic!), the kiddo had teriyaki chicken (he rated it 10/10), and the shrimp on a stick thing was really good as well. We got cheesecake and Kauai pie for dessert, and they were delicious. Cocktails were on point. Service was great! Waitress and all staff were locals, attentive and super friendly! Concept and design is great. The staff is friendly, but service is very slow. Our entrees weren't anything special just a grilled fish with rice and a steak with rice and it took an hour. Server came to our table once and all the guests in her section including us tried to flag her down, she did her best not to make any eye contact and B-lined right back to the kitchen where I'm assuming she stayed most of the night. There is a lot of potential there but the lag of service can be a deal breaker. Plus I went back and ordered a burger and calamari plate and that is the first time ever that I just couldn't eat it. Both the Burger and Calamari were so oily that I felt nauseous. I hope they work out the kinks. Until then I'll just avoid it read more

Definitely not worth $75 for buffet. I took my Auntie for her birthday. We had a 5pm reservation. The greeter needs to smile and learn customer service 101. Unfortunately, poke and cheesecake ran out, without being refilled. What is up with that? There is a lot less local style entree's as the previous owners buffets provided. I would strongly suggest adding more paniolo style entree's such as more fish selections and poi, fried chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, if you're going to run out of food at least have back up available. Smdh! Our waitress Rosanne is an asset to your business. She was very apologetic and was really very nice. She brought a candle lit chocolate sundae for my Auntie. We anticipated a good meal but left very disappointed. The steaks we ordered, New York and Filet, had very marginal sauces. The steaks themselves were fine but the blue cheese sauce on the NY and the black pepper sauce on the fillet really missed. The steaks come with rice (who does that?) so we ordered a baked potato. It was under cooked and hard as a rock. The menu stated the meal would come with bread. Never saw any. Service and ambience were fine. Meal disappointing. Especially for the price. read more

Bull Shed, the new steakhouse concept in the Hilo Hawaiian, is a really nice improvement over WSW. Completely remodeled with a larger bar area, a new menu and the already great views of Hilo Bay, this restaurant will become a regular stop on our rotation. We tried the new Bull Shed in Hilo and we're underwhelmed, we went with their tenderloin with their famous Garlic Slidge, the meat was very dry and over cooked (burnt) and there was no sign of the garlic sludge. Although the prime rib appeared to be perfectly cooked, the outside edges tasted rancid (usually my favorite part), crab legs overcooked and fishy tasting, other hot food on the buffet was cold. We were excited to see experience the Bull Shed and hoped it would be an improvement over WSW...it was not. Service was not good and the food worse than the service. I really wanted to come away with great news. The flavors were mediocre and the quality (cooking?)of the meat was sad. There were 3 of us and we ordered prime rib, tenderloin and ribs... they were all tough. The ribs were lukewarm warm and probably the most tender. There was nothing outstanding. The best thing ordered at our table was the Mule cocktail. Ambiance can be difficult in such a large space but I was pleasantly surprised they had live music and did enjoy the evening with some of my favorite people despite overpaying for poor quality/prepared food. I will try Bull Shed at least one more time in about 6 months ..hopefully they will get their act together. There must be a good reason this restaurant does so well in Kauai...Hilo deserves quality also. read more
