He healed all of my back pain! Including debilitating sciatica! I was in pain for years before seeing Dr. Ozgur

Dr.Ozgur, I've been a patient in the Newport Beach area for over two decades. In fact, I had both my children at Hoag Hospital. My experience with you was one of great discomfort. Not only will I never visit the office again, but would certainly not recommend a physician who prima fascia lets a patient feel that level of distress that I endured with my husband. I will also take my concern to Hoag medical board. (I have ample claims through my insurance provider to illustrate my visits. Dr. Ozgur is the most ethical and conservative surgeon that I have had the pleasure of meeting. After my first consultation with Dr. Ozgur in 2022, he was hesitant to recommend surgery for my neck pain. He asked me to get a second opinion which I proceeded to get from another well known surgeon and was given the same diagnosis as Dr. Ozgur. 2 years later I was feeling much more neck pain and visited Dr. Ozgur again. He was still not certain surgery was the only option. PT and other treatments were recommended but after the completion of PT and nerve blocks, my situation didn't improve. Come 2025 and going back for another review with Dr. Ozgur, I was told that my situation has deteriorated and surgery will be the one option that will help my symptoms. At this time my neck pain had progressed to be unbearable as well as I was experiencing daily headaches and ringing in my ears. Surgery was scheduled and performed 8 weeks ago and I had a c3 to c7 acdf fusion. Starting immediately after surgery, I noticed that not only my neck pain was almost gone but so were my headaches. Ringing in my ears had subsided and has been getting less and less as weeks pass. I'm a new man and my life has been transformed as if I feel a decade or two younger and healthier. I owe this all to Dr. Ozgur. He is a master surgeon and I can't thank him enough for the quality of care that he and his team (Janniene and Yulia) have provided me. I paid $350 for a second opinion on a back surgery I needed. I really didn't get any new information and we did not go over MRI or anything. He just told me to get an EMG test and one of the numbers of the doctors he recommended was wrong. Total waste of money. The Doctor actually seemed annoyed that we were even there. Disappointed with this lazy Doctor. I was in the HOAG ER on a Saturday and diagnosed with an L3 Burst Fracture with a .5cm fragment sticking into my spine. This is very serious stuff. The ER doctor (who was exceptional (10 out of 10) BTW) consulted Dr. Ozgur who apparently was the spine specialist on-call. I was clearly instructed to follow up with him if I would like within the week to find out a plan of treatment. The ER Doctor stressed the importance of this follow up. I called on Monday and the first thing I was told was they would have to try to fit me in. OK, completely understood. I was called back the next day by a receptionist who was apparently qualified enough to answer ALL my questions. I was told that I was not a surgical candidate. When I asked more questions I was talked down to like I was the dumbest person on the planet. BY A RECEPTIONIST HANDING OUT MEDICAL ADVICE. She said the Doctor refused to see me even to explain what was going on and go over my CT and MRI. They literally told me to go find another Doctor, or if maybe one of their PAs had time they might think about seeing me....LITERALLY. So, in a nutshell, they put me on an island alone to figure out how to handle a severely fractured vertebra that may in the future if not fixed, make me paralyzed. So, you want to know whats up with the Healthcare system in California...THIS is what's up. A bunch of derilect Doctors running around. You are NUTS if you trust this guy... very seriously. Dr. Ozgur performed minimally invasive surgery on L4/L5 after I suffered from years of pain other surgeons either didn't want to touch or simply didn't want to spend the time explaining what they were going to do. Dr. Ozgur spent a considerable amount of time explaining to me exactly what his surgical plans would be and even showed me physical models of his intended approach. I walked out of the hospital without the use of my cane, walked a mile 10 post surgery, 6 miles at six weeks post and was hiking the cloud forest of Ecuador 3 months later! Excellent doctor. The doctor I went to first wanted to do very invasive spine surgery with plates and screws. Dr. Ozgur sent me to a neurologist, unlike the first doctor, to determine where the pain was coming from. It was not coming from the place that the first surgeon told me. I had surgery and felt almost immediate relief. I've had little pain, just weakness in my right leg, which I'm sure will be resolved once I start physical therapy. 10+ stars if possible. For over 8 years i suffered chronic sciatic pain. Debilitating nerve pain into my foot, calf and thigh. Joke. Referred to Dr. Ozgur from a neighbor. Read up online. Became very excited based on what I read. Come consultation time I sit in a room with no medical equipment and in walks the Doctor along with his assistant and a laptop. I reviewed your file the doctor says and I didn't see anything that could be causing your symptoms. Mind you, I just provided my multiple MRI and CT scans to the front office less than 5 minutes ago. Also, my symptoms have been lasting for over a year and I can pinpoint the exact location/problem area. Very in depth review Doctor I do say so myself (insert laugh here). I was dumbfounded and in shock and at a loss for words the entire appointment as he just literally looked like he didn't want to be there. Had me move my neck a couple times and sent me packing. WOW. Just WOW. What a waste of a hopeful appointment. Dr. Ozgur performed back surgery on me two weeks ago. It was completely successful and I've made a complete recovery. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Ozgur, his PA and his office staff. When you are meeting with Dr. Ozgur in his office, you have his total attention and he is completely focussed on you and your problem. His PA is in the room taking notes the entire time, so he doesn't have to. Every time I reached out to his office, both before and after the surgery, even after hours, his PA always returned my calls, one time pulling to the side of the road to call me back! Practically the worst neurosurgeon I have ever encountered in my life. I'll provide back story- I had recently had 5 epidurals, about 30 sessions of PT, and unfortunately (but fortunately fell down the stairs). I called Burak from my bedroom crying - Please help me I can no longer walk because of the excruciating pain I was in. I'm bedridden. You know what he tells me? I'm sorry there is nothing I can do for you. Fast forward one week. I get an MRI and it shows a very very large herniated disc. Really ? you can't fix a simple herniated disc? Needless to say I left this pathetic excuse of a neurosurgeon and went to another. I just want to reiterate reviews that say "top doctor in OC" mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. To turn away from someone who desperately needed you is a disgrace to the medical profession. Outstanding! I suffered with excruciating, debilitating sciatic pain for 9 months. I went through the hoops- physical therapy, pain meds and finally 2 very painful spinal injections with no relief. I was in literally in hell with this. Dr. Ozgur finally concluded I needed spinal decompression surgery and got me in right away. Dr. Ozgur worked miracles with my back. It has now been 6 weeks since the surgery and I feel so much better- no more limping, and the pain is down significantly. The procedure was fast, I left the hospital the same day, and recovery has been fairly easy. Being free of the horrific pain, sit more comfortably and move around better is a wonderful thing. I consulted with 5 Orthopedic Surgeon's, including Dr. Ozgur. He was the ONLY one who covered off all the bases, vs. jumping straight to surgery. All of the other surgeons wanted to schedule surgery asap. I truly appreciated him taking to time to exhaust all avenues before surgery. He also was very patient in explaining the procedure in detail. I had surgery on 5/2/2024 which included an interbody cage installed and an L3/4 fusion and a laminotomy. The post op care by his nurse, Janneinne, was the best, she was available for any questions 24/7, even after I was discharged. I am 3.5 weeks out and doing fantastic. I only have a bit of soreness at the 3 incision sites and I still get a bit fatigued, but I am 100% so happy that I went ahead with the surgery. I'm out and about and enjoying life again. I had spine surgery at U.C.L.A 23 years ago and now the level above my fusion has gone bad. My pain management Dr. recommended that I see Dr. Ozgur so before going I researched and saw his great reviews. I went to see Dr. Ozgur and I was really impressed by his professional and confident attitude. He answered all my questions and told me he would do the surgery whenever I was ready. I am about to schedule my spine surgery and I am sure I will be in excellent hands. Update 09/02 I had 2 successful surgeries back in Feb 2021. Surgery #1 Dr. Ozgur installed 2 cages at levels L2-L3-L4 going in from the side and 2 days later surgery from the backside where he removed my old hardware from 23 years ago and installed new ones at the mentioned levels. I was on pain medication for 1 week only and start walking right away after surgery. Dr. Ozgur has a very good reputation with physical therapists and nurses at HOAG Hospital. All of them said many good things about his patients being able to start walking right away after surgery or having minimal discomfort. Absolutely THE BEST spine surgeon around. My oldest son at 16 consulted Dr. Ozgur four years ago for disc herniation issues. We were advised to try every conservative route possible which we did but after 4 continuous years of pain and degeneration Dr. Ozgur felt it was time to do disc fusion. I had the incredibly good fortune of having Dr. Ozgur consult on my case as a third opinion at the urging of my Pain Management Specialist, Dr. Lido Chen (who is a marvel in and of herself). Having been in increasingly excruciating back and left leg pain for nearly a year, no conservative measures (massage therapy, exercises, medications, injections, epidurals, etc.) had yielded any lasting results. Both my Orthopedic Surgeon and (first) Neurosurgeon---both very good physicians---agreed that my only option was a double lumbar fusion with instrumentation which I had resigned myself to and subsequently scheduled. However, just three weeks before the scheduled surgery, Dr. Ozgur was incredibly kind to make the time to review my records and consult with me. While he agreed that my records showed considerable pathology in my back, Dr. Ozgur felt the source of my actual pain could be my left sacroiliac joint and advised postponing surgery until an EMG was done for further diagnostic evidence. Indeed, the EMG isolated the pain source to this area rather than my lumbar spine. At that point, Dr. Ozgur recommended that Dr. Chen perform a non-surgical procedure called RFA-Radio Frequency Ablation as the next step, prior to considering any type of surgery and indeed, it worked amazingly! Within two days I had a 90% reduction in my pain and that was 10 weeks ago! Without Dr. Ozgur's tremendous breath of knowledge and experience, I fear I would have undergone a major surgery which would have left me in the same progressive pain, an outcome that would have no doubt sent me spiraling into depression. However, his careful consideration of the nuances of my case, combined with his wisdom and clinical skills, became a medical "game-changer" for me. Very bad experience with Dr. Ozgur. I have an established diagnosis of severe cervical stenosis at C5-C7 and a pinched nerve at L4-L5. These conditions cause severe pain in my neck, weakness in my arms, and weakness in my left leg. I provided an MRI to show Dr. Ozgur what we were dealing with, along with an EMG performed by a neurologist, to show this was not a neuromuscular disease. Despite that, he told me that my symptoms were not caused by herniated discs but possibly a neurological problem. He told me to go get another EMG. What really stuck out is that at no time did he every physically examine me, which lies very far outside of the standard of care. At one point, he said "I'm glad you have never had surgery, because that wouldn't have helped you." I went to the ALS/Neuromuscular Center at UCI and the neurologist was puzzled as to why I was there. He said this Dr. Ozgur doesn't know what he's talking about, as it's pretty apparent my symptoms are caused by herniated discs and not a neurological condition. He did an EMG anyway and it was clean, as expected. Now I am under the care of a different neurosurgeon and he has confirmed these symptoms are indeed caused by herniated discs. However, my condition continued to get worse in between the time I saw Dr. Ozgur and seeing this new doctor. What's very interesting is that the common theme with him is that he seems to enjoy performing surgeries on patients in their 80s who are at higher risk of complications but does not like to do them on patients in their 30s who are in severe pain and losing strength in their arms and legs. Imo, he's an irresponsible surgeon and would not recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr. Ozgur and his team are the best! It has been over 1 month since my microdiscectomy/laminotomy and my intense sciatic pain I used to experience down my leg is gone. Amazing! I was suffering for months from having disc herniation of 0.9mm at L4-5 along with spinal stenosis, but I am now able to walk and drive with no difficulties. Dr. Ozgur did a 1 level L5-S1 microdiscectomy on me in 2012. As a neurosurgeon he did give me time and reviewed records carefully. He was kind and polite. I was around 35 yrs old at the time, average weight and healthy except for a one level lumbar disc herniation that caused me excruciating leg pain (lifted heavy object). Back pain at the time was mild. He told me I could get a 95% success rate with surgery in relieving my pain and return to a somewhat normal life. I agreed to proceed with Micro-D surgery after failing conservative treatment for almost a year. Worst decision ever. I regret it to this day. I woke up in Hoag hospital with more horrific pain in my back than I'd ever felt my whole life. My leg pain was about 50% better but everything else was just indescribable. My pain was off the charts and 3 weeks later I could not take it anymore and was started on Oxycontin. I've never so much as had anything stronger than a tylenol or advil my whole life. Now I was on Narcotics thanks to my poor decision to go with Dr. Ozgur. My disc height had collapsed due to too much disc being removed in surgery. Anyhow after waiting a year I was told I'm eligible for disc replacement. I did that surgery and it did indeed help but pain persisted. Turns out my facets were so arthritic from the collapsed disc I suffered under Ozgurs hands that I needed to fuse over the artificial disc. Fusion did help but I still suffer daily pain. Long story short, this man changed my life for the worst. I kick myself for not going with a spine surgeon who is a lot more experienced. I'm much better than after Ozgurs original surgery but I wouldn't wish this man on my worst enemy. My apologies for being transparent but I had to get it off my chest. I cannot thank Dr. Ozgur, his PA Jordan Faulkner, his assistant Yulia, his office staff and all of the nurses, aides and physical therapists at Hoag for their exceptional care. I had a C4-7 ACDF on April 28th. When I was 19 I started having neck pain. Then I spent seven years in a combat unit in the Army, went to school and then spent the last 15 years as a critical care nurse. I've always managed to live with the pain, but when my hands went numb about a year ago I finally decided I needed to do something and was referred to Dr. Ozgur after my PCP examined me. I had several tests and three epidurals. It all added up to surgery being the best option for me. I was terrified to have this surgery but I am so glad that I did. The feeling in my hands improves daily. The aching in my neck is gone (I do have post-op pain but it's not the same and gets better daily). I am looking forward to PT to regain function in my hands. I went to see Dr. Ozgur for lumbar stenosis, selecting him based on the abundance of positive reviews and because he advertised a minimally invasive procedure for decompression, which is what I was seeking. This approach utilizes multiple small incisions to the sides of the spine rather than a large incision down the middle of the back. I asked lots of questions and specifically stated I did not want an open approach (large incision down the mid back). I was assured a minimally invasive procedure was appropriate. Julia, one of his secretaries, even sent me a nice little video of the procedure using the graduated cannulas through multiple small incisions to access the nerves, no large incision. PERFECT! Day of surgery I wake up and what do I find? A seven inch incision down the middle of my lower back! I got a copy of the operative report which stated that he made the midline incision and then used "...minimally invasive techniques..." to do the decompression. THIS IS NOT WHAT WE DISCUSSED PREOP! My pain was better for about a month and has since gotten progressively worse to the point where it is almost as bad as before the procedure. At a follow up appointment with Dr. Ozgur he told me the latest MRI showed that the issue was fully resolved and referred me to physical therapy and pain management. I would have given Dr. Ozgur 10 out of 5 stars if possible. He has recently performed back surgery on my wife that was very successful, with quick recovery and excellent results; my wife went from extreme pain to pain-free overnight. His calm and courteous demeanor and attentiveness before and after the surgery as well as his surgical skills (evident by the surgery's success and the compliments Hoag hospital staff expressed of his work!) were superb. I had surgery with Dr. Ozgur and was relieved of pain for about six months. Then the pain started again. Dr. Ozgur REFUSED TO SEE ME! I was practically crying to Julia to let me see him. Ozgur abandoned me when he had been the treating surgeon. This is deplorable. I would NEVER recommend him again. He did not even do all the things he told me he had done. Thank you, Dr Ozgur, Jordan and Yulia a million times! I would recommend this team to anyone having any kind of back pain. I had severe spinal stenosis at L3/L4 and L4/L5. I was constantly in pain, always looking for somewhere to sit down or lean on. Over the last 5 years my back pain has progressed rapidly and over the last 6 months it got to the point where I couldn't even walk 30'. I was on so much pain medication, nerve pain medication and muscle relaxers. I waited until the pain got unbearable, finally I made the decision to see Dr Ozgur and to consider going through with back surgery. I I'm a 51-year-old that is very active. I had done the pain management thing for years. I went to my 1st visit and saw his PA Jordan, who is amazing and she sent me to have a current MRI. Well my MRI came back worse than it was a year ago. After I had the MRI, I had my follow up appt to see Dr Ozgur. I walked in with my long list of questions. Before I could ask Dr Ozgur answered all of my questions, it was like he was in my head, answering my question before I could even ask it. By the time he was done talking to me I had no questions left on my list to ask him. It brought me to tears when he told me he could help me. Doctor and his staff are dedicated, kind, compassionate, diligent. The way they take care of you too is so hard to find these days. I knew I was in the right place and I knew he was going to be my surgeon when I left that appointment. He Is so confident, without being cocky and his voice, the way he talks is so reassuring, calming. Doctor has this demeanor that is amazing. The way he talks makes you feel so comfortable. 2 weeks later I had surgery and I have never had surgery in my life and had never been in the hospital except for the birth of my son. Within a few hours after surgery I was up walking around the halls of the hospital had a couple meals and went home that evening. The next 2 days after the surgery were tough but I made it through because of his staff, they walked me through it, held my hand and were always just a phone call away. Jordon talked to me whenever I needed something or even just to listen and reassure me. I was at a loss for words. Their empathy, caring and compassion showed in everything they did for me. Anytime I asked for something it was done. It's been 6 weeks since my surgery, my back and leg pains are completely gone and I'm off all the medication I was taking. I have a life again, I can walk on the beach again, I can just walk AGAIN!!!!! Thank you so much for giving me my life back. After my surgery when I was walking around through the hall at the hospital, one of the nurses ask me who my surgeon was? I told her Dr Ozgur, and she replied, "oh yeah I already knew that all of his patients recover faster and go home earlier than any other doctor." So please don't wait as long as I did, don't wait until the pain is unbearable, make an appointment and go talk to him and you'll see what I'm talking about.
