I stopped by here earlier today with my wife for lunch. We had been to the Zelionople location of Burgher's a long time ago, even before they started brewing beer, and liked it so I was exited to come here. Burghers' Brewing is location on Butler St and the setup here consists of two levels. The lower level just has seating while the upper level has a bar as well. It feels industrial with the concrete floors, exposed I beam and ductwork and in truly Pittsburgh fashion, they have their chairs colored black and gold, alternating of course. As I often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I decided to go with a flight here which consists of four 5 ounce pours. For my four choices I went with the Farkleberry Tart, Fern Room, Flying off the bridge and then the smoke control. I started off with the Farkleberry Tart which itself was tart to start off with, true to its name, with the fruit coming in at the finish with more of the cherry present than the blackberry. Second was the Fern Room which was smooth to start out with before a little hops come through and then a finish of the pine resin. Flying off the bridge was third and was hoppy from start to finish. Last but not least was Smoke control and you could get smoke on the nose as you bring it up for a drink. The first part of the sip is smooth and then comes the smoke with a bit of bitterness before the smoke takes over and continues through the finish. Out of the bunch, I liked the Farkleberry tart and the fern room with the fern room coming in tops for me. Then for my lunch I went with Maggie's Farm while my wife went with the Polish Hill. The menu described my burger as smoked gouda, horseradish, caramelized onion, roasted chilies, rum aioli and my wife's as cheddar, caramelized onion, pierogi, mayo. Our burgers here ended up being the smash burger type and they were cooked nicely to keep the burger juicy. The buns were toasted so it didn't fall apart and the toppings were good. I could taste the smoked Gouda throughout as well as the caramelized onions. In the middle of the burger I got a small bit of heat off the chiles and then only in a single bite could I taste the horseradish. Even though I think I could see the rum aioli, I never did get any rum flavor from it, which was fine by me. My wife also thought her burger was good as well and enjoyed the pierogi in it. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I thought that both my burger and beer were good and would be interested in trying their James beard competition winning burger. read more

On our weekly weekend trip to "The Strip" we decided to visit Burgh'ers Brewing. Mainly because the burgers have been getting some traction on the socials with pictures. Decided to sit at the bar to drink/eat only because the seating area here is ultra generic. Not a bad thing with the huge windowed views but it's something that just felt "Right". Getting to that "Right" feeling we were happily tended by Jack at the bar. 5 Stars to you BTW dude. Extremely professional and had excellent recommendations paired with prompt service with a constant smile. The NYC Pizza conversation was one i'll never forget and i thoroughly appreciate the 412 recommendations! Now to the food. Specifically the burgers. "Smash" burgers seem to be all the rage now. TBTH i haven't been really "WOW'D" by any of the recent locations here in Pittsburgh. Until now. Decided on the "Fox Chapel" Burger (pictured) that consists of "#theblend, goat cheese, mixed greens, pickled onion, & balsamic reduction" (they do NOT skimp on the goat cheese here). Now don't get me wrong, this burger was FANTASTIC... but made me question why on earth didn't I get the standard Cheeseburger with all the toppings (LTO)?! These "smashed" burgers are THAT good. And I fully intend to revisit again to order the "Standard". Pretty stoked about even thinking about that. Other than the burger I will say that the French Fries here are 5 Star. Thinly cut and perfectly fried. Mayonnaise was a little too white for my liking so guessing they use a Miracle Whip variant. Not bad though. I did have a bite of their Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich and although that wasn't bad... it didn't blow my taste buds away like their "Smash" burger did. Final verdict. I'm coming back FOR SURE to try their "Basic" Smash Burger. They are taking this recent craze seriously and doing an absolutely GREAT job at it. 4.5 stars. Walk in as a party of 5 this past Sunday at 6pm. Decent crowd despite the lack of any specials, which they offer on Saturdays. Our server was a machine. Ready to serve and quick! Nice without being overly friendly. Beer list is fantastic. We loved the Nickelodeon Hazy IPA and their Dopplebock. Reasonable prices for pints and beer to go. Tried to get 32oz to go but they were out of glassware. Menu is decent with the burgers being the main attraction here. I got the Oakland (two thin patties, american, steamed onion, pickle, mojo sauce) with the option to have the protein 70% beef and 30% mushroom, and it was fantastic. I ordered the rosemary fries for the $2 up charge and it was dry rosemary flakes (some whole needles) scattered on the fries. Most just fell off and it was not worth it at all. Skip the upgrade. I let the cooks know how great my burger was and the only real response I received with one of the guys was how my daughter was looking in his direction and made a point to be sorta creepy. Great place for delicious smash burgers and craft beer! Came here with some friends to watch the penguins game and have dinner. Unfortunately despite having tv screens all around the restaurant, only the ones at the bar are connected to watch sports. We were still comfortable and able to sit the 6 of us on the metal bar stools and the bartender came to us immediately. I ordered the Farkleberry Tart beer and it was a deliciously smooth sour. It had great flavors of bluepberry and cranberry that blended into a refreshing sip. This drink only came in 12oz though for $8, which is a bit pricey for a night of hanging out at the restaurant. For dinner I ordered the Mexican War Street burger. It was very flavorful and juicy. I loved the roasted chilies on top, the hint of cilantro, and the creamy burger sauce that blended it all together into a delicious bite! The burger beef patty itself was delicious, but only one thin smashburger, where I've experienced most smashburger restaurants give 2 stacked. The good thing is the burger comes with a large side of crisp and seasoned fries to fill you up. We had a great lunch here the other day. The smash burgers are very tasty! They have plenty of pre made options cutely named after different Pittsburgh neighborhoods. You can also make your own which I did. The caramelized onions and roasted chiles were so good! I'm kind of particular about onions but these were perfectly soft and caramelized. They also have their burghers sauce which is like a big Mac sauce and very good, and the mojo is that sauce with Siracha (so a little spicy!). They also have their draft beers listed on TVs around the place. Our server was very nice and the food was very good. We got a good portion of fries with each sandwhich too which was nice. The pop (soda) is canned or bottled, so just keep that in mind (not free refills from a fountain). The inside is cute and comfortable with a nice black and gold theme. Ordered online through Yelp with pickup about 45 minutes later. I have no problem with the wait taking 45 minutes so please don't misconstrue this less-than-5-star review as me being impatient. Frankly, I'm just glad they're still around given the current Covid climate and that 45 minute wait gave me time to run another errand. We got to the restaurant about 5 minutes before the pickup window and sat in our car waiting for the 'ready' notification. Got the notification, walked in, and grabbed our grub. The bag was lukewarm which got my attention a bit since I knew that no one had come or gone since I pulled up and my order was the only one on the counter. Went back to the car to inspect and found the fries to be soggy and cold and the burgers had little to no heat emanating from them. (Wouldn't have been a big deal if I had gotten delivery since that's the price you pay for convenience, but I wanted to eat them hot and fresh which is why I picked up.) Decided to take it home and nuke it. To the restaurant/burger's credit, the flavors came together well and I enjoyed the green chili on the one burger. Toppings were fresh and burgers were cooked to our specifications. It was a solid tasting burger. Unfortunately freshness/temperature aside, this isn't a $14 dollar burger in my mind. Review based off of take-out. Ordering online was simple, and it was ready in time. Online ordering asked for names (really comes in handy for large orders) buy when I picked up the manager wrote numbers next to the orders rather than the name. I ordered the impossible BYO burger, it ended up being the most expensive item with its gluten free bun & egg (both additional). Everyone else enjoyed their burgers, a few people complained about the fries. Again, ordering take out I feel like you don't get the true experience. I had the rosemary fries, although flavorful they weren't the best for takeout because they were cold and hard by the time I was able to eat them. I ordered pickled onions on my burger, but had caramelized. Also, we ordered 15 ketchup packets, and one additional $ dipping sauce and none of those things made it in to our takeout bags. read more

I ordered the Fox Chapel. My only minor complaint was I ordered sauce instead of balsamic and didn't get it (still got balsamic). Lemme tell ya - the 30% mushrooms for the meat mix is 100% better than meat alone!!!!! OMG it was amazing!!! My wife got the Pittsburgher and was pretty unhappy. She thought her burger was dry and bland. Both of our burgers were cold - we had placed our orders to go and showed up at the pickup time given. The food was already sitting on the counter waiting for me to grab it. No warmer no nothing. It's only a short walk to where we ate so I'm guessing the food was ready long before we were told that it would be ready. I'd like to give it another try but eat in and see if it's hotter. Visited this restaurant for the second time since right after the opening. My rating is still 4 stars. We visited on a Sunday at lunch time. Parking wasn't too bad -off street. I decided to build my own burger and was pleased. I love that the restaurant offers Red Ribbon beverages!!! Coke in a bottle is also an option which is great because we were able to take it with it when we departed!! My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken sandwich and was raving about it. Took over an hour just to take our order. Not thrilled with what we got vs what we ordered

This was part of a brewery tour my boyfriend and I did. We hadn't even heard of this place until a few weeks before. A burger joint that started making beers? Why not. We went expecting to see mostly basic styles and nothing to stand out. It was easily the best beers of the day. We hit the spot up during happy hour. There was a fair number of people at the bar but not many at the tables. It was a Wednesday. The bartenders were on top of it. Service was prompt and they noticed and refilled water glasses. We ordered some French fries to munch on with our beers. They are half off for happy hour. We ordered the rosemary fries for something different. If you are a fan of rosemary go for it. The fries were crisp and flavorful and there was a lot of rosemary. We ordered a flight of four beers to try a variety. Belgian Block - This golden ale was delicious. The banana notes really come through. This is smooth and easy drinking. It drinks easier than the ABV suggests. I would definitely drink this, especially on a hot day when I want a lighter style. Grand Duchy - This was a solid porter. I always am skeptical when I see cherry in the description since I have found it to be a tricky ingredient in beer. This was my least favorite of the flight. However, I think that says more about the other beers than this one. Oat Black Water - This is a very good stout. I do tend to go for dark beers. It was smooth and had great roasted notes. Oat Black Water Barrel Reserve - Easily the best beer. You still get all the roasty flavors of the original, but the aging with maple kicks up the sweetness and brings out the chocolate notes more. You definitely pick up the notes from the barrel. Overall this was four solid beers and a good experience. I'm not sure how often they change styles but I will check the list to see what new ones they come up with. Although I would go back and drink any of the four I had today. read more

We stopped in for dinner after a hockey game. We were added to the wait list which we were told would be about 30 mins which gave us some time to enjoy a walk around the neighborhood. We reviewed the "your table is ready" text 20 mins later. The restaurant has a nice layout with a decent amount of seating despite how small it appears from outside. They have bar seating as well. The menu has some great options including some 'healthier' choices. We opted for the grilled chicken sandwich, the Pittsburgher, and the Fox Chapel which all came with fries. Everyone loved their selection! The fries are worth a special shout out. Cooked to perfection! A bit salty but amazing. The 'Brewing' part of the business is keeping up with some tasty beer choices. I went with the sour and my wife went with 1890 Lager. Soooo good. Finally, I'd like to mention the excellent service. Genuinely friendly and professional. We stopped at Burgh'ers for lunch recently and had a great experience. We have been here probably 5 times total over the last couple years, and had a negative takeout experience in the past. I don't eat meat, so this isn't usually my first choice...but they do have an impossible burger. My boyfriend raves about their smashburgers, especially the Polish Hill: cheddar cheese, caramelized onion, pierogi, mayo. They had Joe's peach tea on the menu which was new to me. We really enjoyed it. I made my own burger this time with the impossible burger, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and Burgher's sauce. They use Martin's potato buns here which are our favorite! I got mine with a side salad with their homemade garlic dressing. I've never gotten a salad as a meal here before, but I would try it just based on how much I love the dressing. It comes with bleu cheese crumbles which is a nice touch too. My boyfriend got his with fries, although one of us usually gets their mac and cheese. The fries were super, super salty, but were good with the burgers. Our server was awesome and the food came super quick! I noticed new additions in the restaurant since pre covid. The murals on the wall and hanging baskets made it look refreshed and less industrial. I liked seeing the beer menu on the tv screen, but I see how that could be inconvenient for people that have a hard time seeing. An older man behind us had to get up from his table to get close enough to the tv to read it. You could also scan a qr code on your table to see the drink menu, but I think having a print out could be beneficial too. I went here because a good friend was a fan of their 3-6pm happy hour. The beer was just ok, and the food was sub-par. My friend had the Korean BBQ wings and was not a fan at all--being a vegan, I did not try them myself, but according to him the texture was off and the sauce was not enough to make up for that. I ordered a vegan version of the Korean BBQ chicken (aka impossible nuggets with BBQ sauce on the side) and I was bummed to be served 5 tiny nuggets. The worst part of this trip was that one very hard working server was managing the entire restaurant. He did great, but: Dude. Get a job somewhere that will not make you work so hard without backing you up with a full staff! read more

This place has been on my radar for some time now. I have heard people talk of it for a long time just making my wait that much longer. It's like when you want something, but you just can't have it and having it rubbed in your face. I like this place and the way it looks. It's sleek, and minimal. Nothing flashy about it, so modern like. The day that I came here it must have been between busy hours which afforded us the chance to just walk in and sit wherever we wanted. We chose the bar which made for quick service all around. The menu is straightforward. You basically pick what you want, the description is point on which leaves nothing to be questioned. Which is probably why I had a hard time deciding exactly what I wanted. But I did end up making a good decision. I went with the Morningside Burger, that's another thing to love about this place, all the burgers are named after the many different neighborhoods in the city. More of a play on words than the neighborhood, the Morningside Burger is basically what it sounds like. Plain and simple, bacon, egg and cheese. Add some mayo and you got yourself a pretty amazing burger. A perfectly smashed burger, seasoned so well and when those toppings are there, it's amazing. A tip if you do get this, go with the dippy egg. When that yolk breaks you get a little extra added bonus. As for the side, just go with the fries. There are other sides you can get, but they won't be like these fries. Pierogies, mac n cheese, rosemary fries, slaw, mixed greens salad; push them all to the side and go with the fries. They are definitely hand cut. No two fries are alike as they are cut literally by hand. You may get a small fry but the next one may look like a steak fry. Reminds me of doing something like that at home. And who could pass up a cold one with this meal? Not I. I had the 1890 draft. This thing tasted so light to me. Smooth and easy going. Coming from nearby Zelienople it is a house brewed beer. One thing to also note here is that they do deliver, with a small fee. read more

I'm not a big burger fan, but recent trips to Moonlit Burgers has brought me around. One Sunday when fewer places were open, I agreed to go to Burgh'ers Brewing and try one of their smash burgers. It's a nice atmosphere, heavy on the Pittsburgh theme, and the burgers and fries did not disappoint. Beers were good, and nicely complemented the burgers. I'm still not a big burger fan, but it's good to know I can make my husband (who is) happy by returning to Burgh'ers. read more

I gave this place one more shot. I've had multiple bad experiences here. I never had an issue at there location up north. But for some reason, every time I'm at their Lawrenceville location, it's never good. We ordered three burgers to go. Each of the burgers tasted like someone spilled an entire shaker of salt on them. The menu offers an interesting take on burgers, but we would have liked a bit more detail, e.g. what's the #theblend (meat and mushroom patty as our waitress answered when we inquired). As someone who doesn't crave meat, the mushroom mix was appreciated. The Mexican War had chillies in the patty, which offered a nice kick. The food was a decent size and I'm a fan of places that offer side salads in lieu of fries as a no charge option. The buns are very basic potato buns. I'd recommend the restaurant being more adventurous with that. The draft list has a good bit of options. Hubs got the ESB--fine option for the price. I got the Millennial Marmalade. The burgers were delicious. The mini burger was the perfect size (bigger then a slider but smaller then the regular burger). Definitely upgrade to the rosemary french fries. They are not overpowering at all & the French fries are shoe string. The beers were average. The Alpha particles DIPA was decent but wasn't a fan of the sweat & good west coast ipa. Let me tell you how I even tried this place for a second time. My boyfriend and I were driving down the street discussing what to eat. He asked, "if you could eat a burger where would you go?" And he listed a places we could go and we discovered that Burghers was the one place you could get a good burger, amazing fries, and a good milkshake. We went here after going to the one in Harmony a few years ago (plus I bought a Groupon). There's pay street parking available. I had the Maggie's Farm burger, which was topped with smoked Gouda, caramelized onions and smoked chilies. The burger was cooked exactly how I wanted.
