I ate at the location in Kona a few years ago and remember how good it was so a few years ago while on a work trip we stopped by this location and everything was good. We were on a staycation visiting from Oahu and decided to stop for lunch. I don't know what happened but this was a pretty dismal meal. The menu was different than last time and there wasn't a lot that sounded good. My honey got the lechon pupu for his meal, my dad and I got the smashburger and my mom got the vegan taco. We also got the spring rolls. The lechon was probably the worst lechon we've had. The pork was not crispy and it just had a weird taste. My mom took one bite of her vegan taco (made from mushrooms) and made a face and she was done with it. Dad tried it and also agreed it was bad. After their critique I definitely wasn't trying it. The saving grace was the smashburger. It was pretty tasty. I also liked the salad it came with. I shared my burger with my honey since his food wasn't so good. We didn't have any beer here so maybe that's what brings you in but I would avoid this place when it comes to food. read more

Close to the most perfect burger in my life. I go home to the main land and crave this burger. There is only one problem - while tasty, the bun is a ticking time bomb of disintegration. You then enter a race against savoring every bite or switching to eating the burger remnants with a knife and fork. If you love excellent beers than this is one of the places to hit up when in Hilo. All though the food can be occasionally inconsistent at times, the good selection of Ola brews and great service can somewhat make up for it. Don't get me wrong on the food, it's good. If you come here and eat something delicious, on the next visit you want that same dish to be equally as good or better. Getting anything on a lower scale can be disappointing. I've experienced it first hand, but still am a fan of Ola's Brew restaurant. Every place has its hiccups, they are no different. Hopefully it's an off day. Also as a non soda drinker (wife's a soda fan) I think they should offer a few name brand soft drinks for families, though I do give them kudos for trying to substitute it with their own mixtures, but sorry soda drinkers are very picky just like most beer drinkers. I do love that they have free parking available and the restaurant itself is kept very clean and can accommodate larger groups. Overall a place to check out when in Hilo. read more

Ola Brewing is one of my favorite places to visit primarily because of the beer. The town this is always evolving, from visit to visit. There's usually something new. Fortunately for me there's usually three or four on the board that I've had before and I really like so I'm always happy with the beer. This trip we opted to ordered the 10oz ribeye steak with chimichurri sauce. The flavor and taste of the steak was good but the texture of the meat was a little tough for the amount you pay for 10 oz. We worded it because we saw someone else order one a couple of nights before and it looked tender but ours was not. Still, it was a very shareable item at a premium price though. Really here for the beer selection which is always good and usually there are several beers on the wall that are very amenable to our taste. I have to honestly say I think I like the Kona tap room better because the Hilo tap Room seems more clinical and not as welcoming and warm as the Kona taproom or that's my personal opinion. First time at Ola Brew for lunch, was promptly seated and given menu's and water. Selections on menu were simple so we ordered the cheeseburger and Cobb salad. Items arrived fast, the cheeseburger was nice and cooked just right, very tasty. Fries was hot and fresh. The Cobb salad was also nicely presented and well proportioned, good size serving. We decided to venture over to Hilo for the day to experience something other than Kona. After stopping at the Kaumana Caves and Rainbow Falls, it was time for lunch. After I was picked up at BIG Hilo Airport I was famished and told my sista let's get brunch! Ola Brew has been on both of our lists for a while, even though I've had the beer on previous visits, it was always a can or bottle from KTA. On this late morning the planets aligned and Ola Brew it is! On a Sunday the posted hours say 11:00am open, however when we arrived a tad after 10:30am the doors were already open with customers inside. I should have confirmed, but I would guess the opening time is 10:00am-ish? Upon entering we were warmly greeted and led to one of the high cafe tables. Each employee we encountered friendly with a calm vibe. I instantly fell in love with the natural light ambiance and high ceilings. The Sunday menu offered brunch so I opted for the ADOBO FRIED RICE OMELETTE - 3 egg omelet filled with Adobo fried rice and topped with house-made Hollandaise ($18). Sis chose the AVOCADO TOAST served with hard boiled eggs and fries from the Keiki Menu ($12). We each ordered FLIGHTS (pick four). I chose a combination of Beers and Hard Juices ($15). I really enjoyed the Dragon Fruit Lemonade and the Luhia Pale Ale. Tita's fav the Tangelo! I loved how the staff had no limit to combinations unlike other breweries. I also highly suggest you leave a choice for the friendly staff to pick for you. The turnaround time was clockwork. Our brunch in front of us minutes after receiving our Flights. Oh my! The ADOBO FRIED RICE OMELETTE was beyond amazing with chunks of pork and well seasoned rice. Adult Sis enjoyed her Keiki meal and tho it's listed as a kids meal... the serving was very generous and adults would be well fed! In the end, I highly recommend Ola Brew - Hilo. Small lot with lots of cars but we did go on a Saturday afternoon. We ended up driving around on the surface streets and decided to park on a side street. I don't think all the cars were for Ola Brewery, it wasn't that crowded on a Saturday afternoon when we visited. SERVICE: Sassy, peppered with molasses, sprinkled with attitude, then a smattering of actually funny. The host was a young guy. His attitude was "whatever, mmkay." The server was impatient when I couldn't figure what the hell I wanted for a flight choice (a lot of them were sold out as well), so she walked away and made us wait at least 20 minutes because we were dumb tourists who didn't know what we wanted. There were other diners who were looking around for the a) take out b) the check c) water d) more beer. I was watching them looking around. Yelp eyes. The only funny thing at the end of our visit was the guy at the check out counter. We said we were from Oahu when the subject came up. He said, "I'm sorry to hear that" but he wasn't being a pud, he was just joking and he was the best of the bunch. FOOD: Only came for the Brussels Sprouts pupu ($15) everyone was raving about. It was pretty good. Charred sprouts with a salty fish sauce, but raving about it? Not sure what the hype is about. For food we were saving our appetites for Pineapple's Fresh Island Cuisine not too far from here - better deal and service, but we had to give this place a try. DRINKS: Decent flights of cider and beer. I got the cider flight ($15) Build Your Own Flight. Most of the ciders I wanted were not available. My husband got the OG beer flight ($15). The pours were four glasses at about 3 oz each. I preferred the beer flight over the cider flight, and I normally like the fruity-tooty stuff. A lot of the ciders were very sour and flat. My favorite was the Vanilla Porter beer, and I don't like porters! We got a 6-pack of the Vanilla Porter to go. TOTAL COST: about $72.00 including tip and taxes. Return factor: will stick to their canned offerings in the grocery stores. I can make my own Brussels Sprouts. read more

The staff was friendly but they were pretty busy so it took a while to get our order in. The hard juices were all great and a very unique offering! My favorite was dragon fruit. Ola burger was so good and I loved the gravy fries. That's a must get. The dan dan gnocchi confused me though. The flavor was good and I liked the garlic, but I'm not sure what makes it "Dan Dan". When I think Dan Dan noodles, I think of peanuts, schezuan spice, and ground beef. It wasn't spicy. Maybe if they called it peanut garlic gnocchi it would've been more accurate. read more

Kīlauea was not being good to us this day. Rain wind and no lava or pyrotechnics. Just steam. We will have to go back. Coming down the mountain we got hungry so we tried to find a local spot to warm up and eat. When I saw Ola Brew I told her this is the place. Especially the Brew part. We pulled in and for a rainy day in the middle of the day they had a decent crowd. What do you people do on this island? I want in. Any ways. This is a very nice modern industrial looking place. Service was quick and nice. Since we are in a brewery I had the Ma'a Lager my wife had the Hard Dragonfruit Lemonade. To eat I ordered the Ola Burger my wife had the Bao Buns one Pork Belly and one mushroom. Now I don't know if it was the rough time we had on the Volcano but damn tha was a great burger. Super delicious cooked just right and a good amount of fries too. My wife's Bao Buns were awesome but the true hit of the party was dessert. Ice Cream Bao was unique and so damned good. Fried Bao Bun in cinnamon with Ice Cream. So good. Well done Ola Brew. BTW Kīlauea went of the next day after we were there. Visited Hilo for the night and, with so many great food spots, I stuck to my favorite travel ritual: hitting a local brewery to try their signature burger. Ended up at Ola Brewery in Hilo, and it hit the spot. For a Tuesday night, parking was nonexistent, but luckily there was overflow parking across the street at a nearby strip mall. Turned out it was trivia night, which explains that lack of parking and no available seating, so I was seated outside until something opened up inside. Started with an Ola IPA--a solid West Coast-style kickoff. Once I got a seat at the bar, I ordered something quick, assuming the packed room meant slower service. Went with the pork belly bao. The menu was simple with solid options--clearly designed not to outshine the real star: the beer. I also ordered a beer flight with four IPA samples; I think they had other flight featuring Ola ciders and other Ola brews. I really liked the pork belly bao--it reminded me of the char siu-style buns you'd find at a local manapua shop or Chinese restaurant. The fatty pork belly paired perfectly with the beer, with extra depth from the kimchi and a wasabi‑like sauce. Should've ordered two. Even though I was there alone, the friendly atmosphere and attentive bartenders made it feel welcoming. I even found myself getting into the trivia questions as they popped up on the big screens. My favorite beer from the flight was the Krush IPA--intense fruity hops with a clean finish--so I ordered a pint and the one burger they were offering that night: the Ola Burger. The Ola Burger, made with two smash patties, two slices of cheese, grilled onions, and Ola sauce, was a real treat. Honestly, it tasted like the long‑awaited upgrade to a Big Mac. I'd get it again without hesitation. Finished the night with the ice cream bao--strips of fried bao with caramelized cinnamon served a la mode. The bao came hot, the ice cream cold. I dipped the cinnamony pieces into the ice cream, so good, it reminded me of churros. A great way to end the meal. 5 stars. read more

I'm obsessed with anything that stems from Hawaii, so it was no surprise the beers, hard juices, and ciders Ola Brew makes are a part of that statement. Our team of 30 came in on a Sunday afternoon. While I was initially disappointed by how overwhelmed the staff seemed and the delay in accommodating us--something that's pretty uncommon in Austin--they managed to serve us once they got everything sorted out. Ola has an incredible vast menu and provides a little something for everyone (excluding non-alcoholic beer). I had the Boujee Beer flight, and had absolutely NO regrets. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients in each sip. 5 stars for Ola (though the service could use some improvement when handling larger groups)!! read more

I'm from Oahu, but figured this would be just a tourist trap and over priced yuppiness. In ways it was lol But the food was actually very good. Burgers, bao buns, and all were good. Recommend getting the pork belly char siu. Brussels are also crispy yet soft with a great glaze. Try the sauces from the spicy aioli to their red chimichurri. Service was also great. Food came out fast. Drinks came out even faster with beer and seltzers on tap. We ordered a refill and someone brought it out right away, but then another waitress gave us a refill too. She said "I can't pour it down the drain!" So she gave it to us. Honestly, great vibes and great atmosphere. On the pricey side, but worth it with the clean space and great ppl. read more

Great visit to Ola Brewing. Good beer, very good eats (see pics). Servers were very nice. And made some great recommendations. We had some of their beers and one that was mixed with their hard seltzer (Creamsicle). The beers were good. I'd recommend U get and share one of their various flights and decide on what you like best. We got a couple of the Ola Burgers and a couple of Chicken Birria Tacos (super tasty!). I think what we most enjoyed was the dessert. Our Server recommended we try their Ice Cream Bao and try it with the "Cookie Monster" and "Mexican Chocolate" (cinnamon taste). The food and table service was friendly and fast. However - they took almost 5 minutes to acknowledge us and several workers looked at my party of 8 and continued to ignore us. It was quite annoying for workers not to even smile at us. I felt like we were bothersome. We arrived after 9 pm but the website said the restaurant closed at 11 pm. If they didn't want us in the restaurant they should have told us. We were not the last to leave so again I felt we were a bother and not worth an acknowledgment. I will not return to Ola Brew Hilo and I will not bring my outer-island family again. We will go to Zippy's or McDonalds to get friendlier welcome to an establishment. read more

We had a couple short flights and once we landed in Hilo we were all really hungry. Did a quick search for something close by and this place looked like it would check all the boxes for us and it did! My husband got the bougee beer flight, I got the hard juice flight, and our daughter had the blue ginger lemonade. For food, we had some of the best Brussels sprouts I have ever had with the most delicious roasted garlic imaginable. We also had the dan Dan gnocchi, the pork belly Bao bun, the shrimp Bao bun, and the kids grilled cheese. Our server was kind enough to offer recommendations and steer me away from an item that definitely would have been an Mis-order for me. The whole experience was great and they even had lilo and stitch coloring sheets and full boxes of markers for kids.
