Never open on time! I've left work twice this morning trying to run in quickly and it is still not open even though hours online and the door say open at 11 am. Very frustrating! I completely understand why this place gets so many bad reviews. Many people come into a store like this and immediately think: Well, they have equipment I can buy to smoke my illegal substances in, so that means I can talk about my illegal substance use as openly and freely as I want without a single thought on how it might affect this store! Why? Cuz I'm so high right now that I can hardly comprehend that normal people shouldn't go around openly talking about their illegal drug use! C'mon. No one cares what you do or what you smoke or what you want to buy so you can go home and get so baked and miss that other interview you already rescheduled, but a store like this gets super close surveillance from...who? You guessed it. The police. So if you think you're doing everyone a favor and telling them not to come here? Maybe you should second guess and think about what's going on before you point a finger. That's like the little kid that calls the bully a chicken and then says he got beat up for no reason after he gets a punch to the head... Alright Brian, Please listen to this and don't take this as an attack. I, like so many others have tried to come back and support you again and again. I had an experience a few days back and I have been trying to figure out what the response is. Sadly I have decided that I will make every effort to not go to your store unless major things change. And luckily since its your store, you can do what ever you want. Keep running it this way, but I fear that will only lead to you going out of business, or at least have a shrinking sales base I have seen you rip apart yelp reviewers in your store, as well as customers that just walked out. But that said, You are in a retail business and I have seen you and your employees treat people in the store as if you are pissed and irritated that they came into the store and god forbid they ask a question. ANOTHER THING - You can charge what ever you want, But your prices are 2-3 times what other local stores charge and 3-4 times higher that online retailers. do what ever you want, but be willing to negotiate or change your business model, Getting pissed at people that questions prices is just going to give you an ulcer, I have also been treated very well by all your employees at times AND on the flip side, I have been treated like absolute sh-t by everyone there, including being dismissed by you after asking you a questions, I have watched the younger blond woman treat people like idiots and speak so condescendingly it was painful, The middle aged black gentleman as been in fits of Rage when I have been in the store, I asked him a question about some tobacco and he looked at me like he wanted to punch me or throw something across the room TOO MANY OF YOUR EMPLOYEES TREAT CUSTOMERS LIKE IRRITATING INCONVENIENCES . This is the much larger sister store to the one near Berklee. Stephanie K. and I stumbled upon this location while on a quest for lunch this past week. The guy working was super friendly and not pushy at all about making you drop some $$ on a quality piece. This is a huge plus because I've had a few experiences elsewhere where I've felt so pressured to buy a piece right then and there that I usually just try to slip out and never return. All of their pieces seemed be be of good quality, even the cheaper ones. I didn't really see any with super thin glass. The ones that you'd be lucky if it survived a one inch drop to the ground. While I was there a couple of super annoying baby boomer ladies came in jokingly screaming things that you should never say loudly in a head shop. The guy working there was pretty cool about it though. This is where you should go if you want to be alienated and treated like a thief. ALL of the staff, save for Brian the owner, were so incredibly rude and standoffish at every turn I ended up leaving without anything. All my friend did was to ask the opinion of the counter person about their favorite type of papers. This lead to some very curt words from the blonde girl at the counter and the rest of the time we were there they sneered at us and followed us around the shop like we were common criminals. The price on their glass is ABSURD, and I though sugar daddy's was bad. They are selling glass you can find at Green side up for ALMOST DOUBLE the price. I refuse to step foot in this place again (the symphony store is almost the same, save in a smaller venue.) until they can find some knowledgeable staff who won't become indignant when you dare to interrupt their phone conversations to try and give them your money. read more

I've been here dozens of times especially since I moved to the neighborhood. There's all these new shiny head shops popping up over Boston but if you're looking for some neighborhood goodness and conversation look no further. They have an incredible variety of pipes and parts and pieces as well as incense for days and cute tapestries. They also have a very wide variety of quality vaporizers. The staff really makes this place what it is. They are extremely knowledgable and engaging. They care about their customers and want to make sure they get what they need as well as always offering great recommendations. Every person I've met here is so genuine and kind and this is what makes me return. read more

Tiny spot, large glass selection. They lose a star bc I was inside with 2 friends and nobody offered us assistance.. I was by the incense for a while and I had questions. My friend looked at something and wondered out loud if they had her size, no response... Whatever. Maybe if we were buying glass, they would care more? Regardless, they have a great selection of incense and glass. They have SOME clothing, but a very odd selection. I wish they had more items like grateful dead and bob marley tie dye t-shirts... But they do have some bajas priced very well! $25 and good quality! I walk into the store with two friends and I see the employee [M] that I promised I'd come and purchase from. I walk over and say hi, she's busy putting away inventory, so I let her know that I am definitely here to purchase something today. I'd already gone to Sugar Daddy's just before, but I thought their inventory wasn't as good as it normally was. Since she seemed busy I head to the back and try to pick something out. Immediately I see that the selection is much smaller than Sugar Daddy's, but I decide that I'm going to stay and try to pick something out anyway. My friend immediately picks out one that we'd checked out and gotten a quote on from SD, and so we just wait for someone to assist us. The manager,[B], walks behind the counter and pretends to be busy, while just rearranging inventory. After looking and seeing that [M] has no intention of coming to help me, I ask [B] if he could grab something from the shelf for me to look at. [B] does not immediately respond, after a minute or two, he turns and says "Who are you talking to, me?" and then goes on to lecture me for "breezing in" with my friends and not responding to him when he greeted us and told us to ask him any questions we may have, and that "courtesy goes a long way" and that we must never have worked in retail. Long story short, he berated us and bullied us into apologizing, and explaining that none of us had even heard him say anything to us. He grumbles about it, but eventually brings down the piece I requested. I put it down after deciding I didn't like it, thank him for showing me, and then ask to see a different piece. This next piece wasn't everything I'd dreamed of, but the price was right, and it had a couple features I hadn't seen in other pieces. I tell him I'll take it, but that I'd also like to pick out an attachment. I ask him for the selection and he points the part of the case I can choose from. When I ask him for something in particular because I don't see it, he asks me if I even know what I'm asking for. Then he opens the case and picks up a piece, I thought he misunderstood me, so I tell him I'm only looking for an additional attachment. In the most condescending tone possible, he explains that he's moving it to get what's behind it. He removes the attachment I asked about from another piece, so I apologize since I thought he was going to keep that as set. "I'm here to help you, you know" he says, I hold out my hand for it, he chooses to place the glass directly on the glass counter. I pick it up, and he immediately snatches it out of my hand. "Maybe not. Have a good day gentlemen." That was it. At no point did I use any inappropriate language, came in completely sober, AND apologized for the slights that he perceived. He even had the gall to say the words "customer service". I have no idea what the heck happened, but it left a sour taste in my mouth for the rest of the day. We immediately left and drove back to Sugar Daddy's, where Bernard greeted us by name, remembered exactly what we asked for along with accessories, and all with friendly and efficient service. Please don't come in here stoned, talking about how you just smoked weed, and try to impress the people that work here - its bad enough that the city gives this place a hard time for no reason - there are amazing people that work here who make a tremendous effort to work with their customers on picking the right products. I saw one girl literally work with my friend for 20 minutes on picking the right water pipe and its accessories, and she was beyond knowledgeable on the entire subject matter and flawlessly friendly, chill, and professional. I have never wrote a review on Yelp before, in fact i've never even thought of writing one but my experience in this store has left me feeling sp hurt and confused that I wanted to warn others. After seeing the display in the store front, I wandered in and began looking at the clothing. Finding a dress i liked, I asked the man standing behind the counter if there was anywhere I could try it on. This is his exact response "I don't think that's going to fit you, honey. You might want to try something at the Big Girls store." Just thinking about this comment still makes me tear up. Likewise, when I began to cry in the middle of the empty store he says "Get the fuck out of here." I am typically not the kind of girl who takes things lying down but I was so deeply hurt that I could only turn and walk out of the store. To make things even clearer, I feel the need to share that I am not a drug user of any kind nor am I unclean or disruptive. In fact, I teach elementary school in the suburbs and was only visiting my brother in Allston. I only say this because some of these reviews suggest that guests are treated poorly based on their behavior or demeanor. While I can admit that this may be true in some circumstances, this is not the case in my experience. Do I want to damn him or the store? Of course not, I can understand that we all have bad days. I called the store curious as to the prices of certain pieces and the phone was disconnected. I assumed that there was just something wrong with the phone line, but little did I know what I was about to witness! I went into the store about a half hour later and walked over to the white male working. He was a generally normal looking middle aged man and seemed nice until I asked him how much a particular water pipe was. He proceeded to say, "Are you the person who called?" I responded with "Yes." He then told me to, "Get the f*ck out of his store or I'll call the police." I told him that I didn't do anything wrong and he continued to yell and swear and tell me to leave. Oh, and in response to "Julie's" post. My friend and I did not mention anything about using the product that I was purchasing for any illegal substances. I had a similar experience to Michael P. The products are mass produced glass junk and way overpriced. The same person listed in Michael's posting was extremely rude to me and in the past has kicked one of my friends out for asking if he would be willing to lower the price of an item by $5... There is a cool glass shop down the street (greenside up) with better prices and friendlier staff. Skip Buried Treasures- there's better places to go with friendlier employees. I went here for the past couple of years with no problems, I actually would get a little discount from them... But the other day was a different story. I went there and the staff was in the back of the store, where the pipes are. The two store employees saw me , 1 of them recognized me because I was a regular, and they both started walking towards me. And I started walking towards them.. I stopped just in front of them and I guess I got in the way of the tall skinny guy, because he grabbed my arm and squeezed and shoved me out of the way. and said " excuseeee--me" and looked all mad ... and the other girl employee was like "oh sorry that is slim he is the manager". I was taken back to what had just happened, I'm a very chilled and relaxed person, so I stayed calm and did not flip out. I just bought a little bit of hemp wick and left. I will never go back .This 100% true ask the employee she still works there . And slim mainly works at their other location so watch out for that guy. The guy was so rude to me, because he was hanging out with a friend in the store and thought I was interrupting his conversation, just cause I was asking to see some pipes. He was very rude to me, and when I said I was all set, I wouldn't take anything because of the bad service, he screamed, when I was almost at the door, to screw me and to take my rudeness to buy items at another store. Came in here after trying two other local shops for flavored rolling papers. One of the other stores told me to try here as they have more product then some other stores tend to have on hand. I didn't end up buying any wraps as I thought they were over priced. 3 bucks a pack where as I bought ten online for $13 shipped, same quantity and brand as sold in store. But I did end up buying my dad a pretty cool fedora hat and some inscent sticks and cones. Staff was very friendly. They have some pretty cool things there such as posters and frames. read more

The people who work there aren't pushy at all (so long as you're not a moron and know what to ask for). I happened to be the only one in the store and had the full attention of both employees. I'm going to have to totally agree with Julie, the only times i've ever heard about anyone getting into any sort of issue with the employees, were people who just simply could not get the idea that IT IS NOT INTENDED FOR ILLEGAL USES, and furthermore, nobody cares about the niceness they picked up at the Phish show, either, and the employees are quick to vocalize it (thank god...). As far as the selection goes, probably one of the best rolling paper selections around, and the selection of pipes is great! The prices are the cheaper in the area too, compared to mainstays like Sugar Daddy's and other places in that vein. Anyone who is whining about this place more than likely is more than likely the same kid you'd ignore at the bar for talking about drugs 24/7 in a vain attempt to get a gold star or a "SWEET, BRAH, LET'S GO LISTEN TO SOME KOTTONMOUTH KINGZ AND TWIST ONE UP". Wow. They just lost thousands of dollars in business because the staff must have some type of minor psychosis. The old white guy who often runs the back might just have the worst customer service I've ever seen. This bitter, sad old man has past his "Kind Ol' Shopkeep" days and now just resents having to stand around in his own utter depression. I've frequented this shady, overpriced excuse for a bodega for about 5 years now while living in Allston and have spent much more than I'd care to admit on their overpriced products simply because the store is the closest of its kind. I've also put up with the disgruntled, burned out staff because, hey, you have to be that kind of putrid person to run a store like this one. So, they got cut a massive amount of slack until today. Finally, the creepy old white guy, the kind that still wears checkered vans and and Spitfire t-shirts, lost his tiny, misguided mind on me and my friend for having a conversation with one another and not him behind the counter. Today, we walked in the store, talking casually and the man at the back counter said a cordial hello and my friend returned the hello casually as we continued our conversation. The man then asked again, this time aggressively and at a louder volume, something like "HOWS IT GOING TODAY???" We turned, shocked and confused at why/how he had gone from 0-10 so fast and said basically said "fine, thanks." He proceeds to aggressively explain to us how its rude to not answer a question like that. As I tried to explain to him that my friend had infact returned the "hello" he got angry and raised his voice telling me not to argue with him. At this point, I decided I did not want to give this man a cent more of my money so I calmly turned and began to walk out of the store. Like a child in tantrum he began to follow me cursing at me and accusing me of mutter insults to him as I walked away. A claim that is just false, I said nothing other than tell him that I'm leaving his store. To put the cherry on top of his breakdown, as we silently and calmly left the store and waited on the corner for the light to change so we could cross the street, the man-child stood in the shop doorway and yelled at us challenging us to say whatever it was we were not saying to his face. We didn't need to insult the man, he we doing quite well enough himself. Silver lining, it lead me to a much better shop in Kenmore Square that I will now spend my money at and refer everyone I know to go there instead of Buried Treasures in Allston. Forgot to write a scathing review of my past experience. This happened over a year back and MAY not reflect what this store is like presently. Went in to purchase glass for my ROOR, and was browsing the selections. Made the briefest of eye contact with one of the employees and he gets in my face immediately, saying if you make eye contact with someone, it's polite to say hello. Agreed. But stated in such a way I'm not going to bother. Try to walk out and he's still on some bullsh*t. So I, against my better judgment, play right into his hands and exchange a couple words. We rage for a little bit in store, then I turn around and walk away. He proceeds to follow me out the door ready to throw down. All the while, I can hear the other employees, not trying to contain his behavior, but egg him on. Considering the nature of the store, it won't take many guesses to the state of mind I was in. First of all let me just preface this by saying that I have been in this game for a long time and I have been to many head shops in my time. I understand the rules of the game as in using the correct language when in these types of establishments. My experience today was not a good one. I am a reasonable person and perhaps there was some miscommunication but I feel that I represented myself in a respectful manner. I have been to this store a few times, as I live in the neighborhood, the prices are average to high and the employees although a bit aloof at times have been generally ok. I purchased a male bowel piece about a week ago, much to my chagrin it did not fit. I went in there today to get a matching female piece. As I walked into the store I was greeted by a tall balding man. I returned the greeting and made my way to the rear counter. As I put my bag on the counter to take out the two pieces I bought a week ago, the employee, hearing the glass on glass sounds said "Please tell me you did not bring in dirty glass" to which I replied "No I did not". He then started to get aggravated and asked me to leave. It turns out he thought I said "Yes I did". After clearing up the miscommunication, I told him about my situation. He didn't seem interested in helping me but rather began to inspect the bowl pieces I brought in and said these are dirty, please leave the store. I tried to explain that they are not since they don't even fit so could not have used them. It was probably too late by this point as he had made up his mind after the miscommunication. He said I have been doing this a long time and those have been used. I told him that I'm not trying to argue with him, he retorted "But you are". He pulled out the same piece out of a draw which was full if identical bowl pieces and compared the two and said see these are clean ones, your's is not. He then said please leave the store. I honestly did not see the difference This situation might have been caused by a simple mistake of hearing yes instead of no, but it seemed that there was no hope as it appeared to me that his mind was made up and I was branded a miscreant. Maybe it was my fault for bringing in the pieces but I thought nothing of it as they were not used at all. The major issue I have is that there is no way to turn the situation around over an honest mistake. I thought that I was been respectful and I addressed him as sir. Never in my many years had I been treated so poorly and I hope that they can turn this unfortunate situation into a positive one by giving deserving people the benefit of the doubt. I understand that they are just trying to protect their business but I think he could tell I was not some sort of idiot going in there with complete disregard for their well-being. I am a clean cut person and also a very respectful one too. Take what you will of this situation and hope we can all learn something from this. read more

while looking for a tapestry my friend and i were told that we could unfold them and fold them back up to see the designs on each by one lovely lady, then another woman came to the counter and saw that ONE of the tapestries we were planning on buying was not folded properly and she gave a really rude comment "if you can't fold the tapestries back you can give them to me" her attitude was beyond belief rude. then while looking at the one's in the bags we folded the one back up and was having a problem getting it back into the bag.. so since she had kindly said she would do anyone we couldn't do i brought it over to her and said "sorry we couldn't get it back into the bag "she responded with " yeah well you aren't supposed to take them out of the bag...thanks ladies" I have never been treated so poorly by someone in a store. she was condescending and rude while everyone else in the store seemed to be kind and friendly this one girl was the worst. my recommendation is if you aren't a nice person get out of customer service job.
