Andreea is an amazing bodyworker. But that is an understatement. My body was out of alignment from accidents I have thad throughout my life, and it was causing pain. She has been slowly correcting that, and my stance and posture are coming back to the place where it should be. My body is slowly regaining the ease which it had when I was younger. My goodness, I'm almost speechless. I told Faith exactly what I needed and she delivered. I have been suffering with my Pudendal nerve which shoots right down your bottom. I needed somebody that would hear me and listen to exactly what I needed it was very personal because I had to have my glutes and the skin on my buttocks rubbed down and she did it and she made me feel very comfortable. Just thinking of this place puts me in deep relaxation mode. Where to begin... My very first experience in May 2017 was with Christine, who offered me one of the most cleansing and rejuvenating facials I've ever had. She recommended I come in every 3 months, but since I don't have many skincare issues other than dryness, I didn't feel compelled to follow her recommendation. Instead, I booked a 1.5h massage ($125) with my cousin on our next visit. My masseuse was Andrea, who applied the right amount of pressure on areas I carried stress. She's the best. I didn't even realize an hour passed by. The massage included aromatherapy, but due to people with fragrance allergies, they asked me if I would like it included in my massage. The aromatherapy was a delight to the senses tbh. It opened up my airways, especially since I felt congested the week prior. Their massage oils were made in-house with plant-based ingredients. Some of the best stuff imo. Hot stones were also included in my treatment. It was an added benefit considering the price rivaled that of many reputable massage establishments (Burke Williams for instance). I think it was definitely an hour well spent & may even consider making it a regular thing if my purse strings can handle. read more

Five stars aren't enough to reflect how wonderful Hibiscus is! I've been a client for at least four years. Both my mother and my husband have also been and we all agree Andreea, Carlos and the rest of the staff are fantastic. (Side note, my mother and I rarely agree on anything!) In my experience, all of the team at Hibiscus are true healers. Body pain and stress, skin flare ups, even mental stress, they want to help heal where you need it. And, if you don't need healing but just want a massage to relax or a facial to look better, they do an excellent job there too! Andreea has done her research on the best ingredients for your skin. Late one Saturday night, I realized I was in need of some serious self care. My go to masseuse doesn't work Sundays so I started messaging businesses on Yelp. When a kind voice from Hibiscus Boutique Spa rang the next day and said they could get me in for both a massage and a facial, I could not have been happier. Hibiscus is a tiny spot, located just up the road from El Cerrito Natural Grocery Company. It's simple, and feels more like a friend's home than a fancy spa (which is more than all right by me). Christine fetched me almost immediately upon arrival and led me in for my facial. Many of the products used here are made in house from herbs, enzymes, clays, and oils which me and my skin very much appreciated. Christine gave me some easily implementable tips for my sensitive skin and let me know which parts of my current regimen were working for me and which ones probably weren't. (Her tips all felt helpful and non-judgy.) After my facial Christine handed me off to Karen, who gave me an excellent massage. She listened to the areas I asked her to focus on and gave me exactly what I asked for. I've always been so-so on hot stones, but I enjoyed Karen's use of them here at Hibiscus. Following two hours of blissful pampering I was treated to tea and dark chocolate (why doesn't every spa treatment end like this?). I highly recommend Hibiscus, and in particular, the spa combo which features a one hour massage paired with a one hour facial for $160. This review is for facials with Andreea. I have been seeing her for a couple months now after struggling with acne for close to 20 years. I've been to a couple of different places for facials and things would usually improve briefly but then go right back to bad. I've also been on several different prescription topical medications. This is the first time I have experienced real results - almost immediately - and so far the improvements seem to be here to stay. This is the clearest and best that my skin had been since I was about 10 years old! Other than the typical facial things (extraction, masks, peels, etc), here are some of the things that Andreea has done for me: mixing my own personalized toner and moisturizer, LED light therapy, recommending herbs for herbal tea, recommending diet changes, and recommending best non-clogging makeup brands. Her approach is incredibly holistic. She asks lots of questions to get an understanding of how your whole body works. I have a much better understanding now of the way my skin relates to the different systems of my body. I am SO thankful to have found Andreea. I walked in not knowing what to expect, and left feeling like I was a celestial unicorn on a Lisa Frank cloud. No seriously, this place took care of me. I went in for a full body massage and a facial. I'll describe each separately: Body massage: my masseuse was Delores. I could not be happier with her level of service and personality. She used the perfect amount of pressure the whole process, and checked in with me several times along the way. I appreciated that she recognized areas that needed special attention on her own, but she wasn't over the top trying to get me to see all my problem areas like some masseuses tend to do. I would definitely ok her again. Facial: Christine did my facial, and she was straight to the point and efficient. This was the FIRST time that extractions didn't make me want to cry out in agony. When that was done the light and airy mud mask she used left my skin very smooth to touch. Honestly I can't remember the entire process because I was so relaxed and just enjoying the moment. All in all this was a very nice experience for me, and timely. Had extreme back pain today after work and started calling places that could take me in immediately to have some type of relief regardless of the cost. I called my normal place and they didn't have anything until after 5 or 6, but waiting just wasn't any option. So I called this Hibiscus location that's literally steps away from my house and I'm glad I did! Not only could they take me right away, but the prices were very responsible and the care couldn't have been better. Today I saw Karen and I couldn't believe how easy she was to talk to and caring about my recent situation with pain and weight gain. She and Carlos were both excellent and the service compared to my usual is an indescribable and the reason why I cancelled my membership online tonight as of today. Not only did Karen and Carlos go over a care plan that could work well for me with Andrea and give me options that could help with my pain for immediate relief (and it did), but she also gave me some tips and items (purchased tonight on Amazon) to get to relief until I can see Andrea who specializes in curing pain and somatics. Overall I loved Karen technics and how she was able to make me feel so comfortable in my own skin which I have not felt in awhile. I will be back to see her and or Andrea very soon. read more

Andrea burned my face after using lactic acid. She kept talking and asking me about my work the entire time I was there. The whole point of a spa is to provide relaxing environment for customers. I told her my face was burning and she said it was, "normal." I had to start fanning my face using my hand and she wouldn't even let me do that! She finally acknowledge me when I started to cry!!! She offered to massage and I said no, she still touched my shoulders! Inappropriate! Then she tried trying the situation onto me and asked if I was having a bad week. Whenever I walk my dogs, I always pass by this place (because it is literally around the corner from where I live), and I wanted to get another facial. I decided to do some research and finally made the decision to come and treat myself to a facial. I can gladly say that it was well worth it. Although my appointment was late, Andrea was very nice, helpful and informative about my skin condition (I have eczema with a bit of hyperpigmentation). She used a mild blend on my face since it was my first time there. First, I would like to say thank you to Andrea. Before I move forward in writing what my experience was like, I would like to first say a few words about Andrea herself. She is such a kind person inside and out. She gives what she receives, if you show how much you really care and open up to her about your skin, she will be your friend in guiding you through your skin journey. She works with you as a genuine partnership. She wants to figure all the how's, why's, and what's to dig deep to help you achieve beautiful skin that is sustainable. She was wonderful every step of my process and I can't thank her enough. Moving to my skin journey. I have dry skin and always suffered on and off with acne. I typically get only the painful breakouts around my cycle and it takes about a week or two to clear up a bit leaving me only two more weeks for my skin to recover. I typically treat my skin with department store lactic acids and glycolic acids. The problem is, they are mostly targeted for more oily skin, causing my skin to become more dry. The month of September was different. I was suffering from a breakout that would not go away. My skin has a multitude of reasons why it ended up how it was. Poor diet from many family gatherings, new job, new skincare regimen I switched to. My skin was freaking out. Starting with my first session, Andrea did a light peel tailored for acne sufferers with dry skin. Followed by a couple of other treatments that same session. I wanted to take the slow route with my skin to see the core problem rather than a harsh peel that would be a quick fix. I did a harsh peel before a couple of years ago, and it was fantastic for the time being, but the problem just came back again. After my first session, it was eye opening for me. I received so much knowledge about my own skin. Its like that old saying, "you'd think you know someone after living with them all your life". That's how I felt about my skin. Needless to say my skin purged. It purged not horribly, it was manageable and only in the areas that I was always suffering from breakouts. Upon my second session, we found that my skin had layers of buildup causing me to have breakouts that were under active breakouts, which is the reason why 1. They were painful 2. They would never go away. I lived so close so I didn't mind coming in frequently to get a mini extraction or mini mask in between my purging stage for my skin to fully detox. Andrea was so kind to allow me to do so. We used light therapy, high frequency, masks of all sorts, and her own homemade remedies tailored for my skin. All in all, my skin is finally relieved from everything! It was definitely a process, and she was with me every step of the way. Even on my saddest days where I felt like it wasn't going to get better. I haven't been able to go back because of work and vacation, but as soon as I come back I will definitely make an appointment so we can go to phase 2, tackling hyperpigmentation. I haven't worn makeup the past month while I was doing all my sessions, and now instead of having to go without makeup to let my skin breathe, I now choose to because it has looked the best it has in years! Again, thank you so much Andrea! There aren't many acne reviews on here so I hope those who are suffering from the same issue gets to see my review and gains the courage to see her and start their own skin journey! I've been to Hibiscus Boutique Spa four times now. I try to go every 4 - 6 weeks for a full body massage. I've experienced a different masseuse each time because I want to see what the Spa offers in terms of talent. Let me tell you, although each massage has been different because of the individual techniques of each masseuse, I've never been disappointed. Each one-hour session leaves me feeling loose with great energy. This is now my go-to massage place. For my very first time at Hibiscus I booked a 90-minute session because I hadn't had a massage in a while and I was feeling very "tight". Linda was the first masseuse/therapist I had and she was amazing. Very strong and deep touch, which is what I asked for. She had some pretty cool techniques for loosening up my shoulders and neck. I've also seen Andrea, Delores, and. . .I think Jennifer (?), sorry, can't remember the name. Each person had great energy -- calming, assured, thoughtful, respectful. I always feel comfortable and welcomed in each session. While you are waiting to pay for your service you are offered some semi-sweet chocolate (gluten-free) and a nice, mellow herbal tea. I've never had a problem with the cleanliness of the place. Parking is easy to find on the street, and there's a good cafe and gift shop located nearby in case you have some time to kill before/after your appointment. Also, I should mention that even though everyone here is very open and considerate you don't get an over-whelming "hippie" vibe or anything like that. They do make some from-scratch natural beauty products, but I haven't tried them and they don't pressure you to do so. read more

I had a fabulous custom organic facial here. Christine individualizes her treatments based on your skin's needs and she mixes the ingredients on the spot from herbs, enzymes, clays and oils. She's a magician and my skin has never felt better. The owner Andreea creates and sells organic oils and powders and other products. I bought an enzymatic exfoliant that has hibiscus, carrot, pumice and of course enzymes. I have also had a series of amazing massages here from Andreea, not just the feel-good kind but the curative kind. The bodywork she prescribed for me was Somatics, which helped me a lot. read more

I've been going to Andreea for body work for the past several years in order to cope with a serious shoulder injury. If you're looking to experience an AMAZING massage and facial, I would HIGHLY recommend coming here! For Valentine's day, my (absolutely fantastic and considerate) fiance booked a massage and facial appointment for me at the spa as a present. I had been mentioning that my back and shoulders were in all sorts of knots due to being a professional violinist, where a lot of times, I'm hunched over and carrying a lot of tension in those areas. I've had several massages before in other places (chain massage places, chiropractic offices), but afterwards, I didn't feel satisfied and was left disappointed. Dolores worked WONDERS on my back! I felt so relaxed, and she asked how I was doing or if I needed less pressure, and which specific areas I would like worked out more. I definitely drifted off here and there because I was so comfortable. I've also noticed at many other places, they claim to give you a "full 1-hour" massage, but I always notice it's usually less than that. I checked the clock from the beginning to the end of the massage, and she truly gave me my full 1-hour! I've never had a facial before, but Christine was amazing! She also gave me some tips on how to take care of my skin. After my facial, my fiance even noted that my skin was glowing, all thanks to her masks and oils!
