September 7, 2024 We were at the Old Sugar Mill for an event, and we were trying to decide which tasting room to visit for our second and final tasting of the day. There are 14 wineries represented here, so the choices are many. How to decide???We walked by Bump City Wine Co. That name triggered a memory and a flash to the past had me singing..."Down to the Nightclub (We go bump-ty, bump-ty, bump, Bump City!" Tower of Power, oh yeah! Decision made, and in we went. We were greeted and seated immediately, even though they were a bit busy. Jane, our server, was a delight, and proceeded to entertain us with bits of info about the winery and wines, and a few interesting notes about Tower of Power, including that Roger Smith, keyboardist for Tower of Power, is the co-owner of Bump City Wine Co. We tasted 5 wines for $15, and we each chose a bottle to buy to waive the tasting fee (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir). Good wines, good prices, and fun tasting room with a bit of Tower of Power memorabilia.

Bump City Winery, Clarksburg , CA - September 7, 2024 Bump City Winery is a nice venue for wine tasting. They have a nice long bar as well as a spacious seating area with many tables. The tasting is $15 per person for six wines. Tasting fee is waived with a purchase of a bottle. Our server's name was Jane. It was a delight to have her as our server. She shared lots of stories about the winery. One of the owners is the keyboardist for the musical group Tower of Power. One of the songs Tower of Power did was called Bump City, and that's how the winery got its name. Wines were tasty and reasonably priced in the $25-$55 price range. We got a bottle of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

Joined my sisters group to celebrate hers and her friends birthday at the Old Sugar Mill! We started off with reservations at a different winery at the mill and the lady pouring for us highly recommended Bump City because she thought it would match our vibe. Well I have to say that she was absolutely correct! We didn't have reservations as a party of 6 but they had room for us and we were led to a large circular table right away. Someone came over immediately with the tasting menu and got us going. The man who was pouring for us was absolutely wonderful and he totally made the whole experience! He taught us so much about Bump City history with each pour and he was incredibly personable! All the wines we tasted were really good and the service was supreme! Will definitely return!

Cute little winery in Old Sugar Mill! We left with a bottle of dessert wine for Thanksgiving (Gewürtztraminer). Definitely a must in Clarksburg!

So.Much.FUN! "Thank You, Judy!" SITREP My gawd, if you're looking for an event space, look no further than the large room where you will find Bump City inside the Old Sugar Mill! Here you can combine absolutely fabulous wine-tasting along with fun hijinx with the bumpin' staff, such as star wine-docent Judy! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bump-city-wine-co-clarksburg?select=Ki5088-9_bz-a7uEeN0BOg THE SETUP And what a great wine stop in Clarksburg too! Our work-crew came to the Old Sugar Mill as part of a team-building excursion (since we got tired of work meetings during the week and we decided we needed to PAR-TAY on the weekend together!). THE WINES! Judy did such a marvelous job setting us up around one of the heated kiosks with the uber-cool tables. Among our taste-treats! * 2016 Pinot Grigio, from the Summer Coast - light & crisp!; * 2015 Chardonnay, 100% French Oak Barrel Aged - full bodied white * 2015 Pinot Noir, a new red release and so tasty! * 2015 (Old Vine) Zinfandel, from Lodi; and, * 2014 Bump City Red, a creative Bordeaux-inspired table wine blended with four (4) reds (Tempranillo, Merlot and 2 Cabs) The wine was extremely accessible to our palates, without being overburdened by too much complexity. The large wine glasses made it extra *clinky*-fun! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bump-city-wine-co-clarksburg?select=HKXpvrFDkuV2Qc6IbOc0gg And the wines were very reasonably priced, ranging between $22 and $30 on average (much lower than their neighbors in nearby spaces at The Old Sugar Mill). SPACE! The beautiful room is very high ceiling and lends itself perfectly to throw big parties or receptions, such as the wedding reception they hosted here recently. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bump-city-wine-co-clarksburg?select=y2L-dbpVErATxgQbA8we2w Whether a set-up for a tables & chairs, or of vendors' food tables with lots of mixing, Bump City has got the space metrics you need for that big party! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/bump-city-wine-co-clarksburg?select=KluVAMxT4QCROZlPHPjSWA THE LOWDOWN A fantastic space with fantastic wines!

We love the vibe here -- Old Sugar Mill is a happening place & Roger Smith (Tower of Power fame) is here!! Members since 2016 -- great reds & very hospitable

Couldn't choose which was our favorite!

Thank you Bump City, Roger, and friends! We had a wonderful visit swinging by Clarksberg and seeing the old sugar beet factory restored to an incredible wine tasting venue. We loved wine tasting and Bump City was the highlight of our stop! Old fashioned hospitality and great tasting wine! Will definitely be back!

Autographed Bump City Red!!! Thanks Roger!!

Shoutout to the West Sacramento/ Clarksburg area…read more... The Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg is a historic beet sugar refinery from 1934-1993 that has wine shops and tasting rooms for local wineries. They have over a dozen wineries. Wine tastings average $15 and most wineries waive the fee if you buy a bottle. They have wine shops in the main building and in the other building. Don't forget to walk back and to the right to the shops in the separate back building, there is 3-4 more wineries. Each winery are literal walled shops with their own seating areas. Temperature controlled which is nice on hot summer days. Each have their own wine tasting, food offerings, and special events. Old Sugar Mill is less than 15 minute drive from downtown Sacramento. The buildings are beautiful. They kept the historic brick walls and exterior. It has a modern shabby chic look. Three different brands owned the refinery. It all began in 1934 with Amalgamated, American Crystal Sugar Factory (1936-1982), and Delta Sugar (1983-1993). The sugar was refined by local Northern Californian grown beets. The buildings was renovated in 2000 for its current use. Awesome concept and beautiful architecture design. They also host weddings and events. They have a banquet room with slideshow equipment. There is also an outdoor lawn and adjoining paved patio area that is shaded in the afternoon by the buildings that would make for a gorgeous wedding venue. On hot summer days, the Delta breeze kicks in for instant cool down. No outside food are picnics are allowed. On the weekends, they have food trucks. Plus the majority of the wineries sell food (appetizers) as well. Also no pets are allowed (excluding service animals). The restrooms are located right by the front entrance.

I loved chocolate and my husband is always up to trying another port. Parking- They have a private lot and we were able to easily find a parking spot right in-front of the entrance. Bathrooms- They have many stalls in the bathroom located to the left of the entrance. Temperature- It's cool inside, a little too cool for us today. It was 63 degrees out today and warm in the sun. I bet in the sweltering heat of our summers this is the perfect place to be. The Sugar Mill is an indoor venue. They have three different building with different wineries at this time. So, there is a little walking outside. Wine Barrels- You can buy half wine barrels for your garden for sale. Seating- They have lots of little seating areas. Inside they have a whole room with seating and nice decor. The tables are draped in white table cloths and there are stacks of wine barrels as the back drop. They have a palm court in the back and it's so quaint and beautiful. Perfect for sipping some wine slowly and chit chatting with friends. If you are looking to sit in the sun there is are a set of tables and chairs out back near the food truck. Ambiance- I love the location and building. It's an old Sugar Mill that produced sugar from sugar beets. That industry has now ended and it's now a place to visit many wineries. It's the only place that I know of that have numerous wineries and offer wine tasing for a minimum fee.

So attentive, quick to answer questions and always accommodating of any last-minute requests. They really have such a well-oiled team and their amazing list of preferred vendors made the entire process seamless. We were married on a Friday which meant we had the wonderful bonus of hosting our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner at Scribner the night before. It was such a fun, easy experience and set the tone for the big day. Paesanos, their in-house caterer was fantastic (separate review) and they provided us with delicious wood-fired pizzas and two salads for our rehearsal dinner. All of our guests were raving about how good it was!! On our wedding day, we had access to the Bungalow for getting ready and wow!! it is such a beautiful, charming space. My bridesmaids and I loved spending the morning there. It has two make up stations that had great natural lighting and is great for making tiktoks! The guys had the Airstream, which was really unique and fun, though on our 100-degree wedding day it was a bit stuffy since the AC couldn't quite keep up (which is understandable for an Airstream!). Still, it was a cool and memorable space for them to get ready in. I cannot rave about Scribner Bend enough. The grounds are gorgeous, the staff is phenomenal and they truly helped create the most magical and smooth wedding day for us. I'd highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a romantic, beautiful and well-supported place to say I do!!!!

But we had never been to the Bogle Family Ranch and Vineyards outside of Clarksburg, CA. We finally reserved a couple of hours to visit the winery - and can't say enough good things! We enjoyed several, terrific wines not available in our local stores - such as their delicious Sparkling Rose! But more importantly, experienced a lovely afternoon on the BEAUTIFUL Bogle Family Ranch grounds! Everything around us was green and gorgeous; with cool breezes due to the surrounding water of the Sacramento River. The picnic tables were warm and inviting. The snacks were great (we brought a picnic lunch). And EVERY employee with which we spoke was excited to educate and inspire us - taking great pride in Bogle Family's six generations of Delta farming; sincere commitment to sustainability and the community; and vision of how the family plans to continue the winery's growth and international expansion, while maintaining its commitment to winemaking excellence. Every staff member that we met had been Bogle employees for over 10 years at least (a couple over 30!). I think it really says a lot about a company and family when their employees promote and compliment - even when the bosses are not in the room! While we had originally planned just a one-time visit to the Bogle vineyards, we left as Bogle Family Wine Club Members. The wine and property are lovely -- unfortunately the welcome at the door felt like an audition for "Most Judgmental Winery Greeter." When we walked in, the woman at the front greeted us with a slow head-to-toe scan before even saying hello. For context, we weren't exactly stumbling in from a river float -- Patagonia, designer black jeans, nice casual wine-country attire. My partner was dressed similarly. Completely normal for a winery visit. Since it was my first time there, I asked where we should go. She informed us -- while continuing the visual inspection -- that upstairs was reserved for more formally dressed guests with reservations. The upstairs area, by the way, was completely empty. She then told us we could "go help ourselves around the corner." The tone was less "welcome to wine country" and more "you appear to be beneath the staircase." Honestly, I've been to plenty of wineries, from casual tasting rooms to higher-end spots, and I've never been greeted with that level of instant judgment. It was oddly hostile for a place that literally sells a beverage meant for relaxing. The ironic part is that after getting past that moment, the rest of the experience was actually nice. The wine was good, the grounds are pretty, and the other staff we interacted with were perfectly pleasant. But that initial interaction? Brutal. If first impressions matter (and they do in hospitality), someone might want to let the front door know that sizing people up like a nightclub bouncer at 1am isn't exactly the warm, welcoming winery vibe most people are hoping for. Great wine. Beautiful place. One spectacularly toxic greeting.

Chad was a great host and very knowledgeable about all of the wines that he poured for us and we got to sample several of them off the list! I would absolutely come back and visit again after the great experience I had with my friend.
