We interviewed over 10 flooring contractors before making our selection, and the in-person quote provided by Glen from Verrazano was the most detailed, consultative, thorough in explanation, with options -- allowing us, the clients, to make an informed decision. Next, dealing with final contractual elements with Frank was pleasure. He's not only thorough himself in explaining the contract, but he's direct/up front, which I really appreciated and has a great personality/sense of humor! He apparently set us up with great workers because they did an amazing job. We can't believe the floors turned out the way they did, as we were very concerned about their original, fragile status. Everyone who visits is impressed and thinks we got brand newly installed floor pieces even though they were simply sanded and sealed by Verrazano's team. These guys are amazing. We called them for a last minute job and they moved heaven and earth to get the work done on time for us to move in. Despite being threatened by a malignant neighbor and battling through a snowstorm, they managed to transform our cupped, yellowed, dingy floors into a thing of beauty. Don't take my word for it. UPDATE: the day after the floors were finished, our movers dropped a heavy metal shelf, ramming it into a floor board. Verrazano Flooring did a great job with a sand and refinish of the wood flooring throughout my apartment. Gina, Glenn, and the whole team were a pleasure to work with. They offered me choices of what stain coat to get, and were knowledgeable about the types of stains that went well with the wood. They did a great job protecting other rooms and surfaces from damage during the process - I had just had some painting done before they started, and after they finished the baseboards and newly painted surfaces looked perfect - no touching up needed and no residue or dust left behind. They pulled up the damaged boards, fixed the with the subfloor, put down new boards, and stained the whole to match our existing floor. I recently had Verrazano replace the old hardwood floors in my Washington Heights apartment, and everything came out beautiful. As a first-time homeowner, getting all of the flooring redone was a pretty major task, so I requested quite a few estimates. I ultimately chose Verrazano because Glenn was the best of the bunch -- knowledgeable, confident and responsive. The price fell somewhere in the middle and was very reasonable. My experience during the actual work being done wasn't as smooth as the estimate process. The crew worked extremely fast, which I certainly appreciated, especially considering the amount of work that had to be done within five days. Communication, however, was a bit lacking. I live in a very strict co-op and had to be in constant contact with the flooring office to make sure rules were being followed (I was staying in another neighborhood during this time), but calls and emails weren't being returned. I received no status updates and wasn't informed when the work was actually completed. I had to follow up on when I can move back in, when I can put the furniture/rugs back down, etc. Luckily, the quality of work was excellent, as you can see from the before & after photos. I feel like I live in a brand new, brighter, cleaner apartment. Most of the creaks have been eliminated, and the floors feel solid and sturdy. I also have to add that Frank (the owner) is a class act in customer service, helping to make sure things were taken care of and following up with me directly. I would recommend Verrazano to others based on their quality of work, but be prepared to stress the importance of communication and particular needs. read more

After a not so perfect experience with this company I can say that in the end they did right by me and I would recommend them to anyone. I had the red oak floors of my 1200sf condo refinished and after four estimates chose Verrazano. Glenn came by to view the job and give the estimate. I chose them based on reviews and knowledge, and their price was in the mid to high range of the group. At the end of the first day of work once the floor in the living area was sanded down to bare wood, the worker applied six different types of stain and sealer to show me options which I appreciated as you can't really tell how it's going to look on your specific wood and in your specific lighting. I decided on no stain and four coats of a high traffic matte finish Bona sealer to let the beauty of the oak show through. Two issues arose. The first issue concerned the wood filler that had been applied between floorboards by the previous installer. If that had been left as is, it would have produced yellowish lines between the beautifully refinished floorboards. Although Glenn hadn't caught this in his initial inspection and estimate, his guys applied new filler over the entire floor. It looked spectacular. The second issue arose when I discovered that the workers had applied the sealant liquid against (instead of with) the grain of the wood in certain areas limited to the kitchen and dining room. When I brought this to Glenn's attention at first he pushed back. I then asked for them to test just a few floor boards in these areas by sanding them down and refinishing them, which he had argued would produce a different looking appearance but I told them I'd take the risk if it turned out bad. The results however were great. Once he realized that, he eventually agreed to resurface those areas in the manner they had used for the sample area. This wasn't without significant negotiation however, but with my father having done a lot of carpentry work in the past (and my assisting him), I knew I had to have the job done right. The job was done several months ago, I waited until now to write this review to see how the job held up. I'm glad to report that after significant traffic (including move-in without protection of the floor), there is not one scratch and the finish looks amazing. Great job by a great company that stands behind their work. Even though we had issues, they were resolved and the quality of their work was outstanding. I also wanted them to replace the over half-century -old wood floor in the hall but Glenn insisted that it was good oak and just needed a sanding and polish. Hubby and I just purchased a condo and the prior owners were rough on the floors, which also had a lot of water damage/warping. I had originally planned on working with one contractor to do all the renovations we wanted, but when he came back with a crazy price quote on the floors I decided to check out Verrazano, which our broker had recommended. Other contractors had also recommended them, mentioning that they were more expensive, but that they did an excellent job and finished when they said they would finish. I spoke and e-mailed a lot with Jackie, who had Glen give me a call prior to coming to look at the place and measure it in person. Glen and Jackie were really helpful in breaking down the prices and the pros and cons of different finishes. The company is super busy and I had to book them 2 weeks in advance! There was a minor hiccup with Glen verbally telling me on the phone the earliest he could start the job, but then not relaying that back to Jackie. Luckily, Jackie was super understanding and in the end was able to have their guys come out on the original date I wanted to begin refinishing the floors. Everything was very professional and the best part was the finished product! The floors are now COMPLETELY smooth and beautiful. Loved the speed, quality, and care taken during service. I was moving into a new apartment and the floors were a mess (scratches everywhere, stains, and a couple deep gouges). The space itself had some appliances, built-ins, and a metal staircase to navigate as well. Verrazano came onsite for an inspection/design session and within two weeks, I had a new floor. Maybe it's Covid 19, but they are not as helpful as they have been in the past. I got an estimate for the work to be done. I specified to sanding because they don't do dustless sanding. The main part of the job, I trusted them with it. Never heard anymore from them. I had to keep calling to get an idea of what they were going to do for me. Got an estimate and then another idea on cost if I acquire my own supplies. Product not available, they said (could be true, but I know where to buy it). Then they said it was because I didn't want them to do the sanding. They are right. They don't do dustless...... read more
