Joseph has done a couple of previous jobs: one big and one medium. The first was replacing Knob…read moreand Tube wiring in an antique house. The second was wiring a whirlpool tub. He did amazing work on knob and tube, avoiding opening walls and getting the job done in a surprisingly short time. The whirlpool was a straight forward job which he went at and got done quickly. His knowledge of the wiring codes had him replace the breakers for the tub under recent code changes. The recent work was a quick and dirty job and I was wondering if he would even be interested in taking something like that on. Fortunately he was available and came the next morning. It turned out to be a really simple fix but it did depend on knowledge of his craft. (Multiple bathrooms can be wired together with one gfci.) As always, he is my goto guy for electricity. You will not be disappointed.b

Joe did some work for us - very simple light fixture change - and he was courteous. When we called…read morehim several months later he made an appointment for a few days out, and I was clear to let him know I would be adjusting my work schedule for this appointment. I find him talkative, and he went on about a big job he is doing and how he feels badly there are so many small jobs in Maynard he wants to get to but can't. I asked him if he was taking this job because although it was "small" we suspected it could be a dangerous situation. Yes, he would be there "early afternoon" on a day the following week. Well, he never showed up. No phone call. I gave him the entire afternoon. When I called him late that afternoon (4:30), he wasn't even sure what I was talking about. Then he said he did recall, but he was working on a big job, and he gave me the same information about how he has these big jobs going on and feels badly there are so many local people who he can't get to. Ok, I thought I'll play along with this and I asked hiim politely when he expected he could get out. He said maybe on his way home. I said, what time would that be, he said 5 pm, but it was already 4:30 pm. Oh, that's right, he said that wouldn't work. He said I should call him next week and he would see what he could do and that he would never remember to call me since he doesn't write anything down. Needless to say I don't care how inexpensive your prices are or how good your work is, or what your trade is - doctor, electricain, hairdresser, tinker, tailor, sailorman - treating a customer like their time is less valuable than yours AND not having common courtesy to take 3 minutes to call and cancel or explain you are too busy means you are not running a good business. My sense is....this electricain will be happy to get paid to do work for you if he isn't busy with a bigger job but, converesley, will not tell you he's too busy to take on your job because he wants to keep your business for the times work is slow. That being said as it turns out the wonderful electrician we hired by way of recommendatioin from 3 local (Mayard/Acton/Sudbury) businesses ened up having to spend a full day to fix what turned out to be a large issue. Ironically, if J. Rocheleau had simply called me that morning to say he wouldn't be able to get to us that day - or even if he had called at any point that day to say he was too busy - I wouldn't have written a negative review.

What began as a positive relationship eventually turned into repeated billing issues, including double charges and unexplained fees that required me to cancel autopay and change my card information. A major concern for future customers: Alarm New England locks their Honeywell Lyric panels with installer codes that they do not provide to the customer, even after the contract is fulfilled and the equipment is fully paid for. When I asked for the installer code, I was told I "did not have access" to it. This effectively prevents you from using your own hardware with another provider. Only after I sent a certified termination letter did the company suddenly reach out, offering to reset the code, but only if I powered the old panel back on, which I had already replaced. Service quality also declined over the years. One simple sensor installation took nearly an entire day, and phone hold times were often 20 minutes or more. I was also quoted an extremely high price for a basic battery replacement, which came with pressure to sign a new multi‑year contract. I have since switched to a local company that provides full access to my system, transparent pricing, and no long‑term contracts. Based on my experience, I would encourage others to research alternatives before committing to Alarm New England.

False alarms that they can't correct without hundreds of dollars in extra charges and long wait times to get resolved.
