For reference my 5 star experience was in the gondola. Highly recommend doing this though while in Vail! Definitely felt like I was back in a Switzerland ski town! The gondola is cool because we had our own speak to play whatever we pleased! It felt very private and intimate which I really enjoyed. I loved the decor throughout the restaurant and our gondola had cute little touches as well. For example they had a coo coo clock that when off every hour. For drinks I tried their feuerzangenbowle and the muled wine. My husband got a Hugo spritz and jagertee. I loved my drinks the feuerzangenbowle uses flambé which was so cool!, it's pretty similar to the muled wine. Muled wine is always a favorite of mine when the weather gets cold! Our server was awesome and super attentive. He answered any questions we had and was very friendly. The gondolas have a set menu we ended up ordering more that was on the set menu since I wanted fondue and my husband wanted the raclette. We added on a fondue, ordered the raclette that came on our fixed menu and added on steak, along with the pretzel that comes as an appetizer. The food was really good, I think it is also just so cozy and suiting for the cold weather! Fondue and raclette are also just such a fun way to dine! Server Diego was great! Kind of tight seating on the patio but we loved it. Alpenrose Pilsner in the big mug was perfect for our meal. The feuerzangenbowle is a fun, warm drink with mulled wine and they will light the rum-soaked sugar cube. Slightly limited on options if you don't eat pork but you will find something like the salad with chicken schnitzel to get your schnitzel fix. The spätzle that came with the pork schnitzel was amazing. This was possibly my favorite restaurant during our recent visit to Vail and Breckenridge! I think I tried to go here last time I was in Vail, but they were booked. Anyway, they specialized in German foods...with this cute, cozy German decor to match. We shared 3 items...Chili Con Carne, this delicious chili soup, which came with 2 pieces of bread; 2 pieces of Rosti, something close to small, meat & veggie-filled pancakes; and their signature item, this Schnitzel "Rockies & Roses", which came with Spatzle. Seems like we look for these types of places in our ski trips, and this joint looked the part. Promptly seated at a nice table in the quaint and authentically decorated chalet dining room and opted for a German imported brew, which I liked and had several others too! Pretzel was a bit dough-ey for my liking but the cheese & mustard were nice compliments. Schnitzel was large with a crusty coating that held up to the condiments. Couldn't choose from all the desert options so we went with a couple... there was a berry torte that was a bit dry and lacked sweetness. I love a cute experience, and alpenrose vail delivered! Our server was so adorable and accommodating. We did the cheese fondue option and added steak. The meat was super fresh and tender. Nothing comes preseasoned so we did ask for salt and pepper to doctor it up as much as possible. But overall we enjoyed. I always make sure to order pretzel whenever a restaurant offers it. So far, NBC restaurant in Universal City Walk is one of top 3 that makes good pretzel. Alpenrose isn't too bad. It is a pity that they charge $4 each for dipping sauce. I would've not minded if it was $2 but $4? The place has ample seating and fairly spacious. Didn't order Winter Curry, I had a bit of it from friend's - it was unique taste. It's seriously putting the German food to shame where I live (and I thought we had some pretty good options!) We had the: *TRÜFFEL BRATWURST (Pair of delicious Truffle Bratwurst with red cabbage, mashed potatoes and mustard) - Delicious! Great flavor but not overpowering (like how truffle oil can sometimes be!) The German flair is prevalent throughout Vail but it especially rules at the Alpenrose. Being German, I am very particular about all things Bavarian. I decided on the Gulasch with Spaetzle for dinner. Aside from the expense of the meal, the experience did not disappoint. The food was good, the Radler delish, and service, supreme. Our waiter, Hannes, hailed from Austria so he was able to converse with us and to help my aunt feel comfortable. He was so much fun! Our meals arrived quickly too! Indoor seating is slim pickings but their patio works perfect for this time of year. Restrooms are in the basement and may present a slight challenge for those with mobility issues. Very alive space with German/Austrian feel without being hokey. The staff wear traditional German attire which adds to the overall atmosphere. The large menu gives you a chance to try "the usuals" but also presents some items that may not be as familiar. There is a small selection of German beers on tap as well as some glasses/bottles of various wines. We enjoyed the Schnitzel as well as the Octoberfest Hax'n, which was a gigantic Pork Shank. We added Potatoes Rosti, Red Cabbage and Sauerkraut as sides. Both portions were delicious as well as humongous - either one being enough for 2 people. For food, I ordered the schnitzel. The schnitzel itself was good, and I loved that it came with a creamy sauce and lingonberries, which were delicious. The spätzle on the side wasn't my favorite. We absolutely loved this quaint little restaurant. It felt like we were in a fairytale sitting outside. Lights and flowers are streamed everywhere, oil burning lamps at the table, and hand net pillows sitting on the back of the benches. This is definitely a place where you wanna sit back and relax and enjoy your food and drink with friends and family. The best thing about this place is the ambiance. It's nicely decorated and has that winter in a cabin in the Alps feel. There's no bad seats if you sit inside or outside in the patio (it's enclosed in the winter w/ heaters). Food is decent/good but nothing to write home about. We got some pretzel with sausage and coq au vin last time. The portions are generous. Now, service could be better. Last time I went, my reservation was at 7:15 but they texted me 30 minutes early to say my table is ready and to make sure I was coming. Then they rushed my table through dinner service in one hour. They didn't even ask us if we wanted to order anything else before just bringing the check to us. There are much better places in Vail but this place could be a good lunch place. read more

Time to ham it up literally! This is a great little fun German restaurant that's good for couples wanting a whimsical date to families with large parties to folks just looking to have a good time in the beer garden. Fine dining this is not but the food is real good. Atmosphere/ambience: legit Alps feel head to toe including attire. Lots of advertisements and souvenirs from the region. It has a really nice front deck that gets quite sunny and has a lot of chairs and tables though somewhat compact and close to each other. The very back biergarten is nice and shaded on hot days and actually feels like a beer garden with a few long tables. Inside there's not too many seats comparatively. Service: there's a lot of different waiters and waitresses here constantly checking on you. Our water was constantly filled, and they easily bared out some ice when we asked for it during the summer heat. They remove plates and check in on how the food is doing. They were happy to be flexible with a couple of different tasks for a young kids. Very attentive and accommodating. Food and drink: a few great options of small, large or extra large smokes of great regional beers. Lots of specialty cocktails, liquors, and other nonalcoholic drinks. The menu has a lot of different options for adults and kids alike. The cheese fondue here is very nice. Well it's not a huge fondue pot. It stays warm for the most part and I highly recommend getting the cornichon and onions as well as the dried apples and fruit sides. The pretzels phone and comes out deer horn platter. Careful with appetizers entrées here as you could easily over order. The schnitzel bratwurst and spatzel are all really great dishes. The watermelon salad is quite large and refreshing. The gazpacho is a very nice treat as well. I recommend getting the spatzel entrée, not the side as the full entrée was baked and a lot more moist than our side was. Though the menu states that it's worth emphasizing that the chicken side is chicken thighs and breaded. Well, it doesn't appear to be deep-fried. It's at least baked and pretty heavy. But then again everything on the menu is fairly heavy and you should be prepared for a nap afterwards. Price: very reasonable for Vail village, a cheaper option than some other neighboring restaurants and great portions for the price. Overall a lovely memorable and fun experience. Customer service here was great! We came here for a bachelorette and did the gondola experience. In my opinion this was NOT worth the $70. You get meat sausages and two different cheeses along with veggies. Maybe my idea of fondue is different because this was more like Korean BBQ cause you cook everything yourself and you melt the cheese under the pot. Lunch. I really enjoyed my food. Service was quick and our server came back several times to check on us. Very welcoming place. The pretzel tasted like it was thawed from being frozen and their homemade glacier water tasted like straight up Powerade, but my main was fantastic - summer curry, which gave a very pleasant aroma of ginger. The potato pancakes and fresh cream were actually my favorite part. We wish the schnitzel came as chicken instead of pork but the lingonberry sauce and gravy really made it. We sat outside overlooking the mountains with fresh flowers both at our table and hanging in pots overhead. I wish i had room for dessert. I've come to Alpenrose twice before and this time I chose to book the gondola prix fixe fondue. Upon booking, I was worried we might leave hungry, but boy was I wrong! First, the service was incredible, Manuel H showed us an incredible time and we felt very attended to. Felt like my birthday was a very special time with good friends here and great food. We left full and really had a memorable time here. Would highly recommend, love that we could also play our own music on the gondola Bluetooth speaker. I would rate this less. it has such good reviews I was so excited it's Father's Day etc ... but we we made a reservation in advance and was sat in a seat for honestly no humans of any size it was a table made to fit between a post and another table the waiters couldn't even bring us our food properly ranch was spilled all over my sons sweatshirt we are visiting no washing machine gross but I know it was an accident. regardless some accommodations to the bill or a free dessert something to knowledge the extremely uncomfrtable seating and the spill along with other things. just i reccomend other dining options no way was this worth $40 per person. some customer service should happen when there are accidents or tables they shouldn't even offer to anyone just say no we have no space. we should have left. the people were kind but no customer service for the prices. read more

We were in Vail for a bluegrass show, which only sold one crappy beer and it was a lager (Montucky). So we went to this place which was very cool and had some good German beers. We also got the giant pretzel; loved the mustard but the cheese dip was pretty bland. Here are some pics. Alpenrose is a really nice little place to grab lunch or dinner while in Vail. The decor is very charming, with ski lift chairs and little hearts cutout into the wood all over. It's cozy and warm - the perfect place to come in from the cold for some hearty food. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and love the German / Swiss influence of the menu. One thing that immediately caught my eye was the Rösti balls. I had Rösti in Switzerland and loved it so this was a nice little treat; a different spin on an old classic. They were crunchy, gooey, and packed with good flavor. The bratwurst were very also good, super juicy, and a good portion size. I really enjoyed the huge pretzel and the mustard and cheese sauce were both incredibly good. Our table also had the fondue although I didn't try it myself. They liked it. The food came out crazy quick and we were in and out under an hour. Vail prices are high in general so ordering just a few bites came with a big price tag, but the quality was up there so it's less of a hard pill to swallow. The Pork Shank was outstanding. This would be a great place for a first or any date, for an anniversary, for family, friends- anyone. The service was very friendly, and the views were outstanding.
