Complimentary bread

Great cafe on high street in Jeff City. It can get busy at times as it seems to be the restaurant of choice for those working in the capital. Soup and bread were good but were salty. The tuna was the star of the show -- not spicy, came with two great sides and was delicious. They also have a great selection of desserts, the brownie was gooey and warm. Awesome ending to our dinner. They have a revolving daily soup etc. selection. Look at their facebook page for updates!

Warm Pimento Cheese Dip

I can't believe Grand Cafe has been there for 12 years, and I just go there for dinner. Dawn was an amazing server. Very friendly and took great care of us. We were there for our 2nd anniversary dinner. We started out with the warm pimento cheese dip. Was a little fluffier than I expected but very good. The husband had the 10 oz filet with the lemon butter. I wasn't sure about lemon on steak, but it was delicious. The green beans with bacon were like my grandmother use to make. I got the last serving of housemade seafood ravioli with a crab sauce and grilled chicken on top. It was so good! There were chunks of scallops and whole popcorn shrimp inside. That is fresh! We finished off with the gooey butter cake brownie and a scoop of homemade ice cream. It is an explosion of sweet goodness. Definitely stop by and see Dawn and have a fabulous dinner.

Italian sandwich, warm. Delicious!!

We stopped here today, on the way through Missouri. So glad! A very quaint café, very clean, friendly staff, and wonderful food! We had an Italian sandwich with a salad and the salmon, toastini with their house made fries. Everything was awesome! And large servings, too! Looking forward to going back!

Good food and atmosphere. Clearly frequented by state employees and legislators. Convenient to capitol area. Went late and had no problems.

Love this little hole in the wall that offers an awesome menu with gluten free options!read more

My buddy and I were looking for a lunch spot in Jefferson City. We came across what looked like a…read morehole in the wall that was a food truck and they are now a brick and mortar place. We looked over the menu and saw they had sweet tea. More on that in a moment. That's important for Bama Boys. The menu is pretty simple with pulled pork, wings, and burgers. I went with a full order of wings. 10 wings were $20. I thought that was pretty high though they were terrific! I chose them to be naked and had DAT Honey, Spicy BBQ, and Sweet and Spicy on the side. DAT Honey was a superb sauce especially mixed with the homemade ranch. The other 2 sauces were good too. Now back to the sweet tea. As I came in thinking I was going to get a fresh-brewed homemade sweet tea turned out to be purchasing a bottle of that abomination of sweet tea known as Gold Peak. It was comical how fast I told the guy at the register I would rather take a water. Then I receive a bottled water from Sam's. The owner did throw in a cookie for me to offset the price. But I wasn't impressed with the drink options. The service was good though! I really debated between a 3 and a 4 rating but the most important thing to me about a restaurant is making sure my food tastes amazing. JQ's delivered on that and plus the service was friendly and fantastic. I didn't like the price of 10 wings or the drink options but if you don't mind that, JQ's is a solid lunch spot.

Meg behind the bar was amazing and quickly took my drink and food orders, giving me recommendations. I enjoyed a couple local beers as well as the combination salad, but the real winner here was the clam Bisque which was loaded with mushrooms. Portions were very large. Conversation at the bar with the locals was awesome, would definitely come back for some great food, drink, and company.

And I loved the cranberry pecan salad we had as a starter, which made me really hopeful for the meal itself. But beyond that our experience was so disappointing. We got the lobster ravioli and the zesty pasta. I appreciated the ample veggies included with my meal, but the food was overall so bland I could have made it better at home, and that is saying something. The ambiance wasn't great, and I was overheated the entire time, to the point I was eager to leave just because it was so hot. I like to take my time with a meal, and it's a bad sign if I want to rush out of there. We probably would have stayed for more drinks but like I say, we were simply eager to leave. We wont be back unfortunately.
