Burke's is a definite Benson neighborhood staple, and it's for good reason :-) The bartenders are always super friendly, and they have some fun events like pub trivia and free pool days. The main entrance area has a pinball machine, the bar, and a few high top tables. There is a side room with the pool table, a fun claw machine, and some additional seating with tables. My favorite part is the amazing outdoor patio in the back, all made of wood! They have a great beer selection especially if you're a fan of "Dad beers" which I very much am. They also have the famous "Apple Pie Shots" which are delicious (and therefore dangerous). Burke's has a very "uncle's basement" vibe, but in the best way. My wife and I stopped in here thanks to Omaha Bar Ticket. The bar wasn't terribly busy even though we visited on a Saturday, so we were served quickly. The bartender was very attentive. After ordering the beer, the keg needed to be replaced. The bartender was good at informing me of the wait and was very attentive at getting a good first draw from the new keg. Stopped in during a weekend pub crawl for charity (what a great way to raise money! ). This place definitely has a 'divey' feel to, but in a good way. A type of place that feels like it has been here a long time, where locals come to get a drink. The bartender was very personable and made us feel welcome. I've never revieved any bar or restaurant before this, never had an experience significant enough to do so. This was, no exaggeration, the worst bar experience I've ever had. It was fine for the majority of my time there. Beers were cold and the price was average. Then 1:45 am hit. The bouncer began physically pushing people out of the bar. It was pouring rain. The bartender (?) came and physically pushed people out of the bar at 1:50am, with about eight people crowded into the entryway trying to find shelter from the rain while waiting for rides. Only giving 2 because 1 star is mean. Seriously, Burke's is by far the least likely bar to ever get me into. We had met some friends for happy hour (Krug) and then onward to a potluck(OBC) and wanted to extend the pleasantness of Benson to one more round before heading home. Wifle and I walked in and there were about 5 people in the entire bar. The 'oh so cool' bartender didn't turn around or acknowledge anything. I made eye contact with the short blonde server and she continued to lean on the counter and stare blankly at the TV. The 3 dudes at the end of the bar were most likely friends of the staff, but based on being ignored, I won't be here again. It is a shame that my money will go towards paying somebody else's bills. Burke's is another "must stop" on my trips to Benson. I'm a sucker for popcorn and their apple pie shots mean some serious business :) Overall, Burke's is on the cleaner side of divey and the staff has always been really nice. Rewriting this after visitng again.......Took from 4 star to 3 star. I came here for a second time with a couple buddies on a Friday night. This place was now ridiculously packed. Like 10 minutes plus to order anything packed. No seats, standing room only. Looked like a lot of wannabe rednecks and college kids....Not the usual hipster crowd from Benson. Finally sat on the other side from the bar. It has a pool table, the same punching bag game as many bars and a few TVs. Not really my kind of stuff, I would rather sit at the bar and talk about beer, people, and business with the bartenders and others. I still might come here again on a weeknight to sit at the bar, but they don't have much on tap that I care for either. read more

Many American bars come from the saloon tradition of hospitality. Ride in, belly up, order, then conversate, cowboy, and in that order. They don't know what you like to drink and are therefore unable or unwilling to make a recommendation. In such establishments, it is apparently pointless to ask if there are any new ales, local or otherwise, because they either don't have them or because real hombres don't act like sommeliers. Who knows? You can call anything a pub, but it doesn't always make it so. A pub has to have a certain feeling of familial friendliness to it. Burke's Pub in Benson has that feeling. It's where everybody who goes on a pub crawl in Benson starts or finishes their night. It's the place to meet up after work, get back to if separated or just stay there all night. Like they say online, it's your first time or you're a regular, this is your neighborhood bar. Burke's lives up to the pub label. If you're like me, and I know I am, you like pie. And at Burke's, the pie is half the point. Notices for the famous Apple Pie shots adorn the walls like Mötley Crue mirrors at a carnival, they're everywhere. The rest of Burke's interior is nice and shady in the main room. It's one of my favorite bars in the summer. It's cool like a hobbit hole with the shades drawn, especially in the dog days of August. Their party room is as nice as anything you might find in the Old Market, perfect for birthdays, reunions, bachelorette parties and the occasional live music performance. They have a fenced-in back porch beer garden for smokers and anyone else wishing to take the air. Also available are pub favorites darts, pool and keno. Burke's has six TVs, Internet jukebox and free popcorn. Salty snacks are always a plus for me. They make me drink with greater gusto.   Back to the shots. Burke's Apple Pie shots are like Elizabeth I in because they rule. Also they are much busier than one might realize. Notes of cinnamon, brown sugar, cider, caramel and the 4th of July. This applejack is a sweet demitasse of Americana in your mouth. And everyone is coming for these shots. They sell so many, it's a surprise they don't run out more often. Like apple pie and coffee, I paired my Apple Pie Shot with a Boulder Beer Company Shake Chocolate Porter with notes of malt, dark chocolate and coffee beans ($7 during happy hour). The dark notes of the porter made a nice counterpoint cutting through the sweetness of the shot without corruption. Happy Hour is 3 to 6 p.m. and 12 to 2 a.m. daily and feature $2 domestic draws, 50¢ off all drinks and $2 Apple Pie Shots. Check the web for other specials. Burkes isn't necessarily the place you go to be a beer snob, but it is the kind of place where friends new and old meet repeatedly. read more

They scammed me for $30, a pathetic business. I bought 3 beers with friends and closed my tab that costed $13, I left a $3 tip and got charged $46.00. So someone added a 0 to my tip and forged the receipt. I emailed, called and went in to have them pull he receipt and talk to the owner who still has not responded to my requests to talk or a reimbursement. Avoid this place read more

I'm pretty much a bar novice, so I don't have much to compare this place to. However, I know good drinks when I have them and Burke's are pretty awesome! The apple pie shots, obviously, are the highlight - they're both sweet and boozy without being too sugary or bitter and go down really smoothly. I've honestly never had a shot I've enjoyed more, though I would definitely like it if they're a bit stronger next time I have them. Besides that, the bar was obviously well-kept and clean (bar bathrooms are usually disgusting but they're actually usable here) and the bartender was really efficient. He and the others were also really helpful when it became obvious that I wasn't used to the bar scene which I appreciated. The ambience is definitely very simple and old fashioned (hello wood paneling and pool table!) which makes it pretty cozy and chill. Next time I'm out for drinks I'm definitely coming by! read more

This is a decent place to stop for a beer. The drinks are affordable and the place is cozy if not a bit dingy. It could probably use a good scrubbing but I suspect that's part of the charm. I like the fact that they have a dog that hangs out in the bar. A word of warning that you will find this place packed later on the weekend evenings. If you go to Burkes you have to get the apple pie shots, you get a little vase thing and you can get 6 shots out of it. They have a pool table and a few other things in the other room but I have never been over there. I went on a Saturday when they had 2 dollar Irish bombs, Husker bombs and Jell-O shots, I tried the Husker bombs and Jell-O shots and both were very good, well worth the $4 I spent on them. They have popcorn in the back area too. I mostly come here when my phone is dying because they have a table very close to an outlet. Service is very friendly too, I was waiting at the bar for probably 1 min and the bar tender apologized about needing to do something else before taking my order. I'm sure I'll be back sometime! read more

We had a great time at Burke's. My friend and I were doing a little bar-hopping since she recently moved to the area and our stop at Burke's was great. The staff was really friendly and the drinks were also great. We had two of the three apple pie shots and while I'm not sure if they are world-famous, they were definitely great. This place is soooo weird, but in the best way. This bar is always a party. Its packed, its loud, people bring their dogs, there always seems to be some super drunk chicks in the bathroom, there's pool, and darts, and all walks of life co-mingling. The jukebox is always pretty terrible, but for some reason i never seem to mind. My tab is always cheaper than i think it will be, and the bartenders are fast. Its a fun place if you're looking to level up. The apple pie shots come in different carafe sizes so choose wisely-these shots WILL put you on your ass. They sneak up on ya. My first exposure to Burke's came at a time when it was called the R Bar. That was during the historic 1st Annual Benson Bar Crawl and Winter Retreat. It impressed me as just another neighborhood watering hole. If was fine, I suppose, but I wasn't really drawn to spend time there. In the past year, though, I've been back a few more times, and I think the place is starting to grow on me. For one thing, they expanded into the storefront to the west, so the whole place is less claustrophobic than it used to be. They have free popcorn (there ought to be an amendment to the U.S. Constitution requiring all bars to serve free popcorn), there are some decent craft beers on tap, and they have had some pretty good drink specials the last couple of times I've been there. This past Saturday, it was $2.50 for Blue Moon draws. At the time of this review, they even have weekly karaoke on Saturday nights (although the guys with the machine REALLY need to expand their catalog). It's not trendy and it's not cool, but I like this place, and it's worked its way onto the list of neighborhood places I'll go when I spontaneously decide on an evening out in Benson. read more

I am a regular at Burkes and I enjoy my nights out there, but there is one thing, or should I say one girl that completely ruins the whole experience. The female bartender that worked there is extremely rude, unprofessional, and down right mean. She is a mildly attractive, dark haired, short girl who has an absolutely repulsive attitude. One night I was celebrating my friend's birthday. He proceeded to make small talk while we were there stating that it was his birthday and he was hanging out with his friends. She rudely interrupts him demanding what he wanted to drink because we were such an inconvenience to her. After he got the pitcher and the glasses he spilled a little on the bar and she literally yelled at him, "I am not cleaning that up! You spilled it, you clean that sh*t up!" He apologized multiple times and cleaned up the tiniest spill I had ever scene. We moved down the bar to get away from here when she whipped out her phone and started angrily texting while glaring at us from across the bar. We ended up leaving right away after that drink. On other occasions this female bartender has been extremely snappy towards my friends and I. She makes it seem like ordering a drink is a huge inconvenience to her. Which is ridiculous because she is PAID GOOD MONEY to work there. I honestly have never met a server, host, retail worker, or bartender that was even close to as rude as this girl. Unprofessional is an understatement. I feel bad for the owner and the other employees that work there. It is such a fine establishment and my friends and I love going there, but this girl is like the bartender from hell. And I am not one of those people that go to places and freaks out, in fact I didn't say anything to her face and I left a nice tip. I hope the two brothers that own Burkes read this review and really understand how frustrating it is to go out and try to relax and have drinks with friends, only to have to deal with someone with such a down right NASTY ATTITUDE. I know I am not the only one who has experienced this, if you have also had to deal with this lady please say something so I don't feel like I am the only one. Again, I love going to Burkes, but this women really needs to fix her attitude for the sake of the business. read more

Burke's Pub is ever changing. I've been coming here since it was the R Bar, about 6 years now. Greg Bourne, the owner, has made significant changes since he took over the bar 4 years ago. Not only does this bar have a great afternoon following, but, overflow from the Waiting Room and regulars from Fullhouse have found a home here. On any given night you will find folks of every age, ethnicity and financial stature. The bartenders are individually what makes this place. Smart ass Kenzie weekday afternoons, mild Mark from Monday to Wednesday nights, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, and the fiesty cougar Teri on Friday and Saturday nights. Greg, the owner, actually works Thursday and Sunday nights and fills in for the others. They have some of the best prices in town. You'll always find a great mix of beers on tap, including Guinness to their own Burke's Pub Ale. A mix of artisan beers in the cooler. They still have free popcorn and food for the televised Nebraska games. An expanded list of songs on Touch Tunes jukebox. Don't forget the Big Red Keno. Between the two sides of the pub there are more than enough tv's to keep your sport on. If you want a great hole in the wall, where after a while they'll know your name and what you drink, just like Cheers, this is the place to be in Omaha! read more

Fun bar, usually a bit too crowded. They have a cool casual atmosphere although as with most places in Benson a lot of the hipsters try to crowd in on occasions. They have good drinks at fair prices. read more
