We Hit another jackpot and had an Amazing seafood feast and experience at Buoy and Trap Seafood! From the moment we walked in we felt welcome and transported to a Rhode island style seafood market. Lucky us we came at happy hour so we ordered pretty much one of everything on the happy hour menu (2 dozen oysters, poke, and clam chowder - special home recipe from Rhode Island) and added two lobster rolls (one of each) and added a ceviche and a brewskie. Service was superb, thanks to Zach the owner, and ambiance was on point - very laid back and relaxed. Perfect way to enjoy a seafood feast! 5 stars for Buoy and Trap Seafood and two thumbs up.. way up!

Dropped in here today for a much needed snack after a 26 mile mountain bike ride.... This did not disappoint and absolutely hit the spot. Wish It was packed with more lobster because it was sooooooo dang good. Maybe next time I'll see if I can pay for like a roll and a half and get some extra sea bug. I went with the Connecticut style lobster roll, next time I will for sure go with the Maine and report back which one takes the crown. Place is super super small inside, but really well put together and has some seating options, there is also outside seating.

Up close on the Maine lobster roll. Huge pieces of lobster.

We were headed to a different spot when this caught our attention. As soon as I saw a lobster roll on the menu, I was hooked. I don't love a lot of mayo on my lobster rolls so I asked for easy on the mayo and then extra lemons. The mayo is citrus and delicious. It adds a delicious layer of citrus to match the crisp cold lobster. The chips on the side were the perfect amount. The portion size was perfect for the price. I am so thankful to have found this spot. I will be back soon.

The quality of fish here is top notch. They have a market as well as small restaurant. We came in for HH. Portions were halved, so were prices, so you needed double the portion to fill the belly. We tried a lobster roll. It was delicious. I'd recommend this for a grab n go vs dining experience

Pure seafood excellence at this buoy in the mountains. Stop here to do one or two or both things: buy the seafood for dinner, order 5 million dozen with a lobster roll - Connecticut style. Ask for Ian, buy some swag for grandma. Idc, just come

I'll start out by listing my one big complaint about this spot; They have just about ruined all other oysters for me, since no others in my experience have been as tasty as what they shuck here. Buoy and Trap is a really amazing little spot. It is the sort of tiny, hole-in-the wall place I love, with just the small main counter, and an equally tiny dining nook with a few barstools and a window to the kitchen. The menu has some extremely tasty options, plus if you are lucky enough to come for "Trappy Hour", you can spring for a selection of a few different morsels. Right off the bat, the oysters are outstanding. Fresh, delicious, they really opened my eyes to what good oysters can be. Other stuff on the menu includes a truly outstanding Maine Lobster Roll on brioche. Small, but beyond belief tasty. And I would be remiss if I didn't also try their poke, which is also maybe the best I can remember having. And for beverages, they have a few local beers on tap, and a selection of soft drinks. But lest you forget, this is also a full on seafood market. The front fridge case is loaded with fresh, quality choices you can buy to take home. Plus, there is even a selection of tinned fish to try out. (I'd recommend the tinned scallops.) Beyond the cool setting and the awesome fare, the service here has been positively outstanding. The owner, Zack, and his employees are very knowledgable about what they do, and very friendly. Sounds like they got plans to do other sorts of events, so I hope we can see these guys popping up more in our region. The store itself, as I said before, is a really cool tiny spot, with a chill vibe and some nice decorations, located in the warehouse area north of town. Prices for everything, even during happy hour, are certainly not cheap, especially since the portion sizes are on the small side. But you are dealing with extremely good stuff, so I feel you are getting very good value for the quality of their products. All in all, this was a very surprising and delightful find in Truckee, and I willd definitely be swimming on back sometime when next I pass through. If you love seafood, and live anywhere in the Reno-Truckee-Tahoe area, put them on your fish-finder.

We had sucha fun time here ! We came in for happy hour. Please keep in mind, if you eat in the restaurant, it is very small. There's maybe about 10 seats available to enjoy. The oysters were so fresh and their shallot vinaigrette was perfect. The star of the show... the lobster roll. It is literally overflowing with lobster. The bun is buttery perfect. I would come back here again for sure. I love the limited seating and intimacy of this spot

This was so so so so so so good I don't think I'll ever move on from this experience. Ian and Pitt provided the best service and served up next level lobster rolls. I'll be back again and again

Take a nice trip to truckee and check this place out. We arrived a lil before they opened. Parking wasn't too bad. We were first which I love being. Got right to the menu. Def got a few things. Service was good as can be. Super friendly and they recommended hitting the happy hour. Which I'm sure will make another trip. Not a huge place. Just a lil bar top or table outside. And they have a lot of fresh fish to take home and lil snacks. We got a stuffie to go and baked it at home. No pic ate it to fast!

This place has great reviews so we decided to check it out after a day of skiing for their happy hour specials. It is located in an industrial park, near Full Belly Deli. It is very small with bar seating, a small kitchen area and a fish counter with refrigerator case. The owner was a very friendly guy and helped us with our order of poke and soup as well as a canned beer from Rhode Island. The clam chowder is Rhode Island style (no cream) with lots of clams, potatoes and bacon. It is tasty but I would personally prefer the creamier Boston style. The poke bowl came with tuna, pineapple chunks, black sesame seeds, seaweed salad, toasted almonds and sauce over sushi rice. The flavors were good but the fish was cut with strains of fat that resulted in a more chewy texture instead of the melt in your mouth feel you usually get with ahi. We also sampled the ceviche which was amazing - shrimp, avocado, red onion and cilantro. The fish looked excellent but we were passing through and didn't want to take it on the long drive in the car.

Aside the obvious lineup of meats, there are variety of sausages. Great looking steaks. Fresh chickens. Our meat budget at our regular supermarket has since shrunk, because we now make a separate trip here. What's really great about this place, on top of the choices and quality, is the people. Everyone is very attentive, helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. Last week I wanted to splurge on some wagyu, and I of course had to ask what the best way to cook was. I'm sure everyone who bought wagyu ask this question. The guy was super kind and patient to give me all the tips on how he'd do it. I'm not very confident about cooking meat -- it's always been my husband's thing. But now I know where to go, who to ask, and all that. Wagyu was, by the way, amazing. This place is a local gem.

This family owned-and-operated business has been around since 1974 with origins that date as far back as the early-1930s. And after all of these years, I had come to this place for the first time on 7/3/2026. Located on W. Plumb Ln and tucked in between S. Arlington Ave and Plumas St., this place is in a quiet strip mall bordered by a Starbucks and other small businesses. Upon entry, you are immediately drawn by the aroma of so many excellent meats coming from all directions. Considering this was a day before the 4th of July, this place was packed with customers. The selections here are vast as they offer just about every part of the cow imaginable; everything from chuck roast, ribs, sirloin, brisket, flank, and much more. And they carry a ton of choices in seasoned tri-tip and ground beef to choose from. Additionally, you can find a vast amount of pork, chicken, lamb, and a ton of house-made sausages. In addition to the huge assortment of quality meats here, this place has an enormous amount of marinades, dry rubs, sauces, and a large freezer case that offers a ton of frozen options. I will say that this place is a bit more expensive than one of my other favorite butcher shops in Reno, "Blue Ribbon". For example, a cut of sirloin steak at Blue Ribbon is around $13/lb while Butcher Boy is priced at $19/lb. However, when making these comparisons, you have to factor in the meat curing preservation and how these animals were handled prior to being slaughtered. It is a whole process that can get quite scientific. After it was all said and done, I purchased some jalapeño bacon, bone-in pork chops, and some ground chuck. After taking this home and eventually grilling/cooking everything, I was quite impressed with the overall flavor that these meats offer. Especially with how tender and juicy everything came out. My favorite was the bacon as this really hit the spot for my 4th of July breakfast. All in all, "Butcher Boy Meat Market" is an excellent (yet pricey) butcher shop. Keep in mind that they are closed Sunday/Monday but open Tuesday through Saturday from 9am-7pm. With above average service and a huge variety of quality meats, I am giving them a respectable four-star rating.
