I enjoyed the 90s music playing inside and all our food was well plated, which kicked up the pub/grill fare a bit. Nice bar. There are two areas inside - the bar area of course and there's another partition for dining in. We sat at the bar (in which you can eat as well). Now I won't pretend to be a beer connoisseur. Aside from 'cheap' beer, I'm more of a mixed drink guy. I don't know a thing about 'IPAs' or any of that. That being said, for those who do like beer, there are plenty of options in that regard. For those more like me with regular drinks, the bar had more than enough in selection. The lighting wasn't good, so I wasn't able to take menu snaps - but the menu had a good general selection. I went for the 'Thomas Jefferson' burger (w/ fries) and it was very tasty. I did see someone else order a Bavarian pretzel, so next time I'm here I'm going to have to try that. Really, the burger was so tasty I'd definitely try other things for sure. The bartenders were friendly, attentive, and frankly real good. The staff in general were all good. There were several TV's showing an assortment of things. This place shares the space with other businesses and there is a lot to park. The lot is a little smaller side, but you should be able to find a spot. The food and drinks were good but the atmosphere was awful. We were seated at a hightop by the bar area but a group of dance moms were so boisterous that we moved to a table in the dining room. We'll 5 minutes later that same group collected their children and descended on the dining room like a tornado. Totally out of control, for a solid half hour. Then they calmed down when food arrived but by then the mother's were even louder than earlier and behavior that was inappropriate. The staff didn't care or even seem to notice. One Mother hip checked one kid who fell and banged his head. Another mother bumped into the table and all the glasses fell and broke. Met friends for dinner and was happy to see they have an Oktoberfest menu! One friend and I each had the chicken schnitzelwich and we split a side of potato pancakes and apple sauce. Delicious! My other friend had the Oktoberfest burger which had a potato pancake on it (among other things)! She loved it. Our server was very friendly and made great recommendations regarding beverages. I went on a Friday night to hear some live music- that night was great. I was on Monday for a psychic dinner. It required reservations- so the staff should have known how many people were going. The menu was limited to a salad appetizer and a choice of a burger, chicken sandwich, or chicken wrap. Being they knew how many people they were expecting- you would think they would have the salads ready for people to start with - being there was only one type of salad offered. Instead we were served our burgers- plain burger, and fries. No lettuce, tomato, onions...we had to ask for that. By the time the server brought it our burgers were cold. The salad was finally brought after we had eaten our meal. A Cobb salad- basically a bowl of lettuce, some blue cheese crumble and grilled chicken breast and a whole hard boiled egg. That is NOT a Cobb salad. Needless to say- I will not be dining there again read more

Servers were younger people but all we're on their game and respectful. Music selection was a lot of country, which isn't my style but it was ok. I honestly don't know how this place is still open. it's always empty inside. the service is so slow. its a nicely renovated bar and restaurant but food and drinks are always inconsistent. anytime I order something they have an ingredient missing from the item due to not having it in the kitchen. read more

We had a business meeting in Wantagh, NY and had time for lunch. The choices were many, and incidentally we ended up at a place called Bunker Hill American Taproom (https://www.bunkerhillny.com/). It's on Wantagh Avenue, just north of route 27, on the left-hand side (going north). We peered through the entrance, not knowing what it was like inside, and found a posting proclaiming "Burger & Drink for $10". Ok then, we thought; "That sounds very reasonable deal - far better than the McDonalds, next door :)" We entered and found a very cool bar atmosphere. There were folks at the bar, large TV screens, and a nice sized dining area. I said to my wife; "This is a place I can see myself hanging out in." Mike greeted us and instructed us to pick any spot in the dining area, which we did. There were others having lunch, so we quickly felt at home. Mike followed us to our table and gave us the menu. Wow - They have quite a selection... mainly bar food, but a lot of variety, with some fine twists. I asked Mike about the place, asking; "What went on in the evenings and weekends? (it looked like fun)" He informed it was a popular place, with live music, and an extensive selection of beers on-tap... and he boasted with pride - great food. (And they have specials - see photo!) We told him we were in a bit of rush and wanted the Burger special. Within a short time, our amazing meal arrived! Not only was the burger meat perfectly cooked - and thick! - but I always note (and appreciate) when a restaurant takes care in selecting the bun for a burger - It was thick, with a bit of a crunch. The whole thing spoke of pride and the taste was incredible. I elected to have a salad, instead of fries, but my wife took the fries and said they were great. A mixed review here. First, the place looks great! There's a dining area in addition to a large bar. We found 2 seats at the bar and jumped into a couple of cold ones from the long list of beer offerings. Our bartender was friendly, and kept the brews coming - even buying back the 3rd round... thank you! The appetizer list is very tempting. We settled on the "Tot-chos," and they rocked! Tater tots with bacon, cheddar, sour cream and scallions, Outstanding. Pretty much everything you want in bar food! We we a bit disappointed with our entrees. The Mrs ordered fried chicken on a biscuit. She said the chicken was good, but the biscuit was too large and dry. I got a cheddar burger. It was cooked well, but just wasn't the juice running down you arm treat I love in a great burger. Maybe the meat mix was very lean? Additionally, the brioche bun was a bit too large, so the burger seemed "bready." The fries with both sandwiches were great. Will we come back? Probably! read more

This review is based on memory, usually I write a review a day or two later but I am been getting lazy this year. This is the first time I have been to Bunker Hill American Taproom since its changed over and since I am a resident of Wantagh, this place has come a long way compared to what it's been the last 10 to 15 years. As stated in previous posts, it is a great place to come for a burger and a drink. It is rather small so if it gets busy on the weekends you may not get a table. Came here last night with a party of 12. It was mayhem in a good way. We sat, ate and enjoyed company. After grazing on all the traditionals (pretzel with beer cheese was PERFECT, wings were 'ok', crab cakes were good, Brussels sprouts were really good), we migrated over to the bar area. I went on to the cucumber salad which was really good, dressing on side was too vinegar-y. Most of the table moved on to burgers or sandwiches. Burgers are on brioche, steak sandie was on ciabatta. Tater tots that I stole from my buddies plate were really good. Burgers looked fantastic, cooked perfectly, I already had my burger fill this week. Service was really good given how busy they were. Great tap beer, I had a few fantastic Troegs, think it was nugget nectar, served in a pint glass (glad I wasn't driving). The place is a recently combined two storefronts. Started with the Bavarian (giant) pretzel with mustard and beer cheese; most people know that's my favorite thing. And let me tell you...WOW! Both my companion and I agreed that this thing is awesome. What a taste sensation. Likewise, I went on to have a fried chicken sandwich on a think large rectangular biscuit. Yeah, it was decadent and the chicken breast and biscuit are too big to put in your mouth (I opted to eat them with knife and fork). But this "sandwich" and pickles and delicious fries. Similarly, my friend's burger was lost in a massive brioche roll. This is a great new place for American pub food!! One small issue (and I never have this problem) is that the place was freezing! Rolled in here all dressed up with no where to go! Well, actually we just needed some post-wake snacks and beers. Bunker hill is conveniently located near Wantagh Abby, and the train station, of course! This recently redone corner spot (formerly an Irish bar) is wrought with beautiful woodwork and a lively Americana feel. Their tap menu hit the sweet spot of variety with both craft and normal brews. They had local offerings, stouts, IPAs and even a sour! One of my favorites, goose island sofie was on tap. The second night we went they were out of 3 beers on tap, with 2 of the being brews I wanted. Ah, bummer. We noshed on some typical bar appetizers to accompany our beers. Mozzarella sticks were very bready, and dry on the outside. Unsure of preparation but they did not satiate the craving. Quesadilla sticks were tasty -- the fruit and cheese board was cute and won't break the bank @ $12. Friendly bartenders and ample space to mingle. read more

Solid place to grab a burger and a beer. When we arrived on Friday it was pretty empty but by the time we left it had filled up. Tables are appropriately spaced apart. Staff was all wearing masks. They have a great craft beer list with a bunch of draft options to choose from. For food they are running with a smaller menu so we ordered a pretzel to start with. The pretzel was delicious and crispy and HUGE! For my entree I had the brie burger. It was cooked to perfection and was decadent that I had to cut it in half. They also have delicious sweet potato fries for $2 more. Overall really good place to check out when you're not in the mood for anything fancy. read more

Great new spot in wantagh!! Staff was awesome and many had familiar faces as most formally worked at other bars in the area. Sampled a few apps from the bar the other night which was great. Got the tot chos which was a nice tator tot nacho dish. Also got their buffalo wings, the sauce was awesome! Even though we just got apps the food came out quick and bartender was more then helpful. Drinks wise the bar offers a variety of tap and can beer on top of the normal fully stocked bar options. Atmosphere is cool and has picture's of George washington and the revolutionary war on the walla. As i said before staff was great even as they work threw the kinks of a new spot. Hidden Gem! Nice relaxed bar atmosphere. The food was excellent. We had the flatbread with brie, walnuts, honey and bacon and it was nice and crispy with a huge amount of flavor. Also had the steak tidbits sandwich. The steak was tender and didn't need any sauce. We had the side salad with the sandwich and tried the lemon vinegarette which is house made and a great flavor for summer. Waitstaff very friendly. We will be back! read more

I still can't believe the awful experience we just had a Bunker Hill. It started with a very long wait for anyone to acknowledge we were sitting at our table. No hellos, no drinks. When finally our waitress came over, we ordered both drinks and food. We waited twenty minutes until the waitress returned just to tell us that they were unable to make a Old Fashion and did we want to order something else. We did. This took another twenty minutes. In the meantime, the food runner came over to our table with our two burgers. One was correct, the other was not. Both returned to the kitchen. Finally our drinks arrived. We waited another 30 minutes before the food error was corrected. The food runner dropped of my burger and then brought my husband's burger to another patron thinking it was hers. It was not. It was returned. Again. There was no sense of urgency to bring out my husband's replacement burger. Other patrons who had sat after us had already received their food. I ate while he waited. In total we waited an hour for two burgers. I then requested a manager. The manager not only didn't rush to our table but after 10 minutes, we realized he didn't really care to talk to us. We requested the check. While waiting for my credit card to be returned, the restaurant was actually shushed so that the bartender could introduce the "band" that was there for live music. Seriously? We were then shushed a second time for a moment of silence for 9/11. It's 9/13. I could forgive that out of respect if the whole situation at this point was completely ridiculous. I mean, where is Jon Tapper when you need him? We were charged the full bill after this disaster and got up to leave. I cannot recommend staying far away from this place enough. Mistakes happen, I get it, but own up to them and pay attention to your customers. Poor management to be sure. read more

My daughter lives in Wantagh and picked the place, and we went for dinner. Beer n liquor selection was a 10. Cheese board is a must if you go. Tots app hat 1/4 of the toppings it should have. The main reason I was so disappointed there was my burger. No way it's 100% beef, seems like there's filler in there. The meat mixture was so over mixed so the burger was like a hockey puck. Seemed reheated and served to me WellDone, asked for rare. Also it was Tough n Dry. On a Saturday nigh, in a restaurant that features burgers, to allow this overcooked, dry, densely packed, not hot "hamburger" out of the kitchen just hurts, so wrong and upsetting. The french fries were hot. I am not going to travel from Oceanside to go back. But I would recommend, sitting at the bar, having a cheese plate and a glass of your favorite beer or whiskey. read more

My third visit to BHATR was on 6/2/18. Bartenders, tater tots and Brussels Sprouts continue to impress. Quality of meat on the steak sandwich was good. The bread fell apart like dry corn bread. Overall the sandwich was bland. Chicken BLT wrap was very good. 3.5 would be the ideal rating but I've again given BHATR the benefit of the doubt. July 2019: this place gets better each month. I highly highly highly recommend the Tijuana Tuesday tacos. Fresh ingredients and excellent quality. I'll be back every Tuesday until the snow arrives! read more

I was so excited to see a gastropub pop up in the area, and a nice one at that. Stopped by here on a Thursday night with my family, we were seated promptly and the staff was very attentive, they got us our drinks right away. The atmosphere was industrial Americana, loved it. We got the Brussels sprouts and the tot-chos for appetizers, which pleased the table. I ordered a cheeseburger, it was okay, not the best burger I ever had but the presentation was cute with a little American flag toothpick in the bun. They have a huge beer selection as well to please even the pickiest of beer snobs. Bathroom was spotless. And before we left some live music started. They did a great job making this place look great, good tap selection and spacious bar area. The dining experience is not as refined. Food was a 2.5, decor is a 4, but overall they get three stars in my book. I won't go into that much detail; however, overall the food was a dud, food took quite a while to come out even though the place was not that busy, and for a place open six weeks they still seem to not be wound too tight. Salad was gritty (sandy), with Asparagus either crunchy, or soggy. All the proteins in what we ordered were charred and dry (Slider Trio, Grilled Chicken Wrap, Burger). Crabcake wasn't bad, but was overpowered with various spices, and not lump. Fries were so over-salted the kids couldn't eat them, and I just cannot see those smoked rolled quesadilla things being made in house...just saying. Will give them credit for the onion and potato garlic soup though, dynamite. I don't think i'd go back for the food, but would stop back in possibly for some drinks and apps for a good game. read more

Went to dinner with My husband the other night and was not disappointed..we started with the oriental empanadas, and they came out hot and crispy... I had the raspberry burger that I had my curiosity peeked, and it was incredible..they have the most delicious truffle parmesan fries that truly are fried and not baked in an oven..no take homes here! Ha ha My husband had the George Washington burger, and he ate everything like it was his last meal.. They also have ice cold beer on tap which we enjoyed.... Great little bar/restaurant in Wantagh. Don't be fooled by its inside corner location in the non-descript shopping center it calls home. We almost pulled out because of that but what a mistake that would have been. This place just felt like we belonged there. The tap beer menu was plentiful. The drinks cold and crisp. Been here twice. First time was for apps and drinks just my husband and I. We enjoyed the meal, there was a large beer list and ambiance was okay. Fast forward a few weeks and we head over for dinner with the family, 4 and a baby. We walk into multiple tables available, awesome right. Wrong. Hostess tells us there will be a half hour wait. I'm not understanding why with so many open tables. She says they can't push tables together. Ok, I point out the table directly behind the hostess that has four chairs with room for a high chair and is available. No she can't sit us at that one. Oookayy. So we left. Lost customers. Bunker Hill has AMAZING BURGERS!! Now many places boast about a good burger. But trust me on this one. Firstly the burgers are THICK. These are about 1/2" thick. Also they are so juicy and tasty. Furthermore they have artisan buns that compliment the burger. I recommend you to also order the sweet potato fries. Husband and I tried this place for the very first time yesterday, and I'm glad! Good on him for suggesting it; since it's tucked into the corner of a strip mall, I didn't even know it was there! It's decorated like the average semi-upmarket pub/restaurant: Dark woods, subtle theming, clean, pleasant. Definitely not only a bar. We went for late lunch/early dinner, and it was quiet, but not deserted. The bartender greeted us immediately and offered our choice of tables. Our waitress was lovely - very friendly, very efficient. I was starved, so we began with the smoked chicken quesadilla rolls - six white flour tortillas (the 6" ones), filled with a mixture of shredded chicken in a slightly spicy sauce, rolled up, and deep fried. Not health food, but very tasty! I figured I should go with a a healthyish entree, so I went for the Trenton salad (added grilled chicken for $5.00), and was presented with a ginormous bowl of salad and and an entire grilled, sliced, well-seasoned chicken breast. Greens, shaved parm, good quality feta, and chopped asparagus, with a few ribbons of cucumber and a lovely (apparently lemon) vinaigrette: The dressing was yum (well-balanced and not overpowering). The cheeses/greens were of good quality, and the ribboned cukes added interest, though I found the length a bit unwieldy. I'm still deciding whether a $5.00 upcharge for (a very healthy portion of) admittedly very nice chicken was overreaching. They were excellent, 2 of us had Thomas Jefferson burgers, one of us had the George Washington burger. one with fries, one with truffle fries and one with tots. All were very good with the truffle fries being the favorite. One of us had the concord salad. It was Outstanding. Three minor complaints keep it from a 5 star rating. 1- the waitstaff was slow and not very attentive. 2- the blue point toasted lager was flat and sour but the other beers were spot on. 3- the place is way too noisy. read more

Great new place. I tried Bunker Hill for a late lunch and sat at the bar. Bartender was very attentive, good selection of beer, I think every style you'd want is represented here. From Ommegang Hennepin, a few different IPAs, a nice porter and stout on tap along with your standard lagers, plus bottle/can options and wine. Food is good. I had the steak tip sandwich cooked as I had asked for it, Parmesan fries were good. I came back twice with my better half, both times for a late lunch. Very good food! We ate here Saturday, January 23rd. The food was great. I ordered the steak tid bits, an order of Mac and cheese for my boys and my wife ordered the truffle burger which was very tasty. I think we had a newer waitress, my wife was given the wrong beer from tap. All and all, the restaurant was clean, very patriotic which we love and good to support a local small business!
