It was post-lunch, 2:00'ish, all of the food was dry, wasn't attended to, hadn't been stirred or refreshed quite obviously in awhile, which sadly had become common; but this time the flies were having quite the party on all of the open food and serving spoons. I've ate there before. Burger Haus has one of the best buffets in mid Missouri for my opinion!! I love their ham and mashed potatoes and gravy!! Great peach cobbler too!! I love their pulled pork!! When Mike owned and operated Burgher Haus for many decades, they stayed open later and opened earlier. The service was personal and friendly. I went to Burgher Haus a few weeks after his son took over the and the food was more expensive, the servings were smaller, and the quality was just not very good. The 'new' owners remodeled the restaurant, but lessened the hours they were open. I live in Jefferson City and drive to California to eat at Burgher Haus. the last two times I drove over there (about 18 miles), they were closed. Once was a Saturday at about 6:00 p.m. and the other time was a Sunday about 1:30 p.m. I checked the doors and windows for hours charts and notifications of why they were closed. I found the list of Business Hours but no reason for them being closed during business hours. The next time I got ready to go (a Saturday about 2:00 p.m.), i wised up and called first. Unfortunately, after 16 rings, no one answered. I tried another 10 or 12 times over the next hour and, since no one answered, I gave up. I did call again about 6:30 p.m. and after about eight rings, a male answered the phone by saying, "Burgher Haus...what do you need?" I was surprised by the answer, so I said, "Hello?" and the guy said, "Calk back when you know what you want!" and hung up. I haven't been back since then and am not sure I will go back. Out of curiosity, I just called and asked about the business hours for this weekend. They did answer(!!!) and I was told they close at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday and he THINKS they close at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday but he wasn't sure. He works there but doesn't know their hours of operation! The first time I ate here I was REALLY impressed! I am a fan of patty melts but the 2nd time I ate one from here I was really disappointed. There was a VERY tangy sauce on my patty melt that made it not taste like a patty melt at all. Its close to home that's what I really like that. Used to be great quality food and consistent hours under previous owner when we'd drive through California, but son has taken over and $$ appears to be the driving force now. Food quality has deteriorated the two times they were open and son must not be paying employees very well because this place has been closed during the day several times recently when we went through town with signs saying they have staffing issues. read more

My wife and I had the buffet after reading a review. My first bite into the catfish I knew there was something wrong. I thought I licked an ashtray. I put it down and took a bite of the chicken. Same ash taste. I looked at my wife as she pushed her plate away. I looked around as others chomped away. The mash potatoes were not good either. We settled for salads and hit the road. Great place to eat! We went there for lunch and let me say that their buffet is amazing. First of all, all of the salad and hot food items were fresh and there was such a variety. There was fried chicken, tacos, fish and freshly sliced roast. Then the dessert options were plentiful as well. I tried the bread pudding and it was amazing. Plus, they have Central Dairy ice cream that is included with the buffet price. I got the impression that the options change daily. The cost was like 7 bucks for the buffet. I was tempted to get one of their burgers as they looked good and were only like 4 bucks. Will definitely be back if ever out that way again. read more

From the moment we stepped through the door, we felt like we were dining at our family's house. The man taking our order, Dakota, was so friendly and welcoming. The rest of the employees were very friendly too. There was a young girl there named Gabby, I think. She was so sweet. My son spilled his drink almost as soon as we got to our table, he was embarrassed but Dakota came and cleaned the mess up with a smile, making my son feel more at ease. The food was great. The food bar was kept clean and well stocked with fresh, hot food. The plates we ordered were cooked to order but were delivered quickly. We will definitely be back again. read more

The food could have been a little better in quality, but it was still quite good. Their ham/smoked pork steaks were awesome. I found the chicken a little under seasoned. I live in Sedalia and my mom was working in Jeff City for the week so we wanted to meet somewhere as close to in between as possible. After jumping on yelp we found this place. Well honestly we were a little apprehensive (we are more of healthy eating/ethnic cuisine people) but decided to go for it. Sooooo glad we did! This is the best small business to eat at in this area. No alcohol. The Jr. Bacon Cheesburger that has thousand island/mayo sauce, fresh veggies, is my favorite. A 1/2 tea and 1/2 lemonade is the best drink. read more

Fun little local piece of California, MO. It's been around for quite a while and the buffet is good. It's a nice place to have some home cooked food. The seating is kind of cramped but not unmanageable. They have great burgers and both of my kids got full off of the buffet. Self service soda out in the lobby is nice for the refills.
