What could improve is communication. I booked and confirmed a massage online. I received a separate email from a person at the spa asking to arrive at a different time than what I had booked, to call or message to confirm. I replied back asking instead to reschedule. I left a vm as well. I received no responses. I realize they have a 12 hour cancellation policy and by the time I replied to their request to confirm their requested change, it was 9 plus hours out. But I believe they broke their contract and at the very least caused confusion by asking to change the time and for a separate confirmation of the appointment I had originally booked, received confirmation for online. No reply, no call back from this provider. So I didn't arrive for either appointment time. This cost me the spa credits for the session I didn't enjoy PLUS a cancellation fee greater than the cost of the spa credits wasted. I will not be attempting a rebook. I get a scammy feel from this place. Strange emails asking to confirm an already confirmed appointment? Trying to change the appointment, totally non responsive, then charging cancellation fees? I just had an amazing massage by June! This was my first time there but certainly not my last. I was so in need of a massage and hadn't had one for quite some time and tried my luck at the Banyan Tree Spa. Oh boy was I thrilled and happy. June was so thorough and did an excellent job. I like the contemplative nature of a massage and don't prefer to talk during it and June was very respectful and understood I preferred quiet. Bunya Tree Spa is my new go to spot for massages. Prior to coming, like another review had mentioned, I was a bit skeptical because I saw that the location of spa was located inside a house in a residential area. However, that concern quickly faded away when I entered the spa and saw how clean and professional the spa was. I was also immediately greeted by June who was very warm and welcoming. In regard to the massage itself, I absolutely loved every second of it. Rita applied the perfect amount of strength and time to address the tense areas of my body noted on the intake form. Additionally, Rita used her forearm and entire hand throughout the massage which I really appreciate (I mention this because many of the masseuses I've worked with at other spas use their elbows and lower palm to apply pressure, leaving me with more pain that I already came in with). My first time at Bunya... I usually get a deep tissue massage and June didn't disappoint. She made sure to ask throughout the therapy if the pressure was good adjusting as needed. I also like how she incorporated stretching . I believe that would be the Thai massage. I'm able to get that extra stretch that I otherwise wouldn't be able to accomplish by myself. What a special place. You are welcomed by a sweet little garden in front with flowers and windchimes. Once inside, you immediately feel at home (literally). Extra touches abound, like the warm footbath upon arrival when you are filling out the intake form. The massage room was very warm and smelled good. During the massage, each time I was moved to a different position, the masseuse put a warm compress on my back or under my neck. The amount of pressure was just right. Had a 60 minute deep tissue massage and it was fantastic. I didn't get the name of my masseuse but she was great. The studio is very clean and everyone there was very welcoming. When you arrive, they welcome you with a foot soak and a foot scrub which a lot of massage places around the Bay Area don't tend to do. It reminded me of the massage studios in Thailand where they also proceed a massage with a foot scrub. It's the extra little things that can make an experience from good to great. I received a 90 min Thai massage from June and it was wonderful. Before the session, I received a warm water foot bath and a pair of pants to wear during the massage. The pressure June provided was perfectly attuned to the tension in my body and muscles and I felt well cared for.
