I was looking to adopt a kitten so I showed up to their kitten fair, which had been advertised for weeks on their website. When I arrived the person at the front desk told me the kitten fair had been cancelled. I decided to take a look at the cats they had. They only had three cats available. The first two cats were older and didn't seem too social. The third cat I saw, Sammy, was very energetic and playful. Sammy was a 9 month old black cat that was apparently dropped off by his owner, alongside his siblings. I went to the front desk and asked about the adoption process, which was fairly simple and easy. I spent $115 to adopt him. I changed his name from Sammy to Pluto. Me and Pluto have been together for a month and I'm very happy that I adopted him, although he can be a handful at times. He's extremely curious and loves to cuddle in bed and watch tv with me.

Lily this morning enroute from the shelter to the comfort of home:)

This morning the day after Thanksgiving was a true day of thanks! Lastnight our rescue pup Lily got loose and ran off. Sometime last night a kind soul found her at or around the 1100 block of W. Magnolia (we are on N. Pass some few miles west) and took her to the after hours Burbank Shelter who early this morning called to say Lily was safe and sound:) Words cannot express my gratitude, a true day of thanks! The officer who called me this morning was so kind and even though the shelter is closed today, she allowed me to come and get our beloved Lily:) Again I cannot as a professional writer express how grateful I am at this time.

    Pegasus 10 years after adoption.

In 2014 I adopted my best friend & daughter Pegasus (they named her Indigo) as a 4 month puppy. She was a gorgeous chihuahua staffy mix. She passed her service dog test the 1st time & we had an amazing 10 years together until she passed away from kidney failure. She accompanied me to work and play each day of her life. She was EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT & had a short smooth coat and always smelled good. I always wonder what happened to her brother who was also up for adoption and looked like her.

We adopted a dog…read morethrough spcaLA and were referred there for his neuter procedure, which was required as part of the adoption agreement. The issues began at drop-off. I arrived on time at 8:30 a.m., but there was a long line of owners and dogs waiting outside. Many of the dogs appeared to be puppies, fosters, or newly adopted pets still adjusting and difficult to manage. I waited approximately 20 minutes while trying to control my 65-pound dog. When I reached the front, staff said they had no record of our appointment and asked, in an unprofessional manner, whether I had completed the intake form that was supposedly emailed to me. I had never received it. I was then handed paperwork to complete on-site while continuing to manage my dog in a crowded environment. On the form, I disclosed that my dog had been experiencing chronic diarrhea since being picked up as a stray, that we were actively working with our veterinarian to identify the cause, and that our veterinarian had cleared him for surgery. Staff then told me they would not proceed if he had diarrhea. I explained that this condition predated the adoption, that the neuter was required by the shelter, and that we had already obtained veterinary clearance. Staff repeatedly went back and forth between me and the veterinarian before eventually presenting a high-risk consent form. The communication around this was especially concerning. When the form was presented, I was told that by signing it, I was accepting that if anything happened to my dog, it would be my fault. I understand that additional risks can exist, but this was handled in a dismissive and inappropriate manner. If the clinic had sent the intake paperwork in advance or reviewed the medical concerns beforehand, this could have been addressed prior to my driving an hour from West Adams to Van Nuys with a dog who does not travel well. I was also disappointed that additional charges were presented for items such as an e-collar, pain medication, and IV fluids. For a required adoption procedure, these added costs felt excessive. Pick-up was similarly poor. When my dog was returned, a staff member commented, "Make sure to take care of the diarrhea because he still has it," despite our earlier detailed discussion of the condition and treatment plan. While loading him into the car, I noticed feces on his cone, tail, and legs. This suggested he had soiled himself and had not been adequately cleaned before discharge, which was both upsetting and concerning from a sanitation and post-operative care standpoint. Overall, this experience reflected poor communication, lack of professionalism, and inadequate attention to patient care. I would not return to Pet Orphans of Southern California and would not recommend this clinic to others. I also plan to share this experience with spcaLA so they are aware of the concerns regarding this referral partnership.

They truly care about the well-being of the cats they rescue, and it shows in every aspect of their work. All because I asked them for proof of his vaccination and vet records because I needed to groom him after I adopted him, and because I mentioned I didn't appreciate how terribly the foster was handling him and throwing him around like a doll. I was reminded of this when I randomly got an email from them from a new email address almost a year later. I still stand by what I said, you are still blocked, and you didn't deserve the 4 stars before. My cat was so poorly mistreated by his foster that we have had to take him back and forth to the vet since adopting due to him having high stress levels and anxiety since being in her "care". He's been on prozac now for awhile and thankfully he's happy to be home with us and has an amazing life. But I could never and would never recommend this place to anyone, especially if the cat is fostered with that same lady. She handled him so rough, and I KNOW that's where his anxiety stemmed from with the way I saw her scruff him and throw him to the ground to shove an unmarked, unwrapped pill from the bottom of her purse down his throat. This DID happen. My cat is lucky to have ended up in a home where he is cared for and loved properly. But that lady should be so ashamed and should not be allowed to foster any animal ever. I mean it was so bad they labeled him as having a cream colored coat - he's pure white, they just kept him so dirty that you couldn't tell. Shame on you. My cat is the sweetest boy who deserves all the love and finally gets to know peace as we unlearn all the trauma this place gave him.
