After a fun day of snowboarding, my wife and I went looking for somewhere nice to eat and the mediterranean fusion Petra Restaurant & Wine Bar seemed like a calm place within the village to relax at. We were quickly seated and our server checked up on us frequently. We were impressed by the decor of wine, leather seats, wooden branches, and relaxing music. We ordered the Meatballs, Chicken Pot Pie, and French Onion & Gnocchi soup. The pie's unique presentation was welcoming. The bread was crispy and the chicken mixed with vegetables had the right ratio. The soup went down warm and satisfied my chills. The onion wasn't overpowering the gnocchi. And of course, we had a paired wine that was suggested. We'll be back to try the other fusion dishes. read more

Stayed at Northstar over the new years holiday and ordered takeout from Petra on 1/2/26. The menu definitely felt limited. I ended up ordering chicken pot pie. I'll pause and acknowledge that chicken pot pie isn't typically something one orders out. But having said that, chicken pot pie isn't something I'd expect any restaurant to mess up! What I got was dismally disappointing. It was at best a watery chicken soup served with two pieces of puff pastry. The chicken was probably the leftover of that used for other chicken dishes. The waitress told me where a little convenient store was where I could get my niece something while we all had dinner (cause she refused anything lol) here is my niece enjoying some lucky charms at this beautiful restaurant typically I wouldn't allow that but the waitress made me feel super comfortable to do so. Came to Petra twice on different visits to Northstar Village and both times had a great experience. The first time, we came after dinner for a smaller snack plus some wine -- they have a $17 tasting choice where you can pick any 3 wines on their menu and you get a 2oz pours of each. This is a great option if you want to try a few wines you may not normally drink an entire glass of. All the wines we tried were very tasty but I am no wine connoisseur by any means. A good amount of options including bubbles, whites, reds, plus a few options of beer too. Now on food -- the first time we ordered a grilled cheese & tomato soup appetizer to snack on with the wine. This was a solid dish, but the entrees were really solid. Huge portion size -- we got the osso bucco and the pork fell right off the bone and was super tasty, plus I think it went really well with parsnip puree and the huge acorn squash. The bavette steak was also very good, steak was made to medium (though they didn't ask) and came with a small salad and fries (though the menu says "potatoes" we didn't realize this meant fries), so we actually ordered a separate order of fries as an appetizer. But no mind, the shoestring fries were super crunchy and a great salty appetizer/side. All in all, I was very impressed by the food here (for a really reasonable price), the only downside was the speed of service. Both times, it was the same server running the entire store (hosting, pouring wine, and waiting tables), which can result in some things taking a really long time even if the restaurant isn't full. The kitchen also takes quite a long time, over half an hour for food to come out (including the appetizer), so just be prepared for that. But all in all, I really enjoyed our visit and would definitely dine here again. read more

I didn't know how dead the village would be tonight, so I made reservations for 6pm - only to find no one there. We thought it was closed, but walked up to it anyway and we're glad that it wasn't closed. We just happened to be the only diners at that time. We took the outside patio bench area, and more diners trickled in and sat on the patio tables too. We ordered the pork burger with shoestring fries and grilled cheese with tomato soup. We also had flights of wines. We finished with the port, lemon tart and ice cream sandwich for dessert. Both the food, dessert and wine were good, but not great. Although we recognize that the restaurant was experiencing water leaks; when we sat at the bar, staff accommodated everyone else at the restaurant except for us. 4th of July weekend it was slow but reservations are still needed. The table spacing was generous so that the summer slow down at other venues probably created more demand. The wine selection was great and the server was very capable with recommendations since most it was new to us. All the produce from the appetizers to the main course was fresh, bright, and full of flavor. The effort sourcing it was worth it and noticeable in the caprese salad and the pasta. We passed on dessert with lots of small shop options around. The service was attentive but not intrusive so you could have conversation without lots of interruption. The hours stated are very fluid. We went to the restaurant after a day of skiing. Sign says they are open 4-9. We showed up at 4:15, the open sign wasn't lit up but an employee was just opening the door. She told us they would be awhile. So we waited another 15 min, still not opened. We were looking on Yelp for a place to have dinner not too far from where we were staying, and found this place. It's a really cute place, loved the interiors. The service is very friendly, we could pick the table we wanted to sit at. They have a small but diverse food menu, that seems to cater to all tastes, and a very interesting wine menu. We ordered the Mediterranean vegetable tagine and cast iron seared hanger steak. We loved both the items we ordered, the tagine with all the vegetables and cous cous tasted so good, ranks among the best cous cous I have had. The steak was great too, I loved the crispy outside. The only disappointment was, we were in the mood for some dessert, and they didbt have any. We were told they would be getting their dessert menu back soon. read more

Overall I felt like the food was pretty average, I really expected more. We ordered takeout and would say that process was pretty smooth. Overall portions were a little on the small side. The grilled cheese and tomato soup was fine, would honestly prefer the same thing from Panera... felt similar. Grilled cheese was made in a panini. Soup was very salty/garlicky, overall a little over powering need more freshness. We ordered the airline chicken which was the best thing we got! We also ordered the pork osso bucco which was dry. Also got the squash as a side and it was also pretty meh, not great not bad - I would have imagine it prepared a little differently than large chunks. Almost everything was closed for dinner, and the Northstar village was eerily dark and quiet, so I'm glad Petra was still open. First off, the website says closed Monday and Tuesday, but they're currently open 7 days a week for takeout. I saw some mixed reviews on the service, but their menu offered a good variety, and we were interested in checking out their wines by the bottle, so we came here for takeout while staying close by. The guy who helped us browse the wines was very friendly. Food: - Fulton Valley Roasted Airline Chicken Breast: a bit dry, but there was a nice sear on it, and the sauce on top was good. It came with braised yam, roasted brussels sprouts. - Pork Osso Bucco: with celery root puree and squash. It wasn't as saucy as I expected. For their wines, Uncorked (their parent group) has some interesting finds that are hard to get elsewhere (ex Domaine de la Cote). The website doesn't offer vintage information, so it's best to call ahead to find out about which bottles and vintages they actually have in stock at the specific store you're going to. I think the Truckee location has the biggest selection. They get extra points for their staff for powering through COVID to offer an additional dining option in the Northstar village. read more

After a long day at the slopes Petra was about the nicest thing we could stumble across in the northstar village. It is nicely located in the corner of the main stairs that lead to the parking and the Rec center.from the main thorough way we could see its very modern alpine decor. Once you sit in it is like being transported to an imaginary place where wine flows out of the snow. Its bar is located front and center in the restaurant and is accentuated by blood red wall and wine bottle covered walls. Service was spot on. Our server was very prompt and had many good descriptions of the food. She definitely knew what she was serving and how to explain it to the customer. As appetizer we got the game fondue. It was delicious and the pears gave it an added touch of texture and flavor. I loved it! As entreeWe got the short beef panini and the short beed plate. It was like cutting into butter! Simple wine bar. Food average and ultra slow service due to too few employees attempting to handle a full house. Could not get water refill bottles from staff for some reason. Asked for refills and would get a small 12 ounce bottle of water designed for a table of two. Grilled cheese was average and nothing to write home about. The vegetable stew was the best item we sampled. Rosemary sourdough bread was uninspired...so were the olives and almonds (don't order either and save the $25 for the two appetizers....better just eat elsewhere). Better choices available at Northstar for sure. This place caters to those on vacation who don't mind dropping $180 on mediocre food served by slow service. Such a great evening! Petra at northstar is open for patio and inside dining. Lots of spacing between seats. Servers wearing masks. Hubby and I are doing a "staycation" at northstar for a few days. Nice to walk over to Petra and enjoy the patio. Petra as a good selection of wine and beer. We were here for the food. We enjoyed watermelon salad with feta and crispy chickpeas to start. For our main, hubby had the chicken with polenta and squash. I had the vegan tagine with couscous and butter nut squash. Everything was fresh, tasty and something I haven't cooked at home in the last three months. Everything was the perfect size. We shared an ice cream brownie sandwich for dessert. So fun and great way to end the meal. It was large enough to share between more than two people but we did manage to finish it. With more and more folks in town, northstar is a great option to have some space. I would recommend calling ahead to reserve a table in the patio or inside. Easily the best restaurant in the Northstar village, especially if you're sick of burgers and pizza (there are some great burgers and pizza in Northstar area, but it wears off after a few days).
