I dont know what everybody is talking about? This places service was great! haha OK. All Joking aside. The balding gingerly man, who I must presume is named Bryan is the biggest asshole to manage a head shop in the country. Unless you're a female of course and I am sure you have already put that together seeing how the only people that have positive things to say about him are females. It has nothing to do with "showing up stoned and talking about how high you are." The guy that runs the place is simply a miserable twat. Honestly, I DARE you to go here and then not feel just as compelled to write a review like I am. What I regret is that I never check yelp prior to going to a place and even if I saw these horrid reviews, I probably still would have check it out anyways. I went in to check out some oil rigs. These devices are relatively new and have many different names. Oil rigs, Nail hits, dabbers, etc... Bryan was a fucking ass right off the bat. I asked if he had the titanium nails and he looked at me like I had asked "Do you sell things?" How fucking specific do you have to be to not get belittle by this middle aged sad case? After he exploited that moment for as much self-propping esteem, he vaguely pointed at an area of the counter that had an assortment of things I was looking for. I asked him if I could see a specific one and he was irritated that I wasnt making it clear enough for him which one I was pointing at. This dickhead was being such a hassle that I leaned in to point even closer at the one I was looking at and of course once again he wasnt hesitant to prove how much of a prick he can be in telling me I "better" back away from the counter. I told him the "clear one?" There was no other way to reference it. He picked it up and said "This one??? Its NOT clear" The piece was entirely clear and had a decal on it and he used this as another window to belittle me some more by making that remark packed with as much douche attitude as he could fit. At this point I was smiling because I just couldnt believe how ridiculous he was being. I told him plainly "I want a full oil rig, in its entirety, ready and useable." He brings one down and I ask how much it ran for. He flips it over and shows me the price on the bottom as though I was an idiot for not inherently knowing the tag was there myself. It was too much money for me. "What about the cheapest one you got?" TIME TO BE AN ASS AGAIN "Nothing here is cheap! We have inexpensive. Cheap means poorly made! You know that right?" "Uhhh right... Which is your most Economical unit?" "You do know that cheap means poorly made right?" (yes he repeated it again) "UH HUH" Now, being completely annoyed by the fact that I wanted to spend as little money as possible he resentfully pulls another one down. Instead of asking the price this time, I turn the unit over myself to see the price and of course he semi-flips out because I touched the thing. He put me in the position where I would not want to ask him the price and at the same time prompted me to check the price myself then snaps at me for touching it. What the fuck is that?? I am just too nice and ended up taking a business card and saying thanks for your help and have a good one. I guess this is what yelp is for though. Speaking your mind where it matters. DON'T GO HERE! THIS PLACE IS A SCAM! Honestly, if you are looking to purchase quality scientific glass, this is the last place you want to go. I recently went to the Alston location and purchased what I thought to be the Vortex glycerin coil I had been searching for over the last 6 months. The manager, Brian, was happy to see it go after, "it had been sitting on the shelf for 6 months," and he even knocked several dollars off the price. Unfortunately, a day in the freezer later and my coil was equally as viscous as it was before freezing. The coil was a fake: it did not contain glycerin and was obviously not made by Vortex. When I spoke with Brian over the phone, he lied when he said he would do everything he could to, "work something out," and over the next few days he would make excuses to not even stay on the phone. When I showed up to avoid getting the run around any longer, with the water pipe in the box and unused, Brian immediately escalated a business situation into a one sided altercation. I only wanted to exchange what I had purchased and buy a hitman that costed even more money. I even offered to pay back the extra money he had taken off on my initial purchase. While Brian screamed at me leaning over the counter to get in my face, the employee from the Boston location who was present took off his chain as if him and Brian were going to fight me. After Brian paced around essentially crying like an adolescent teenager who was just grounded from a high school dance, while pretending to call the store 'owner' who was the only person who could make the exchange of my garbage fake coil, he persisted to go into the back of the store and do menial box folding while ignoring me and my attempts to reconcile the situation, completely. No one deserves to be subjected to such an ordeal and be faced with such hostility when trying to make a purchase at a head shop. I was basically sold a knockoff fake, and treated like a degenerate as the store told me they were robbing me and there was nothing I could do. Not to mention, they offer little variety between glass brands and the prices were outrageous for what they had. They even had another fake coil on the shelf when I went there to return it. I would never want anything from here, and I would advise others to stay away, too. I am tempted to give this place the lowest rating but I understand where the owner was coming from in the situation I just experienced, so I gave it 2/5. Let me start by saying that i got there after 12 noon, and there was a BRB sign saying whoever was in charge would be back at 12. Fifteen minutes later he showed up. About 20 minutes ago I visited this store looking for a water pipe, ie: a bong. Going in I was not sure if I would find anything, but all my pieces at home are near expiring and I just wanted to grab a cheap and small sized water pipe without the inconvenience of ordering online. Being a nice guy I inquired about the Volcano vaporizers that he had (waaaaaaay overpriced by the way, by at least 100 dollars) to start a conversation; I want one in the future so I asked about them. Then I made the mistake of saying "So, I am just looking for a small bong." The guy, Bryan I guess, immediately stated sternly that "We don't sell bongs..." and of course I realized that my choice of words was a mistake. I told him sorry, that I forget that I am no longer in California sometimes, and that I was "just looking for glass," but all I got in return was a scary grump face, a finger pointing at the door, and Bryan mumbling something about "this isn't california, grump grump grump, blah blah." First off, selling bongs is not a crime. Even so, all the owner would need to say is that they only carry water pipes. Second, we are less than 1 month away from legalized medical marijuana in MA, maybe you should consider elevating your mood as marijuana becomes less of an issue... Third, if he had kindly just corrected my error instead of shoving me out, would have bought a ton of items from him! The place is obviously failing now I kind of want it to happen. Anyway, main point is the guy who works there is a prick. No surprise the people who claimed he was nice are all women. Hah. If you're a hookahhead like myself, and you're looking for a way to get decently priced Starbuzz or any other shisha without hassle, this is the place. They have a wide selection of shishas neatly displayed, along with the cheapest coals you can find around Boston. There's all the sizes available 50g, 100g, 250g. For 250g Starubzz, it costs $24~28 on average online and offline from my experience. It costs $26 here at the moment I believe. At first I was like okay, it's not cheap but at least this place is relatively close and I don't have to wait for shipping or worry about my online order getting screwed. But ever since the second time I've shopped here, they've given me 10% discount on all my purchases, that includes coals! You might think 10% is negligible, but if you think about it, it cuts the cost to what you'd get from a cheap online store. And it certainly is the cheapest I've seen around here. Also, if they don't have the flavor you want, you can just ask them if they can order it for you. Now the most important thing to point out. I've been a waiter since 2009, so I know a thing or two about good service. Price is obviously important, but so is getting good service when you're a customer. I read Yelp reviews on this store beforehand, so the first time I walked in here, I was a little nervous to be honest. But it turns out, this place has one of the friendliest people I've EVER encountered in any stores! Brian, the store owner, is such a gentleman, and everyone here is beyond nice. =] Ten stars for that. I'm confused as to how some people got "bad service," but it might all just come down to one's attitude. If you're polite, they'll be polite right back at you. This goes for any other service industries. People are people, y'know? Shouldn't expect a good service with bad attitude. Try this place out! And let it be your favorite. =D read more

Buried Treasures has a pretty decent selection and okay prices, especially in a world where most people buy their accessories on-line. That being said, the guy who owns the place is a bit of a douche. I understand the need to squash any customer chatter regarding illegal drugs, but there is a place to draw the line and this guy has chosen a crappy place to draw his as well as a crappy way to deal with infractions (being a douche.) I had been there a few times before and spent at least $20 bucks each time. I also engaged in some polite conversation with the guy who was actually pretty cool up until this most recent visit. I know it's not a lot, but most people who go into headshops don't buy anything, they just spend 20 minutes looking around before leaving. The store was empty save for him, my friend and I when I accidentally let a very innocuous reference slip (for all intents and purposes, I basically just said "mushrooms.") At that point, he began to act like a douche and lectured me about all the places that have gotten shut down. From then on, he acted pissy and sour. If he's so worried about being busted, all he has to do is politely remind customers that it "isn't *that* kind of place." It gets the same message across without driving away potential customers. What great customer service. A few friends and I decided to stop by Buried Treasures after going to Stingray body art right across the street, in dire need of a new hookah. As soon as we walked in, the clerk was very friendly and helpful, and directed us to exactly the hookah we were looking for; they have an excellent selection at great prices, the clerk was pleasant and made some small talk with us. After we mentioned that we were college students visiting Boston for the day, he was nice enough to give us a discount on the hookah that was already a great deal. The woman who was also on shift gave us excellent advice in terms of which shisha to go along with the new hookah, she was very knowledgeable and also exceptionally friendly. Unfortunately, they did not have any insta-light coals in stock, but we nice enough to tell us that the Shisha Lounge down the street had some for sale. A+ service, very friendly staff, great selection and great prices (even on a poor student college budget) I highly recommend Buried Treasures for all your Hookah and smoking related needs, they have certainly made returning costumers for my friends and I whenever we are in the area. read more

I had such an easy and great experience here, I believe one of the proprietors helped me, Brian awesome guy so knowledgeable. I went there looking for a water pipe and I had several specifications which included a diffuser no honeycomb preferably tree of dome and it had to have an ice catch and not one of the crappy ones that drops the ice and breaks the glass with a solid decent size chamber. Now I had been here previous and my friend bought something similar but day 2 who ever made it didn't put the foot on right and the base popped off with no outside trauma it just came off when picked up. I wasn't very keen on going throught that so I need sturdy glass and solid work, he understood and we searched through some stuff and he was just down to earth in a wicked cool way, he ended up finding me a peice and gave me a solid fucking deal like beyond anything I thought I was gonna get including a few extras, point to say I highly recommend this place and I will be coming here regularly despite the ride from the south shore read more

Yeah I was there with my friend when he got scammed out of a glycerin coil. The place is only a front for a store; no business that goes on in Buried Treasures is different from a drug deal. Except the product is no good and the dealer is paranoid because he is scared to be getting rid of fake s***. Good luck in this place; after how we were treated by Brian we just said f*** it and were luckily able to get the 'vortex' drilled out and replaced with glycerin instead of vegetable oil. But do you really want to be forced to do something so absurd when you just spent $500? No. Not worth the time or effort to deal with those employees, sadly. I would be pretty miserable too if i was that guy. Its funny in a pathetic way to see all the fake reviews he wrote for himself. That is the kind of level this place will stoop to. Not only do i drive 60 minutes just to go here when I have a shop in my own town, but this has the best selection of almost anything u can think of. Shop keeper is very chill no bad vibes n knows the store. Cool local art and best in store vaporizer selection I've seen, cool items to check out, great Salvia / k2 selection, and also best waterpipe selection with top of the line to straight up crazy! I have been a regular of various smoke shops around Boston for the past 8 years or so, and this is by far my favorite place to go. No one barks at you when you enter the door demanding ID; instead they are super friendly, laid back and happy to answer questions on glass, rolling papers or apparel. I love the selection of papers here, and they have gone so far as to start carrying a brand I simply mentioned liking a lot. That's the kind of thing that keeps a shop like this great, paying attention to their customers. I am not much of a fan of glass myself, but the selection they have here always captures my attention for a couple minutes, beautiful pieces with a lot of variance in the designs. This is definitively the top place to go in Boston for all your smoking needs, make the trip. read more

In response to Julie T, this is exactly what happens. People go in there under the influence talking loudly about their drug use or whatever, and it reflects badly on this legitimate business. The police have been scrutinizing many head shops and smoke shops around Suffolk County, so for their own protection if you are in there talking about your use of drugs, the employees have every right to be angry or tell you to leave. I have been in there before where the employee asked a potential customer to not talk about these things, and the person stopped, if you keep going on about it after you are told, then whatever "bad customer service" you receive is 100% just and right. This is an excellent shop for hookah related purchases. I bought a medium sized one and not only did it now work right, they forgot to put in tongs for the coals. So, the following day I went back to return it, and they were as cool as could be!! I ended up getting a larger hookah, because in my experience it smokes better, and they included a bunch of freebies for my troubles. Great customer relations, I came on yelp thinking they had like 4 star reviews and saw it was so low and had to let people know that this is an excellent store. If you're looking for assistance with anything other than tobacco, maybe it's not the place for you -- but I had a great experience with them and can't recommend this store highly enough. read more

this place taught me so much about all the different products. one of the girls (i forget her name but she was pretty) explained to me for like an hour how to use every single piece of glass i asked about, even though i ended up buying the most inexpensive one to begin with, i didn't get any pressure. and i learned a lot! all of the pieces were so gorgeous too, i felt like i got a lot for my purchase. i also liked the incense, i never found so many great scents before, definitely try your favorite! one smells exactly like my go-to perfume. this place is relaxed and has EVERYTHING. i've been to all the tiny places in new york and they don't have all fixings this store does. i can't wait to drag someone special here :) read more

I have been frequenting this establishment for years. They are big on respect. If you respect the general, simple rules that are in place to keep you from getting arrested, the employees are friendly, helpful, sincere, and kind. If you are careless, disrespectful, and rude, they will calmly ask you to leave. This store gets bad reviews from people who come in thinking that it is a small oasis from the law, where anything goes and everything is ok. Wrong. It is a store just like any other and they do have to follow the law. I've been visiting this particular location for about 2 years now, every single time I've gone inside I have been more than happy with the merchandise that I see and more than anything the customer service. The employees are extremely helpful, kind, and genuinely care to make your experience awesome while inside the store. The entire atmosphere of the store is super relaxed and fun. If you're relaxed, mature, and discrete this is a great place for you to shop.
