I was psyched to try Sugar Daddy's since Romman shisha isn't bad, and my usual hookah haunts were getting boring. Overpriced is right. I wasted 25 cents parking in front of this craphole. We browsed the shisha selection while the staff catered to the eighteen year olds buying one-hitters and a cracked out dude in rainbow sneakers who needed a new crackpipe or something. A dude told us not to grab anything ourselves; he'd be over to help us. Fine. I asked him for the flavors we wanted, and he explained that the boxes we were referring to were "back stock" and we could only buy them if we purchased the case, since no one buys more than the small boxes at a time. Uh-huh. I tried to figure out what that cost would be and he explained that, since we had "helped ourselves to choosing flavors and [he] got distracted, [he] wasn't able to explain how it worked." I don't know what kind of bongs you people were looking at - mine cost like $60 (after nominal negotiation) and it's perfectly good. Bongs are expensive! They always have been. I like Sugar Daddy's because when I went in and asked for a bong, they did not kick me out; they just smiled patronizingly and reminded me that what I actually wanted was a water pipe. (I barely resisted the urge to ask "Well, can I still smoke weed out of it?") That's especially impressive because my mid-30s yuppie ass looks exactly like a narc in every way. Fuck, I wear argyle sweaters! "Hello, I hear you sell paraphernalia that I might use to smoke the 'reefer'. Is this correct?" I woulda took my narc ass out back, if I were them instead of me. I'm glad they didn't though, because it would be really embarrassing to get beat up by a bunch of hippies. The staff is super friendly and helpful if you know what you are talking about and aren't super obnoxious. Here is an exchange I heard from one of the guys that worked there and a young very typical looking college aged couple. They were looking at water pipes: College Kid: "ummmmmmm...*points at a pipe*...does this this one make a lot of noise? Is there a quieter one?" This place gets a bad rap for being overpriced and ripping off college kids with poor quality glass pieces. To be honest, they have some nice stuff! You never end up paying sticker price and they make you feel better by cutting of $10 or $20, though I'm sure they price their items accordingly. If I went to BU or any of the other colleges nearby I'd have no qualms about running down here to pick up a quick piece of glass before going to play some Frisbee on the common. Anyway, there's a glass case in the back with stuff that's marked way, way down. It's hit or miss, but sometimes you can find something cool if you're on a budget. I got a really nice spoon blown from someone locally in Cambridge. I was so happy when I bought it; the quality and the sheer detail and hard work that went into making this piece is apparent. Yes, they have the mass-produced poor quality homogeneous glass that you'll want to watch out for. But they also have some really nice pieces if you know a little bit what to look for (and by no means am I a glass connoisseur! I just knew in general what I wanted.) If you're a serious glass aficionado coming through Boston, I would suggest checking out the Green Side Up Art Gallery in Allston. It's easy to find, literally right off the Harvard stop on the green line, and they have the absolute best glass art you can find in the Boston area. But if you're just a casual smoker and you're just looking for good quality at a good price, I'd say check out Sugar Daddy. read more

Great pieces + terrible prices = Sugar Daddy's. The prices in here are scary. That having been said, they are easily negotiable. Example: I wanted something priced at $310 and after a protracted negotiation (and an agreement to pay in cash) the item was mine for $160. Now to give you an idea how overpriced this place is, the item would have sold for about $140 at a normal smoke shop. The old guy who work here and the chick are both cool; but, there is also another kid who works here now who is a wise ass -- just don't indulge him, otherwise you'll be in for some gypsy hippie story about learning to blow glass in Eugene Oregon blah, blah, blah... NOTE- If you smoke Hookah's (nargiles, waterpipes etc.) DO NOT buy items here. Go to Arax market in Watertown. It is a Middle Eastern market with authentic coals, shisha, etc -- much better products and much better price. read more

This place is pretty much the only shop in town of it's kind. That doesn't mean I would ever spend money in there. They have water pipes that cost more than refrigerators. You would have to be high to shell out that kind of money. Why don't you walk down the street to the 711 and get yourself a pack of Phillies. And some snacks. read more

Nothing to write home about, but as one of Boston's few head shops, it serves its purpose. I'm still a little shocked that this is one of so few like shops because Boston is the *highest* concentration of admitted weed smokers in the entire country. We gets down. Still, even with pot decriminalized here, it's still like a dirty secret or something. Go figure. Sugar Daddy's has a good selection and your usual earthy crunchers working there, obviously baked as shit. The store is like a big converted apartment living room with bay windows, standard comm. ave style. I have been to chiller, friendlier head shops and it made me want to buy something more. I got a pipe here once and it was a little small one for portability. The lady working the counter noticed a tiny crack in it and pointed it out. I think what they do here is mark up their merch and then "give you deal" on it so you think they're being really cool. For example, the little pipe was overpriced at $20, but when she went to $15 as a "favor" I was like 'sweet.' Noticing that crack she then gave it to me for $7. It wouldn't have even broken if I hadn't drunkenly smacked it on a table to clear it later that night. Oh well. read more

This place isn't so bad. I've been shopping here for years, and I noticed that over time pieces have gotten more expensive. Maybe there is room to negotiate for the prize piece that you have your eye on. They have a great variety of what you can choose from. Service is just nice enough where sales is not pushy, but help is always there if you need it! There aren't many gift shops like these in the area, so I trust that they are reliable enough. As an avid hookah smoker, I'd recommend that you not waste your time at Sugar Daddy's if you're looking for shisha or any other hookah products. The overpriced hoses and lackluster selection of tobacco, consisting of only Al Waha and Romman, is just not good. At all. Yeah, if I need a quick fix of coals or a small box of Romman 'Sweet Start' or 'Good Times', I stop in. But where's the Al Fakher? Where's the Starbuzz? Just go to Arax instead. While you can't beat the convenience of Sugar Daddy's location, the selection of products, at least from a hookah-head perspective, is unfortunately brutal. read more

Sugar Daddys is the greatest! The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and actually make you feel like they're super excited to see you! As long as you know that a "water pipe" is called a "water pipe" and you can interact with the sales associates in a calm and professional manner. Not only do they have a huge selection of glass, they have some of the most unique pieces you've ever seen. I agree with most of the other yelpers on here noting that their selection is a bit overpriced. They do, however, offer a great selection in their 'clearance' section, and as with most smoke shops, they will shave more than a few dollars off the price if you're not annoying :) read more

For the occasional "smoker", Sugar Daddy's may not be the ideal option, but if you're looking for knowledgeable staff and the best selection around you can't beat it. I've made my ways around all the head shops in town, and no matter what I'm looking to get, I always end up back at SD's. Sure, you may pay a little more than ordering it online, but after my last two big purchases there, I don't think I'll go (or order from) anywhere else again unless I'm hunting down a specific item that they don't happen to carry. As much as everyone talks crap about this place, I really haven't had any problems either. Yeah it's a little overpriced but its the best place in town, and has some AWESOME glass. People also complain about the staff, but every time I go in there they are very-friendly and always help me out as soon as I need it, and leave me alone til I'm ready and done browsing. I give this a 2 star for hookah and a 3 star for everything else. So I am in a good mood so I am giving this place 3 stars. Hookah wise this place was lame, they had one type of charcoal, a couple types of shisha and no tongs. I was impressed by their completely hand-blown glass hookah and that they had hookah cleaner... it strangely seems hard to come by that. They had about a dozen boring hookahs out of reach to buy. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, after expressing my concern about cloves becoming illegal, the guy explained to me how companies are getting around the ban. They had a nice selection of legal cloves and recommended what would be the best bet for me now that they have changed. I haven't really priced "water pipes", so I can't tell you if they are overpriced. I did notice a pipe I liked and thought about getting until I saw the price of $60. I'll stick with my old buddy thanks. They do have a large selection and if I feel like haggling I might come back for their pipes... but I never feel like haggling. read more

I would give it 2 stars but being that there's not really another other place in Boston to replace sugar daddy's (I heard a place in allston but that means venturing even further into the green line which I'm lazy for). The staff is nice and relatively helpful. Selection is fairly limited in what looks like a large selection but really its just replicas or exactly same style/shape/size just a few diff colours. I usually have an issue with decision making but it took a few looks before I found even anything I kinda liked. I found it a little bit overpriced (which makes sense due to little competition and basic economics of supply/demand) I did not understand the concept of the prices not really being what is listed. (I guess they're going for old school NY st. corners bargaining style of sales?) Overall I walked out relatively content with my piece (only one i liked) and not too annoyed with the final price. read more

I'm only giving this five stars because Sugar Daddy's is Boston's only functioning head shop---The Hempest on Newbury is an overpriced fashion boutique out of Woody Harrelson's wet dreams. Sugar Daddy's offers some very high quality glass, but it comes at a cost---this is unquestionably the most expensive smoke shop I've seen in the country. But the staff does their best to make prices manageable, and they'll usually give you quite a discount off the marked price. Selection is fantastic at this store - from cigars, humidors, water pipes and other paraphernalia, you can usually find everything you need for your smokey pleasures. I used to come in for their unique cigarettes - vanilla, citrus, chocolate flavors... all make it a more smooth and enjoyable nicotine experience. They have a good selection of cloves too. Widest selection, most knowledgeable staff, and unlike other shops in the area, they never sell to kids and ID everyone who walks through the door! I also enjoy that they never push, no hard sell, which if you're dropping your hard earned cash you want your choice to be your own. Best selection of glass I've seen in one place as well.
