By far my favorite wine! Inside the old sugar mill. They have a lovely selection of reds. You get service by the family witch is very cool, they are all very nice people . They tell you a bit about the wine. Very friendly. Yes the wine is a bit expensive but worth every penny. Love coming here! I'm glad my sister is a wine club member.

Very Askew Customer Service Metrics SITREP As part of a work-crew weekend excursion, the eight (8) of us headed down to Clarksburg because we heard there was some good wine-tasting to be had there. So this is where we found Todd Taylor Wines, inside the Old Sugar Mill complex in Clarksburg, CA. THE SETUP Our apparent FIRST mistake: = Our group of eight (8) wandered in from the main Old Sugar Mill hallway to the expansive interior counters of Todd Taylor - which weren't busy, by the way. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/todd-taylor-wines-clarksburg?select=v6zqLjvxYvmAiJS_Q-s3aw = However, apparently we committed some prime-directive "faux paux" since this entire interior was considered to be for their Todd Taylor "Club Members ONLY." = My work colleague Charles did make the point that we were the only people at the counter (and practically in the entire room!), and most likely after a tasting we'd buy some bottles (which we did at all the OTHER wineries, BTW). https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/todd-taylor-wines-clarksburg?select=axiabQhYkU3slYTpzHX8KA Nope. Nada. No dice. - we were ejected from room and told to go back to their outer hallway counter (which was quite crowded). GUT-REACTION: so tell me what your honest reaction to a situation would be where you COULD have been served by ONE of SEVERAL individuals standing around, not currently attending to anyone else, but they merely chose NOT TO because they were engaged in their own bit of profiling us, because we were obviously not "Wine Club Members": = But can we at least receive a modicum of customer service? = Are we an "inconvenience"? = Afterall, we took time out of our day to visit your winery. = Honestly, does that sound like a group of people that want your business? THE WINES In spite of above wine club ice-breaker - and a tasting-wait - there still were a couple reds that impressed me: * Props for their Blue House Primitivo, and at $30, was probably the most affordable wine of the group; * But I must say that I also enjoyed their Pinot Noir since it was not too tart, nor too sweet like other vintner's options I tried at Old Sugar Mill. Back to the snobbiness.... SPACE & PHYSICAL PLANT You can't get past the fact that "regular" wine-tasting is relegated to the smaller out-in-the-hallway counter, whereas the entire interior space inside their wine-room is dedicated to their "Wine Club"-members. [I also chew out both Heringer Estates and Elevation Ten on this same issue, but at least we weren't cast out into the hallway - those wineries at least had (crowded) interior counters we were still able to access more indepth tastings at with staff, and which is why they still garner 3-Star reviews in contrast here.] So to expand further on this issue, let's talk about this particular ill-thought out manisfestation of... WINE CLUB MEMBERSHIP Thus my sincere question at this point, "Hey guys, I'm merely passing thru town & thinking about buying some wine to take back home, but can I NOT be treated like a 2nd class wine-citizen just because I refuse to get sucked into an expensive year-long-wine-club-membership with monthly repeating charges on my credit card?" I GUESS NOT. So if stratification of the "classes" & "wine-snobbery" is your thing, then have at it: Todd Taylor - like Heringer Estates and Elevation Ten - are your dealio here. And as result, we'll be taking our visiting colleagues on treks to local breweries & distilleries instead, where they don't mind getting business from the "dirty unwashed masses.". LESSON: "Wine-Club-Snobbery" turns off MANY potential customers & it's a two-edged sword: (A) As mechanism for discounted bulk purchases & shipping, it's great; (B) But as an excuse to deny customers "access" - via their space-bifurcation of the taste room(s) between regular customers and their club-members - NO BUENO. THE LOWDOWN An OK wine-tasting experience could possibly be had here at Todd Taylor - just expect some wine-club bullshit that keeps you in the hallway, and NOT in the their main interior tasting-room.

Cab Franc in a nice net to go bag.

Our corvette club did a run to the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg. We haven't been there in years and we were pleasantly surprised to see all the wonderful wineries. We choose to try Todd Taylor wines because they had a good reputation for high quality reds. We were greeted by a Todd himself who poured us samples and shared the stories about each varietal. Cab Franc was my favorite. Others in our group bought the Zinfandels. All very good. I might consider joining their club

$5 for choice of 5 wines off their list.

I was happy to find that I caught them on a day they were open as they were closed on my last visit to the Old Sugar Mill. Regretfully, I didn't experience the same nice-and-attentive, passionate service others wrote about -- maybe it was just too busy. I left with their 2013 Cabernet Hagen Heights, $40.

I'm not normally a fan of smooth, drinkable wines (I like big, acidic, puckery stuff), but Todd's wines pack a lot of flavor into a very easy to drink glass of wine. He explained to us that this is because he travels around the state, finding grapes that will make wines ready to drink now. It's nice to find wines that I can drink with my friends who aren't as into tannin and acid. These would make great picnic or backyard party sipping wines. We left with a bottle of the Syrah, and intentions of coming back once the Primitivo we tasted in the barrel is ready.

And it is a source of great pride to find our local, Greater Sacramento-Delta Bogle wines when we travel outside of California or USA. In fact, we were thrilled to enjoy a bottle in Shanghai, China! But we had never been to the Bogle Family Ranch and Vineyards outside of Clarksburg, CA. We finally reserved a couple of hours to visit the winery - and can't say enough good things! We enjoyed several, terrific wines not available in our local stores - such as their delicious Sparkling Rose! But more importantly, experienced a lovely afternoon on the BEAUTIFUL Bogle Family Ranch grounds! Everything around us was green and gorgeous; with cool breezes due to the surrounding water of the Sacramento River. The picnic tables were warm and inviting. The snacks were great (we brought a picnic lunch). And EVERY employee with which we spoke was excited to educate and inspire us - taking great pride in Bogle Family's six generations of Delta farming; sincere commitment to sustainability and the community; and vision of how the family plans to continue the winery's growth and international expansion, while maintaining its commitment to winemaking excellence. Every staff member that we met had been Bogle employees for over 10 years at least (a couple over 30!). I think it really says a lot about a company and family when their employees promote and compliment - even when the bosses are not in the room! While we had originally planned just a one-time visit to the Bogle vineyards, we left as Bogle Family Wine Club Members.
