I often see Buoy Bowls over by my work but have always passed them at inconvenient times. Thankfully, I was on my way to pick up lunch and saw Buoy Bowls and decided a smoothie would pair well with my lunch order. It's a purple food truck and can't be missed! They were stopped in their usual spot at Lonerider's. There were a few cars there and I knew this was a popular truck. I originally ordered the Ube smoothie for my husband since we don't get Ube out here in Wake Forest and I ordered the Açaí smoothie. Unfortunately, they were out of Ube so I chose the mango instead. The staff were really nice and super quick with making the smoothies. It was really hot out, it would be awesome if they had an umbrella or awning for people to wait under. The drinks were delicious! Albeit, a little pricey, but man these were good! I definitely want to try their açaí bowls next time because the sizes were quite big. The smoothies came in one size. I had been reading and seeing pics on Instagram and the bowls looked delish, so when the truck was outside my gym I couldn't resist. I bought two bowls, one for hubby and one for me. Both were amazingly delicious, a regular was almost too much as a breakfast/lunch, but I loved every spoonful. Super delicious and super fresh. The staff were pleasant but they could have used a little more southern friendliness. One last comment is that I could not find any calorie counts anywhere. My friend just raved about this place and had to take me here. We tracked down the food truck (well, one of three) on Facebook and got there right as they opened at 10am. I ordered a regular Surf's Up bowl "upside down" and added Nutella for about $11. It was heavenly - like dessert for breakfast! It is evident that they truly do use the highest quality ingredients and everything is fresh. None of the bowls have particularly exotic ingredients, but they are totally customizable with the classic blends and toppings they do offer. The staff were super nice too. The most popular is the Brotella which is a blend of Organic Açaí, Bananas, Strawberries, and Apple Juice with toppings like Organic Hemp Granola, Bananas, Strawberries Blueberries, Nutella, and Coconut Flakes; I had this one most recently, it was good, but I would have preferred the Nutella in the blend, so the flavor was spread out better. My favorite is the Surfs Up which is a blend of Organic Açaí, Bananas, Strawberries, Peanut Butter, and Almond Milk with toppings like Organic Hemp Granola, Bananas, Strawberries, Cacao Nibs, and Organic Raw Honey; I have had this one at least 3 times and can't wait to eat it again. Hands down best acai bowl in the triangle. 1) The base is SO THICK. They add the perfect amount of liquid so that it doesn't melt at all, even in the 90* summer temperatures. Generous portion of acai as well. 2) They use really high-quality, fresh ingredients!! Their instagram literally tells you where they get their acai from. 3) Toppings are great. They have so many options like cacao nibs, bee pollen, hemp seeds, etc and lots of different types of fruit as well. 4) Lots of options for bowls!! My personal favorite is the Surfs UP (because it has peanut butter in the base) but most of my friends get the Brotella (has Nutella on top). Something for everyone!! Be warned - the line can get long, especially in the summer. Worth it though... just don't go when you're in a hurry!! They use quality fresh ingredients including local N.C. bee pollen and honey. I have tried a few of their smoothie bowls and like the buoy and playa bowl best. This is one of the best places to grab a açaí or pitaya bowl. They have good smoothies too. I've always gotten the surfs up bowl with pitaya, until recently they told me they couldn't do it anymore. The Last time i ordered surfs up with pitaya it didn't taste the same & i realized later that there was no peanut butter- so i asked the next time i went if they could do surfs up (has peanut butter in the blend) & use pitaya instead of Acai. They said they could only do it when they were slow (which at this time they were busy so they couldn't) & another time i asked they said they could only do surfs up blend with peanut butter on top of pitaya- which i didn't want. YESSSS - it's great to finally have somewhere to go for good Acai bowls. I felt like I was missing out on the trend that so many big cities like NYC and LA have hopped on. These bowls are pretty big and come with a ton of toppings. $10 might seem like a lot for a smoothie bowl, but you truly do get a ton. I usually get the Maui Wowie. The blend is acai, banana, strawberries, and coconut water. Topped with organic hemp granola, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, almond butter, bee pollen, hemp hearts. Most other places I've seen cost upwards of $14-15 to add all of the toppings these bowls come with. My only "complaint" is that since it's a food truck I can't always catch them when I'm craving. I work in Durham and the truck is usually in Cary and/or Apex which kinda stinks. Definitely come to Durham more often!!!! Otherwise this place is bomb. read more

The staff is great and friendly and I love the fact that they use fresh ingredients. My favorite one to get is the brotella, an acai bowl with Nutella! One of the cons of this food truck is that they can be so busy the wait can be long. One time I waited for a total for 40 min to pay and get my acai bowl. But it's cause it can be so busy so its understandable and they do help keep the line moving. If you visit them in the fall and winter the lines are short. Skip the small... trust me, go for a regular, I don't recommend going large unless you're really really hungry. You're looking to spend about $10 average on one of these. Is it worth it? You can also ask them to customize your bowl and they're totally cool with it. The staff is super friendly and speedy with their orders. Prices on the truck do not match up with the prices that the items ring up to be. They often run out of supplies by 2 in the afternoon and can't make bowls with certain ingredients. They ask everyone for pictures for their instagram story and pressure you even if you don't want to. Owner treats employees poorly and acts like he cares about the customers but won't offer refunds order is messed up. Sadly Custer service is not their strength. The bowls here rock. I frequent this place weekly, it has a truck in the carpark of a lock gym. Today I approve the truck to order and i notice they look out close the windows and turn their back. I stand and wait patiently, after a minute or so they open the window ask if i have an online order, I didn't. They say we close today at 2pm. But they are back tomorrow. I look at my phone and it's 2.02pm. As a customer who goes to this truck weekly, it's sad to see a business to so rigid on rules and time.
