Came here for lunch. Wantagh Inn has a fantastic lunch menu. My aunt and I split a few items. For appetizers, I wasn't blown away. We had baked clams and calamari. I wasn't a fan of the calamari, it was very thin. For entrees, we had a burger and seafood pasta. Our server was very friendly, but working the entire busy dining room on her own. My aunt is a repeat customer and really likes this place, so I know she will be back. read more

Came here with a group of 10 for a birthday. The decor and atmosphere of the restaurant were very warm and inviting. A few of the dishes we tried were the French dip, shepherds pie (Monday special) and the jagerschnitzel. The food was very good. Everything was hot and very flavorful. My big and only critique would be the service. Our waitress was not very friendly and the service was extremely slow. We did not order apps and the food took a long time to come out. The cake was rushed out while presents were being opened which was just awkward. We had to wait half an hour for the check while our waitress was talking (had to ask the bus boy several times). Would consider doing take out or maybe eating at the bar, but wouldn't do another sit down dinner or party here. read more

Always a reliable spot. We needed a place for a party of 12 on St. Patrick's Day and called only an hour ahead--they were able to fit us in and seated us upstairs, which was really nice. Food was great with a special St. Patrick's menu. The chicken pot pie, corned beef sandwich, and jumbo pretzel were all excellent. Very affordable too. Great place for larger groups. read more

Stopped in for a pint after a concert at Mulcahy's. Did not order food but they pour one hell of a Guinness, especially when we ordered a half dozen pours. Service was great. Will absolutely recommend to anyone for a pre or post show drink and will definitely be back for dinner! read more

Recently went out to dinner at the Wantagh Inn and I must say we had a blast. I should start off with we were a group of 8 and I totally forgot to call prior to make reservations so we rolled the dice. The owner walked be around and showed me that he was packed in the dinning room BUT he was able to get us a hi top in the bar which for us was perfect!!! He could have just said no and turned us away but he made it work and we had a blast. Apps and dinner were great. I had the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken (one of the best grilled chicken I've had), wife had the wings she loved them, buddies of mine had the French dips but one had the tip off and got the London broil instead of sliced roast beef and another pal had the Jager schnitzel. The only negative the flatbread was said to taste like it was a frozen pizza...overall great experience, great time, and great vibe. read more

Nice Irish American old style bar, that is clean and noticeably looked after on details, from the drinks to the food to the racks behind the bar everything is clean, unlike normal old fashioned type bars/restaurants, staff is knowledgeable and friendly, bartenders are good at what they do and treat everyone appropriately from the shy quite to the loud and snooty u get what u deserve!! This has been a staple in the community for many years. Which is why I was so surprised that when I ordered a simple arugula salad with chicken that I was charged $20 for it and it came out with microwaved chicken that was inedible rubbery and tasted horrendous and literally a cup of arugula salad. Drinks are excellent however the food I would definitely stay away from. There are other places that serve excellent drinks AND excellent food. A quaint little Irish Tavern that has always been a staple for my family's large get togethers. The staff are always very accommodating and friendly. It has a very homey feel to it, and the meals always remind me of a dinner that mom would make for us, while still being affordable to boot. The portions are just right along with plenty of options to choose from (I highly recommend the price fixed menus they do for lunch if you get the chance). I've also had their shepherd's pie and the giant salted pretzel for an appetizer which were delicious. Parking in the back can be tight and the place is rather popular, but it is honestly worth the extra walk if you wind up parking on the side streets or the nearby train station lot. read more

Still reasonable pricing, great special menu nights (see website), burger night and steak night for example are just great for what they charge. Service exceptional, mary our waitress, old school, will anticipate what you might need, and bring it without asking. Each table has a water pitcher filled with enough ice, so you will never have to track down someone for a glass refill or extra ice. Bar area is always busy, and can be noisy on special game nights, but if you sit in the L area , you won't hear it. Decor is like a vintage restaurant from back in the day, always decorated to reflect the seasons or holidays, a nice touch. Four of us had a most delicious Oktoberfest dinner on a very Saturday evening. While the bar was bustling and loud, the dining room was very suitable for our dinner conversations. After giving our name to the hostess, we were soon greeted by a most charming older gentleman who graciously led my wife by her hand to our table and he then proceeded to place our jackets on the back of our chairs. Was in tonight and ordered some drinks with friends. One of mine arrived and I commented on the price (not complaining, I actually thought the price was pretty good). The bartender yelled over that the price would have been $2 cheaper if I had tipped for my other drinks on the night. I immediately called her out saying that I have tipped every drink (almost $20 total) to which she said the other bartender said I hadn't. I again told her that I had tipped every time. It was only after I looked at my friend and said I was done buying drinks and I threatened to take my latest tip back that she came up and said "oh I'm just busting balls". None of us took it as busting balls, with my friends saying they didn't think she was kidding either. Absolutely disgusting and insulting behavior for a bartender. Made me hate sitting there and never want to go back. And trust me, I won't. read more

Had a great time as we hosted a coworkers retirement party. It was nice group of about 40 upstairs in their private room. The service is amazing, the food, which was just appetizers, was ok. So I've read the reviews and was impressed and then my wife and I arrived for our 630 reservation. The house was packed but we got seated with 10 minutes and all I can say is WOW. The appetizers (Guinness muscles and chilli calamari) were excellent. The BBQ ribs and schnitzel special were mouth watering good. Perfectly cooked and dressed. The peanut butter cake was delicious and the service was 5 star. Last but not least, the owner greeting us and showed us to the table and is a true host in every sense of the word. Went to the Wantagh Inn for Christmas Eve dinner. We were seated in the tented extension off of the main building. Important to note that when reservations were made no mention of not sitting in the main building was mentioned. The heater for this area was not working when we arrived which meant that our chairs, plates and silverware were all freezing cold. We had to wear our coats for the first part of the dinner. The heat eventually kicked in but at this point we were already disgusted by the experience. When ordering off of the special menus they changed the chicken option which made some of our guest resort to ordering a different food option. Food was not served at the same time meaning our table ate their meals at different times. One steak was not cooked to order and had to be sent back to the kitchen. The manager walked around to ask how everything was going and when we mentioned that there was an issue he never returned back to the table. Overall a let down for an establishment that we use to frequent often. Will not be back and will not recommended for future holiday season. read more

Old school irish pub with great bartenders and the best Guinness in town!! After your first time here youll feel like family everytime after. Food is great bar food. My favorite is their shepard's pie. They also have great wings and cheese fries served with a side of spicy ranch. We decided to come here on a Friday night after hearing how fantastic their clambake is. This is definitely one place doing social distancing right. The outside area is large enough to easily be 6 feet apart from the next table. Each outdoor table has lights built into the umbrella, which is a nice touch. Service here is decent. Our food came out quickly and our drinks never went empty. I had the mango sangria was good but a little weak from all the ice. The clambake was delicious and full of food! I ate everything except the corn. Everything was fresh from the clams to the mussels to the lobster. Prices are fair for what you get. Pretty sure the clambake is only available on Fridays and it's $29 for a whopping amount of food. read more

This review is for in house catering. We had the room upstairs, pretty and clean. There is a restroom adjacent, so no need to go up and down the stairs. The wait staff were friendly, engaging and professional. There were four dishes offered , shepherds pie, roasted potatoes, penne ala vodka and chicken parm plus salad .The Shepherds Pie was very tasty. The roasted potatoes were bland . Penne Ala Vodka is never a good catering option- it was flavorless and mushy . The chicken parm was decent . I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 3 because having a tasty shepherds pie and great staff goes a long way. read more

Had an early dinner at the Wantagh Inn and we can highly recommend dining there. We were greeted upon entering and brought to a table. Our server was pleasant and we were offered menus and our beverage order taken. I have to say the French Onion Soup was excellent. Lots of melted cheese and a really excellent broth. One of us had Shrimps & Scallops in pasta with a creamy sauce, the other had Jagerschnitzel with Potato pancake and thin sliced fresh vegetables. Food was delicious, perfectly portioned.
