Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The restaurant, while always packed and busy, did not have a lot of a wait time. I live in the neighborhood and have been eating at Burger Up since they opened. They used to be excellent. The restaurant has been through a lot over the years, but previously the quality of food held up. Unfortunately over the past year and a half or so, the food just keeps getting worse with every order. It's almost as if their heart just isn't in it anymore. The most recent burger, just wow. Two soggy bottoms for the bun. Meat that managed to be pink in the middle yet dry as a bone (almost like they are now using an inferior quality cut.) Foil-wrapped to-go burgers have become a way of life for me these days. Burger Up's takeout game is strong -- my go-to, the Double Up burger, is just as delicious at home as it is in the restaurant. The burger is taller than it is wide. So every bite is a mouthful. The two beef patties are lightly seasoned. But thanks to the high quality of beef, they don't need a lot. They were cooked a little unevenly, but no part was too over- or under-cooked. The slices of American cheese were oozing off the sides of the patties like lava. The thick crinkle-cut pickles added a vinegary tang to each bite. I wish the onions were grilled, but they were so thin that they didn't have much of an impact on the sandwich. I believe there was a bit of the delicious house dijonnaise sauce on top, but not enough to stand out. Thankfully, it came on the side as well. The side of sweet potato fries was HUGE. Easily enough for two people. They're hand-cut and a tad bit "mushy," which I like but I know others don't. The sweetness of the potatoes paired with the sprinkling of salt on top. My bag also included a cup of what I believe is their house ketchup. It's a little watery and has a smoky, tomato-esque flavor that is familiar, but I can't think of what it is. It's okay in moderation. Burger Up, as always, gets two thumbs up from me. read more

Had high hopes but was just barely happy with my sub optimal burger & rings. Had the Black and Blue burger and while the meat was cook as expected the blue cheese was sadly almost non existent. The bun was warm and soft and was the star. The Onion Ring Tower sounded promising and looked nice but the rings were over cooked and basically fell apart with each bite to show only a sliver of a tasteless supposedly vadalia onion. The prices would have been very fair if the quality was better. I really love the 12-South neighborhood and it's because of spots like this. Burger Up is not just another trendy burger place, it's a great spot to kick-back, sip a drink and mellow out. The Black and Blue burger is a thick blackened burger patty with crumbled blue cheese, red onion and arugula. It seems a little plan, but the flavors were amazing and the blue cheese didn't overpower the beef. This portion is huge by the way, so eat half and take the rest home for a second meal! The Mac n' cheese bites, were ok, but seem over-fried and the batter was heavy. These are served with maple ketchup which was very good! Their beer selection is decent and they have a full bar, prefect for a Bloody Mary brunch. This place does get busy so be ready wait during peak times or use Yelp's No Wait which is what we did and it was a game changer! We walked right in, past a large group and sat down. Burger Up is one of the most consistent restaurants in Nashville! I've lived here for 10 years and visited over a dozen times, and I've never had a bad experience. The soft lit glow gives off a perfect moody environment and the burgers, salads, etc have always been fantastic. I'm not a big ketchup fan, but I would drink their house made ketchup with a straw. If you're from out of town, Burger Up is a staple here and one of the best restaurant experiences you can have. read more

The crowd soon picked up, so the atmosphere was very festive but not over the top. The service was excellent and very attentive. The food was fast, fresh, and delicious. I had the Mr Lewis Patty Melt, which was perfect for a cold December night. My wife had the Troyathon and was very satisfied with it. This place is delicious and the staff is very friendly! Brian was our server, and he was very attentive! They also have a solid rotating beer list that was pretty good! We ordered the French onion burger and the chicken sandwich. Loved the fact that they both came with a pickle on the side! So good. The burger was cooked how we asked, medium rare, and was flavorful and juicy. The chicken sandwich was also tasty, but I do think it was missing a little something. They did have the best homemade ketchup I've ever had at a restaurant. It had a little peppery kick! Also both the sweet potato fries and regular were great, and a large portion. We will be back! I was impressed and would go back but it isn't at the top of my list. A good spot if you are in the area though. The bartenders were really friendly, telling me about the different menu items and the special sauces. The place was packed so a lot of people must love it a lot! They had a nice selection of specialty drinks and the bartenders were making them with love. I got the double stack burger with fries. All was good and I would eat it again but if I go back I would probably get a specialty burger. That special ketchup and honey aioli! Those were the stars of the night. Solid burger place but nothing to rave about. The meat and toppings in the burgers are good if you get a specialty burger but they do get messy fast and are on the smaller side. The quinoa burger is unique and pretty tasty. The buns are... meh. However, the fries and onion rings are great. If you go during happy hour there is a large selection of really good appetizers for great prices. I recommend the fry flight and the onion rings. The seating area is cute since you're right in 12 south and there is a lot of natural light, and there is a covered outdoor seating area as well (small though). I have been a few times and unfortunately the service is usually sub par. The hosts at the front are disinterested and it's almost awkward when you walk in because they don't greet you or prompt you to ask for a table. There are a lot of servers in the restaurant but they typically hang around the kitchen and don't check up on the table much. read more

It had been a while and I was nearby so I stopped in with my wife to see if that changed. My first impression was not good. My wife went to go in and forgot her mask in the car. Look, we don't care about wearing masks and forgetting really was accidental. It also doesn't bother us to go back and get it. What sucks, is that if we aren't going to be allowed in unless wearing one then that rule should apply to everyone. When we sat at the table, 10 seconds after walking through the restaurant to an outside table, we took them off again. No big deal. But while we ate, we observed every worker at the restaurant standing around the bar with their masks off, some walking around the almost empty restaurant and even the greeter at the door took hers off while working. I want to respect rules, but if the rule is do as I say not as I do, then I'm not gonna respect it. As for the waitress and food they were both good. Our waitress was on top of things and very polite. (White girl with red curls.) The food was pretty good. My wife loved her chicken sandwich. My burger was overcooked and dry but I still enjoyed it. So is my opinion different than the last several times I've been here? Not really. Uneven customer service with pretty good food. But I'd still rather go to the other Burger Ups. One more thing: fix the lint issue on your towels! This has been a problem for a couple years now. The lint gets everywhere! So yummy!! I was on my way to the movies, found this restaurant on Yelp, jumped in the No Wait line, and headed that way. I was able to park for free alongside a side street within a block of the restaurant. I'm so glad I joined the No Wait line, because they were super busy when I arrived! When I walked in, the best part of this restaurant is the beautiful ambiance! Picnic style tables with dainty candles on them, so cute/romantic! This is an awesome place to just sit back, relax, and enjoy a good burger, with good company. For my meal, I ordered a bacon burger that was good. I wasn't that impressed with the overall burger, but the beef pattie was absolutely delicious, and cooked very well! Now for the fries... magically delicious! They were perfectly cooked in every way! This was a really good burger spot. Inviting atmosphere that initially threw us off with the candles at first. Burgers and candles? Not so fast, this is the real deal! I got the patty melt and subbed the rye bread for a potatoes bun (per the servers recommendation). So, basically just a burger I guess? The beef was cooked just right and the remoulade was very tasty. The cheese was melted perfectly and the entire ensemble just kind of dissolved in your mouth. It was the kind of burger that you want to savor every last bite. Part of you doesn't even want to eat because you don't want to be left chasing the flavor. As far as the fries go, not my style. They're good quality, but they are the over done kind that I just don't prefer. Good for what they are but nothing to write to your mother about. I ordered to go the classics without mustard and the woodstock. It was cooked perfectly not dry, the bun was nice nice and soft and butter. I really enjoyed that burger.
