This place rocked my socks! It was an unusual mix of southern ranch and Bavarian/European, all in a ski village but it all worked. The atmosphere was just so fun and nothing like we have in Indiana. The staff was all friendly and helpful, and although the wait was an hour, they text you when your table is ready, so we just did some shopping in the village while waiting. Once seated, at a cool booth with pillows!, we ordered the Bavarian pretzel starter. It is one giant, steaming, delicious pretzel with a mustard-type dip, a beer cheese, and an apple butter. We all loved the dips equally and wanted another! Then they brought out the jalapeño corn bread muffins which were delicious. I ordered the red cliff burger with chicken instead of angus. They had probably 8 styles to choose from and then you could choose chicken, angus, or elk for the meat of that sandwich. We had a terrific, relaxing dinner at the Bully Ranch. It's the mid-season between winter and summer. The restaurant is not that large inside so we were happy to have a choice of tables. The food was really, really good across the board. We started with the Elk Chili nachos (which have spicy red peppers!) then had four delicious entrees: beef fajitas, pasta with the elk and San Marzano tomatoes, a chicken Caesar salad and a light margarita flatbread. They serve cold soup. Their remedy was to 'zap' it. The second bowl was still cold even 'zapped'. Told the server it's still cold and he responded with, "well we will heat it up on the stove for ya". Third bowl was to proper soup temperature. read more

We came upon this restaurant quite by accident on a recent trip to Vail, Colorado . Our intention was to go to the Fondue place that came highly recommended at the Sonnenhalp Hotel. The Bully Ranch another restate the same resort, turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The portion size was generous and the food was delicious. We were a party of 6 and starting from the the grilled cheese sandwich, to the Tomato Cheddar soup, to the Fish and Chips, everything was yummy! The piece de resistance was the Bavarian chocolate dessert that the establishment gave us to celebrate a group member's birthday! All in all it was a wonderful experience and we will certainly be back when in Vail again. read more

Me and my 3 BFFs stopped in for dinner this past weekend. Any time we are in Vail we always stop here for the Truffle Tots. They are SOOOO good! The atmosphere is inviting and the staff is always very nice and attentive. I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato soup. The sandwich was crisp and very cheesy. Not a huge fan of the tomato soup though, the flavor was a little off to me. One of my friends ordered the fish and chips and said it was really good. One friend ordered a burger and the other a salad. They both seemed to enjoy their selections. They offer a nice variety on their menu and I can't remember any of us ordering things on this visit or in the past that we were disappointed in. Decided to go here on our first night in after the long drive! It was a varied menu that would be something for everyone! Pro tip - it's through the hotel, and down a hallway! Follow the signs We started with artichoke dip and the pretzel. The dip was tasty but really the basic kind of thing. Pretzel was big and tasty! I went with the polenta and mushroom sauce - i read it wrong and thought it was mushrooms, not anything purred, but it was still tasty! The hubby got the burger and was less than impressed - just the regular. Another dining companion did the elk and thought it was tasty, and the last one got the chili. All in all a decent meal, but nothing to write home about. They had edelweiss (sp) beer, so that rounded everything off nicely! We made reservations by calling directly 2.5 weeks in advance. When we got into town we called to confirm a few days in advance. No reservations were on their books. They didn't try to accommodate us even though it was their fault. They said someone probably removed the reservation. So if you think you have reservations, don't count on it. This is not the bully ranch of yesterday. Used to love this place but disappointed with our recent overall experience. We had 7 PM reservations and did not get seated until 7:50. Food did not come out of the kitchen until almost 9PM. Brussel Sprouts and buffalo burger were served luke warm. Caesar salad was not worth ordering at all, bitter tasting and soupy. read more

I would not reccomend getting the truffle Mac and cheese if you come here. The environment was very cute but the food did not satisfy. When it first came out, it looked very pleasing but when I took a bite I didn't taste anything. 4 stars? Really? Based on a few reviews here, we both ordered the Definitive Burger. I'm not sure what this burger defines, but it's a grim meal. Overcooked buffalo, which had been left to dry out under the heat lamp far too long. It was a dry, crumbly, cold mess. It might be one of the worst burgers ever. Our server made the experience complete. She worked hard at visiting our table as infrequently as possible. Our requested mustard never appeared, and I was never given a shot at a second drink. Disappointed! The only thing good about this restaurant was the atmosphere. The service was not that great. I ordered a 14oz ribeye and ordered another one to take home. Both ribeyes were over cooked. When the waiter brought my plate, the ribeye didn't quite look like 14oz to me. I came home and weighed the other steak, it was only 10.5 oz. Came here on vacation just for drinks and apps since we had a super late lunch. For drinks, my boyfriend got the Barrel Aged Sazarac which was strong, but tasty. I got the mule that was delicious. I think I drank the whole thing in 5 sips. We absolutely loved the soft pretzel which came with beer cheese, apple butter and mustard. I could eat that every day. The spinach and artichoke dip was good, but more of a soup than a dip. We also loved our server who was super nice and chatty with us. Overall, I recommend! read more

First off the spinach artichoke dip is BOMB. Second off the Definative Burger is BOMB. Lastly my fries were pretty over cooked, like bottom of the barrel over cooked. The service was good enough, but I feel for the prices of the food, in order to give it 5 stars everything needed to be perfect, and the fries were not. I'm actually pretty surprised at some of the lower ratings for Bully Ranch as our group had a great dining experience there. Our server was attentive and helped ensure we were out in the time frame we needed to be. All of the food ordered was very good - I highly recommend the nachos and bavarian pretzel to start. The burgers are pretty big and can easily be shared. The prices are in alignment with pretty much all the other dinner options in Vail. The restaurant is larger than I thought as there are a few rooms you don't see upon initially entering the space. We sat in a spacious room, away from other crowds. A great place to eat with the family. We really enjoyed our meal at Bully Ranch last night. There were 6 of us. We didn't make a reservation or anything and there was about a one hour wait on Saturday evening. There is a piano bar/lounge right next door where we waited and had some drinks. It was really nice. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really relaxed and casual. I liked the overall decor. The service was very good and quick. Most importantly, the food was great. We all really liked what we had. Free bread and cornbread is served for the table before the meal. Below is what we ordered: Chicken Pot Pie (three of us got this): really good. It is like a chicken stew with a large flaky biscuit on top. Not the traditional pot pie with the filling in the middle of the dough. Some of us were thrown off by this, but I thought it was really good. Butter Nut Squash Ravioli: Awesome. I think the ravioli may have been fried because they were crispy had a really good flavor. Not your traditional ravioli. Great portion size for ravioli. Definitely plenty big. Half-rack of ribs: Awesome as well. The bbq sauce on top was very flavorful. The person that ordered this really enjoyed it. Chicken sandwich: My wife had this and was very pleased with the chicken quality and overall flavor. Overall, a great experience and a great meal. Highly recommend. Definitely something on the menu for everyone and reasonably priced for Vail. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because we felt like we were seated in the middle of a hallway. People keep walking around our table to get to the piano bar next door or something and keep bumping into some of us. So, it kind of felt cramped. While staying at Sonnenalp, we've eaten at Bully Ranch twice and have pretty much gotten the same foods. The spinach artichoke dip is out of this world!! Pictured below is what's left of it. Another fave of ours is the chicken pot pie. Very flaky crust and creamy inside. Others who had the fajitas looked good, as well but don't miss the spinach dip! The tortilla soup is very tasty, as well! Food comes out quickly and waitstaff is very attentive. One evening, we did order to go and it was minimally done but still good. Just don't expect the full portion when getting food on the run. read more

Such a disappointment. Birthday dinner for one of my good buddies, we took the advice of a local and stopped into Bully Ranch restaurant. Short wait for our party of 10 (expected, really) but we were seated and all quite hungry after a day of boarding. Our server greeted us and let us know he needed a few minutes - no problem. About 30 minutes passed before we were even given an opportunity to order drinks. i was not a fan. We got a few appetizers - the pork belly and the tater tots. Pork belly was tasty but maybe needed a little salt. The brussels sprouts its served with were not very good. Steamed, slightly undercooked, and massively underseasoned. The tots were delicious though - fortunately that is hard to mess up! For dinner I ordered something from the specials section of the menu - the chicken pot pie. This sounded like absolutely the right move after a cold day on the slopes.. STEER CLEAR! This was TERRIBLE! It was a small bowl of watery cream of chicken soup with a terrible puff pastry on top. This was not a chicken pot pie by any stretch of the imagination. It was a glorified $22 bowl of soup. My girlfriend got the fish and chips (also from the specials section). Her fish was flavorless and the french fries seemed like they'd been thawed from frozen, flash fried, and allowed to sit under a heat lamp for a while. Pretty sad excuse for fried potatoes. I was honestly most appalled by that damn bowl of soup. The one up side; we did not get 20% gratuity included on our bill for the terrible service, so I opted for a second star because of that. read more

Nice upscale lunch! Bartender could use some help during lunch rush as he's doing double duty. Had the fried chicken sandwich and the "truffle" tater tots. With a friend visiting from NYC and interested in a good burger I decided to go to Bully Ranch where I had enjoyed a good burger before. When we arrived at 9:30pm on a Saturday night the restaurant was full, which is always a good sign. We waited for a table at the bar and ordered a beer from the 6 or more they had on tap. Once we were seated we had a nice round table. My only complaint was that it was in the pathway of other diners and servers and I kept having people knock into my chair. If I went back I would prefer a booth or table out of the main walking path. We started with the artichoke dip, which was huge and easily served four and could have fed 2-4 more people. It came in a bread bowl along with carrots, celery and hunks of fresh bread to dip it in. I ordered the definitive burger (angus beef, candied bacon, onion straws and blue cheese) and was pleased that you can get it cooked to order. I decided to upgrade from French fries to tater tots as they are covered in truffle oil and Parmesan cheese. The female server was a little pushy at first about ordering but was very attentive with filling water, asking if we wanted more beer/drinks and was decent overall. Service was disappointing at best, when offered a dinner deal w/a beer I mentioned I don't drink beer, how about a house wine- no they couldn't accommodate. When mentioning we saw an ad for $5 Sangria, no they couldn't accommodate. We ordered the chicken pot pie which was the special of the night, and the fish & chips. The pot pie was nothing more than a weak chicken soup with a pathetic biscuit on top and the Gordon's fish sticks ( a ridiculous small 3) were embarrassing! Don't waste your time and money! I looked forward to experiencing Bully Ranch for 2 long weeks and when the time finally arrived I was not disappointed. The staff there are SUPER friendly, engaged, and helpful. The restaurant itself is very cozy and charming. The cocktails and hot beverages are made to perfection. The food.... Lord have mercy. It's good. We started with artichoke dip and the Bavarian pretzel for appetizers. I don't know what they put in that artichoke dip but it was so f-cking delicious I wanted to shout about it. The pretzel was awesome and the dipping sauces all hit the spot. We also got a small cup of the tomato basil soup which was wonderfully creamy and savory. Our table enjoyed a maple bacon Manhattan, a blueberry thyme old fashioned, a mudslide, and some Henricks Chills. I highly recommend the Henricks Chill - light and refreshing! I had the Definitive Burger (smoked cheddar in place of bleu cheese) with truffle tots, my husband had the Bully Bourbon Burger, and my friends had shrimp tacos and fajitas. Everything was DELICIOUS. The tots are addicting. Perfectly fried. The burgers were flavorful and hearty. My only complaint is we both ordered medium and they came out clearly well-done, but everything else about our entire experience was so overwhelmingly positive that I can't even complain that much. :-) We will be back without a doubt, and highly recommend this place if you're in the Vail village! read more
