Cute vibe but WHOA the prices in the shopping areas that are attached to the ice cream soda shop in the drug store are SUPER high! Couldn't buy much due to the cost hike. We shop lots of small shops and antique malls and this one truly got us with the cost of goods. But overall a fun old time aesthetic for the ice cream area for the kids. This drugstore is just what I'd imagine a drug store to have been generations ago-a place where the local young people hang out and spend their allowance on a treat after school. It's got a little bit of everything, and is so full of charm and character that it attracts many types of people. There is a pharmacy in the back as well as drugstore items-albeit a smaller selection than you'll find at Walgreen's. But, hey, you're here to support local and enjoy conversation with the people who've been coming here for years. Up front is the soda fountain, candy and novelty treats. Everything flows nicely and keeps your browsing interest long enough to ensure that you leave with a few items. I was so excited to come here for a milkshake. I walked through the store and bought a magnet and a book and some funky measuring spoons, that was a nice experience with other cashiers. Then, I stood in line behind a family of maybe 10 people here after graduation and watched them all order milkshakes. It took a long time. 20+ mins later it was my turn, I was the only one left in the store, and asked for a small cherry chocolate chip milkshake. In a very rude tone, the girl behind the counter said, "we're not making milkshakes anymore." I kind of laughed thinking she was joking. She was not. The entire family was enjoying their shakes at the counter. She said they were closing soon and wouldn't make any more milkshakes. It was about 7:30 and I knew they closed at 8. She was so mean. I had been looking forward to it all day. I almost cried walking out and felt embarrassed. Horrible treatment and horrible experience :( I felt stupid for waiting in line so long. read more

You are familiar with the biblical story of the Good Samaritan? Jesus ends by asking, "which of these was a neighbor?" My family and I recently visited southern Utah for the first time. Early in the week, my wife took a spill on a bike; her arm became infected. We were pretty rural, between Mt Carmel and Orderville, and all pharmacies within 45 minutes were closed. Our doc calling in the Rx is here at our home in NC. I found Bulloch's online, but it appeared that I would arrive there 5-10 minutes after their normal closing time. Walgreens and Walmart both said, "tough." The pharmacist at Bulloch's, and his assistant, said, "Sir, we'll be here whenever you're able to arrive." After a 70 minute drive, I arrived right at closing time; the meds were ready, and they stuck around to chat with me about their town and the area, asking if we'd had a good trip, etc. The good folks at Bulloch's were, in every wonderful sense of the word, neighbors to this North Carolinian that evening. That got the antibiotics going at least 12 hours sooner, and possibly helped prevent the infection from becoming much more serious. I have t-shirts from Zion, Bryce, and the Grand Canyon; if Bulloch's had one, I'd be wearing it with pride. Thank you, folks, for being extraordinary in how you approach the day-to-day. read more

Walking by I had to stop in and check out a pharmacy that still has an old fashion soda fountain serving ice cream. Walked around to see what else they offered. It looks like a full service pharmacy in the back. Spotted a compounding area in the back with a hood. I don't see many of those in independent's anymore. Walked through the knick knack section of cards and candy. They offer a nice selection of ice cream flavors. I wished I was still hungry to enjoy some but trying to eat better these days. I have not met a single staff member that does not care very deeply about you and your health. In a small town, your healthcare options can be very limited. So, I feel very lucky to have Bulloch drug here. Because unfortunately, occasional mix-ups with prescriptions are inevitable, I'm speaking specifically about communication with insurance, doctors and pharmacies (ESPECIALLY insurance. If you know, you know.). It's never anyone's fault, it's just a part of life. But, when it does happen, Bulloch does an amazing job at finding every option available for you. Like recently I found out I'm allergic to a specific brand of medication, and the staff at Bulloch jumped on it and made sure I wasn't stranded without the proper medication. You'd think that would go without saying for every pharmacy, but it doesn't! They definitely go the extra mile here to make sure you're in on the loop with everything, as well as reassuring you that your medical needs will be taken care of. read more

Visiting Cedar City this year during my fishing trip. As I walked down Main Street, I came across Bulloch Drug Store that actually has a soda fountain bar inside. I was greeted by a very personable employee named Shannon. She smiled while speaking and helped me decide which flavor of ice cream I would have. ... "HUCKLEBERRY". It was delicious. As a 'drug store' this place is a big ol meh: nothing in the way of usual drug store staples (like compared to say Walgreens) so that leaves two things: a pharmacy (fine enough I guess) and then the big reason to go: the soda fountain. From the late 1800s to the 1950s most towns in America had 'drug stores' that served as a mix of a Walgreens and a Dairy Queen if you will. Unfortunately these phased out and one no longer things of pharmacies as somewhere to hang out, let alone get sugar fixes. Bulloch Drugs has a long history. The building has been there since 1906 (hence the Sheepherder's bit on the sign) and the drug store itself I think has been there about 40 years. Done up in a 50s style there's a soda fountain (place to get your ice cream goodies, soda treats, shakes, etc) and a candy counter with various hard candies and chocolates. The prices are beyond reasonable, if I remember right a large shake is like $1.80. They use Blue bunny ice cream which is a bit of a let down (nothing tastier?) but its decent enough and everything else is done right there by hand. Its a throwback in time and a really cool place to visit. You want somewhere to go kill some time, or get some ice cream? Bulloch Drugs is the place to go...no Dairy Queen crap. read more

As I was sitting in my car waiting for hubby to finish some business he was in town for, I noticed the sign to Bulloch Drug and that there was a soda fountain. I grew interested and really needed to pee, so I headed inside to check it out. I saw the sign for the bathrooms and went for that first. I opened a door, went up stairs, made a left turn and then walked down a hallway that started to curve before I found it. It was awesome! I felt like I was in some sort of maze or somewhere I shouldn't be. The bathroom smelled fresh and was very clean. As I headed back downstairs to Bulloch Drug, I noticed the inside of the building looked older and kinda cool. Bulloch Drug is independently owned and a full service pharmacy. The cool thing is the whole family can come here. It isn't like the typical drug stores you see today like Walgreen's or CVS. Bulloch Drug is old school with a soda fountain and has been keeping it real for decades. There were customers coming in and out of this place and I loved seeing all the local support for a hometown business. When I saw the soda fountain I went right over to check it out. There were a few ladies behind the counter and one of them came over and greeted me. She asked if there was anything specific I was looking for. I explained that I was just killing some time and checking the place out. She told me a bit of history about the place. The soda fountain is an original 1942 that has been restored. Pretty cool! They don't offer food here, but they do have shakes, ice cream and candy. The small shakes start at $3.19 before tax. I picked out a couple candies, thanked the nice ladies and was on my way. This turned out to be a great place to be sitting in front of! Now that I know about it, I can plan more accordingly and stop by for a shake on another visit to Cedar City. You can enter from the front of the store or the back, but there is better parking behind the building. read more

The back of this store actually contains a pharmacy- as in: raised platform ringed by old wooden shelving, with white coated technicians mixing prescriptions, probably with a mortar and pestle. I'm guessing they're not as cheap as Wal-mart. Screw Wal-mart. The middle of the store has a few shelves of drug store type items, but is mostly occupied with candy and gifts, and if you venture through the doorway, you will find it attached to two more storefronts, also selling gifts, most of which appear to have been crafted by loving Mormon hands. Happy browsing for codgers like me. But wait: in the front. there is a soda fountain. Not a lunch counter, which would have also been cool, but not as cool as this. Pharmaceuticals and ice cream. This was such a treat for my two daughters. We went to Cedar City for a short relaxing family getaway. After going on a hike we stopped by for some delicious Ice cream. We sat at the bar area and when we were done they were able to shop for a stuffed animal. I also got to shop for a few items. Vanilla extract and some fudge for holiday treats and a cute apron. This was our second trip to Cedar City and we just knew we would have to stop by every day of out trip. It makes for a wonderful family treat! read more

Update: I spoke with my vet's office shortly after Robbie did. I was told that when Robbie called my vet to "get permission" to fill early, what he actually did was called and told them that he suspects I am taking my dog's medication and that Bulloch's won't fill the prescription anymore. There was no "asking for permission." So he lied to me not only when I asked that he call for permission and said that he would, but also when I called days later and he said that he asked for permission and they said, "No." Robbie is completely unprofessional and even repeatedly opined that my dog's medication, at the prescribed dose, even not filling it early, was "way too much, even for a big dog." Again, Robbie NEVER even asked about my dog's weight (over 150 lbs), breed, health condition, etc. Robbie Vickers is not a vet and numerous vets have green-lighted this exact prescription. If Robbie wants to be a vet, I suggest he go to Veterinary School, instead of acting like he has knowledge in an area which he does not. Again, this guy never asked about my dog's weight, age, health condition, tests I had run, etc. Furthermore, the lack of common sense is astounding. From purchasing my dog over 8 1/2 years ago I have spent five figures on him including vet visits, routine care, boarding, traveling all over the Western US for jobs with him (at significant cost to me), then all of these tests when he started peeing blood and being in pain for the past year and a half. Why in the world would I spend all this money as some elaborate ruse to later, EIGHT AND A HALF YEARS LATER, predict that I was going to want to steal my dog's medicine, after having to spend thousands and thousands of dollars out of my pocket in order to get him treatment for his condition, which I could have never predicted over 8 1/2 years ago? I would think a pharmacist with an ounce of common sense would think, gee, I don't know, that if someone was going to abuse drugs they would run it through human insurance or medicare instead of pay thousands and thousands of dollars out-of-pocket for numerous tests for their dog and hope that their vet randomly decides to select that medication. But we aren't dealing with common sense here, we are dealing with some random, nosy, judgmental pharmacist who is not educated in veterinary medicine and likes to try to cause problems for people (like some woman with a dying dog) likely because he doesn't have enough power and control in his own life or deep insecurities. Anyways, that was my experience dealing with Bulloch's. P.S. I still got my prescription filled early by my vet despite Robbie trying to create drama for me. So I am back at my old pharmacy in St George, where I never had any issues. Shnookie and I definitely give Bulloch's two thumbs and two paws down. _________________________________ I had been filling my dogs Gabapentin prescription here for the past couple of months since I moved to Cedar. He has been in extra pain recently so I gave him extra medicine so at least he could sleep. Because of this, I called in my prescription early (on Sunday) this month. Bulloch's automated system told me it was early but they would call my vet and it would be ready on Tuesday. No one ever called to say that did not happen, so I went in Wednesday to get my prescription. Robby, the pharmacist, told me that they did not fill my prescription because it was almost 2 weeks early (it was 10 days early). I told him the automated system told me they would call the vet and I asked him if they had. He said no. I asked if he could and he said he could in the morning, but "that was a lot of Gabapentin, even at the normal dose, even if I had a big dog." And kept telling me it was way too much. He kind of seemed like he thought I was taking my dog's Gabapentin because he kept looking at me strangely, like I was lying or something. I put it off as that maybe he was just worried about my dog and doesn't realize I have a French Mastiff who is 150 lbs (he never asked, just said that the prescribed dose is a lot, "even for a big dog"). Anyways I just called and asked if they had called my vet. The gal that answered put me on hold and then Robby got on the phone. He said he called my vet and they wouldn't let it be filled early and that he decided that he wasn't going to fill the prescription anymore. I was confused and said "you won't fill ever again? I have to find a new pharmacy?" And he said yes, that he won't fill it ever again for me. When I asked why he said I was constantly calling it in early (weird because I have only been using Bulloch's for less than two months since I moved here and this is the first time I ever remember calling it in early) and it has become a "drug of abuse." So apparently I was right when I thought he was acting weird like he thought I was taking my dog's medicine. It does not feel good to be treated like a "druggie" for trying to get my dog's prescription filled. read more

The Bulloch Drug Pharmacy is made up of a tremendous group of people. These folks go out of their way to treat you very well and help you with any problem you might have. They are casual and warm in their dealings, but very professional and organized in business matters. Bulloch drug has done a wonderful job maintaining that small town vibe that is so appealing.
