For lunch, it's busy, so that says a lot of folks enjoy this place. Since it was busy, it took a minute to get our food, but the wait wasn't annoying long. Mama Burgess is 97 years old and still cooking in the back. Worth the trip up the ATM to get cash. The burgers are old school drive in style and very tasty. Onion burger was good, I expected a mom & pop establishment to have real french fries but theirs were the frozen kind you stick in the oven, 1/2 were soft & I want crispy. As far as I'm concerned, Burgess Grill has the best hamburgers in the world. I've never found another place that compares. Their classic, old fashioned cheeseburger is as good as it gets. Save room for lemon meringue pie! Burgess is a true Lawton classic. read more

The food is always fresh and never overcooked. The portions of the meals are very generous as well. The staff is always very accommodating. If you don't see it on the menu, you can always ask about a substitute. The facility is always nice and clean. There are photos and paintings everywhere, which gives it that "Diner" feel. Wow. This place is AMAZING! Hubby and I were looking for something different to try, since we dont live in Lawton. Checked on Yelp, saw it had like 62 great reviews and decided to give it a try. Oh. My. Goodness. SO glad we did. Hubby got the Crunchy burger, which had a horseradish sauce and onion rings...it was HUGE and he devoured it..lol I got the Pepperburger...which was AWESOME! It too was huge, and had green chilis, jalapeno relish and pepperjack...whoa. ON POINT. The place was clean, the servers were friendly and the food is amazing. We'll definitely come back! This place is a pretty good lunch date place. I went with my husband & I came in on a random day ordered the exact same lunch menu which was an extraordinary burger ( forgot the name completely). Sooo delicious!! we also ordered fried pickles. Which were thick and juicy but at the same time I would not order them again because the breading was a little too thick. I've been coming to Burgess Grill since I was a kid. The menu hasn't changed much and that's for good reason. You come to Burgess to get a quality burger. Yes, the patties might not be the monstrosities that we are used to from chain restaurants, but the beef is delicious and the toppings are plentiful. It can be very busy around the lunch rush, but if I go anytime after 12:30 I can usually be in and out in less than 30 minutes. The food was awesome. Tasty and delicious. My only concern is that the employees or not employees but 1 in particular does drugs. I walked into the bathroom and was shock to what I saw. I believe I shock the waitress as well. But I am a member to a church which I won't mention so, no I would never recommend this place until I'm sure that there are random drug test on all the waitress. I'm not judging but I refuse to return until this matter is taken care of. It's a shame since the food was outstanding. read more

The food was ok, nothing special at all and not worth any hype. The waitress got my daughter's order wrong and refused to fix it. Everyone at the table knew what she had ordered, we looked at the menu before going to make it quick. She offered to bring the right said dwhich, but we would have to pay for both. Burgess Grill serves a wide variety of burgers. They have a ton of options and most likely can make a burger with whatever toppings you want. They also have asian influenced food, but i have not personally tried any of it. They are known for the burgers. The burgers are delicious and it is often packed at lunch as a result. Within Lawton I would argue that they are the best burgers you can get, especially if you like them with lots of extras. Inside the restaurant it gets fairly packed at lunch and getting service can be a pain. More often than not you will be waiting longer to order and get refills on drinks than any other part of the actual meal. Also they only take cash, but there is an ATM at the bank adjacent if you decide to go at the spur of the moment. It is also only open for work day lunch, so do not try to go for dinner or the weekends. Overall I enjoy going there for a great burger, but the crowd, long waits, and need to pay with cash keep me from going as often as I would like. read more

These burgers are amazing, cooked to perfection, dripping all over the place, the French fries are crisp, and salted properly. I have always enjoyed the food, but there has been a couple time I can think of the staff has not been friendly, but over all most of the staff is pretty good, a few bad apples should not ruin the batch. Plus it seems the bad ones don't stick around long. I do not mind the cash only operation, makes it easier. Overall I still give this place a five star rating. read more

I was born and raised in Lawton and know Sue/Dana personally and would've eaten here every day if I could have. The burgers and fries are literally the best I've ever had in my life and the mark by which I have judged all other burgers and fries since I left Lawton and lived several other places. I still have yet to find a burger that comes close to this. It is always a treat now when I come through Lawton to visit and this is the place I must come not only to eat but to say hi to everyone and catch up. I must also say that the best chocolate pie I've ever had is here and a few times in college I remember buying a complete pie to take back to the dorms at Cameron. It's just one of those places that you can't explain and have to go to with the old school customer service and classic diner ambiance. HANDS DOWN - The Best Burger in Lawton I know for Lawton that's not necessarily saying a whole lot - but with the recent addition of The Backporch , Jak's Cafe and the White Buffalo to Lawton's repertoire of locally owned burger joints as well as the nationally recognized Meers Store/Restaurant we actually have a pretty decent selection to choose from. And as good(or bad) as any of these places might be they all don't quite live up to what Burgess Grill has to offer. Aside from being owned and operated by some of the nicest people you will meet they offer up some of the best burgers you can buy at a very reasonable price. The atmosphere is very relaxed, clean and bright. I would advise avoiding this place during lunch hour as it will be very busy and make sure to bring cash with you since they don't take credit/check. My only real complaint would be their early closing time of 4 p.m. My favorite dish would have to be the Flame Burger with tatertots and an extra cup of flame sauce to dip in on the side. The name might be intimidating but they manage to achieve a perfect balance of heat, spice and flavor that doesn't overwhelm. So if you happen to be in the downtown/mall area do not pass this place up. You will not be disappointed. read more

This place was HANDS DOWN fantastic and delicious! Talk about good service and delicious food. I thought Jersey diners were good but this place was REALLY good. We got the omelette with mushrooms and onion, side of hash browns, and my brother got a double...something cheeseburger with tater tots. Also got a side of wheat toast with blackberry jam. Honestly get anything here. The food tasted fresh and clean and truly felt like grandma's food on a cold, winter morning. Highly recommend!! The owner apparently has been working here for 50+ years and also prepped our food. Makes it feel even more special. The waitresses were super nice and engaging too. Was visiting a friend in Lawton this past August, and looked up places to eat and this place definitely did not disappoint! Great food, nice portions and good prices. I'm from a big city (Houston) so it was a change of atmosphere for me, more of a small diner from the movies. You could see the waitresses knew many of their regulars by name, we got great service as well. So great that we decided to come back before heading back on the road. Would definitely recommend. Food was excellent! Couldn't have asked for a better burger! This restaurant is extremely busy during lunch time though. We arrived at 12, and didn't get our burgers until 12:55!
